Service was great, love the environment. Only issue is they do not have really anything to eat for people with shellfish allergy. I know it isn't their issue but I wish more places would take it into consideration since so many people have the allergy. The Mac and cheese is good though! That's what I was able to eat! Everyone in my family enjoyed their meal! read more

Smoke'd - View - Barbeque Near Me - Shallotte, North Carolina

I always check online menus before I decide on eating somewhere to make sure that they have something I would like. My fiancé and I met two friends of ours here to eat dinner. I was going to get their southern belle pasta. When we were seated and given menus, I noticed that there were a lot of items on their menu that were marked out with sharpie... Including the pasta that I planned on getting. Which then put us in an awkward situation because there was nothing else on their menu that I eat except the fries... The waitress was kind and explained that it is because they are about to completely change their menu and change the whole name of the restaurant in fact. Which is understandable, but in that type of situation, they should also update their menu online not just the physical copies that they have inside the restaurant. It made dinner with our friends, awkward because everyone was eating a full meal except me, because the items that I would have ate, were not on their menu anymore. Attached to my review are photos of the online menu and their in store menu so you can see the differences. Was a disappointing experience. read more

One of our favorite places to eat! We stumbled upon this place a couple years ago while on a business trip... decided to come back for my birthday and they didn't disappoint. The low country boil is my favorite. And corn hole is always fun! read more

Amazing food and service! Ribs, chicken, and brisket were cooked perfectly! We loved all of the sides, especially the baked beans and Brussels sprouts! Our server was gracious and very attentive! Overall, an awesome experience; we look forward to our next visit! read more

The Good: staff was friendly and provided good service. The vibe was pretty chill, big screen TVs and a good sized bar. The menu was good with nice selections. The Not so Good: I ordered the basic pulled pork sandwich. Since the sauce and slaw came on the side, I figured it would be hard to go wrong. It was nice and lean, not a lot of fatty meat as I have experienced before with pork sandwiches. However, it was soaked in vinegar. Way too much vinegar. It completely overpowered the flavor of the smoked meat. Some might mistake it as salt, but it was burning my chest on the way down. If it had not been for the fact that I was starving, I probably would have thrown it out. I choked down as much as I could then drank lots of water. I cannot say do not recommend because some folks might like vinegar soaked Q. It's a Carolina thing, but I've had lots of Carolina Q and most have been vinegar based and very good. I would recommend the cook cut down on the vinegar. The sprouts were good! read more

Nothing special here. The pulled pork was dry, tough and mostly tasteless. (No smoke flavor, no discernable rub). 4 different BBQ sauces from various parts of the country. The one I ordered, was not the sauce I got, way too sweet for me. The best thing going was an appetizer corn ribs with these small tasty peppers. Cole slaw was creamy and runny. Service average. Large space inside, with several local craft beers on tap. The rolling electronic board with the beers changes so frequently, it takes a long time to cycle through the selections being offered and then narrowing down your choices. read more

This is a great waterfront dining experience. Their servers and bartenders are all great and friendly. Their food is excellent. We had the mozzarella sticks, corn ribs, and egg rolls for our appetizers. And each one was delicious. I had the house salad with brisket and my wife had the shrimp and grits. Both were great! Couldn't have asked for a better BBQ experience while in Holden (Shallotte)! read more

Went to Smoked a week or two ago. Figure I would order the ribs and have a delicious meal. The ribs came out and didn't look too bad. My mouth was watering as I was ready to dig into these juicy carnivorous beefy ribs. As I cut them open And spread them apart, I expected the meat to purely fall off the bone, however, that was not the case. The ends were so overcooked that they were burnt and. Charred. So I cut into the middle section separated the bones. I had a steak knife which I used to cut the meat off, and once again to my surprise, the ribs were so fatty and greasy that I barely got a few bites from each rib. I was truly disappointed based on the fact that Smoked is a rib and pulled pork Mecca in North Carolina. I know better for next time not to order ribs at Smoked. Yes that was the first time I had them. Previous to that I would get pulled pork sandwich, which was good. Never again while I order the ribs at Smoked. Take this for what it's worth but my recommendation is hold off on the ribs. Good luck. read more

