I had biscuits (2) and gravy. Biscuits were light and fluffy and BIG. Gravy was good also but I had to add some pepper (always). Just enough without making me feel stuffed. Partner had corned beef hash with an easy-over egg. Hash was made with real (not canned) corned beef and was nice and chunky. Might have had a little too many potatoes. Easy-over egg was perfectly done. Atmosphere is traditional old-school diner. Lots of hustle and bustle but not overly loud. Was a little warm for our liking. We would go back again. read more

Loved our time at the Dixie Grill, very diner like vibes and went a couple times during our stay in Wilmington. It's the oldest restaurant in Wilmington and has been around for good reason. Thankful for Yelp because I got the off the menu Dixie Bowl. Was a heaping bowl full of a biscuit with potatoes, bacon and smothered in a savory sausage gravy, highly recommend, so good! My wife got a sausage egg and cheese biscuit with home fries. Servers were attentive and friendly, plenty of seating inside and they have a nice wrap around bar. Fantastic place. read more

This place is so good, came for breakfast, my son had the buttermilk pancakes they were huge and fluffy, me and my daughter had grits and home fries, so good. Our waitress Madison is so sweet. The music isn't to my taste in the morning but it's someone's taste lol, the decor is black walls, red seats, it is big inside, enough space to move around and they also have a bar. As a tourist in Wilmington, their breakfast game seemed fairly weak. The notable exception was the Dixie Grill. We stumbled across this spot after our first two places didn't pan out. And what a pleasant surprise it was. It was busy but we were able to get in with a minimal wait. The service was fast and prompt. The food was delicious. And it was overall a great experience. I'm not sure when I'll end up in Wilmington next, but The Dixie Grill will be on the list. I suggest checking it out. read more

This cute place is delightful! We got there just after 10 on a Sunday and only had about a 30 minute wait. I ordered the Dixie bowl and the server was delighted I had found their secret menu! The Dixie bowl is bacon, a biscuit, potatoes and eggs topped with sausage gravy. The only complaint was that I finished it all and wanted more! The Dixie Grill has been on my list to stop at in Downtown Wilmington for a while now. The restaurant has been around since 1904. The decor here is a diner theme. I was there on a Monday a little after 11am and the place was very busy. There are booth and bar seating. I chose a booth as it was seat yourself but would have been ok at the bar seating if that was my only option. Service was very friendly and my drink order was taken immediately when the menu was brought to my seat. I was given some time to decide what to order. As much as I wanted to try the benedict here, I went with chicken fingers as I wasn't feeling breakfast that day and I had just had a burger the day before. They were really good and I was given a very large portion of honey mustard. I could have gotten barbecue or ranch too. The fries were a large portion too. I hope the Dixie Grill is open the next time I am in town. read more

Stopped here for Sunday brunch. There was a 40 minute wait so we walked around downtown for awhile. Two seats came open at the bar so we chose to sit there -- probably 25-30 minute wait total. Service at the bar was excellent. Waitress quickly took our drink orders. Pet peeve -- there were no prices on the menu for nonalcoholic drinks. Husband and I both decided on the Farmer's Omelet. I ordered home fries with mine and he the stoneground grits. Home fries were excellent -- cut small, crispy and well done. I liked that all the condiments -- ketchup, hot sauce, jelly-- were right there on the bar. Omelette was stuffed with veggies but did not have much flavor. My most favorite grill/diner in Wilmington! The prices are reasonable, you get a lot of food, atmosphere is great and service is always wonderful. Solid place to eat! Went on Saturday morning at around 10am, we had a bit of a wait (15mins) but nothing too awful. It was pretty busy inside and there wasn't much waiting area space. Note: there is only street parking - I walked from our unit so I'm not sure how much parking costs!! The food was surprisingly good, enjoyed the bacon which was crispy and not at all soggy. A great breakfast and lunch spot downtown that has been serving the classic since 1901 with the current owner being there over 20 years. They are currently undergoing some renovations as well. Like many of the well loved downtown restaurants there can be a line and wait. So many southern classics to choose from like shrimp and grits, biscuits and gravy, buttermilk pancakes, corned beef hash, fried chicken, and more. Dixie was an inexpensive option to get breakfast for the family. Bacon was thin, crispy, and smoky. The hash is delicious. The corn beef was amazing, only wished there was more throughout the hash. Next visit we decided to order the hash without the cheese. The cheese seems to take away from the greatness of the hash. The eggs were fresh. The grits were a little too wet for my liking. Ordered at this hole in the wall diner a farmers omelette and my partner ordered a fried green tomato BLT. The omelette was bland and not much salsa was put on the top. At least the omelette looked like it was cooked neatly. Home fries were seasoned well, but could've been more crispy. Biscuit had decent flavor but was overcooked and a little dense. They also serve iced coffee in mason jars but ironically I love the hot coffee here. You can pay your bill by Apple Pay, using a scan on the receipt vs waiting for the card etc. I'd never used that method before but it was super easy.
