Had a great lunch bread at the brickyard. We had a bbq itch and this place is close to work. Came around 11:15 am and it was pretty empty. Off the bat, staff were super friendly and happy to answer questions. We ended up splitting a loaded brisket baked potato and the brisket sandwich plate. The potato comes on its own. The sandwich plate came with a side and a drink. We got the cream corned and the pinto beans. The potato was great! Nicely loaded and HOT. The brisket sandwich was also good! Brisket was tender and delicious. Their bbq sauce is excellent as well. The creamed corn was ok. The pinto beans had a nice flavor. The extra side cost us $4 which was kinda pricey for what we got. It's funny how you sometimes find good places to eat by chance sometimes. I tried a new way home from physical therapy session and kept driving by a BBQ sign on a simple building at a busy intersection. Tonight I decided to give their food a try and I am glad I did. As a bbq fan as an eater and as a cook who does the hard work myself, I can tell you the folks at Brickyard do a very good job making Texas BBQ. I always order moist brisket when I am new to a place and I also ask for three baby back ribs. My ribs were very tender, moist and had a nice smoke flavor. No need for sauce, I did not use any because I am watching my sugar intake, dam doctors. Anyway, the brisket just pulled apart so easily. Oh and it was so good! Lots of great smoke flavor. I asked if they made the coleslaw, and they said everything is made from scratch at their restaurant. I believe them. The coleslaw tasted just like what I make at home. Yes I make coleslaw at home it part of the sugar intake issue, have I said doctors and blood tests are getting in the way of my life yet? Well I eat BBQ anyway. Life is to short. I got my order to go, and wow! This place is the real deal. The brisket literally melts in your mouth. Some of the best I've had. Who would've thought I'd find BBQ this good in the Medical Center? I usually love BBQ sauce, but the dry rub on the chicken was so flavorful that I didn't even need it. The chicken was not greasy at all, just perfectly smoked and packed with flavor. Awesome. The potato salad? Also awesome. Great texture. It wasn't too mushy, not too hard. The creamed corn was sweet but not overly so, just rich and delicious. And the pinto beans? Perfectly cooked, just the right amount of flavor. Oh, and the sausage? Addictive. That peppery kick keeps me going back for more. I can't stop snacking on the leftovers straight from the fridge. So we convinced my dad that's in the hospital let's get bbq he said it was damn good we both like led the bbq and will be back. Found this hidden gem literally by just driving by. Very friendly staff and let me tell you. Fantastic Wagu Brisket, chicken and sausage! Pinto beans were pretty good. Potato salad taste like it was purchased elsewhere but decent. It was a little expensive but I don't mind paying for quality meat. Not really sure why the restaurant was so empty. My colleague s and I dined here for lunch, and it was our first time trying this bbq spot. This restaurant has a convenient location within the medical center. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but seemed to start picking up as we were leaving. The staff were very friendly. The restaurant was clean. They have two TVs and this is a plus to enjoy a show while eating. I ordered the loaded baked potato but it's not the kind of loaded that I'm used to; I still I liked it but it lacked seasoning. Even after sprinkling an excess amount of salt, I still couldn't taste it. I added bbq sauce but it didn't help with the flavor. As a matter of fact, the bbq sauce tasted watered down. I don't know if it was a certain brand or homemade. My colleagues enjoyed their meals. The brisket was cooked to perfection but something was missing. The soda was good and wasn't watered down. In comparison to other bbq joints I've eaten at, this place can't compete. The prices are excellent but I'd pay extra for larger servings and better taste. Came to this restaurant on a whim on a lunch break. Generally I save bbq for when I go back to houston, but decided to try it out. Brisket (2.5/5): I requested the brisket to be moist. At $21 a pound, I felt the price was much better than the $28+ I'm used to. However, I felt it was pretty average. The smoke ring was practically nonexistent, and I definitely had a lot of leaner or dryer cuts mixed into the batch. Flavor wise it was decent, but I would probably stick to Rudy's if I wanted brisket that is priced well. Feeling adventurous this Fiesta Week and being super-hungry today with an appetite for barbecue I decided to try Brickyard BBQ today instead of visiting my usual barbecue haunt. Alas, Brickyard BBQ did not convert me. The saying goes that true barbecue needs no sauce. Well, this is barbecue that DID need sauce. My meal consisted of rather dry baby back ribs and brisket, okay pinto beans laced with vinegar and potato salad that tasted like what you might find readymade in a supermarket. The barbecue lacked the falling-from-the-bone, chewable-bone tenderness you would expect from a place that received an overall four-star rating. If the fare in a certain cafeteria-style barbecue chain is your idea of good, authentic barbecue then your dining experience in Brickyard BBQ will likely make you see four or more stars and maybe planets orbiting them. The service was good though. If the barbecue at least matched the service--or you could actually pit-smoke and eat service--I would recommend Brickyard BBQ. As it is I would say there are many better local eateries to visit for barbecue. read more

Went here for lunch while in the medical center. It is a nice little joint that was clean and welcoming. Walked up to the counter and the family was helpful in their recommendations. We both went with chopped brisket sandwich and a slice of key lime pie to go. The sandwich was solid and plenty of meat on a buttered bun. I work in the Medical Center and really appreciate having a barbecue joint in the area. It's about time. Prior to this I've spent most of my time at Two Bros, Smoke Shack, and 2M. Not a connoisseur but born and raised TX and spent a lot of time in Austin flagship BBQ joints. Let me say that if Bill Miller's is your standard of BBQ excellence, then you are already a lost cause and should continue to go there. Dropped by this place after work for a quick dinner. Mostly empty at late afternoon/evening, seems to be a lunch heavy place given the medical center. Fairly simple inside with metal tables, wood walls, quaint counter with chalkboard menu. Prices are on the higher side of average per my photo. Notably, I found out they'll deliver within the medical center for free if an order for more than 3 people. I got a sliced brisket plate with beans and potato salad. Brisket came with some burnt ends (love) and had a good marbling without being too fatty. The fat that was there was caramelized fully, evidence of long smoking. It was on the milder side of moist and tender with an overall good flavor. I found myself wishing the rub had a bit more zing, but it was good old fashioned smoked brisket. The potato salad is mayo based, and while I usually prefer mustard, I thought it was basic and satisfying for what it was. The beans tasted home made and were satisfying without being overwhelming. Sauce was good, sweet and syrupy, and complimented the meat well. I did find myself wishing there was a spicy version of the sauce. The allure of this place to me is less the food and more the people, to be honest. It's a family run affair by the owners of the (almost awkwardly close) Montessori academy next door attempting to supplement their income while running the school. They were incredibly friendly and engaging from the moment I walked in the door. I got into a discussion of their business and one of the owners proudly described the walls as being from reclaimed wood from various churches in the area and the door as two pulpits fused. They brought me a sample piece of homemade apple crumble which was fresh and probably the best thing there. They're currently working on an outdoor bar area for after work drinks and socializing. They very obviously honest and good people with intentions to continuously improve and grow their beloved new business venture. In summary, the food was pretty average at a fairly average cost, but importantly satisfies the need for an accessible BBQ joint near the medical center. I'm a huge fan of the vibe and the owners, and definitely plan on returning for the occasional after work BBQ fix. Would recommend it. read more