Zack is the best bartender ever, he was amazing and made our night 10x better, he was fast and polite and have great conversations with us

The chicken that came out on the salad was over cooked and was dark meat. I don't ever remember getting dark meat on a salad, always white meat. I tasted one piece and it was like mushy and tasted weird. Service was good, but they didn't have a lot of customers. I don't see going back. read more

Staff was nice, sides were good. But brisket was way overcooked and drier than the Sahara

Great location, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. Incredibly dry brisket lacking any signs of a smoke ring. I honestly thought maybe this brisket was baked for how dry/tough it was and the overall lack of any smoke flavor. The cook, Chad? also seems to talk a lot of trash online for how good a cook they are, while putting other people down. It seems with their results at this restaurant, they leave a lot to be desired. This is the cook's online profile where they indulge in all sorts of profane laced boastful tirades, while simultaneously looking for prostitutes on the platform: https://www.reddit.com/user/Murky-Property762/ I think with a new cook this place could truly prosper, but this entire restaurant is currently being held back by a stubborn single rotten person. Their personality is just as bad as their meat smoking abilities. read more

The mustard bbq sauce was amazing! We took it home and used the rest for home cooked meals. Good drink specials depending on the day. Food was ok and service was a bit slow and not especially friendly, although he did only charge us for 2 beers when we ordered three. I got a Cobb salad which didn't include bleu cheese or avocado. My partner ordered a sandwich- the menu listed Texas toast which was just normal bread. Several families at dinner all around us.l read more

Great food and atmosphere. Best brisket I've ever had. Good selection of beer too. Highly recommend.

We dined here for my birthday meal, and it was a great choice. The food was terrific, our waiter was fun and conversational and their seasonal cocktails were delicious and original. We loved the view of f the water behind us and it was a great place to take the whole family. read more

So last year when I ate at Smok'd I gave it 5 stars and that's why I returned last night. BUT my experience was very different - Waiter had as much personality as a dead fish. He truly acted like it was our fault he has to work. Noise level was extremely loud - I know it was trivia night but seat people who aren't playing in another area! Food portions were SMALL! The brisket was tender but had a lot of fat. Idk if I'd bother ever going back. Such a shame for a good location! read more

The staff greated us outside telling us how yummy the day's specials were. We were seated promptly as they had just opened. We started with the brisket egg rolls. They had collards, brisket, black beans with a remoulade and tiny tomatoes. It was really tasty. They have a full bar and feature several moonshiner cocktails. They also have numerous craft and local beers and a nice selection of wines. I ordered the special of the day brisket Philly cheesesteak. My husband ordered the brisket plate with slaw and Mac n cheese. Honestly, the Philly cheesesteak was more of a po boy. The bread just couldn't handle the meat. I ended up eating it with a fork. I had the Brussels as my side. They were fried and bitter - not my favorite. The sandwich juices made the piece of wax paper dissolve on the metal "tray/plate". The brisket was a little dry. But the spicy Texas sauce helped with that. Honestly I think the paper it was served on soaked up much of the juices. The Mac n cheese was bland. It needs seasoning. My husband enjoyed the slaw. They make their corned beef in house. I'll try that when we venture back over. The chicken sandwich looked good as well. The portions were appropriate. Don't expect left overs. You get one free sauce. Extras are 75c each. They are owned by Wings and Fish. read more

I've been wanting to try this place. I'm not the biggest fan of smoked food so I wasn't sure but this place was wonderful. The food was wonderful and I went back a couple of days later to try other things because yes, I'm very happy with this place, only sad part of waiting so long to try it definitely one of my new go to places and I don't go out that much Because my ankles will swell if it's salty and my stomach is very sensitive. Didn't have any problems with the food there affecting me like some other places so I am very happy to add this one to my new go to list. read more

