Horrible experience at this bar. First of all, the drinks are absurdly priced. The staff was extremely rude. They had absolutely zero respect for their customers. The music sounded terrible. Even the pool tables were terrible. Not maintained in the slightest. You would think for a billiards bar they would at least maintain the pool tables but no. Not only were the drinks priced out the wazoo, I also received probably the most poorly poured beer I have ever drank. ALL FOAM. All I have to say is DO NOT GO HERE!!!! So, this is a really cool bar, or at least it should be. That being said, be aware that there seems to be an infestation here. An infestation of the rudest, most unprofessional collection of of D-Bag employees I have ever seen. From beta-boy doormen with clear oedipal issues, the ancient skanks behind the bar (if you can find one) and the rude and pot reeking bar backs, this place has a lot to offer. Most are old, overly aggressive and honestly all kind of smell like urine. But then the whole place smells like urine. Not recommended if you are LGBT+..... Witnessed the one employee follow two gay young adults into the restroom and when they went into the same stall (because all the urinals were full) he banged on the door and said "I know what you're doing in there. You need to leave". As the one was finishing using the restroom 2 seconds after he banged again saying "I see your legs one of you is in the corner I know it and you need to leave or i'll call the police." This is very alarming on multiple levels, because this so called "rule" is posted nowhere. Girls can all pile into a stall but the second gay men do who are friends and clearly nothing more, they are threatened with police? Also to look under the stall is a crime in itself and is completely unacceptable... Also if you noticed they were on opposite sides (of this very large stall) then what do you mean by "I know what's going on in there".... He then proceeded to force them out of the building. When looking for a good dive bar in Wilmington, this is it! It has everything you could ever want and need for a good time. From the drink choices, to the chip options for all you munchie junkies, to the soft comfy bar stools, to the old school juke box, to the funky art on the wall, to the arcade room, to the whole underground bar vibe of this place... man, you cant go wrong here! If I lived in Wilmington, this bar would take all my money! Haha! I came here with my friends doing some day drinking and we were the first ones there after it opened. So, not only did we have the whole place to ourselves for a while, but we managed to make some of the best memories from the whole day here too! Our bartender was a nice guy who took good care of us and took our picture on the couch for us as we mimicked the "Friends" TV show. I had stumbled upon this location one night and just knew I had to return and bring my best friend here. I am the type of gal who likes a place to drink, with things to do and Blue Post Billiards has all sorts of fun activities. It is located right downtown, in almost a back alley and you do have to be a member but it is a quick process. When you first walk in, you will see a bunch of pool tables and the bar. The bar has drafts, cocktails, cans, and really anything you could ask for. If you go through a door towards the back, there is a little hallway and then it brings you into a game room. There are pinball machines, a basketball game, skeeball, more pool, air hockey, darts, and a few other old school games. It was so much fun and most of the games were about 50 cents which was nice too. It can get packed on the weekends but if you go during the week, I have never seen it too busy. Great location, great drinks prices, and so many fun activities! Highly recommend. read more

