Three meat plate with brisket, turkey, ribs, beans, and potato salad
Brian B.

I recently selected this spot as my next BBQ destination to try out. I had a few days of from work, so I made the hike out on a Friday afternoon. Having dined at 2M before, I was hyped about this place. The restaurant is off the main road, and it appears to be two separate buildings, one specifically for the smoking. After parking, I eagerly made my way. The place appeared crowded as there were several people in line. This allowed me some extra time to decide on what to get. Although there was a line, the two guys putting the plates together were quick. I opted for the three meat plate, with brisket, turkey, pork ribs and my two sides were beans and potato salad. I opted to just dine at home so I am not sure what the dining room set up is like. All the meats were smoked to perfection, and were tender. The bbq sauce added a little extra to the meat, and I wish I had more of it. I thought the sides were spot on as well. Although it is a bit of a drive, I do plan to make it back in the very near future.

Drove through Castroville this weekend and was unimpressed with the roadside eats right off the highway. I'm so glad we ventured off the highway and landed at Castroville bbq. There was a convenient lot to park right across the street. Walked right up and ordered inside. We got the two pounds of pulled pork platter for $50 with two sides- Mac and cheese/green beans. They were spicy but delicious. The breaded crumble on the Mac and cheese was divine. Sat outside on the patio with our two kiddos and puppy. Ordered drinks from the bar. They have great outdoor seating. Little fans to keep the flys at bay. Not to mention it's totally kid friendly with a playground. Service inside was quick and outside at the bar was friendly also. We'll definitely stop by again on our way through town now that we know this bbq gem exists.

10/10 bbq. Pricey, as expected, its bbq and with meat prices going up prices go up as well. Mac needed a little salt and pepper, but still good. Cole Slaw great, nice and wet. Brisket amazing. Sauce, amazing. They use the same oil to fry the fish in as to fry the fries in. Ratings Peach cobbler 9.2/10 Smashburger 7/10 Nachos 8.5/10 Mac and Cheese 9.5/10 Cole Slaw 9/10 Brisket 10/10 Sauce 10/10 Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage 8.8/10

Out here for work and the local coworker asked me where I wanted to eat. "Lets to go Castroville!" In a confused face he responded"What the heck is out there?" He literally ate those words. A nice peppery and smoky brisket. And the lean portion was so moist and the way it hit the light coming in from the window was mesmerizing. The jalapeño cheddar sausage had the most perfect ratio of cheese and pepper flavor. And a heat that is slight enough to enjoy. My bite into the ribs cant even be called a bite. It held its shape but the resistance from my teeth felt almost nonexistent. Man I could eat these ribs all day. Such a great meal and I even got to check out the pit room as we were leaving. Now my coworker knows what the heck is out there in Castroville. Lol.

I came for a yelp event and was supposed to get the bbq sandwich; however they were already sold out. Must be good! I didn't mind, though. They switched it out for a meat plate and I got brisket, cheesy potatoes, and green beans. They brisket was sooooo good! I've been wanting some good bbq meat! I haven't found one that just stands out in SA. The cheesy potatoes were yummy, just a little greasy for what my stomach can tolerate! I did enjoy them, though. The green beans were good at first but then it was just way too much salt!! I had my family try it and they all said they same thing. It seemed like a great place to take your family! The entrance is on the left side, I got confused and had to walk all around to get in. They had seating inside and outside. It seemed clean and kept well. I'm going to have to check it out with some friends again.

Delicious and fast. Workers offered their favorite recommendations from cold pasta salad to the hot creamy corn side dishes. Clean and organized, servers talked with and prepped the dishes In front of you.

Ribs. Brisket. Mac and cheese. Potato salad.

Well worth the drive. We got there as soon as they opened for the most fresh experience. My favorite protein had to be the ribs. The sauce that you can ad just puts it over the edge. The brisket was okay. A little salty but could've have just been the day. My favorite side was the baked Mac and cheese. Perfect cheese ratio if you don't late tour Mac too creamy. Service was amazing. If you have any questions they're super quick and helpful.

Amazing bbq and super friendly service in Castroville. I went to try their rebrand and have gone back SO many times since. Pro tip, follow them on insta since they post their specials. I've tried their brisket, ribs, nachos, and turkey and all are SOOOO good. Very juicy and seasoned perfectly. They have 2 bbq sauce options (spicy and regular) and both are tasty. For sides my favorite are their ranch beans, fries, and Mac and cheese. The peach cobbler is also a must order (especially with ice cream) I love that they also offer plates but their sandwiches are my personal fav. The restaurant is super cool too and has an outdoor bar and a playground for anyone with littles.

I got to try some of the new items on the menus and they are AMAZING! The nachos were so generous, I loved all the toppings , the cheese was chefs kiss The Turkey sandwich was so juicy and soft. I think it might be one of my favorite items. The peach cobbler is out of this world, get it with the ice cream!

Ribs, brisket, cheesy potatoes.

Best BBQ in the San Antonio area. Hidden in a great little town. Worth the drive out for sure. So much parking available you will never have to worry about that. Food, amazing. I've had all the meats and they are all amazing. Sides, go for Cheesy potatoes.

