Middle Sound Grill, which has been open for six weeks, is tucked away on a wooded lot behind a couple of industrial businesses facing Market Street. There's also an ice cream place and a bar, both independently owned, in the same grove of trees. All of the seating is on an outdoor patio, with lots of fans to help with the Summer heat. I thought the location was fantastic and somewhat unique.
Unfortunately the food was a huge disappointment. I tried the pork tacos, substituting a side of sautéed zucchini, onions, and peppers for fries. The tacos, served on an over-heated flour tortilla, consisted of maybe an ounce of pulled-pork with a sweet BBQ sauce over twice as much Asian slaw. The spicy slaw totally overwhelmed the pork to where all I really tasted was slaw, with an occasional hint of sweetness from the sauce. The tacos were an unmitigated disaster and a very poor value at $15.
The sautéed veggies had great potential but were marred by being so over salted that the side had a gritty texture. On a positive note, they were hot and with a bit of char, but overall the veggies were inedible.
Our server was attentive, helpful, and definitely added to the experience. However, good service and a great location can't compensate for the atrocious food. Overall this is a borderline 1-star review, however Middle Sound Grill has potential so I hope the management will focus on the kitchen's shortcomings so the restaurant will thrive. read more
