The Cloud 9 Rooftop Bar is the best place to enjoy a sunset over the water. The open air bar and the views of the river keep me coming back time after time. It's a perfect place for after work drinks to wind down. The waitstaff will come around to you and are very attentive and friendly. I have not ordered food, only drinks, so I can't comment on the food but they do have small flatbreads that look delicious. I highly recommend the Fire and Flame Mule. All of their signature cocktails have been great but this one was the perfect mixture of tequila, sweet and spice (without being too sweet). On Thursdays, they have a margarita flight which is a fun way to kick off the night. They also have a full bar and beer and wine menu. Come for the drinks, stay for the sunset. read more

What a fun and gorgeous place. It's kind of hidden in the rooftop of the Embassy Suites which is tucked off the main road. Views of the Cape Fear River are incredible. Live music on Friday nights. They have a variety of seating options including couches, high tops, low tops, tables for large groups, covered areas, and bar seating. Strongly suggest the Fire and Flames Mule. I was staying at the Embassy Suites in Wilmington so I stopped in to the rooftop bar one evening for a drink and to check out the view. The view from up there are amazing! There's plenty of shading up there as well, since you're on the roof and it's pretty hot up there, but it's comfy in the shade. A very cool spot to hangout with friends and family. My husband and I were visiting Wilmington over the weekend and we stopped by on a Sunday night to catch the sunset. They had live music which was quite good. You don't have a designated waiter as they are all floating around checking in on everyone. This is good and bad as there were lulls where they weren't that attentive and others where they were. Drinks aren't super strong as we weren't really drunk after like 4 drinks a piece but most of them were quite tasty. The best ones that we had were the frozen cocktails, drunk in love and sea & sand. Both come in either a glass or an adult caprisun pouch. Super tasty and when it's so hot, super refreshing. Bathrooms were clean. The only thing that I noticed was at night there were quite a few roaches/water bugs. Also if you're sitting by the glass railing at night they'll be a ton of spiders (big and small) on the glass, which I just about freaked out over. But others of course weren't bothered by it. Went for a girls night out on a Wednesday night at 7. We waited quite awhile for service. We both got cocktails which we weren't thrilled with. For $12 a cocktail, they should not be mostly crushed ice. We also got a cheese board for $19. I feel like that was overpriced too. If you're giving three spreads then maybe give more than 5 small pieces of baguette. I can't imagine that would dig into profits too much. Just really felt way too overpriced. We arrived somewhat late after attending a concert this evening and just wanted a nightcap as we had heard this bar at our hotel was great. 30 minutes until closing we sat at the bar. 15 minutes until closing one of 5 bartenders finally asked if we had been helped. We ordered two mixed drinks ($30 for them!) and that was it. No "can I get you anything else?" No "how are your drinks?" Nada. To confirm that it was not just us, another couple who came in around the same time as we did, finally asked if they were closed, since no one had asked them for their order either. Not a single person employed here seemed to give a crap about customers. Having been a bartender I do understand that you get tired. You just want to get off your feet. But, it is your job! Do it well or find something else to do that doesn't require you to respect your customer. We will not be coming back here. read more

They have a unique drink menu, a little upscale and pricey, but u do get good drinks. I had an absolutely horrible experience at Cloud 9 Rooftop Bar. Upon exiting the elevator, my guests and I were greeted by an extremely rude staff member. Due to policy, she had to mark large X's on our hands with a Sharpie. Despite already marking one of my friends with black X's, she continued to write over them, making the X's even larger with a permanent marker. She was incredibly unprofessional and seemed to be on a power trip. We had requested that she inform our waiter that we wouldn't be ordering any alcoholic beverages since we were all under 21, but she ignored this request. She didn't even ask to see my ID or verify my age, instead threatening to embarrass us and kick us out if we washed the X's off. This unpleasant encounter was just the beginning. We were dressed nicely for a friend's birthday dinner, but these large, ugly permanent X's on our hands made us feel out of place. We are not a group of people who break the law or try to illegally order drinks; we just wanted to enjoy the view and have a nice dinner. Upon finally entering, we weren't greeted by a waiter until we had to get up and see why another couple who arrived after us was able to place an order before we were. We were then told it was "self-serve." Despite this, we placed our order, but the server didn't write anything down and ultimately got the orders wrong. She even tried to offer a cheaper option to my friend, who is strictly vegan, despite her clear instructions on how she wanted her pizza made. The food was mediocre at best and overpriced for no reason. It tasted like high school cafeteria pizza. To make matters worse, we saw a roach scurrying across our seating area, and the underlying discriminatory tones from the staff were not appreciated. When we tried to validate our parking ticket, a worker offered to "help save us that $11," as if we didn't have the money. This experience was terrible, and if you are a person of color, I would never recommend coming to this place. While I understand the need to mark X's on hands if it were a club, this is a rooftop bar. The staff member went to great lengths to mark us, only for the server to ask if we wanted a margarita despite our big black X's. 0/10 would never recommend. read more

I came here on vacation with my mom and mainly stayed for the views. The seating is a giant rooftop with a few sofas but mostly high-top seating. We arrived a bit before sunset to try to stake out a good seat, but that was honestly a mistake because it was so hard to see with the glare of the light and it didn't fill up that much despite being a Saturday. We decided to order some mocktails and a pizza. The mocktails were okay, but what I appreciated about the experience was our server. My mom is quite picky and really wanted a mocktail of her own creation instead of the ones on the menu, and the server was so patient and sweet about getting her what she wanted. In terms of the pizza, our pizza came out way after those around us and then came out BURNT. Our server offered us another one, which was very sweet but we had already waited so long for food we just dealt with it and ate. If I came back, I would probably just stick to drinks and the view, rather than trying to get food (especially for the price tag). read more

