This is a well kept secret in downtown Winston-Salem, located at 680 West Fourth Street at the corner of 4th and Spring Streets. The food here is unique and excellent. Not your typical, Olive Garden-style Italian fare. The menu is relatively small, with a good variety of salads, starters, and main courses. Quanto Basta is quickly becoming one of our favorites. I said a well kept secret because we have need seen it crowded. The atmosphere is about as good as it gets. There is authentic music playing lightly in the background. Noticeable but not intrusive. Just right for quiet conversation with your group or a friendly couple at the next table. Our server was Jason and he was excellent. He presented the evening's specials politely and answered out questions knowledgeably. We started with a cocktail. Carolyn had an Aperol Spritzer and I ordered the Jack Daniel's Italian Sour. One of the best sours I have ever had. Jack and Amaretto with a fresh made sour mix. Not too sweet, and was bourbon forward. We ordered Fettuccine John Angelo - fresh made pasta with an Alfredo style sauce, and Pancetta. Served with wedges of homemade rosemary focaccia baked fresh daily. We asked that it be split so we could both have some. We also ordered the Veal Scaloppine Alla Saltimbocca. A tender slice of veal with sage, prosciutto and melted mozzarella with white wine butter sauce. The kitchen wouldn't split that dish, but Jason brought us an extra plate and a sharp knife. Both dishes were delicious. Both were an ample serving that made it easy to share. It was just the right amount. The white wine butter sauce was spectacular (and the bread was perfect for sopping it up). Note: sopping is a southern thing, and perfectly permissible here. Seldom do we order dessert, but tonight we couldn't resist the Affogato Brownie, an Espresso - soaked, double dark chocolate brownie topped with vanilla gelato and amarena cherries. It was so good. They have an extensive wine list and some craft beers as well. Here's the best part - the prices were quite reasonable. Two cocktails ($13 each), two entrees, and dessert for $100 including a 20% tip! As I said, Quanto Basta is quickly becoming a favorite. We will be back and hope we will see you there! read more

Fourteen of us dined at Quanto Basta before going to the theatre (18 July 2025). We were seated at the high tops across from the bar. Our reservations were at 4:30pm. There were two servers taking care of us, splitting the long table in half with a waiter on each side. I ordered the caprese salad and Orecchiette with sausage. My husband ordered the linguini with clams. The caprese salad had fresh burrata, which was creamy but the interior was not as soft and creamy as I've had before in other restaurants (especially in Italy!). But it was good. I liked the heirloom tomatoes and pesto/balsamic glaze. The pasta dish was quite flavorful with the pesto, but way too much grated parmesan on top. I could taste the fennel in the sausage, which I like. My husband, at first, wasn't sure about the white cream sauce in the dish, but the waiter assured him it was just a touch and not really noticeable. My husband really liked it. The dish came with several whole clams and diced clams. I got to have a taste of the fried calamari. It was excellent! Tender calamari and lightly coated, along with a yummy red sauce. There was one person that didn't like her seafood pasta saying there wasn't enough sauce and that the pasta was dry. While service was very good, it stopped when we got our bills (separate checks for each couple). All seven couples were charged 1/7th portion of two glasses of wine that belonged to just one couple). Why would the waitress charge 1/7th to each couple? The waiter that took care of my side of the table didn't want to take the time to correct the charges and re-print the bills. Meanwhile the waitress disappeared. We were told to figure it out among ourselves afterwards. While I won't ask the one couple to reimburse us what we were charged, an establishment such as Quanto Basta should have re-printed the bills with the correct totals. I am revising my star rating to 4, "Good". Please take the time to ring up the bills correctly. Yes, we will be back. I like the bar scene and atmosphere. read more