This bar is a really comfortable place to go have some drinks. You kind of have a free pass to do what you want. If you want to stand around and chat... sure. If you want to dance... why not? This bar does require a membership, so you either have to remember to bring your (paper) membership card every time or fill out a very short application before you go in. We were trying to sign up for the membership and someone literally just asked him why we needed one and he closes the door on us and is like if you don't want to follow the rules then you can't come in, as we were trying to follow the rules. My point is we wanted drinks and a bouncer with a little more patience and kindness is a necessary. However, there are only 6 pinball machines and 3 of them were malfunctioning tonight. Granted the games are cheap but who wants to play pinball on a machine that doesn't keep score or does not have any sound? I rather pay more per game and have them in good working order or for them to be gone together if they do not work. It was disappointing given I had bragged to my son about how cool the place was then go there and find things aren't the same. I will go back and hope it was just an off day. Blue Post has gone downhill in the last 4 months. Have been here every weekend since 2021 but this weekend was the last straw. Saturday me and another friend went outside to smoke a cigarette after alerting a bouncer that we would be back in, did not hear him inform us that we would have to get back in line after smoking (This has never been the case in my years of attending this bar). After smoking and walking back in the bar the bouncer yelled at us to get back in line, they were "at capacity" even though there wasn't a single line at the bar and there were considerably less people in the bar than has ever been allowed. After we explained that we were just smoking he "explained" that smoking isn't allowed without standing in line every time. We explained that our cards were still inside and we were informed that we would have to wait 30 minutes in line (again) to be able to close out and retrieve our cards. If you're a 25-year-old grad student or young professional who wants to work it on a Friday night someplace other than the (unbelievably douchey) dance clubs on and around Front Street, this might be five stars. If, on the other hand, you're looking for someplace nice to hang out, drink a craft brew, and play some games, it's more like three. I'll average these two perspectives. Pluses: cavernous space featuring a bar area with pool tables (paid hourly, reasonable prices), darts, and couches; lots o' attractive young people, mostly medium-pretentious hipsters (who are, nevertheless, a googol times cooler than the predating marines, gangstas, and frat boys elsewhere Downtown, who will be dispersed by by mace-wielding cops on horseback at the evening's end). It is a good place either to meet some friends or make some new ones. Bonus: pretty good jukebox. Then, there's the adjacent game room: vintage 80s arcade, skee-ball, air hockey. It's got quantity and variety to spare. Most of the games are at their original prices, so it's both fun and cheap. What it does not have, perhaps understandably, given the age of everything, is the best maintenance. I love air hockey, for example, but the table barely worked the last few times I was in. The minuses: on Friday at 1AM, you're going to wait 20 minutes for a drink. The ratio of customers to bartenders is just too big, and so leaving the bar and coming back for a refill will just run you into last call with half the drink on that you wanted. There are cocktail servers, but it doesn't help much. Also: beer selection. Given how many taps Blue Post has, most are squandered on middling crap. Bottle selection is not a great deal better. Prices are okay, and they have low-rent specials on MGD and PBR, but usually strategically sell out of these on weekends, so you'll spend a penny or two in there. That is, unless you are drinking cocktails: then you will spend a mint in there. Six bucks for a well drink is obscene, even given NC's weird liquor taxation, and it just goes up from there. Cocktails also slow down the bartenders, meaning that the addition of a full liquor license some years back (it used to be beer-only) paradoxically made the service worse. So, take Blue Post for what it is, and consider what you might want from it. If being crammed in with 500 other drunk people is your scene, well, this is the best place to do it in Downtown Wilmington. Otherwise, stick to happy hour and flee after sundown. read more

Pool, pinball, air hockey, skee ball, darts and a full bar located down a small alley between front and water street. Think dive bar meets adult playground. Blue post is local gem! This is a great place to come with large groups of people but stay clear on Friday and Saturday night. Despite having a large front bar, back game room and indoor alley for lounging this place is popular and fills up quickly! I always stop by at the beginning of the night when I am bar hopping to avoid the line. My favorite part about this bar is the atmosphere and the free lollipops at the bar. Tip: don't be rude to the people checking id's at the door. One minor setback is like most bars downtown you need a membership card to enter. If you are looking for a bar that has games (darts, multiple pool tables, skeeball, foosball, AIR HOCKEY, basketball machines, arcade games) THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. I had been looking for a bar that had multiple games (especially darts) in the Riverwalk area and are so sad it took me this long to find this place. The bartenders are very attentive and friendly (I do not know much about different types of beers so I always end up having to ask for one that tastes similar to a flavor that I like, and their recommendations have been on point). PSA: You do need a membership to get in ($1 at the door, they give you a card, make sure to bring that card with you when you come back, because I am positive that you will be coming back). Also, the games are not free (except for darts), so make sure to bring cash/coins for those as well. SUPER PROS: They have brick walls which is something I love for a bar ambiance. They also have this little alleyway between the two big rooms (see the pictures posted by other yelpers) that is inside, but it makes you feel like you are outside (there are lanterns and glow in the dark stars on the ceiling), my favorite place to sit in this place. The games are all very fun, drinks are reasonably priced, and I've always had a great time when I go here. CONS: The membership thing kind of bugs me. I am not from the Wilmington area, and this type of thing is VERY common for bars in the downtown area but was not common from where I had lived previously. My husband and I enjoy shooting pool, so we were eager to visit Blue Post Billards. It is located in a wonderful old building decorated with vintage furniture, lamps, and movie posters. The ceiling has a lovely arrangement of multi-colored Christmas lights. They feature a full bar (including wine, yay!)! BPB is a private club, and a membership can be bought for a few dollars. They not only feature decent pool tables, but they have other games such as fooz ball, pinball, and air hockey. There is something for nearly everyone. I really need to improve my pool game and BPB is a good place to do just that. read more