Little bit of all the meats and some tasty green beans

Absolutely the best BBQ within a drive from San Antonio! Definitely won't be disappointed in the family oriented atmosphere and excellent customer service provided by staff. The restaurant is an old meat market and you can still see the remnants of that. The smell of the savory brisket, chicken, turkey and sides consumes you from the entrance and there is no turning back! Divulge you must! Their sides are classic yet their own and you can't go wrong with anything you choose!

The Holy Trinity of Texas BBQ. Brisket Pork Ribs Sausage Mac & Cheese and Coleslaw for the side.

IMO, these are the ratings: Food: 4.1/5 Service: 4.4/5 Ambiance: 4.7/5 Total: 4.4/5 The meats are superb and the sides complement them very well!

Castroville BBQ we go back to before the transformation a while back and here is my updated review as I had the opportunity to try it under the new name Castroville BBQ! Visited on a Friday evening and there wasn't many people aside from a couple ordering in front of me turns out on a nice evening people were enjoying the outdoor area! I ordered the 2 meat plate included the sliced brisket and pork ribs with the 2 sides cream corn and baked Mac and cheese. The brisket was ok a little dry compared to Blu Lacy and the pork ribs were meh. The baked Mac and cheese was dry and the cream corn was sweet and creamy that side is where it was! My wife ordered the brisket nachos, crispy nachos layered in white spicy queso topped with shredded brisket this is where it's at! The prices are reasonable and I noticed more options as well as the bar offerings are reasonable price and variety of beer and mixed drinks. I enjoy the fact that they have a play area for the kids while your enjoying your food and drinks overall atmosphere is great and live music makes it for an enjoyable atmosphere! Overall, a bit disappointed in the bbq however I do enjoy the atmosphere I'll be back to try out their burgers and don't sleep on those brisket nachos they are amazing! Also noticed no more Stubborn soda. :(

The shop is made from an old gas station that was converted into a cafe. They serve pastries along with a wide range of coffee beverages. I always find myself drawn to their seasonal drinks, which are usually themed around something fun. This year's holiday menu was Ice Age themed, but I remember last year being Shrek themed, and I think there was even a Top Gun themed menu at some point over the summer. For the Ice Age menu, I got a Manny which was a Chocolate Orange Mocha drink. I got it hot and it was great! The space inside is quiet, nice, and well lit. It's a great place to get work done. In the past, I've noticed the wifi could be tragically slow, which made some tasks difficult. During my most recent visit, though, I don't recall the wifi being slow at all, so it seems like that issue has been fixed. There is also plenty of outdoor seating if you get lucky with one of the three nice weather days in San Antonio. I really like the coffee here. For such a small shop, they do a great job, and it has become an essential stop for me every time I am in Castroville. RIYL: Coffee shops that are old gas stations but do not have a functional gas pumps anymore, so you don't accidentally get gasoline instead of a latte. I hate when that happens!!

No. Did I know there was a Castroville-favorite restaurant there as well? Also no. We had to try it. Located inside the Alsatian Golf Club's clubhouse is their 19th-hole restaurant and bar: Julianna's Restaurant. Upon entry, you realize the place has been around for some time. It feels very classic San Antonio, with wooden walls accented by tan and white bricks. The restaurant's aged interior gives it a cozy, lodge-like charm. Though the restaurant was pretty busy on a Saturday night, we were seated instantly at a booth that gave me a perfect view of the Georgia-Alabama game on the bar's TV. After nine or eighteen holes, you never know what you're in the mood for. That's why Julianna's has plenty of options: sandwiches, pizzas, pasta, seafood, steaks, and other meat dishes. Our server came by very quickly and got us our drinks, which for me was a tall Saint Arnold Oktoberfest. I had a tough time deciding between two options: a bone-in pork chop or their creamy Cajun pasta. I opted for the bone-in pork chop with a Caesar salad, bacon green beans, and herb rice. My dad got the creamy Cajun pasta, and my mom got the Southwest chicken. It wasn't long until the Caesar salad came out, with huge croutons and a generous helping of dressing. It was excellent to the point my mom wished she had ordered it over her chicken tortilla soup, which she also enjoyed. If you ever order a meat entrée and they stick a steak knife in it, you're in for an ESPN Instant Classic. The pork chop was huge, topped with a house raspberry chipotle sauce. It was tender and cooked well. I'll admit, trying to find the bone versus the pork was a challenge, but I think that was a me issue. I would order it again. As for the sides, the bacon green beans were sneakily running for Sixth Man of the Year, and the herb rice paired with the pork chop quite well. I would go back. The meal was high quality and felt like a hidden gem even for longtime Castroville residents. What a treat. RIYL: Going to golf courses while being very bad at golf.

Avocado, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pico de gallo, and even some kettle chips! Turkey was tasty deli thin cut, flavors came together well. Texas Toast was grilled with the right amount of butter an oil (you know how often places serve it drenched in oil!). I will say that the cheese was a little firm and the sandwich a little lukewarm for a "melt". Chose *Potato Salad as the side, which was tastier than expected; appreciated that there was not as much mustard or vinegar as most. *Mushroom Swiss Burger ironically had cheese that was far more melted than the Turkey Melt. Which was awesome, of course. Fresh and flavored sliced mushrooms (unlike them fried ones), a tasty fat patty (moist, tender, maybe a little extra flavor needed), and buttery, slightly sweet buns.
