Great little local pub in the heart of the Brooklyn Arts District!

Situated right on 4th, The G&C has quickly become our little go to spot once a week. Adorable little local pub with a TON of craft beer selections and extremely friendly service. The best part about this place is the huge back patio area with lots of leafy trees and twinkle lights to give it a cozy atmosphere. There's a porch swing and picnic tables and a Cornhole area. If you are from the north like I am, then you have probably never heard of it either but it's big here and is, as I've discovered, pretty fun. Every time we go on a Friday or Saturday there is always live music. I am actually pretty surprised that this place isn't ever very crowded from what I've seen. It's a great little spot and off the main beaten path of downtown but really worth the trip over. Check it out. (Oh, it's pet friendly too which is super cool. Don't be surprised to see a little cutie with four legs in the seat next to you)

    Outdoor swing!

Looking for a family and dog friendly dive bar? Check out Goat & Compass! It is conveniently located in the brooklyn arts district which means less crowds and easy parking (they have their own lot!). #BAD doesn't even begin to describe this hidden gem. The inside is small but has seating at the bar and a large booth area that doubles as a stage for live music and open mic nights. Often times they will also have a food truck parked outside. Yes the service is wonderful however my favorite part about this bar is the back patio and the regular patrons. The back is open, with a swing, multiple picnic tables, heaters for the winter and a large tv to catch the game. This is my go to bar for a doggy play date because the back area is fenced. Tonight my wife ordered a bloody mary which was made to her preference with zing zang. She said it was perfect. I got a bottle of the torch pilsner because I wanted to try a different NC beer. The bartender was also very polite when I accidentally forgot to give a card to start a tab. If you haven't come here for a beer or a cocktail yet give it a try! You will be back just like all the other regulars and everyone will know your name ;)

The atmosphere is perfect for a small bar, one of my favorite spots. Shoutout to bartender Brit!

Totally clicked most of the patrons local who seem to think the bar is an extension of their living rooms!!! Not very welcoming

No effort to be safe in the bar. At a minimum there is no reason for bartenders and servers to not wear masks. Not a mask in sight.

Slowly but surely solidified itself as a Navy sports bar for Wilmington. Come watch the football games, it's a blast here.

Great chill spot with music and great drink specials. If I lived a bit closer, this would be my go-to bar. The people make you feel at home.

Finally! After many years, we made it back to Copper Penny! On our return trip from Southport we…read morestopped in downtown to grab a bite before heading home. We started walking around and my wonderful wife suggested Copper Penny. Absolutely! There was a short wait for a table, but we didn't mind. The inside is almost like we remember it. We did notice the menu is a lot smaller. The last time we dined here was around ten years ago. Definitely plenty of options. We went with the onion ring appetizer, Cobb salad, and the BBQ Burger. The atmosphere of Copper Penny is the same. Definitely missed this place. After a short wait our food was brought out. Everything was delicious. This is just an update, but we still love Copper Penny and will continue to return.

Inside we a long and narrow, mostly large wooden booths and a large bar. Darker. Started with sodas, a beer, and the dragonfruit mimosa (I didn't wind up drinking/liking the flavor- but also didnt say anything as honestly know my taste better. Sharing feedback for others that it is on the sweeter side- which you may love). Buffalo chicken sandwich, sauce on side with fries. Enjoyed, typical but large sandwich. Chicken pita, enjoyed- fries on side. Philly cheesesteak with Caesar salad side- really liked. Owner is from Philly, which made a difference. Grilled chicken with side Cobb salad- lots of cheese and mushrooms and onions. Super delicious bread- soft with some flake since still crunch and not soggy. Salad was fresh and delicious. Pork sandwich- my husband liked, it was good but I didn't love the meat flavor. Concepts with having spinach and such was great. Manager/owner(?) came by to each table too. Definitely worth a trip to explore- fresh ingredients. Next time the wings...