We chose to go to this bar for the first time only because the people we were with really like hole-in-the-wall bars. We got there and were immediately harassed about a membership card, ok whatever, it was free. So we spent 10 minutes having our ID's checked, filling a member card out, and then having our ID's checked again to see if we were lying (because we were laughing and having a good time while filling it out). Our friends had already walked to the bar and were waiting for a bartender (they said only one person was needed to fill out the membership card). It was super dead. And within that 10 minute time, not one bartender greeted them or asked them if they needed anything. When we joined them at the bar, we waited 5 more minutes and still... nothing. During that time, there was also no music. None. I think you have to pay the jukebox to hear music? That's not any fun. So we left. read more

This has been my favorite bar in Wilmington since 2000. Back then they only served beer, but now it's filled with liquor galore. As well as a lot of choices in beer. St. Oyster Bar. The enterance is off an alley off of front street. And there is a huge parking lot right next to the bar. This place is huge! It has a warehouse feel, but not that cold warehouse vibe. There are plenty of electic, worn out and new, randomly placed items of furniture. From reto couches and chairs to small cafe like tables in the breezeway. The bar is seperated into 2 large rooms. The first room is where the bar is located. Which is a huge 'u' shaped bar. There are 2 pool tables in this room as well as a bunch of tv's, and a couple of dartboards. There is a great jukebox that has a ide variety of music. seriously. Its got a lot of tunes in it. There are also several couches places in this room. The lighting is medium, a little brighter than I like, but at least in the morning you wont be surprised by what you wake up next to. LOL. Then there is a breezeway that leads into the backroom. This was an old alley that they closed in completely. It is dark and cozy and has several couches and chairs to lounge on. The back room is basically a large playroom for adults. There are another 2 pool tables, an air hockey table (which I am the champion of), a couple of skiiball lanes, and several other arcade games. The drinks are very well priced and very stiff. They have a great selection of beer and liquor. The bartenders are friendly and know how to make drinks and serve quicky. Jeff works on wed and thurs nights and he has been one of my favorites since I first went there. It gets quite a mix of crowd. From college kids to mid 30-somethings, to people just in town visiting. There is definitely a hipster crowd that goes there but they arent obnoxious at all. The best thing to do is to get there early on the weekends and pull up at stool at the bar. Then you can get your drinks quickyl, listen to some great music, and people watch. And there is a lot of grat people watching in this place. Get into it! read more

This place is my new favorite bar. That's gonna hurt the pocket book when it comes to getting a cab home at the end of the night. This place is conveniently located in the middle of an alley, which just screams prohibition coolness. When you walk in the door the entire place screams laid back. I can't imagine anyone feeling tense or being worked up after sipping a glass of whiskey here for more than five minutes. The staff was extremely friendly, and the liquor prices cheap. The highlight for me was the amazing juke box pumping out tunes while we shot some pool. Jane's Addiction, Dead Kennedys, Elvis Costello, The Specials, Van Halen, Rod Stewart, English Beat, Stone Roses, the Clash, Sonic Youth, The Dead Milkmen... I could go on. It was excellent. All the tables and cues were in really good shape, which is always a good sign. Not in the mood for billiards? Fine.
