Updated review. This place is great. We went yesterday for drinks and to celebrate st Patrick's day with friends of ours. It was extremely crowded but the vibe was friendly and upbeat. It was freezing cold but they had a band outside. I got rum punch and it was delicious . Forgot to take a pic lol. The food is pretty good here I have eaten there before and friendly service. I was in the area, so I popped in for lunch. The place was full but I got the last 2-topper table inside. There were lots of people sitting outside. I wanted to sit outside, but some of the tables were not in any shade. Too hot in the sun today. The bar was full (10 seats, I think). Once again Scuba Steve was my waiter. I ordered the fish and chips. I was told I could order regular fries, sweet potatoes, or onion rings. Well, one must have the correct chips! Watch out when you take your first bite. Both the fish and chips were pipping hot - right out of the fryer. The haddock was very tender while the batter was so crispy. Loved it and the chips too. Both were not greasy at all. Cooked perfectly It also came with a small cup of coleslaw, which was tasty and not overly heavy with mayo. I do think the pricing is a little on the high side for some items but the portions and quality of the food outweighs it. I plan to return and will bring my husband. This is the second time I've tried food from Fibber Mcgees and I really enjoyed it. We ordered takeout to take to the beach and our food was ready on time when they said it would be and everything was still somewhat warm by the time we got there and ate it. We tried the pimento cheese with crackers and slices of cucumber app and it was delicious. Also, the Reuben eggrolls were fabulous. What a unique idea they had making this appetizer. One person in my group had a shrimp burger that said it was the best shrimp burger they've ever eaten, and I tried the cheeseburger and it was good with the coleslaw. They have a great app selection and lots of good options to choose from and it's easy to get to. I definitely recommend stopping here to try their food. read more

We love this place and the freakin' Grouper Bites are so good we always come back when in the area. Discovered this joint in 2021 and revisited now in 2024. It's always busy, so you'll need to be patient. Definitely worth the wait tho. Inside and outside seating. 98.5-A sanitation grade as of 2024. Service is great, place is clean. The ONLY reason for giving a 4 star instead of 5 would be there is NO kids menu and the Grouper Bites (my favorite) is just too small amount for the price! I love them!!! But four nuggs for $15 is steep. I paid it bc it's a vacay treat, but come on!! Give me some more for my bang!! I do love this Sunset Beach restaurant tho. Definitely a staple and treat. read more

After trying to go to some other restaurants that all seemed to be closed on a Tuesday, we tried Fibber McGees for the first time. The parking lot was crowded so we knew it was a good choice. We sat outside. The decor outside was beautiful with nice tables, flowers, heaters and outdoor string lights. Our server came over immediately and took our drink orders. She was very friendly. We each ordered a cup of she crab soup (the soup of the day). The soup was good. I would give it a 4/5. For dinner I just had the appetizer chicken fingers. They were quite tasty, and came out hot which I love. I know it's not hard to make chicken fingers but I've had some bad ones. My husband had the shrimp burger on a recommendation from our server and it didn't disappoint. That burger was legit. After having a bite myself I wish I had gotten it as well. Totally solid meal. This has been a favorite place of ours to eat ever since we moved here almost 5 years ago. The food is amazing. There's nothing on this menu that I have eaten that I would not eat again I highly recommend everything on the menu. The service is impeccable. They really care and go out of their way to make you feel special, I love the ambience of this place. I love being able to eat outside with my family even if it's a little chilly they have heaters that keep you nice and warm. The lights outside are beautiful. We stopped by with friends after a round of golf and had lunch. We sat out on the patio outside and were seated immediately. The host was great offering options on where to sit as it was breezy and a bit chilly as a result. The inside is very small with few seating options and was full. We were glad to sit outside since it was sunny. The waitress was pleasant and we were served quickly. They offer a bread bowl for a limited time so we all chose the she crab soup in a bread bowl. The soup was good but not nearly the best as there is much competition in this area for the best she crab soup. The bread was excellent and made up for the average soup. Got to the restaurant at 1045 am to get a table on st Patrick's Day for all the live music. Was going to stay for all the bands eating and drinking. Planned on having lunch and dinner there. Table of over 8 people and spent $400 in 3.5 hours and was told we need to pay our bill because there were other people waiting for tables. We were ordering drinks the whole time and just finished eating and were planning to stay for the next two bands and have dinner. How does it make sense for a restaurant to tell you to pay your bill and leave the table. As a local I will never be back and support a place we use to enjoy going to. read more

Tried grouper (appetizer) for the first time and it's a great introduction to seafood for a cautious steak-eater. Where do I even begin? Everything was amazing from the start! I walked up and asked how long the wait would be and was told about 15 minutes. Within 5-10 minutes there was a table for my family and I (5 of us total). The service was incredible, the food was absolutely delicious, and not a moment went by that our server didn't make sure we were taken care of and he was incredibly busy. This is such a cute and quaint restaurant and you can tell that everyone loves working here based off of how every guest is treated. You absolutely MUST try their shrimp burger. There is nothing like it anywhere. Specifically how they make it is a big secret. It's peeled shrimp pieces pressed together with herbs in a patty and grilled, placed on a toasted brioche bun with lettuce tomato and remoulade sauce. Their slaw is very good but put a little remoulade sauce in your slaw to step it up a notch. It is SO good, you want to tell everyone you know. But hey, let's keep this a secret between you and I because sometimes there is a wait to be seated and if we tell everyone how great it is the wait might be longer. read more

We had a sandwich and a beer at this Irish Pub. Service was fast. Guinness was always good as usual. Limited seating. Sometimes tough to get a seat according to some customers we smoke with. I had a roast beef wrap and my wife had quesadillas. Limited amount of parking but it is adequate. I am certain they will be busy on St. Patty's Day which is tomorrow. We paid with a credit card. We dined here around 7:30 on a Wednesday and were seated right away. Our server was prompt and friendly. We overheard him recommend the wings to the table next to ours so we ordered and they were definitely some of the best wings I've ever had, period. My dad ordered the fish and chips and they were phenomenal. My husband ordered the French dip and said it was good (he doesn't share), and I got the salmon BLT wrap and the salmon was cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend! The Deets: This recent trip to OIB, I got to make another stop to Fibber McGees Irish pub located midway between Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach, near the Ingram Planetarium. They have plentiful outside seating available as well as a nice inside seating area that is very pub like in atmosphere however a bit small, not very spacious. Our server quickly got us taken care of with drinks and any starters we were wanting to try...I went with the Reuben Spring Rolls. This Reuben sandwich/spring roll hybrid was very good, better than expected actually and the mustard dipping sauce went with the snack pretty well, a good choice for an app/starter if you are undecided. I went with the Fish and Chips entree since we were in a pub setting and it was a spot-on choice...perfectly done and tasty. My companions got the Green Fried Tomatoes BLT type sandwich as well as their Reuben sandwich and they were very happy with their choices also. My drink choices of Shock Top draft beer and Maschio Prosecco Extra Dry were good as well. Our server did a great job in taking care of us, good service with a smile. In all, a nice lunch stop here at Fibber McGees and I would visit them again for a satisfying pub like atmosphere and delicious pub menu eats as well. I am a fan! read more

Service and the patio were great. Very disappointed in the Classic Cheeseburger. My husband and I both got the same - a flat dried out burger covered in cheese with the tiniest container of slaw.