I've been a QB fan since they opened amidst COVID. Love the space, vibe and bar atmosphere. Great starters, calamari and the stuffed peppers. Perfect seasoning and plated brilliantly. My entree missed the mark though, eggplant Parm. Served over cold penne with sauce that had way too much oregano. Overwhelmed the entire dish. I believe they could elevate that Italian staple to something incredible and unique. Great chefs own the dish. Our parties other entrees also fell a bit flat. Flavors were muddy and nothing stood out as unique or impressive. Dessert was a winner. The Olive oil cake was a hit. Really a stand out. We also love the Butterscotch Budino. I get that again. Mallory our server was very good, the food was decent. They are like most places in town and very short handed and on this evening apparently they were short kitchen staff and did not have any specials and food came out in a timely manner, I ordered a Pasta Dish and it stated with Mushrooms or some other additive so when Mallory offered it, I said throw in the mushrooms, as it seemed it was a selection only to find out the 2 options are an "UP CHARGE" so be cautious. Really enjoyed this meal! We found free street parking about 10 minutes away and walked. Came on a Friday evening around 6 pm and we did not have to wait. The inside has nice decor and a decent amount of seating. I ordered the orecchiette with meatballs. The food came out so quickly. Our server was very kind and attentive. The portion was a really good size and it came with a side of focaccia. Very yummy! Wish they had fresh grated Parmesan cheese. The sauce was great. I was very full after. I had a great experience here as far as food and drink goes, atmosphere was beautiful. But the service was the issue for us. Our server came to ask us how our meal was at least 9-10 times. He came over and took my wife's plate without asking if she was done or not. He dropped the check off without asking if we wanted to see the dessert menu. Had the pleasure of celebrating my anniversary here. Hubby got the short ribs, which he said were "one of the best things" he's ever eaten. As a lover of Italian food, I make it a habit to try a restaurant's spaghetti as I feel that's a baseline of good eats. Ambiance and interiors would get 5 stars. A stunning and well designed space. I had to dock them a star due to good but not great flavoring of a few dishes we tried. My friend and I arrived early to rest at the bar after a long day of historic house tours. We each had a wonderful Negroni, while pricey at $15 each (but I guess that's what things cost now and set to get worse), the flavor and strength did the trick. We also ordered the baked crab dip. It came with 6 rather plebeian and unexciting skinny toasts. Grilled sourdough with a little olive oil would have been so much better. Worse was the dip which didn't taste very good at all: fishy and lacking cheese and much flavor. I would not order this again and caution others the same and at $16 too much for this. Our husbands arrive and we sat down at a round table in the dining room across the courtyard from the main entrance room. A lovely room as well. I had the orriciete pasta which was mixed with some vegetables and a nice sauce and I added sausage which surprisingly was made of ground sausage which really didn't have much flavoring. All in all my dish was acceptable but really was under seasoned. My dining companions had a very interesting cacio et Pepe sauce with corn, protein and risotto. A very interesting dish which he, a foodie loved; another had shrimp scampi with risotto, also a standout and my husband had an artichoke and red pepper pizza, not the most interesting choice in my opinion but he liked it. We all shared a brownie with wonderful cherries, gelato and a sauce- excellent. I hope the chef reads this review and ups his game with regards to better sensitivity in his or her flavorings. I visited with my fiancé on vacation in the month of July. I did make a reservation because I heard that the restaurant can get pretty busy in the evening. When I arrived at 5 PM there were plenty of tables. It was a Friday night. The rush just probably hadn't come yet. There is not a lot of on street parking so we parked across the street in a parking lot which said that you could get the first 90 minutes free. We were seated right away when we arrived and our server was friendly and kind. The menu is not that big but we did fine items to order. My fiancé was shocked that there were not a lot of white sauce options but he found something that he liked. He had spinach Alfredo and added chicken as his protein and I ordered a Caesar salad and the risotto Arancini. My fiancé really enjoyed his pasta he said it had a great flavor he added a tad of salt. My Arancini were really good I enjoyed the little pool of red sauce at the bottom of the plate and my Caesar salad was pretty standard but it was good as well. Our bill came to $56 which was not that bad and we were close to the Riverwalk so it was a good area to be in. I would definitely visit again the next time I am in town. read more

This restaurant was all around great! We made an early reservation for 10ish people so highly recommend doing that, it got busy. The ambiance was amazing. We were on the main side of the restaurant, but it did look like there was a fancier side (I preferred the side we were on). I ordered Nonna's Baked Ziti (with a side of meatballs per the waitress' recommendation) and omg. SO good. I wish the menu had a bit more to choose from (I was craving lasagna but this was super close), but we ordered a lot of the appetizers (they went quick so I didn't have any pics), and they were all amazing. Food was was honestly the biggest disappointment. The focaccia bread wasn't actual focaccia. It lacked flavor, consistency and was too thick. My boyfriend who doesn't think most food needs added salt, had to ask for salt because the food lacked it plus flavor in general. The short rib was cooked perfectly, but the gnocchi was disgusting. The gnocchi was just overcooked, burnt, dry, no flavor and had barely any sauce with it. It was literally hard to chew. The carrots were cooked well, but lacked flavor. My boyfriend's Alfredo had no flavor other than the spinach and mushrooms. The Alfredo sauce seemed like it was nothing but heavy cream and unsalted butter; no flavor of parmesan. His pancetta also was not cooked enough, it was too soft. The ambience of the restaurant is great, but it was uncomfortably hot inside. The staffed looked sweaty and I, myself was sweating. No airflow in the restaurant made for a stagnant atmosphere. Overall, I may or may not give the place another shot. I wouldn't say you're missing out if you don't try it. read more

Bartenders professional. The baby green salad was insane. Perfect salt and acid. Great croutons and vinaigrette. Absolutely delicious. The hit of the show was the spaghetti with mama's Sunday sauce.
