Every time I eat here I remember how much I love it. When we visited recently there was a wait, so I asked if we could order drinks at the bar to take outside. The hostess (who I think may be the owner or manager) was super friendly and offered to put the order in for us and bring it out. It sounds like a small gesture, but they were busy so the level of service really impressed me. I still can't get away from the black bean burrito. It's delicious and affordable! Yum! read more

Came here for brunch/lunch. Nice spot, we sat by the window, quick service. We learned that they do serve brunch and the menu is on a written crinkled piece of paper. I ordered the chicken bowl, it was tasty but I thought the potatoes were a bit greasy. I might've eaten it dabbed with a little bit of ketchup but they didn't have it in the house. I would have to suggest maybe put the menu on a nicer paper printed for better presentation and possibly having ketchup as well. Stopped by on a downtown walk for some Mexican food and a beer. No chips and queso on the menu is a bummer and paying for chips and salsa was a double bummer. The tacos on menu are single tacos, a hungry guy like me would need to order three. We got the grilled chicken and miami Vice, both of which were good but not great. They come with real cheese. That's a nice step up from cheese sauce. They come with a meat, which is great for a $12.00 entree. Where the love ends is where the eating begins. The food is waaaaaayyyyy too salty. I don't mean just a little bit. I mean in a manner that one cannot ignore. I was only able to eat half of the portion. I mentioned it to my server but did not ask for an accommodation. My hope is that he'll tell the cook. Perhaps the owner will see this and address it. Came here for a later Tuesday lunch for two, no reservation and had no issues getting sat right away. Very cool atmosphere, embraces a bit of an industrial style with some great music but the food feels hardly industrial. Also had options to sit outside or inside, as long as the weather was nice. We started off splitting an order of elote and a complimentary plate of chips and salsa. Both very tasty and not overly heavy like some other elote I've had. We decided to go for the taco Tuesday theme and went for the Miami vice (basically a spicy Cuban sandwich), the loaded potato, BBQ pork, and tequila chicken tacos. All were delicious, but my personal favorite was the Miami vice, but I am a sucker for a Cuban sandwich. The loaded potato has a lot of potential, but I think could be a little more substantial filling wise. But on the topic of portions, these tacos are bigger than your usual which was a pleasant surprise! Would be happy to come back and try more of their tacos and other various tex-mex fusion delights. The restaurant is very cute and quaint, they also offer outdoor seating. They give complimentary chips and salsa and we also added guacamole. This place was a perfect stop for lunch. The only downside is that there's not *tons* of seating, so there can be a wait. We started with chips and salsa, and they had some of the best chips I've ever had- perfectly salty, crunchy, and not too thin or too thick. I also ordered two tacos- the catfish po boy and the loaded potato. The catfish po boy is a great take on a fish taco and I thought the garlic mayo was the perfect addition to keep it from being too dry. However, the loaded potato taco was the star of the show. The cheesy griddled potatoes were in a layer in the taco and such a unique way to do it. I've had tons of patatas bravas taco iterations, and this was by far the best in terms of texture and taste. Pairing it with the mayo and scallions gave such a great sense of texture that I wish I had ordered even more. The only other negative is that the service was a little slow, but I also could've been biased because I was SO hungry that anything would've felt slow. We had never been to Beer Barrio but we had friends that kept recommending so we finally gave it a go! Beer Barrio is located right in the heart of downtown and offers indoor, outdoor, and bar top seating. We loved the atmosphere & since it was a bit busy we decided to sit at the bar. Our server was very attentive and friendly! My husband was able to select a beer from their tap list, but they offered several margarita options as well as other mixed drinks. I myself am participating in dry January so I unfortunately didn't get to try a margarita. However, that just means we will have to be back next month! We started with chips & guac which also comes accompanied with some salsa as well- both generous portions and both delicious. We then ordered our entrees- I had a potato taco, tequila grilled chicken taco, and cheeseburger taco. Out of all of them I HIGHLY suggest the potato taco- it was so good my husband had to order his own after tasting mine. All the tacos were good, that just was my favorite of all three. My husband had the chicken quesadilla which he also loved, but we both agree the potato taco was our absolute favorite taste of the day! We found ourselves at Beer Barrio twice during our long weekend in Wilmington. The first was a Thursday evening and it was pretty much dead downtown. We were still welcomed in with big smiles and friendly service. Our food was good and everyone left happy and full. Hate to say I'm disappointed by lunch here. They just seem to miss the mark and fit the downtown "average" food scene. Small dining room that doesn't have a cohesive theme; it doesn't really make much sense. The dining room is tight and the outdoor seating is right on a busy corner without much shade. Service was fine, but the food was lacking. We started with the chips and guacamole, which was the best part of the meal. It's salty and citrusy, without any odd flavors. Chips were warm, too. For entree, I had the seasonal salad with house ranch and grilled mani, and boyfriend got a chicken quesadilla. Both were just alright: ranch lacked any flavor so the salad tasted very plain. If you're looking for a good taco or quesadilla then this is your place to go. It's small on the inside but has outside seating too. They sort of cram the tables tightly together inside but we only didn't mind because nobody had been placed next to us until right as we were leaving. I highly recomend the quesadilla, it was hard to make a choice on what meat because they all sounded so good. I'm glad I went with beef, it was so flavorful and I loved that it came with the fixin's for dipping. I was in town with my sisters and we decided to stop by to check out beer barrio. We wanted to pick up some takeout and the menu seemed right up our alley. Because of the pandemic the dining room was closed. We ordered our food in front of the restaurant. We wore masks and so did all the wait staff. They had the meny taped on the wall or disposed of the paper menus. People were dining on the patio, but we decided to take our dinner home. We tried a variety of tacos - each $5. We got the Carolina Pulled Pork, Tequila Grilled Chicken, Al Pastor, Ahi Tuna, and Local Catfish Po'boy. YUM!!!! We loved the tacos so much we came back the next day. Unfortunately, whoever was running the kitchen that day did not do as spectacular a job on the tacos as the evening before. Even though our second visit wasn't as great as the first, we still really enjoyed the tacos - it was too bad there wasn't more consistency with how the tacos were made. Example, there are lots of tacos on the menu, including Carolina Pulled Pork, Catfish Po boy and cheese burger. I opted for the grilled ahi tuna taco. This was damn good. Lots of tuna in the flour taco. It was also stuffed with lettuce and a pineapple salsa. Very good and very messy to eat. I do recommend the chili cheese dip as an appetizer. This is an what Chili's Skillet Queso wants to be when it grows up. Came here per recommendation of friends who are former locals of the area who said these tacos were pretty decent and is baby friendly. Ordered the tequila grilled chicken taco and al pastor taco. I was shocked that these costed $5 each, however they were pretty big and filling. I could eat one, maybe two if I was super hungry, for my meal. The tequila chicken taco was delicious -- I would recommend this one! The al pastor taco wasn't anything special and for $5 a taco I have expectations past nothing special. My bf had the chicken tequila taco and the chorizo taco -- he also agreed that the chicken taco was delicious but the chorizo nothing special either. They have inside and outside seating. We sat outside and the service was poor -- hopefully it's better inside. We had three people serve us throughout our sitting. We were dry on our waters for a while needed napkins since they didn't bring I Us any when they delivered the food but we had to ask twice. We also asked for a to go container twice. They have beer on tap which made the experience better. If this is convenient for you I'd recommend just going for the tequila chicken taco and sitting inside (hopefully the service is better in there) but other than that, not worth it. read more
