The best part about my horrible stay at the hotel across the street was walking into this spot. I was seated quickly and chose to sit upstairs. This spot has the coolest vibe. But if you're close-minded, don't come in. There's LOVE for ALL everywhere in this establishment. I had already looked at the menu prior to coming in (that's how I roll) so I knew what I wanted. I LOVE Tacobaby! It is such a special treat to enjoy their food. I love the shrimp nachos so much- they are HUGE and super super tasty! I brought a friend with me who ordered carne asada tacos. What a cool place, there was some sort of show going on in town and the place was packed but they were able to get us in at the bar almost immediately. First question the guy asked you dont need this done before the show starts do you? the look of calm that came across his face when we said no, was almost funny. 11/4 I don't know how I forgot to post about this in November because it was the most memorable food I had on my entire trip to Wilmington! The menu isn't large but everything we tried was delicious. We started with the Shrimp Nachos which came with queso , pico de gallo, sour cream, chipotle aioli , cowboy candy and guacamole. I was surprised when it came out that the shrimp were fried, it was different but delicious nonetheless. && cowboy candy is pickled jalapeño. I ordered the Fiesta Pollo Tacos on flour tortillas (it's comes with two). They were really good! The pink sauce made them stand out. I finished both and would've ordered more if I wasn't saving room for dessert at Kilwins. Hubby ordered their Birria tacos. He said they were good but didn't finish his tacos. We wanted to sit inside because it was a little cool. There is bar seating and a few high top tables downstairs but because we had a little one with us we ended up sitting upstairs. I struggled to justify three stars for this one. The ambiance and service were fine, but the food wasn't very good and it is overpriced. We tried the chips and salsas. Queso with chorizo, and roasted red pepper with lots of chipotle pepper. The latter was not palatable, with way too much chipotle. The former was probably canned with a sprinkle of chorizo. Which is tasty, but not special. We had onion rings, which were fine. We had the Birria, which was tough, came in two oblong pancake type things, fried, with a small cup of random broth. If we hadn't ordered it, we wouldn't have guessed it was supposed to be Birria. This should not happen. The carne asada tacos were less bad, but they had no seasoning. The tortillas were tough, and I had to eat most of the taco with a fork. The side of beans was exactly as if you opened a can and warmed them up; no seasoning. What is sorely lacking here is a chef. It is not difficult to make tacos that are really good, and any cook can make them, but someone has to determine the seasonings. The concept is fine - it is all about execution. read more

My guy and I were CRAVING quesadillas on a Monday night. He mentioned Tacobaby and neither of us had been before. We walked in and it was SO SO cute in there (loved the pic of dolly on the wall and all the cute neon signs). It's a smaller place, but we were able to walk right in and get a table. The quesadillas were SO good, and exactly what we needed. Our waitress Katie was also awesome and friendly. The food came fast and I'll definitely order this again. We also went back a second time on a Saturday night around 8 (with 6 of us) and we were still able to walk right in and sit down (with Katie as our waitress again!). I got the sampler and it was 10/10, so I recommend that as well. Only reason for the 4 stars is that my guy got the bang bang shrimp tacos and they were a bit more underwhelming than we had hoped. Stopped into this cool and chill vibed taco joint yesterday for lunch while near downtown. Tacobaby is impressive, with just two guys running the place yesterday, a place of two floors and a bar seating area. The guy running front of house was so nice and helpful when I wasn't sure what to order. I decided on chicken tacos which were big and tasty for a great meal price that includes a drink and salsa! You can tell that the meal was prepared with care and mad cooking skills too, the shredded chicken, cortija cheese, and corn ingredients of a taco mixed into a scrumptious medley. I wanted to try this place first because my favorite bar (The Pour House) owner just opened up this place and I had to check it out! My first initial thought was that this place was very trendy in the way it looked. They have a greenery wall with neon lights. They also have a painting of Dolly Parton on the wall which I loved! My friends and I all got margaritas for drinks which i was blown away by. Mine was the taco baby special which i was very satisfied with. It was very sweet which i enjoyed. For starters my friends and I got the taco baby sampler. The sampler consisted of different salsas and queso. The queso had to be stirred before eating it which I didn't mind because it was still delicious. I really wanted to try their birria tacos but they were sadly out. So