Cloud Nine is a great place to kick back and toast the sun setting over the Cale Fear River. The drinks: large & rotating selection of beer (this IS Wilmington) featuring many local breweries. As for cocktails, it was hot, so Mojitos for me. The food: better than average bar food. (And I am NOT knocking bar food.). Stand outs were the sliders and the tater tots with pulled pork. The service: pretty darn good! The bartenders were great. They knew their offerings and were happy to make recommendations; friendly & helpful while still keeping the line going. Went here on a Sunday sunny day because they just recently opened for the new season. Super easy to walk in to the hotel and right to the elevator right up too the top. The view is gorgeous looking over the city and the river. There are plenty of tables to sit at and even couches along the edges which some have fire pits to keep you warm at night. You can either order from a table or up at the bar. There were plenty of staff working behind the bar and walking around. They also have music on some nights with bands. I ordered one of there frozen drinks and it was super yum and refreshing. I have not tried there food yet which are like small plates but will for sure try them next time I go. This place is perfect to enjoy the view of the water and grab a couple drinks and relax. I can't wait to go back! read more

100% recommend for fancy rooftop drinks. Yeah that drinks are expensive but with that view...? My rating is based solely on the food. My group came in at about 6pm last night, we had a 8 person group and no reservation and we got a seat easily. I think the restraunt/bar had only 1 server at this time. Everyone at our table ordered and app and an entree, I think it was mostly the hot wings, crab dip, pizza, and burgers. They did have a nice Sunday deal for a burger and a beer for 15$! My partner and I ordered the hot wings, the dill pickle pizza and 2 beers. Our friend also ordered the dill pickle pizza maybe 3 mins after we did. It took about 20 minutes for the beers to come out which is fine because like I said I think there was only one waiter running the show. As for the food though... the hot wings were so tiny. For the price of the wings and the amount you actually get is unreal. About 5 of those tiny wings Make-up what an actually chicken wing looks like. The dill pickle pizza was really good, except the chef forgot to put bacon bits on ours, and our friend who also ordered it.. His came out burnt to a crisp. What a beautiful location! I parked in the Embassy Suites garage when I got here. Take the elevator down to the hotel, then you'll find another that takes you directly to the 9th floor. My friend and I met up for drinks on a Wednesday evening around 6pm. It wasn't very crowded yet, but by the time we left around 8pm, it was pretty packed. When I first arrived, I had a seat on one of the couches as I waited for my friend. I was almost immediately greeted and served water, and another server came around a couple of minutes later to make sure I hadn't wanted to order a drink. Once my friend arrived, we moved to the bar and each ordered the Wild Horses mule. It wasn't my favorite, but it was still good if I stirred between sips to get that watermelon flavor mixed in. Once we started looking at the beers on draft, our bartender let us sample a few of her favorites. We both had the smooth Manila Mango and closed out after that. This is the kind of place you'll want to go to solely for the atmosphere and experience. The views are insane and worth at least one visit to see if you find another reason to keep coming back. read more

This place is all about the location as it has amazing views of downtown Wilmington. Great spot to catch the sunset. Great spot to bring visiting guests! Their drinks are reasonable priced and the staff is always nice. This is a tough spot for parking as you must pay to park in the garage and in the summer the garage at the hotel gets pretty full. If you call ahead you can reserve a table for 4th of July and get a fantastic view of the fireworks-they do shut down the streets during the fireworks and for about 2 hours after so don't try to leave right after. read more

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED at paying $15 ea. for both of us to to eat a LOBSTER ROLL appetizer. It was a grocery store roll with what tasted like the fake shrimp meat you can buy at a grocery store as well. Ordered a drink called ORANGE CRUSH $8, it did not taste like a mixed drink at all. Told the waitress I was very disappointed in taste of drink and asked her to take back. She brought me a shot to add to the drink not telling me this shot was more than the whole drink itself. Three of us stayed at EMBASSY SUITES for a workshop. We checked in with no problem. SAM gave us our keys. There's no bell hop for such an Exspensive/ fancy hotel. Valet, has cars piled up with one attendant running crazy! Then we are put on the 4th floor were no ice machines worked. We had to search other floors for ice. Then finally met JAMES /with housekeeping, on our floor. He said he'd get us our ice and extra towels. He was very helpful and kind. We went to the Rooftop/ cloud nine, bar and grill. The sunset was beautiful. Our waitress brought us delicious cocktails and we enjoyed chatting and the view. We became hungry and asked for menus. Unfortunately, their AC was broken and the kitchen wasn't open. They told us to eat at STEAM RESTAURANT. Unfortunately, it had a wait time. The manager NICOLE at Cloud9 saw our upset and bought us a round of drinks and some pork rinds and pimento cheese. We ended up getting a hamburger/fries from room service for $23.93. Unfortunately, they forgot the ketchup/mustard on the tray. By the time they brought it up the burger/fries were cold. The bill was$23.92, then at check out it was$25.92 on my bill?? See pictures of all receipts. They're ridiculous and couldn't tell me why I had the additional $2.00 added. The front desk helped zero with our problems. No manager was available. The rooms are always clean and comfortable. It was a fiasco night. We still managed to laugh it up and have fun. I'd appreciate a response from a manager, If possible.
