This used to be one of our go-to places, but they dipped quite a bit for quite a while, so we gave up. After looking at recent reviews, we decided to give them another chance. I love that their menu is simple (not boring), diverse, and affordable. The employees are friendly and seem to be content working there. The food was better than the last time we ate there, but not as great as it once was. I had shrimp tacos with a side of mango salad. The tacos were good and definitely worth the price; the mango salad would have been great if the mango had been ripe. We ordered a kid's burger for our granddaughter, and it wasn't that good. The side fruit salad, which she wanted, was all cantaloupe. Kids love grapes - throw some in there! My husband ordered panini and he said it was great. We do love the vibe of the place. Chill and not too loud.

We stopped by Blue Surf on a rainy Friday for lunch. The menu is up on blackboards over the checkout counter. You order at the counter, and they bring your food to your table. All of the servers were really nice and helpful with our dietary restrictions. They have gluten free bread and are knowledgeable about eliminating dairy. We had the turkey Brie sandwich (no Brie) on gluten free bread with the marinated chickpeas (no feta) as a side and the mahi mahi sandwich with salt and pepper chips on the side. Everything was delicious. Our coffee and peanut butter hot chocolate (almond milk) were incredible. The vibe is beachy casual with wooden benches and metal chairs at tables. There are also some high top tables and a few smaller tables for two. The bathrooms are gendered with a couple of stalls. The layout is fairly accessible for mobility devices.

Absolutely delicious! I beat the rush and got here early Saturday morning and I was very impressed! The staff was so kind and the food came out very fast. I had the ham, egg, and provolone on a plain bagel and it was amazing. The atmosphere was so homey and welcoming and I really enjoyed eating here. It was very close to the hotel I was staying at which was super convenient. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area.

Wonderfully made sandwiches with fresh tasting ingredients. The turkey brie, in addition to the titled ingredients included apple butter & argula on toasted multigrain bread and was fantastic. My wife had the turkey cubano and really enjoyed it. Nice ambiance and friendly staff made for a lovely meal.

So you're dropping off a wallet-draining tuition investment at UNCW on a weekend when every hotel room and Ayer Bee an' Bee is booked solid six months in advance. You want breakfast, but the Boysenberry Brunch Cafe has 253 people in the queue. You get Donkin' every week so what's a group to do? Blue Surf could be the answer. Tucked in a nondescript strip center behind an auto dealer is where you'll find a fast serving, friendly staffed, quick service restaurant with inside-and-outside seating. You might run into a retiree's group on a Saturday but don't worry - ordering is counter service and the kitchen is fast. Staff run your orders to your table so your only task is to doctor your fresh coffee or nurse your selection from the bar. We end up returning here over and over as the fare is fresh and generous. Breakfast bowls and plates are Southern or Southwest inspired. Biscuits are large and bacon thick-sliced and properly crisp. There are lunch sandwiches from noon-on and this location also does dinner service until 9pm. Buttermilk Maple Bacon waffles came covered in chunks of caramelized goodness and were stout enough to support good doses of syrup. Eggs are cooked to order and delicious. The only area of improvement are their grits which tend to be a bit dark, overdry and peppery. If you mix an over easy fried egg in with them, they are much better. Dress is casual (no Salt Life or Vinyard Vines required). This is a great alternative to expensive and crowded brunch places, but don't tell anyone l told you - we don't want them toooo busy ;) Your wallet will thank you later.

Service was quick and friendly! Healthy options on the menu, in addition to classic favorites with a twist. Outdoor seating available. The inside has kind of a warehouse feel to it, so it echos a bit. Food was fresh and tasty. Definitely recommend the chickpeas... lemony vinaigrette with feta and cilantro. Cuba o was toasty nicely and the pork is flavorful. The Havana Bowl is DEE-LICIOUS. The grits are creamy and the was banging, per my husband

    Meatloaf sandwich

The food was delicious! We also appreciate the service and kind staff. We had been turned off by the other location(now closed) but I got my husband to agree to try this again and we were very pleased! My favorite is the meatloaf sandwich and my husband loved the cornbread and sweet potatoes.

Came here during a weekend trip in January. I had the stuffed french toast. It was very sweet. Kids had waffles, which were huge so if you have little ones they can split it. The decor is cool. We sat outside. Enjoyed the beautiful weather. You order upon entering and then you pick where you want to sit. They give you a table number. Service was nice.

    Cubano Sandwich with Mango Salad

Good vibes. Happy workers. Great food. I got the Cubano sandwich with the mango salad, absolutely delicious especially after having college cafeteria food for a week.