The food was definitely good and I would be nit picky on just a fee small things. We got 2 appetizers the wings and nachos with pulled pork. Pulled pork was a huge portion very tasty loved their quest. The guacamole was only ok. The wings my only gripe was they don't sauce them. We got buffalo wings and sauce was on the side. I also tried their Alabama white sauce. It's different than others bit I really liked it. Lynette was our server and she was absolutely awesome. She really carrs that you had an enjoyable meal. We will return. read more

I've eaten here three times now. It's a favorite of mine. None of those times was very busy. Normally, I order the smoke'd BBQ original and collard greens (both delicious which is remarkable because cooking collards is a fine art), but the last time I ate there I had the smoke'd Cuban which was OK and the baked beans which were pretty awful. I've also had the "perfect margarita" which was far from being the perfect margarita. It was clean, quiet, servers were attentive and accommodating (we had my infant granddaughter with us). My husband had the swamp fries and they were pretty great too. The fries were cooked perfectly and the little red chilies were delish. Would go here again and I always look forward to driving by just to inhale the delightful aroma that emanates from it. read more

Went to Smoke'd for my dad's 60th birthday. The restaurant was clean and inviting for the theme. We enjoyed walking outside on the riverfront. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. We highly enjoyed our food. I wasn't the biggest fan of the mac & cheese, but my two year old niece happily ate my side and she enjoyed it very much. read more

Executive summary: Mediocre, uninspired, and over-priced barbecue Our server steered us to a sampler that had 4oz of the pulled pork, 4oz of brisket, 1/4 rack of ribs, 1/4 smoked chicken, two sides, two sauces for about $32. We shared it and chose the fries and mac-n-cheese for our sides. The pulled pork was the best of the proteins. It was moist and had a hint of a smoky taste. 4oz of "thick cut" brisket consisted of two small pieces, maybe 2 inches long and less than 1/4" thick. It was dry, flavorless, and had no bark -- blah. The smoked chicken had the characteristic pink coloring that comes from smoking; I thought it was moderately moist but flavorless. The ribs were overcooked, dry, flavorless, and a waste of calories. Smoke'd thinks highly of their sauces and dishes them out in 1/2 cup servings. Extra sauce comes with extra cost. We tried the moonshine and Kansas City sauces and to be honest I couldn't tell either one of them from the barbecue sauces you buy in the grocery store. The sides were very good. The "sidewinder fries" were a premium side and came with an up charge. I have no idea what made them "sidewinder fries" or why they cost extra, but in fairness they were served hot and were good. The mac-and-cheese appeared that it was made from scratch and was also good. Portion sizes for both sides were big enough to share. Our server was friendly and helpful up until we ordered. After our meals arrived, she checked in on us once and it seemed like we were inconveniencing her when we needed refills and to-go boxes. If you go to Smoke'd expecting that you've found some hidden gem of a barbecue restaurant at the beach, you'll be disappointed. If you are craving barbecue in this part of Brunswick county, just accept that Smoke'd is going to deliver an expensive meal that's probably not as good as what you get at home. read more

Nice Place. Driving through Shallotte, we pulled a uturn and stopped in for dinner. Great choice- Brenda was our server for our meals. She gave me plenty of time to work through the robust draft list and never rushed us during our time there. She routinely checked in on us, but never while we had a mouth full. The beer and wife's cocktail were perfect, the meals (we both had the brisket platters) were good as well. Nice level of smoke, nice slices of brisket with a nice mixture of lean and fatty. This place sits right on the Shallotte River, plenty of comfortable seating, inside or outside. Perfect for stopping in anytime. We will, next time through. read more

We just ate here, and will DEFINITELY be back. We walked in with a party of 8, were sat promptly. Our waitress was very attentive. The beer selection and drink specials were great! Yum, this place is so good! I had the shrimp and grits which was outstanding! I don't usually order shrimp and grits because I don't like grits but someone suggested I order it. I was scared..ha..but the dish was so creamy and flavorful! I loved it! And promptly devoured it! My husband ordered the pulled pork which came with beans and delicious Brussel sprouts sprinkled with cheese. The only disappointment was the cole slaw..not really any taste. I would highly recommend this restaurant! Get yourself there!! read more

Our server was AMAZING. She should definitely be a salesperson. We asked her for her recommendations and she was amazingly detailed with the flavors and food offered. My family and I visited this establishment a couple of days ago. When we got there, we were standing at the front door and the host walked away without greeting us or acknowledging us. After a short time, he came back and said something but was very quiet and we still didn't know what was going on. We asked a waitress to help us and she was very pleasant. He was there when we got to the table and there was a foul smell coming from him and he just looked dirty. Not a good look when you first walk in. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. The brisket was delicious but the ribs were burned. Couldn't eat.

