Someone recommended this place to me, so we gave it a shot today. Lunch was great! I had the combo (half sandwich and a choice of salad or soup) Reuben sandwich with their soup of the day: loaded potato soup. Wow, that soup was so delicious! Thanks to our waitress who recommended it to me. It had nice chunks of potatoes, bacon, onions, scallions, diced ham, and topped with cheddar cheese. The sandwich was good, but not a whole lot of meat. However, for me, it was enough. And it wasn't drenched in the dressing, but a nice amount. DH had the steak and Guinness pie, which was topped with a puff pastry. The meat was very tender and it included carrots, peas, and potatoes. He did say the dish had potatoes on one half and meat on the other half. It should be added to the plate evenly. In any case, he enjoyed it. We had good service by our waitress, who was kind to give recommendations. Casual atmosphere. Uncomfortable seats. The bathrooms need a good cleaning. Reasonable prices and a nice menu with a variety of foods. Overall, a good Irish pub. We will be back with friends.

Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich

This place is a must go to! The food is awesome, the staff is so friendly and the Irish music just adds to the r place. We got the fried mushrooms for an appetizer, they were so good we got a second, my husband got a chicken sandwich but they tossed it on a buffalo sauce for him, I got the cheesesteak it was so good, my daughter got the bangers and mash( so good), the bangers are from Ireland, my son got grilled shrimp and fries. Go and check them out, they have a pub inside and outside they have an outside bar.

Hawaiian burger

Food: delicious. Drinks plenty. I had the non bun burger on the menu and it was fantastic! My son had the Hawaiian burger and just inhaled it in quiet lol so the fact that happened was a sign it was going to become a regular place. He requested it again recently and since this review have gone 3 times. My youngest only wanted the fresh masked potatoes and did a job on those. He loved the chicken tenders and Mac and cheese the other two times. They ended their nights with fried Oreos or cheesecake. Interior/exterior: typical Irish pub and I loved that vibe. The staff was so nice and interactive/attentive. Casual atmosphere, smalls interior, live music playing on the patio, outside seating was much more open imo. Inside is a mixture of bar stool tables and bar seating too. Small tables and there were limited bird with a couple being partial seating. Bathrooms are clean! Single occupant only but clean!

Rachel Sandwich and French Fries

Another great meal tonight! I didn't receive the credit but they did give me a free French onion soup. Tonight I ordered the Rachel and it was very good and my fries were also great.

Loved the environment and beer. The fish and chips were amazing. Come check it out. Also, great place to come and watch a game.

We love this place. One of our favorite new stops. We try to come here once or twice a week. Staff is fun and fabulous. Food is good, drinks are great, and the setting is inviting. Location is also great for us!

Beef on Weck Sandwich

Had a wonderful lunch here. The Beef on Weck was on point! I was a huge fan of the Beef in Weck at College Deli and this was just as good. . . Actually, it was better! My husband and son had fries as their side and they didn't leave a single one behind. I has a side salad that was delicious as well. Our server was friendly and our orders were correct. We arrived a little after noon and by 12:30 it was packed. It wasn't overly loud and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I'm looking forward to dining here again!

Cute little modern Irish pub! We grabbed lunch on a Sunday and it was super tasty. Highly recommend the beef on weck (kind of like a French dip on a bun) which was so delicious! The fish and chips were really great to. Crisp (not thick) beer batter, flaky cod. The fries too!

Congealed cheese - the most uninspired Mac n chez ever!
TIernan S.

Not good. We ordered potato skins and pretzels for appetizers and they were fine, nothing special but not bad either. The entrees were utterly disappointing! I ordered Mac n Chez with beer cheese - sounded good but it was flavorless and the cheese was congealed. Don't waste your money here. The food is not authentic Irish food, it's crappy bar food that's over-priced.

First time visiting and I was not disappointed! It was a nice experience! We only went for cocktails. The menu has some really good choices for food. We will be back! I'm really looking forward having the food.