instead i got their chicken quesadilla. I thought it was just an average quesadilla but it didn't fill me up. My friends for the sweet potato tacos. They both said their tacos were really good and filling. The only problem which I didn't mind was each taco comes with salsa but our waiter had forgotten ours. Ate at the soft opening today. We parked at the 212 North 2nd Street parking garage, where the first hour is free. The ticketing machine wasn't working, so we got free parking after staying for more than an hour. This restaurant was created by Rumcow and Whiskey Tango. It's located two doors down from Rumcow. The decor is similar to Rumcow- palm island, shabby chic style with lots of fake plants. It's a small restaurant. There is some bar seating, seating on the ground floor and upstairs. No outdoor seating. The most seating at a table is four total, located upstairs. After entering you pay at the front cashier and then sit wherever you like. They give you a number and bring the food to your table when it's ready. For appetizers, we tried the Hush Puppies ($5), which are supposed to be stuffed with jalapeno and cotija cheese with roasted garlic aioli sauce. The hush puppies were big deep-fried balls topped with grated cotija cheese. Couldn't taste any cotija cheese inside and there were barely any jalapenos. I rejoiced when I found the one golden piece of jalapeño in my hush puppy. Other than not having the ingredients as advertised, it was a good hush puppy and the garlic aioli sauce paired perfectly with it. By the way, the Street Corn appetizer is Esquites, not elote (corn on the cob). Besides appetizers, chips and salsa, rice, beans, queso and guacamole are offered. Ordered the fried jalapeno queso ($8) and the smoked shrimp and bacon guacamole ($9). Both the queso and guacamole were served with pita chips and in cute plant pots. The queso was a white queso with two deep-fried whole jalapenos stuck in the queso dip. How the jalapeno was presented made it hard to eat. It would have been better if the jalapeno was diced or not put in the queso to prevent sogginess. Otherwise, the queso with bites of the jalapeno was delicious on the pita chips. The smoked shrimp and bacon guacamole was okay. I didn't like the pairing of pita chips with this guacamole. Tortilla chips would have been a better choice. Big bacon pieces and chopped shrimp dominated the guacamole. It would have tasted better if the bacon pieces were cut into smaller pieces or minced. The shrimp didn't have a strong smoky flavor as I hoped for. Taco meals come with two tacos pieces and you can make it into a burrito or a bowl instead as well as a combo meal with salsa, chips, soda for an additional $3. Unfortunately, cannot mix and match different kinds of tacos. There are two types of tortillas listed, either flour or corn. However, the staff said they have a third option that is a mixture of both flour and corn. They allowed a mixture of different tortillas for each taco order. My partner tried the chorizo and beef tacos ($8) as well as the short rib tacos ($10). I ordered the duck confit tacos ($12). The tacos were served on top of newspapers laid down on a round tin plate. My partner thought his tacos tasted okay, gave them a rating of 7/10. The duck confit taco was good, but it was missing some of the ingredients like mole and pecans in the mango pecan salsa. I liked the flavors of the mango with cucumber and red bell pepper in the taco. I got one taco with a corn tortilla and the other taco with the flour and corn mixture tortilla. Both tortillas were good. The flour/corn tortilla had a nice crisp from being heated on the grill. They had a plan of making their own hot sauce, but they did not have it ready/available during our visit. Sriracha was the only hot sauce available. For beverages, they had sodas, canned and bottled beer, canned wine, tequila, and cocktails. There is no tap water available, only bottled water for a fee. Tried the Naranga celestial cocktail. Either tequila or Mezcal is added. I went with Mezcal, which added a nice smoky flavor. The cocktail also had orange zested ancho agave syrup, orange, pineapple, and lime juice with the one large ice ball. The cocktail was good, sweet, but barely had any alcohol. I'm a lightweight and I didn't get any buzz. I wasn't impressed the cocktail was served in a plastic cup either. They forgot to bring us utensils so we had to ask for them. Only forks were provided. I think after they get everything situated and the routine down, the food will get better. read more

My family and I went here after passing by and seeing the sign outside, we were on our way to ironclad brewery but stopped in for a bite. We are more than happy to have done so, being Mexican most places disappoint but this place was amazing. We ordered a steak bowl, as soon I tried it I knew the beans were cook fresh and the seasoning on the meat was great. The staff was entertaining and we got to talk to the cook to see if he had a Latino background or how he had all the flavors on point. He gave us a sample of the birria and that too was delicious.
