We come to Figure 8 Island every year, so figured we'd venture into downtown Wilmington this time to try some delicious eats (and delicious eats we found). I'd heard of Olivero after reading the James Beard award winners in NC, and was even more intrigued once I found out one of the owners also owns St Roch in Raleigh, which I love. The decor was superb, with an open kitchen, tile walls around the open kitchen, and exposed brick walls everywhere else. We sat at the bar and had such great service - our server/bartender was very knowledgeable and passionate about the menu. We shared all our plates, starting out with the savory beignets. These were sublime - beignets fried to perfection, and the fontina fonduta with hot honey was the perfect flavor combination (i thought the mortadella didn't add too much to the dish). Moving onto the beet salad, they had a lovely rendition of one - my favorite additions were the dukkah pistachios which added the perfect crunch and spice notes, and the straciatella was the perfect creamy touch on top. Our favorite dish of the night was the garganelli pasta dish - the pasta had the perfect bite to it, rabbit cooked to perfection, and the sauce was buttery, acidic, herby goodness. Lastly, we tried the tilefish, which was also lovely - the fish was a little firmer than i expected but cooked well, and the tomato sauce with butter beans paired perfectly with it. I can tell why this place earned a James Beard Award - phenomenal food, service, and ambiance. We will definitely be back to try more. *Beignets: mortadella, fontina fonduta, calabrian hot honey *Roasted Beet salad: strawberries, stracciatella, dukkah pistachios, saba, mint *Garganelli pasta: grilled rabbit, spring vegetables (turnips), embered greens, manchego *Coal Roasted NC Tilefish: basque piperade, butter beans, saffron aioli, espelette

A girlfriend of mine was celebrating her birthday and decided that this was the perfect place to go try for the first time. When we arrived, parking was a bit challenging. The parking lot is somewhat small so most of us ended up parking on the street. The restaurant is intimate, and the service is exceptional! The staff that were working that evening were so kind and so attentive. Several of us brought flowers for the birthday girl so the front hostess stand found us a wine chiller that they filled with water so the flowers could sit on the table with us. The restaurant wrote a note to congratulate the birthday girl, and also brought over a small champagne toast for each of us so we could toast her before our meal started. Now on to the food! There were a number of appetizers that caught our attention. We decided as a table to share the croquetas which had four bites total which was perfect for a group of four. We decided to skip over the salads because all of the pastas sounded so good. One of our group is vegetarian, and both of the vegetarian options sounded amazing! Two of us ordered the bucatini which was a deliciously flavorful dish complete with chorizo and broccoli. I could have licked the plate clean it was so good. One girlfriend ordered the lasagna which was phenomenal. The star of the show in our opinion was the agnolotti which was basically ravioli with pureed butter beans and a Parmesan marscapone sauce with lemon. It was truly phenomenal. We gave the birthday girl the option to decide if we were going to order desserts to share, but she was too full. This was such a fantastic experience. We all cannot wait to return!

Best service and food I've ever experienced. Ambiance is nice too. 10000/10 for creativity, taste, service. Everything is above and beyond.

Came to Wilmington on business and met friends for an amazing culinary treat. Enjoyed the Desert Flower cocktail, delicious salad and pasta, and phenomenal dessert. This place is so unassuming. No flashy signs, but once you open the door, the staff is so inviting, the restaurant feels cozy, and you can see immediately why reservations are a must. Great service and one of the best meals I've had in some time. I highly recommend. Definitely get some of their homemade pasta. What a great experience.

Anna and I had reservations for the bar area overlooking the kitchen definitely worth doing again. We showed up a little early (my fault), so we grabbed a couple drinks and enjoyed them in the waiting area before our seats were ready. The bar is reservation-only, which is good to know going in not a negative at all, just something worth noting. Once seated, everything about the experience was spot on. Watching the kitchen work from just a few feet away added to the whole energy of the place. The ribeye was genuinely one of the best I've had in years -- perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, and served with that quiet confidence you only see in great kitchens. Service was sharp, the atmosphere hit just right, and the food... outstanding. One of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time even after a very recent trip through Italy. Can't wait to go back! Really.. Booking next dinner.

