I am so happy I found this little hidden gem in Castroville. I was looking for a place to eat and kill sometime before an appointment and saw this on yelp. We went around 1 PM on a Saturday. It was not too busy. We were greeted right away and seated. Lucinda was super nice. The house is so cute. They have inside and outside seating. Parking is available on site. We shared a few items. We had the ceviche, the corn ribs, the shrimp scampi, and the pineapple cheesecake. Everything was delicious. The ceviche comes with housemade chips. When it comes out, it looks like it's a small portion, but it actually is a pretty good shareable size. The corn ribs were a hit. They have a little kick to them, but not too spicy. The shrimp scampi had great flavor. The cheesecake was delicious. It came topped with habanero sauce which gave it a little sweet and spicy taste. It was a great combination. I had a glass of wine with my lunch. Wine is decently priced. I would love to return in the evening and have a seat outside. read more

Tucked away from FM 417, north of Castroville, lies Dorn Michelle's. It's easy to miss from the road as the restaurant appears as only an old house at first glance. With its homey charm inside, the relaxed atmosphere outside, and the friendly service; it is a nice place to unwind and enjoy a peaceful lunch. The menu has a variety of German, some Texas twists and Asian dishes to choose from. The chef is the son of the owner and does his own research for interesting recipes ideas. Most are a hit. Can't go wrong with the ceviche or rangoons to start off and to get the taste buds going. The Firecracker Chicken is one of my favorites so far, if you want an Asian dish with a kick to it. The NY steaks are good when prepared med rare and the schnitzel with red cabbage and potatoes were delightful. If you want a real treat though, go with the pepperjack smothered chop and you can Danke schön me later. Gotta save some room for desert, because the pineapple cheesecake with habanero sauce is unreal. When I'm acting bad as I often do, I go with the Belgian waffle with a scoop of ice cream. The waffle tastes like the authentic ones you order in Europe made with real Danish cookie dough, or least it appears so to me. read more