Waffles looked great but they were so saturated in syrup and yogurt it was a soggy mess I couldn't eat. I am sure the waffles themselves were tasty and had I known they put everything on , I would have asked for it in the side. I ended up not eating them. I ordered a side of bacon which was crispy but ice cold. I will not return for breakfast. The place is cute and decorated nice. You order at counter and they bring you your food. So services was decent, it was delivered quickly.

A nifty find and fresh food at a reasonable price!

It's sort of Italian and sort of steak and sort of a little bit of everything. Really clean, strait forward , reasonable menu, nice ambience. It feels kind of high end but the pricing is definitely mid range. I selected the tomato basil soup as my appetizer. It came with a nice toasted crustini. It was a really good soup. It tasted fresh. It had a lot of body to it like, maybe they did the tomatoes here in the house from fresh. It was definitely tomato. The basil was kind in the background, but it was a true red sauce. It was almost tomato paste or tomato sauce flavor. I would've not complained if they given it to me over a bit of penne.. It had a really nice flavor on it not too sweet not too acidic really a very good soup. It came out in a footed coffee cup so you're getting about one cup of soup. The main course was the broiled seafood platter. It was anchored by a large piece of mahi-mahi, that was amazingly well prepared, firm and tasty. To the side of that was a wonderful crabcake, one of the best I've had anywhere and definitely the best in the Carolinas. It did not have too much breading and it had a wonderful texture with lots of good crab flavor. Drizzled across all of this were scallops and shrimp. The shrimp were a little overcooked if you asked me. The scallops were sweet and perfect and everything you would want them to be. The side that comes with this is their crab fries which essentially our beer battered french fries dusted with old bay seasoning. If you've ever had the crab fries at the Philadelphia, ballpark, this is the way they do it. For dessert, I ordered the lemon cello mascarpone cake. It comes drizzled with raspberry sauce. I had visions of lemon curd, and what I got was really good and really lemonade and good cake. But it's not a very big slice. I know about the weight staff. I don't know if they're all good, but mine was exceptional and lovely to talk with. The place was very busy. It had a nice vibe to it, it could've been in South Beach or Miami or Los Angeles, not that it was over over the top just that it was very clean and nice and well done. This is a professional restaurant not some amateur attempt. I recommend it.

It seemed to me like a place that was trying too hard to be a white table cloth kind of restaurant, very much with a pinky out. I personally do not see myself eating here again due to the perceived false upscale. The menu was very scarce with only a handful of dishes available, each that again looked like they were trying too hard. The weirdest thing for me was the lower sanitation rating of 91 compared to other similar "classy" locations. What I think saved the experience for me was the staff. The hostess and waitress were both extremely polite, with whom I believe was the manager making the rounds as well. My waitress was on top of her game throughout the meal, and never let my glass go empty. If the staff were nothing to write about, this review would probably be a one star.

Today was not my first time eating here, and if I'm be truthful , every time I'm in town, I make it a point to stop by. They serve the kind of traditional Mexican breakfast I grew up loving, along with so many other delicious options. The staff is always warm and welcoming, serving every guest with the biggest smiles. You'll also often see the owner walking around as well, checking on tables and making sure everything is going smoothly, which adds such a personal touch. The restaurant itself is clean, beautifully decorated with cultural charm, and filled with the incredible aroma of fresh spices cooking in the kitchen. I always begin with their Café de Olla--a slow-simmered coffee made with raw brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange peel, and coffee. It's served hot, full of flavor, and not overly sweet. Honestly, it's the only coffee I'll happily drink without creamer or added sugar. This visit, I ordered the Tamal Montado: two tamales over a bed of creamy black bean sauce, covered with red salsa, then topped with a sunny side egg, avocado, Mexican sour cream, queso fresco, and cilantro. Every bite was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. I finished the meal with a pan dulce, which paired perfectly with the whole experience. I skipped tortillas this time, but they also have a tortilla station where they're made fresh by hand and cooked to order--always a sign you're in the right place!! They're open daily from 7 AM to 3 PM, and if you find yourself in Wilmington, this spot should absolutely be on your list

While that was disappointing, I understand that delays happen. The bigger issue was the fly infestation toward the back of the restaurant. The flies were practically covering the mirror behind our table (as shown in my photos). While we were waiting for our food, they mostly stayed on the mirror and seats, but as soon as the food arrived, they were constantly landing on it. I spent the entire meal swatting flies away from our plates, which made it very difficult to enjoy our food. As for the food itself, the blueberry hush puppies were amazing! Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was disappointing. I ordered the Biscuit Shack, and it was served on tough bread with a slice of cheese that was still cold, as if it had just been taken out of the refrigerator and placed on top. Two other dishes at our table also had eggshells hidden in the food. Overall, between the flies and the food quality issues, we likely won't be returning.
