I have been here a few times and have waited to post my review based on what my next experience could be. I like it here a lot, the atmosphere is fun and relaxing. The music is great, especially with the music box available to choose what you want to hear also (have to pay for that). There is a pool table which is nice and gives it more of that bar feel. Service is okay, always a little stand offish but you get what you need. This is another place that looks small on the outside, but when you walk in there is actually a lot more room and there is an outside also. It's not a huge back patio but it's there when you need some fresh air. I absolutely hate their restrooms. This is one place out of all the bars/restaurants in Wilmington that I would rather avoid. As you can see from my photos there are a ton of holes in the wall, a space between the door and bar area, and just overall uncomfortable. I do not like going somewhere I feel like someone is watching me. There are holes at every level that make me feel like I'm being surrounded by eyes and I get the creeps, especially when I can see the light shining in from the bar. Besides that, it's a good place to start drinking on a Friday/Saturday night. read more

Decided to check this place out while we waited for the Little Dipper up the street to open. We were fully prepared to spend money but it was is we were invisible. There was only 3 people plus the bartender in there so it wasn't like he was to busy to acknowledge us. After waiting 5 minutes to be asked if we wanted anything, that we needed to come to the bar to order or even a hello we left. Maybe I'm not a very discerning dive bar consumer. When the lighting is dim, drinks are cheap, service is friendly, and patrons are gruff, I'm at home. When a cab driver tells me that she "cannot even" or that she fears knife throwing hijinx at a dive, my interest is piqued. Though Barbary Coast's knife throwing days are over, the lighting is still low, drinks are hella cheap, and both bartenders and patrons are friendly. I downloaded the Yelp App just to mention how awful this place is. We stopped in to drink a beer, play some pool, and listen to some good music. We spent $20 on the juke box just to come and find out they don't allow the best song in the world, which is Africa by Toto, obviously. They didn't even give us a refund for it. On top of that, the pool table was broken and shuffle board is slanted too badly to even play. There is no dart board, as advertised. We put another $10 or so and bumped Cardi B to the top of the list before leaving. Oh yea, Cardi B is allowed but not Toto . This place was for the birds! read more

Stopped in for a quick beer with wife last month. First off, you don't usually find a bar this nice and seedy in this kind of area. Wood floor, dark, couple of folks playing pool. First suprise, behind the bar is the beer collection. They have over 100 different brands of bottled. A bunch of good drafts too. And cheap cheap cheap!!! Out back door, tiny little patio overlooking Cape Fear river. Girl on cell phone next to me selling, uhhh... "something" to a friend of hers. Didn't seem to be concerned at all that I was obviously not a regular. This was middle of day, can't vouch for late at night. Some "sketchy" graffiti in toilet, so who knows? But during day, had the nice atmosphere of a few friendly folks, some looking ruff, some dressed up, just loving "a good beer buzz early in the morning..." very nice, if you are from the steel belt, or certain parts of Boston, you will like the look and feel. read more

Last time I was in Wilmington I visited this bar for the first time. I don't know why the hell I didn't the last time. I ended up spending most of my night here. It has everything. A great beer selection, pool tables, jukebox, and a diverse crowd. This place definitely isn't for everyone...and then again, it totally is. There were so many different walks of life that anyone could feel comfortable here. The place just reeks of comfortability. The bartenders kicked ass and the crowd was cool.