Had the smoked chicken quarters for dinner last night and they were absolutely delicious. So moist and tender cooked perfectly. My meal literally could not have been better. I had the potatoes and asparagus as my sides also cooked to perfection. Also tried some of the slow smoked brisket also perfection. The hot Texas bbq sauce is maybe some of the best bbq sauce I've ever had. The new chef there is continuing and improving this restaurants stellar reputation for smoked meats. Would recommend highly. Update: our second trip was a huge success! The Brisket Burger- a special- was delicious. That is saying a lot from my daughter who is a burger connoisseur! There was a lot of continuous nodding going on as my daughter ate. She says it is everything you want in a good smash burger. Juicy, tender, flavorful. The Mac n cheese was creamy and Smokey. Noodles cooked perfectly again. The Porkey sandwich had great flavor and with the creamy coleslaw, pickles and pickled onions was full of yum! Of course we HAD to Get the Apple crisp dessert again. We contemplated getting JUST that for dinner. We were greeted quickly and seated promptly. Our waiter, Tate, was very pleasant, knowledgeable and responsive. Fun selection of moonshine specialty cocktails. Ordered the Porky with Mac and cheese. The pork was tender, but would have liked a bit more smoke flavor. The bun was toasted perfectly. Slaw was the perfect topper. Pickled okra, onion and pickles were light and great on top, too. Mac and cheese made with white cheeses was so much more appealing than those made with yellow cheeses. Would have liked a touch more seasoning and liquid, but the noodles were cooked well. Make sure you save room for the apple cobbler with cinnamon ice cream! I would come back for JUST that any day!! YUM!! Would have been a 5 star with a little bit more Smokey flavor in the pulled pork. Price was very reasonable. read more

Positive 1st: atmosphere and service was great! Had the pulled pork sandwich, fries and "smoke'd" mac & cheese. Pork had zero smoke flavor and tasted like it was cooked in an oven, not a smoker; mac & cheese was room temp and like glue, no smok'd flavor and fries were not hot and tasted like thet had been sitting for al long time. Brisket was just OK. I love good BBQ but this place falls short. I think they need an experienced pitmaster who can put some flavor in the meat and most importantly...SMOKE! read more

Really cool spot right on the water. We were seated in the back patio/indoor area and we were able to look at the water. Shades to pull down when the sun starts to set so it isn't blinding you and plastic to put over the windows when it gets cold. We went there for a group dinner and our service was quick and accommodating. The beer selection is large and has many different kinds which was awesome. I got the Porky sandwich and thought it was just ok. The bun needed a little more firmness to it as the pork is juicy and combine that with the hot sauce and its just a mess and difficult to eat. The Mac and cheese was awesome. I loved having that as my side and even would have requested that the side item be a little bit bigger. Some other members of my party got the tacos and mixed reviews were present on the tacos. The ladies seemed to like them while the guys were left feeling hungry. Might suggest ordering a side with the tacos if you're feeling extra hungry. Overall I felt it was a good spot to grab a beer, a quick/easy bite to eat and to socialize with friends. They were more than happy to split our bill into separate groups. read more

The brisket is good. But the portions are small for the price. The burgers look like they come off a truck not home made.

The food is good, so long as they aren't busy. However, if you have any kind of allergy it's not for you. Main stream, mass produced food. Allergies are an after thought and even stuff that could be done allergy free isn't. Staff is not well trained and mostly apathetic. Unfortunately, shallotte/Holden beach doesn't have a ton of great restaurants and this place os better than fast food but just barely. read more