The ambiance is really nice, in smaller side. We sat at the bar and the service was excellent. The bar tender was very attentive. Husband had the tike fish which he said was excellent. I had the linguine in pesto which I ended up not liking at all. It was drowned in pesto and oily. Not what I expected and wish I had ordered the chicken. I am sure that is how the dish was supposed to be, just not for me. Had cheesecake for dessert and it was yummy.

Incredible start to finish. Make a reservation as early as possible because they book up fast for good reason. I went with a party of 6 and we all agreed this was the best meal we had in a long time. We ordered small plates and passed them around before our entrees. Every single thing had an incredible depth of flavor. Croquetas - NC crab, melted leeks, basil pesto. Crunchy on the outside and perfectly creamy on the inside. The pesto was so fresh and really balanced the dish. Beignets - mortadella, fontina fonduta, calabrian hot honey. LOVED these. An interesting savory twist on beignets. I wanted to eat them all. Charred broccoli - serano ham, cacio e pepe aoli, pecorino. Seriously the best broccoli I've ever had. The char on the broccoli was perfectly paired with the creamy cacio e pepe aoli. I wish I could make this at home. Roasted beets - strawberries, stracciatella, dukkah pistachios, saba, mint. I don't like beets but this dish was perfectly balanced with the sweetness from the strawberries. Good! NC Fish crudo - I couldn't eat this but the gazpacho was so light and fresh, everyone loved it. Linguini - grilled shrimp, pistachio pesto, aleppo pepper, lardo. This was my entree and I absolutely loved it. The texture of the homemade pasta really stood out and the shrimp are diced nicely. It was easy to eat. The crispy breadcrumb topping really took everything over the edge. I loved everything about this dish. Twice cooked pork shoulder - polenta, roasted red pepper sugo, aged provolone. The pork literally melts in your mouth and the wood fired char is just incredible. I also tasted the new potatoes that come with the ribeye, and spaghetti. I didn't love the spaghetti dish because of the mushy summer squash but that's a texture thing for me. The pasta was otherwise delicious. I'm telling everybody I know about this place. It is well worth a trip to Wilmington on its own.

    Desserts!

Great ambiance! Delicious!! I had the lasagna and my husband had the rigatoni. We had the cheesecake and the chocolate pudding for dessert - those desserts were an EXPERIENCE!!!! So incredible.

I cannot describe how incredible every bite of food was at Olivero. I knew it was a good sign when I snagged the last 7:30 dinner reservation. The reviews were constantly good, and a small menu yet another clue that i was in for a treat. Our serve was fabulous. She's been in the industry for over a decade and knows a good thing when she sees one. Friendly and professional, she guided our choices, but knew we couldn't go wrong. We started with a few spectacular cocktails, and the martini was pure perfection, down to the delectable olive! They even refreshed my glass to make sure it stayed chilled. The brussels and .cauliflower came out first. These were no ordinary vegetables. Both plates were bursting with flavors and textures from spreads, olives, cheese, pancetta, and other garnishes, Not a morsel was left. For the main show, two of us ordered the pork shoulder and one other the rigatoni. The pork shoulder over the polenta was dreamy. The pasta was homemade and the sauce had a lot of depth and flavor. I may have to come back to Wilmington just to eat here. It was that good. Keep up the good work!!!!

Best atmosphere and food & service wow! Love this spot so quaint Perfect for special occasions it's made to order super fresh and quick and fun!