The building certainly needed a paint job. Four of us had reservations and our table was ready when we arrived. We've eaten here several times in the past and were looking forward to a good dinner. The place was pretty full. We ordered drinks to start. Mine was missing for 7-8 minutes after the rest got theirs. Our waitress was apologetic. I ordered the Shepherd's pie, which was always my favorite there, and a side salad with blue cheese on the side. My husband ordered the fish and chips. One friend ordered the Irish fried chicken sandwich and a side salad, also with blue cheese dressing. Our other friend wanted a Caesar salad (but it's no longer on the menu) and soup of the day. The waitress said the chef was not making soup because it was hot outside. We scratched our heads at that comment. My friend ended up ordering the steak salad. While waiting, the waitress came out with a very small bowl of blue cheese dressing. Hmmm, was that for two of us to share? Three entrees came out, followed by one salad a few minutes later. The fried chicken sandwich and other salad didn't show up....for long time. The waitress could have brought the salad out. Something happened that the kitchen dropped the ball on his order. His finally came out after the three of us were just about done with our meal. His chicken breast was small. He had to ask for his blue cheese dressing and the waitress looked at the bowl that was in front of me with an expression that made us think we did have to share it. It was enough for one salad, not two. She did bring out some for him. My friends steak salad was served in a huge, deep bowl. The amount of salad could have fed all four of us. It was topped with the steak, which wasn't a big portion and on the dry side. I was disappointed with the Shepherd's pie. The mashed potatoes, thick dollops instead of the potatoes spread out in an even layer, were on the dry side, not creamy at all. The ground beef and vegetables were okay, just not a lot of flavor. My husband's fish and chips were very good. A big piece of battered fish! The fries were good too. It was probably the best meal of the night. The waitress gave a 10% discount to our friend who had to wait a long time for his meal. My husband and I also got a 10% discount, which was unnecessary. Honestly, our friend's meal should have been taken off the bill in its entirety. Then when we get the bill, there is some sort of surcharge, which the waitress couldn't explain was it was for. The staff should know, and it should be annotated on the menu. Be up front with your extra charges, don't make customers find out at the end of the meal. I even heard one person at the table next to us also question this surcharge. Overall, a disappointing dinner. There were too many negatives over positives. We did note that there were only two waitresses and if I remember correctly, ours was fairly new to the place. But what happened with the missing meal that took so long to get to the table? Will we come back? I'm not sure.

It was a little embarrassed after spending $192, on food and drinks for 4, with glasses still full of alcohol when we're were asked to leave. We were told that they are enforcing a 90 min in restaurant visit...to the point where they don't care if we had finished our beer/alcohol...clearly they just wanted us out. I've been to a lot of restaurants all over the world but this was the first time in my life that I was asked to leave...we weren't loitering we only wanted to finish our drinks before leaving...the person didn't look at our situation...was very black and white, "you've been here more than 90mins". Their food is good, they are as popular as ever but clearly not a place for people who want to chat and hang out...copper penny is a restaurant not a hangout spot...to me that's loud and clear. As someone who isn't in Wilmington often I rely on my previous experience as a stating point to my ( restaurant) choice. Waiter was friendly and attentive, decor was a little outdated but looked like it would be a fun place to hang out and play a round of pool. Irish Boxty came out fast and knocked our socks off because it was filled with creamy mashed potato goodness. The Double Double and onion rings came out the same exact time as her husband's to go order that she had placed later than our meals which I thought was a little odd, considering his food would probably be cold by the time we got done eating our meals but hey it is what it is. Onion rings were very tasty but a little on the greasy side, maybe they were just having an off day. The Double Double was just not for me because it was cooked way too hard with no juice remaining. I mean I love a good smash burger and I know they are supposed to be flat and "smashed" to death, but some of the other smash burgers I've had elsewhere still have the juicy goodness in them.
