Alex was an AMAZING WAITER! So friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, & everything was EXACTLY AS WE ORDERED. He went OVER & ABOVE on everything we asked! This is a little smaller than some restaurants in the area but has a full bar and live entertainment. The food portions are HUGE! Son & his wife had the recommended Philly cheesesteak THAT ARE MASSIVE!! (They did wish there were more peppers & onions) You choose 8" or 11". Both chose the 11" one chose chicken with upgrade of sweet potato waffle fries and the other chose steak with the included steak fries. They also ordered fried mushrooms as an appetizer which were lightly breaded & lightly Italian seasoned AND phenomenal!! Hubby ordered the chicken Parmesan sandwich, it was large and prepared as expected. He chose Cole slaw as his side. and I chose chicken fingers choosing 3 rather than 5 fingers. Lovely place in Shalotte! Menu is extensive but not in a way I think is detrimental. House chips are solid (I consider myself a connoisseur). Burger solid. Rest of my party liked what they had as well. I would go back in a heartbeat. Friendly service as well! read more

Outstanding, FULL, salad. I ordered the Cobb salad take out. I was worried I forgot to ask for extra dressing since most restaurants don't give you enough.... Not Duffers! They have two large dressing portions, large chicken quantity and a full egg! Lots of bacon and fresh tomatoes! The only flaw is that their website prices are different than their restaurant pricing. My wife and I had lunch at Duffer's (Shallotte) late afternoon on 12/22/2025. Onion rings, cold slaw, water service and service in general was very good. However, my wife's chicken tenders were very tough and over battered. Although we took 2 of the 3 tenders home we subsequently just tossed the tenders as there was nothing tender with the chicken. My cheese steak sub was not, in my opinion, correctly prepared. The sub roll was too thick and the cheese appeared to be microwaved as there was more cheese on the roll than was on the steak. I elected to take the what I did not eat home. After separating the meat and cheese from the roll the "guts" of the sandwich had a good taste. A better way would to have taken the time to melt the cheese on the steak using a broiler. The extra wait would have been worth it. We both agreed we would not be rushing back to Duffers any time soon although we were bi-weekly diners to the restaurant before they made their move to their current location. We'll give it another chance but we weren't impressed. I had to send my onion soup back because it was barely lukewarm, and my guest didn't really like the sandwich. The seasonal beers on tap were good. The waitress was very nice, but another waiter kept dropping things on the floors and it wasn't a great ambiance. My husband and I love To go to Duffers. Food is almost always good and very reasonable. We prefer to sit at the bar. Today the bartender watched as we sat down, no greeting, just busy talking with her co-worker. Got a greeting and a beer than looked at the menu. Caught eyes with her as she was still talking to her co-worker and said we are ready. She kept talking and I kept looking.....she finally says, "I'm sorry we work together tonight behind the bar and we are just strategizing". I guess that is more important than greeting customers upon arrival and taking their order when they are ready. Two other sets of people sat at the bar afterwards and both were delivered wrong items with their food orders. Customers FIRST needs to be remembered these days. Such a shame. read more

I was here 8 years ago in the old location. I've been to the new location about three times. The wings are still killer and the beer choices are great! But the real difference is when Joes your bartender! This guy exemplifies Customer Service! I asked for a beer not in tap and he went in the back and brought out a mini keg to serve me. He kept me up to date on food prep time and was always on the move to keep his customers happy. Went there last night and had a good meal..the problem is Flies. They were everywhere in the dinning area, can't imagine what was in the kitchen. The problem was that the bar is two sided serving both the restaurant and the outdoor seating area. Large service windows are fully open to the outside and hence the fly population. I sat inside far away from the bar area and spent most of my time shooing flays away from my food. Food was very good, but not worth the trouble it was defending my dinner! 4 stars for the food, 2 stars because of flies. Hope they find a way to fight this problem, would very much like to return. Second time eating her and the food has been acceptable both times. Today I sat at the bar and the dining room was very busy. There was no one at the bar when I sat down at about 12:40 and took about 10 minutes for her to show up. She had no idea who had been waiting or who had just arrived. So she started at the end and worked down the barn, with me at the other end. Finally brought my drink and vanished. After a few minutes I saw her behind me at a table with two young guys talking. After another 10 minutes she found her way to the bar and started talking with one of the customers who had their food. The person next to me got their food cold. Almost perfect with every visit! Love going here on a regular. They raised the prices but you gotta do what you gotta do. I get the Philly cheese steak every time I go and that's all I ever get unless they have some yummy soup! Service has been way better than it used to be,when my grandmother asks for lemon she receives a whole 2 oz cup full! Very attentive and the newer servers are doing well but the older ones are phenomenal! There isn't enough seating for the amount of business they get, like there used to be at the last location and it is very open in the dining room section very noisy when packed, it doesn't bother me none. We enjoyed our lunch. I was excited to see chicken tenders tossed in parmesan garlic sauce! My husband and daughter both said their sandwiches were really good too. Service was slow but they did warn us when we came in to be seated. We also sat outside which I am sure did not help. They do have a bar that ooens to the patio. Met up with some friends here for lunch. All of the staff was very attentive and friendly. Our group get to the door before the crowd so we only had to wait 5 minutes if that for our table to be cleaned. The food was excellent and tasted freshly made. Our waiter was always on hand and took care of our every need and answered all our questions about the specials. After writing a fabulous review after our very first visit, sadly I must report our return visit was not so good. We were gruffly greeted by a young hostess who seemed to be bothered by our presence. A very unhappy girl should not be the face of your establishment. Our server and food was good. I asked to speak with the manager (who was also the bartender), but was ignored until I paid him a visit before leaving. He clearly had no control of the place, serving dual roles. I've eaten at Duffer's several times for lunch but this was my 1st (& probably my last) dinner experience. I had the 2 seafood combo of shrimp & flounder; wanted oysters but they had none. Shrimp was quite flavorful but flounder had zero taste! Cole slaw had pleasant taste. Baked potato cold & requested replacement which was lukewarm & wouldn't melt butter! Beer, on other hand, wasn't cold. Hostess unaware of "guest" internet password. Server, Leanne, much more attentive to larger parties than to this single top diner; plate slung onto table as passed by to other customer. We stopped in for supper on a Thursday evening. We were seated right away by a very unfriendly hostess. Our waiter was very nice and friendly as well as efficient. He is one of the best waiters that we have had in a long time. The fried green tomatoes were amazing! My husband and I both got the grouper. He got his fried, mine was blackened. It was delicious! One of our sons had a burger (it was huge) and obviously delicious. Our other son had buffalo chicken tenders and he said they were good. We shared a serving of deep fried cheesecake with vanilla ice cream. It was scrumptious!!! My only complaint other than the unfriendly hostess was that my baked potato was not fresh and was only warm. Other than that it was a nice meal. We probably will not go back considering all the other restaurants to choose from in the area. read more
