Sad to report that I was pretty disappointed in the sandwich that I got. It's the tucker (turkey) and it had zero flavor. There is a ton of meat in there, but then lettuce and cucumber (which have no flavor) I added mayo, and I think some type of spicy sauce was added ?? Not what I wanted at all. This place has HUGE sandwiches that are loaded with fillings, which is awesome! The flavors are really good and the meat is shaved thin, giving it a really nice texture. I also enjoyed the chickpea salad as a side, but tried my friend's chips and those were delicious as well! It's a lot of food and I had half a sandwich leftover for the next day, so the price is worth it. The inside is very cute and has some seating, and the service was fairly quick. The only problem I had is that there is no build your own option, which I would've loved. When we arrived, the line was a bit long, but service was efficient--we placed our order in about 10 minutes and had our food within 15. We went for all the vegetarian options: the Clara, the Tofu Banh Mi, and the Pepper Pot with Tempeh. Everything was delicious, but the Pepper Pot really stood out--it had a hint of sweetness from the sweet potato purée, paired beautifully with the smoky, toasted ciabatta. Went for lunch with my husband while visiting NC. This was a vegan vegetarian friendly sandwich shop and we were excited to try it! We got three sandwiches- today's special- pepper pot, the Clara's, and tofu bahn mi. Also each got different sides, we got the chips, potato salad and onion tomato salad. It's all about the food, right? Well it was excellent! This cute little house packed in the customers while I was there with my husband, our grandson, and his fiancé. I ordered the Mixto which featured meats and cheese with olive sauce and a tasty mixto sauce on nicely toasted chibatta bread. If I was ever back in the area I'd stop back here in a heartbeat! I also ordered some homemade chips and chickpea salad which IMO was too dry and spicy for me; (my grandson was not a fan either). Hell yeah, I recommend The Half. I think this is one of the highest rated sandwich spots in Wilmington. It definitely comes up when you search sandwiches in the area. I have been here now maybe three times? I have never been disappointed. The options are endless for sandwiches, and they are all just absolutely divine. But I also like about this place in addition to the quick service and food quality, is actually the variety of drinks. I like that you can have beer on tap or can, that they have a variety of soda to choose from, and that they even have sparkling water like La Croix. They are definitely appealing to the masses here with this touch. I have only ever been on a weekend and I just can't even get over how busy this places. Last time I was there I sat at the bar, and I watched the employee ring up customer after customer after customer. I mean there is literally never even like a 45 lull in customers walking in the door and lining up waiting to order. That being said, you would never know it. The employees treat each diner as if they are the only ones there and your sandwiches made with that same special care as if they were only caring about your sandwich. The price is reasonable and overall the vibe is just cool. The indoor space is a little small, if you can't get a table, you may have to sit at the counter with others. There is a lot of outdoor space which is amazing and great weather, but makes it a little tricky when it was very hot or otherwise compromised. But don't be alarmed! Because so many people come and go it is not uncommon for people to finish their meals quickly. If you even just hang around a while, you will probably find a spot. They brought our food to us--the Tucker and the mumbai (yes potatoes on a sandwich works). Both were great and full of flavor, as were the pickles and chickpea salad. Husband grabbed our order that was ready before the quoted time( so far really good). We found a scenic spot to sit under shade in our car because we were starved, we had retrieved our dog and had a two hour no-stops drive ahead of us. Spent approximately $23 (solid value) for the most flavorful sandwich either of us can recall. The tangy garlicky mustard combined with house pickles, onions, and Swiss cheese was AMAZING!!! The flavors were tastebud heaven!!!! Now, we also will die on the top of the mountain of The Half on our FIRST sandwich. My fam and I loved the half when they first opened, but it's gone downhill IMO. It's overpriced, the staff couldn't care less (why are the women that work here always so bitchy and cold??), it's way too busy so you consistently have to wait 20-30+ mins for a sandwich, and again you're paying upwards of $16 for that sandwich. The last few times I haven't even enjoyed them, they've been cold (when they're not supposed to be) and sloppily thrown together. If the owners/management care at all, they should do some quality control. As a service worker myself, I'm constantly stunned by how many businesses employ mean or unfriendly people to work FOH... give someone who deserves it the job.