This trip Service 5/5 Food 3.5-4 We recently came for dinner service as a group of 6 on a weekend. Restaurant wasn't packed and we were seated immediately and our server was super friendly. We ordered a couple of drinks and a variety of their dishes- jagerschnitzel ala Holstein per our server, jagerschnitzel, firecracker chicken, and chicken adobo. Food coming out was very very slow! I had to sip my sangria slowly as I needed food to pair. We were all starving. Maybe a complimentary bread basket might be nice to hold customers over while food is prepared. My jagerschnitzel ala Holstein was underwhelming and bland. The schnitzel had a nice breaded texture, but the sauce was scant and flavorless. The sauerkraut as well had no flavor and the potatoes were nice and crispy, but dry. I had to add salt and pepper as well as my friend who ordered the same dish. The entire dish needed a lift. I ate the entire dish because I was so hungry. The chicken adobo dish needed some tweaks. Can't tell from the pic, but the portion was small. Two guys at our table ordered it and finished it within minutes! The chicken breast was dry too. Not enough food for the price charged. I'm all for supporting local establishments. Loved this restaurant. Unfortunately when we went they were out of chicken and New York Steak. That ruled out a good portion of the menu. However the burgers and schnitzel that we had was excellent. Visited a little wine tasting place and was told about the restaurant next door. The food is delicious! I had the day's special which was a breaded bone-in pork chop with string beans & potatoes, sweet potato corn muffins, and mac & cheese. Was very good! At first had a difficult time trying to decide because there were many items on the menu that I wanted to try. The service was also very pleasant and the staff very warm & friendly. This was a wonderful surprise experience as we had never been here before and stumbled upon it through google search while on a day road trip from San Antonio. The food incredible good. We have been seeing this place on a Facebook page that we are a part of, and people have been loving it! It just opened a few weeks ago on March 25th. We arrived as soon as they opened, outside it looks like a small country house with a lot of parking! We walk up to the open door and a very nice lady was sweeping and she said hello and come on in, sit anywhere you like. So, we chose a seat inside the first room, and it was very nice inside, all new paint and furniture with nice decor. She came back quickly, and we chatted about the weather a little and she took our drink and appetizer order. She quickly came out with our drinks, a few minutes later our app arrived! We ordered the Crab Rangoon, we got 6 of them with a great sauce! These Rangoon were great, seemed very fresh and handmade, not full of just cream cheese but with meat and veggies! Best Rangoon I've ever had! We received our food about 12 minutes after that, I got the Pork Schnitzel plate! (Which was huge) The schnitzel was cooked perfectly and had good flavor I really enjoyed the cabbage and capers as well! My wife got the Steak and Frites (another huge plate), the steak was cooked a little more than she asked but was very tender, the Chimichurri had good flavor and also came with a horseradish sauce that was great, and a huge portion of fries or frites! Stuffed to the brim we ordered the Pineapple cheesecake! The cheesecake was great! It came with a pineapple habanero sauce and walnuts! The sauce and nuts paired perfect with the cheesecake in my opinion. Great family-owned place with great service! We have eaten at Dorn Michelle's several times. The first couple of times the food was really good and we enjoyed being able to sit inside or outside. They have a unique set up with the kitchen in a separate building out back. The service was always good. Took a day trip to Castroville and stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant. We felt welcomed and appreciated when we arrived and took in the scenery. A beautiful historic farm house with a nice patio and just a great overall vibe. The food was excellent! We started with the Garlic Hummus and it was sooooo tasty. The pita bread was warm and soft and the olives were an amazing touch For our main courses, we had the the grilled chicken wrap and the bone in pork chop sandwich , both were delicious! An outstanding dining experience! My wife decided that she wanted to try Dorn Michelle's, so I gave in... Wow! What a great Alsatian German style meal. We certainly will be back! Both of us had the Schnitzel Ala Holstein, Lemon caper-brown butter, red wine sauce, fried egg, braised red cabbage, crispy red potatoes. The meal was delicious! We finished with a slice of homemade cheesecake - to go; it was amazing!!! The atmosphere was superb and quaint. My wife and I heard about Dorn Michelle's from a friend so we decided to check it out. It's located off FM 471N and about 5 miles from hwy 90. It's located in what I believe is an old farmhouse turned into a somewhat upscale restaurant for Castroville. We arrived just a little after they opened and were the first ones there. We started off with the crab rangoon. Cream cheese and artificial crab with scallions stuffed into six won ton little purses and served with a sweet chili dipping sauce, delicious. Next up, I had the bacon avocado cheddar burger. The beef patty was seasoned well and had a light char similar to a smash burger and it was also very tasty. The avocado relish really hit it home. My wife had the ultimate patty melt. I was able to sneak a bite and it was also very flavorful. My wife didn't want fries but she really wanted to try the avocado dip, so they let her sub French fries for the avocado dip with chips, which I thought that was very generous. Everything was so good that we took our daughter there the next day for lunch. We had the Rueben sandwich and my daughter had the chicken bacon ranch sandwich. She said it was the best chicken sandwich she's ever had and she eats a lot of chicken. So why only four stars? The service is slow, but the server couldn't have been nicer. this place is fairly new so they are a little under staffed. I think they're trying to figure out when their busy times are. Be patient and enjoy the food and drinks. We will definitely be back. read more

Well our food took too long to be served. It would have been good to be served some bread but all the waitress said all they had was regular white bread. We passed on that. My wife ordered a regular beer and was served a dark beer. The place is nice and cozy. They have dining inside or out side in the patio. On the way out no one thanked us for our business not even the owner who was in our path going out. Two couples show up and one of the gentlemen order a regular Lone Star and got a Lone Star light The beers were served by two different waitresses. Food was good. My husband and I stumbled upon this delightful spot while we were exploring Castroville. We had our puppy with us so we were looking for someplace that had adult beverages and food but also pet friendly. We were NOT disappointed!!! They greeted us promptly and handed us Sunday menu, which they noted was more casual. It listed several types of sandwiches, salads and appetizers. We had the crab Rangoons to start which were tasty and hit the spot. My husband had an ice cold Modelo and I enjoyed a mimosa. We loved the outdoor patio with a nice breeze and plenty of shade. Our meal was served hot and fresh. We ordered the bacon cheese burger and grilled chicken sandwich. We didn't leave a morsel behind! I regret not taking a picture of our meals. This place is amazing!! Was initially hesitant of the eclectic menu..there didn't seem to be a cohesive style or theme. But this place is great!