What a fantastic evening at Dram Yard…read more We were a little concerned we might miss our 5:30 reservation after getting delayed by a seven-car accident on the bridge, but we arrived just a couple of minutes late and it wasn't an issue at all. From the moment we arrived, the experience was relaxed, welcoming, and exactly what we needed. We chose to sit in the beautiful courtyard, and with temperatures in the 70s, sunshine overhead, and a gentle breeze, it couldn't have been a more perfect setting. The outdoor gazebo bar creates a wonderful atmosphere for enjoying a cocktail before dinner, and if the weather isn't cooperating, the indoor dining space is equally inviting. A special thank you to Sarah, whose service was outstanding. She was cheerful, attentive, and genuinely seemed happy to be there. The restaurant wasn't crowded, which made for a peaceful and unhurried dining experience. For drinks, I ordered the Ghost Town, while my wife enjoyed the Venus Flytrap. Both were beautifully prepared and easy to see why they're among the restaurant's popular cocktails. The food was equally impressive. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara, and it was exceptional. The kitchen even accommodated my request for extra freshly cracked black pepper, which took an already excellent dish to another level. My wife ordered the Little Gem Salad with shrimp, and it was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We also shared the Tuna Tartare Tostada, which was outstanding--beautiful presentation, fresh tuna, and a great balance of textures and flavors. Adding to the experience was a bottle of Albariño that paired wonderfully with the meal. What stands out most about Dram Yard is its atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can settle in, slow down, enjoy a handcrafted cocktail, and forget about the stresses of the day. Whether you're looking for a date night, an evening with friends, or simply a quiet place to relax, Dram Yard delivers. Excellent service, creative cocktails, outstanding food, and one of the most relaxing outdoor dining spaces in Wilmington. We'll definitely be back.

This was the 3rd time we've been here. The first two times we did not make it to the table because…read moreof the service. They generally do not care about the customer at all. The star of the show is definitely the food. The chef is super proud of his food, and he should be. The only reason I'm giving this a 4 on food instead of a 5 is because there was no iced tea (in the summer in the carolinas - not really forgivable) the water was nasty and the biscuits on my Benedict were towards the burnt side on the bottom. Honestly, everything otherwise was amazing. What was really great: The restaurant itself is AMAZING! It's like being transported to a Parisian cafe. I love that when you walk in, you immediately see the fully in view kitchen. I'm assuming a chef owns the restaurant and designed the layout. The patio is quaint and delightful and surprisingly private for a downtown sidewalk restaurant. The eggs on my Eggs Benedict could not have been more perfect. I'm not a fried potato person; however, the pan fried potatoes here are mostly whole and they are out of this world. They were exceedingly crispy on the outside and completely soft on the inside. My son ordered the dutch baby. It was delicious. The accompanied fruit was perfect and truly ripe. I feel like they would have to toss a lot of fruit to get the ones that were truly that perfect. What did not work: The water - it was about 85 degrees out and humid. There is nothing here refreshing. Water is served European style meaning no ice and out of the tap. Warm tap water on a hot day in South Carolina is just nasty. It's ironic that while Europeans visiting the US for the World Cup are posting social media reels raving about ice in drinks in the United States, meanwhile The Dram Yard is insisting on pulling all of the worst parts of eating out in Europe into their restaurant. I truly dislike restaurants that serve canned and bottled beverages. It screams, "nickel and dime". If you bought your cans of soda at Costco and charged $4.00 for a can, I'd have to drink 9 cans before you're losing money. There is literally no reason to limit beverages other than driving higher profits. I hate price gouging. At the very least get a fountain and serve iced tea. SERVICE - the service staff simply makes you feel like they're doing you a favor by being open. Don't expect anything after that. When we arrived, the restaurant was at about 25% capacity with 2 food servers, who also double as the hostess. After waiting 10 minutes to be seated (yes...even at 25% capacity), service truly went downhill from there. It wasn't that the staff was rude. They were just not present and extremely slow. It honestly seemed like they were doing everything they could to not be seen. We needed salt, a refill of the water carafe and our check. That was it. The staff would come to our part of the dining room but then not even glance around or come by to see if we needed anything. I'm giving them a 2 because they were exceedingly slow and not present. When we did chase them down, I felt rude asking for help. The chef delivered our food. He was very proud and should be. However, here's the rub. The chef needs to learn that being in the restaurant business is not only about creating great food. It also requires front of house service and an overall dining experience that people are happy with. Right now, I'm walking away feeling: 1. great food and great atmosphere 2. terrible service 3. nickle and dimed me on drinks 4. doesn't have the sense to serve iced tea in the Caronlinas So - as much as I loved the food - there are too many restaurants in Wilmington that are good enough to overcome 2, 3 and 4 above. The Dram could be fixed so easily: 1. hire servers who want to be there and smile a little 2. put ice in your water 3. serve iced tea - at least in the summer months 4. get a soda fountain - it's 2026 Unfortunately, we won't be back because there are simply other options that, at the very least, hit 1, 2 and 3 with good food.
