We recently heard about Heritage BBQ in Monkey Junction from one of my husband's coworkers, who insisted it was so good that we needed to go ASAP. I'm happy to report they were absolutely right! We stopped by on a Saturday evening for dinner, and from the moment we walked in, we were impressed. The restaurant was spotless, everything smelled incredible, and every employee we interacted with was genuinely kind, welcoming, and happy to answer our questions. We both ordered the two-meat, two-side plates. I had the brisket and pork belly with fried okra and mac & cheese, while my husband chose the brisket, pulled pork, cornbread, and mac & cheese. The standout of the night was definitely the pulled pork--it was hands down some of the best we've ever had. The pork belly was absolutely phenomenal, and the brisket was tender and flavorful. The cornbread was delicious, and I really enjoyed the mac & cheese (my husband wasn't quite as big a fan, but that's just personal preference). While we were there, we asked about the beef ribs because they sounded incredible. We learned they're a Friday and Saturday special, but they usually sell out around lunchtime--which tells you just how popular they are! Needless to say, we're already planning another trip, this time for lunch, so we can finally try them. Heritage BBQ has definitely earned a spot on our list of favorite barbecue restaurants. Good service, the host was helpful in our selections and patient while we decided. Food was mixed, I almost gave them a 3 star. Everything was spicier than expected. Even the collard greens were very hot (the menu said mild unless i misread it) . We started with a small brisket nachos. The green chile sauce was great. I ordered the two-meat platter with ribs and brisket. The brisket was moist but lacked flavor, covering it in bbq sauce made it great. The rib meat was hard and dried out but tasted good with a nice smoke on it. We split the banana pie which was also good. read more

The food was outstanding--some of the best barbecue I've had. The meats were perfectly smoked, tender, and packed with rich, authentic flavor. It is a new BBQ restaurant in the old BBQ building. It's line service where you order at register. On the menu I picked the 2 meat platter, brisket and ribs. They didn't have ribs so I had double brisket with coleslaw and Mac and Cheese and a side of cornbread. Ok so here goes my take, I hated everything. The brisket was just total fat. I had a hard time finding any meat to eat. The coleslaw had a weird taste to it like it came out of a box from a food supply company. The Mac and cheese was bland. As for the cornbread, it tasted nothing like cornbread, it tasted more like cake. My husband said it tasted like Pineapple upside down cake. I know good BBQ from living in Kentucky and expected better. Maybe they need to work in their products as they are new. I wish them all the best, and I am sure many people love or will love their food, I am just not one of them. Yesterday afternoon, I picked up a pound of brisket (1/2 moist, 1/2 lean) and brought it home for dinner. Everyone loved it! This former Texan is loving Heritage's brisket. Worth the 30-minute drive. Hopefully one day you will expand and open a location up north (e.g., Ogden / Porter's Neck area). read more

At the beach for a week for vacation and the family decided they wanted BBQ. We had a handful of places to choose from but were very glad we chose Heritage. I had the chopped bbq sandwich with cornbread. The cornbread is very sweet as others have commented but I enjoyed it. The brisket was delicious. The portions for the platters was very generous. Not sure if that's standard or we got lucky since we entered around closing time. We were disappointed they ran out of chips but again, our fault for showing up so late. The young lady checking us out seemed to behaving a bad day as she was short and curt but the cook walked around to speak with folks to ensure everything was good. Just leaving there now came over here to try it out. Amazing food amazing taste smells amazing. I had a barbecue sandwich with slaw and oddly enough The potato chips were were so good. They're cooking them in beef tallow it was really really a different taste altogether nice people nice staff quick service hot food. I can't see anything more five stars for sure. read more

I stopped by Heritage BBQ for dinner on a Friday evening with a party of 7 people. We ordered several sampler plates (available on Fridays and Saturdays), Brunswick Stew, along with several sides. The brisket and ribs were standout but I really liked the house-made sausage, pulled pork and burnt ends too. Frankly all the meats were delicious. I imagine the sauces were good but I can't comment on them as I didn't use any!! The meat was to my liking right off the plate. Brunswick stew: get one. As for the sides, the cornbread was moist and sweet and I loved the "Texas Twinkies" (cheese stuffed bacon wrapped jalapenos) -YUM! Everyone in our party seemed able to satiate thier BBQ desires! I went back for lunch yesterday and tried the house-made hotdog in chili-cheese fashion along with some buffalo wings. Loved the dog and the wings were plump and juicy. I made a mess but the napkins were plentiful! A great new addition to my foodie must-haves when I visit Carolina Beach. read more

Wilmington now has a real BBQ joint! Heritage is easily the BEST BBQ in town. It is absolutely delicious. Me and my wife split a 2 meat plate and added a sausage. I ordered the bbq nachos and my boyfriend got the brisket sandwich. 10/10 taste, 10/10 service. We ordered 3 of their texas twinkies... amazing! I would have ordered 4 more of them. Only reason 4/5 stars is because the nachos were cold, but ffs theyre nachos. Would have got banana pudding, but I was stuffed. I bet it slaps though. Great atmosphere and great food. Had the brisket sandwich which had been recommended. It was full of flavor and very tender. I had Cole slaw as the side and it was very tasty.
