Atmosphere: now everyone knows this place isn't the best looking! Or smelling..... but it's your perfect hole in the wall bar / pool hall!!!! I love it here we visit often and tend to stay for a while drinking playing pool and having a good time!!! Customer Service: Customer service is great! You will meet some of the most chill and down to earth people ever! One thing I also really like about Ortin's is it's always a chill and inviting environment for people of all backgrounds! Pricing: drinks are pretty cheap and they offer free pool on certain days of the week so you can't beat that! read more

I'm giving Ortons two stars because I really love this place. They have a FANTASTIC set up. HOWEVER, tonight was an extremely unsatisfactory experience. The bartender, Nicole, was awfully rude. Simply asking her preference of beverage must've been an onerous task because we were met with a volley of animosity and very unwelcome experience. Besides the service of our bartender I truly feel like this place is a fun atmosphere. The bartender, Nicole, was extremely condescending and I was very set back. Sorry for Ortons. read more

Orton's is hands down my favorite bar in Wilmington. I always want to go there and I've never had a negative experience. It's historic, haunted, dark, cool, and has plenty of room to spread out with your group. The bartenders are very attentive, will help you select if you aren't sure what you want, and they make good drinks. Local flavor abounds in here, it's great fun to chat with the regulars and try your hand against them in a serious game of pool. It's usually quiet enough to actually have a conversation with your group and the juke box is really good if you don't want to hear them talk! I may also mention that I Love New York Pizza is right across the street which is really, really convenient for grabbing a bite on your way home! read more

I learned something very interesting about Orton Pool Room on Sunday. Many of you may have noticed that I am a wine lover. I can't tolerate much beer second to the gluten, and I rarely drink hard liquor due to my lightweight status. I have enjoyed shooting pool at Orton since I wrote my initial review. However, when I have requested wine, I have been told, "oh, we don't have any behind the bar. I would have to walk across the way to get some, and I can't leave my post." Or something to that effect. So, sometimes I have had water as my beverage. If I go on Sundays, they do have mimosas or individual bottles of sparking wine. But, I was never able to enjoy a glass of wine with my billiards game. Until this past Sunday. When I asked if wine was available, Harrison the bartender said, "of course! I just have to go in this next room to get some." He invited me to choose from the wines in this little room merely feet from the main bar. And, he served a very nice pour in a beautiful stemmed wine glass! I am thinking that the other bartenders just didn't want to bother to go into the other room that was oh so close by. But, now I know. And, next time that I go to Orton for pool, ask for wine, and get the run around, I will say, "oh yes you can get wine for me. It is in that room, so chop chop!" After all, I am the Duchess of Orton and royalty deserves wine! read more

Orton's Billiards & Pool - a bottle of beer on a table - Pool Halls Near Me - Wilmington, North Carolina

See all

Great place to play pool, with a decent jukebox. The staff seemed more concerned with a broken down credit card machine than their patrons... Go for pool, don't expect a drink though... read more

I'm not crazy about Orton's, but for reasons not important, I always end up there. It is probably the best pool hall in Wilmington. It is just a musty basement with a crappy beer selection and blue-collar guys shooting pool, though. Karaoke there is fun.. read more

How much fun is this place?? We were walking around waiting for a show at The Soap Box when we stumbled upon this underground pool hall. There were at least 7 or 8 pool tables, dart boards, tables, lots of tv's. What a great place to just chill and hang out. There weren't that many people in there, but I would assume that it can get rather smoky. And it was freezing! I'm sure they were just getting ready for the late night crowd, but come on. The air was on full blast. Anyway, check out their website. They're supposedly the oldest, continuously run pool hall in the US. Back to 1888 I believe. read more

I've been here probably 8 times now--all for drinking, not pool. They have a fantastic selection of draft, bottled, and canned beer. However, they often have two or even only one bartender working, making bar service super slow. (The bar staff is trying their best, but they struggle to serve everyone at the bar in a timely manner.) Still, the bar's product and vibe are great, so I'll keep coming back! read more

Nice place to go and play pool. Has lots of dif tables. Only wish the music they played was a little more pool bar relevant.

Great place to play pool or shoot darts. Lots of large and small tables to choose from. Staff and Bartenders are super nice. Outside area below for those who need a smoke too. HIGHLY Recommend. read more

Better than it used to be. Best pool tables in town.

This place was pretty cool. Was real slow during the day while we were there. Drinks were overpriced in my opinion. Service was good and free pool if your drinking. Has a very scary outdoor area I wouldn't recommend hanging out there. Oldest pool hall in America. read more

Fantastic bar. Fantastic bartender. I love dives and holes in the wall. This fits that description without being a dump. Go there. Have some scotch. You'll leave happy. read more

So I usually hit up this pool room on a thursday night and theres only about one or two groups there at the same time. I've always enjoyed playing pool here because unlike other pool halls in the wilmington it has a large number of tables and your actually going to get to play instead of sitting around waiting for a table. The beers are average and the irish car bombs are lacking but the bar tender always tries to throw in a irish word here or there and it is amusing. Count your money when you get it back though. My only serious complaint is that the local ghost tours come down here and they turn off the music for them so the group can hear, which means all the money you just put in the box is now wasted. This place has some of the best pool tables anywhere. They are well maintained, and the cues are straight (which is rare at most bars). The staff sweeps the tables often too, so they are always ready to go. Plus, free ping pong on a competition grade table, again a rarity. Saturdays are half price drafts, and tell me how many bars have a special like that on a weekend? Not many. Cool place, worth a visit. read more

After the renovations at this place it looks great. Staff is friendly and the drinks were great. I would recommend this place as a spot to go. read more

This 1 star is purely for the bouncer Rob Berkowitz whom I considered an acquaintance/friend I respect in the music scene but tonight he offended me and presented this establishment in a horrible manner. Tonight I drop my girlfriend off downtown so she could go out and have a night out with her friends and I decided that I wanted to have one single beer and play a game of pool with my friend who I haven't seen in a long time and is leaving town to go back home soon. Upon walking up and greeting Rob he asked if he knew us. I thought this was strange (specifically for me not my friend) because I have met Rob numerous times at shows, party's, and our bands even used to play together. We were nothing but nice and shook his hand and said it's nice to see you and I proceeded to ask if I could get past him and go downstairs. (I am not a drinker this is only the 3rd bar I've been to drink at since turning 21) Rob then said no because we were over-served. I thought he was joking at first because as I said previously, I know Rob personally. He then proceeds to tell us he isn't joking and I'm stunned. I was 100% sober and hadn't had a single drink, my friend had had 1 at my home before I drove us downtown. I gave no indications of being intoxicated and in fact was not. Which leaves me to believe I was possible denied entry to an establishment that I've loved and supported, because of a possible personal problem the bouncer Rob may have had with me. This I can't prove and my friend did say something rude to rob after which I personally apologize for because it was not professional and embarrassed me; but the bottom line is Rob Berkowitz tonight presented Orton's in an offensive and upsetting manner. I believe Orton's is an amazing establishment with a rich history and wonderful service. But tonight I was beyond disappointed. I was offended and saddened to be turned away by someone I considered a friend, I had thought, for seeming "over-served" when I had had absolutely nothing to drink or anything of the sort. I wish I could say I am still gonna try and come back, but if I've been turned away sober, then how can I ever get in even after a single drink. I now feel unwelcome and unwanted at my absolute favorite Bar and Billiard establishment. read more
