Two girlfriends and I decided to get tacos for Sunday lunch last week. There was no line (astounding!), and we were all so hungry! Among us we ordered a bunch of tacos, nachos, horchata, and queso and chips. I decided to try the special taco of the day- the pota-toe- which was crispy and delicious! We all enjoyed our food and left stuffed! Also they have some new specials and I'm SO excited!!! read more

Went to Block Taco recently and left disappointed, mostly because of the service. The staff seemed to be having a rough day, and unfortunately that came across in how they spoke to customers, a little short and rude, even if unintentional. I get that everyone has bad days, but it's not something that should come through to customers. The food itself was okay, nothing special, but not bad either. The horchata, though, was a miss for me. It was way over-seasoned with a tangy flavor that didn't match any horchata I've had before, which made it hard to finish. Not a terrible experience overall, but between the service and the drink, I probably won't be rushing back... read more

My new favorite! The Asada Nachos were outstanding! Quick and friendly service when ordering food and at the bar inside, and what a fun interior! So glad Block Taco was easy and breezy this holiday weekend. It was great to have an excellent meal in a fun place without the the wait. The only way this place could be better is if they opened a second location closer to my home in Hampstead. read more

Okay, tacos were absolutely FIRE. There's a reason why there's a line! The tacos were tasty and fresh. You absolutely have to get the limeade. I got two of them! However, the Taos small and expensive. 5.75 for one small fish taco. It can absolutely get pricey and adds up quick. Casual quick place to get a bite with kind service. I will be back. read more

Ordered the Brussel Sprouts, Carne Asada, and Carnitas tacos, and none of them disappointed! My favorite was probably the Carnitas with their hint of cinnamon (don't knock til you try it!), but honestly they're all good! Chips and queso were on point too! Found this spot on Yelp (thanks for the assist!) LOVE YELP! read more

One of the best taco spots I've ever had in NC! Always hesistant about tacos after growing up in Texas, but this place passed the test for sure! Super fast service, super passionate about what they do, and it reflects in the flavor! The vibes were also exactly what you wanted it to be for a taco spot. read more

Of course I recommend Block Taco. Do I really need to say anything else? They're all over Instagram and come as one of the first recommended place to try by locals! This place is a staple in Wilmington. Right next to Satellite bar and lounge, and in the middle of a hopping and boppingstreet, this is the place to go for some quick tacos or nachos, gourmet and authentic. Various options to choose from and you can't go wrong. The key points are that you can't dine inside - it's just a walk up counter outside - but you can definitely sit outside on the picnic tables or go to the bar next-door and post it there. Service is friendly and quick. They call your name loudly, sometimes with a megaphone. Lol. read more

Did not eat here but did stop in for drinks one evening. Atmosphere was very casual and the space outside was awesome, relaxing and in general provided a great vibe. Awesome place, will be back to try the tacos. read more

Ordering process Awful Mid service break awful Micro greens is not a replacement for cilantro Your fish taco was a tadpole or a very tiny fish. Only one piece of mushroom for my taco. There was a lot of people waiting a very long time to order and get their food. The business was not prepared for the crowd. We went back to order something else and they were closed, they took a mid break. A lot of lost business due to them closing early for a break, they hadn't been open too long and the people kept coming with such disappointment of them being closed. This could have been an awesome place to eat this day but when you open and run out of food it makes no sense. This business is established and should always be prepared especially when people are looking forward to the special food (Vegan) you make and people love eating, there is not too many places that we can go for this special treat. My nachos were awesome, I truly would order them again. Hope the next time I come back we have a better experience. read more

I got the asada, fish, and carnitas tacos plus chips and salsa. I wasn't very impressed for the value. I knew going into it they were street tacos but they left a lot to be desired. They came out with just meat on a tortilla and you had to add the toppings. Pretty sad tacos when they arrived. The taste was good, but not $5 a taco good imo. Chips and salsa were just pico de gallo and chips. The area was cool and the outdoor seating was nice but overall I wish I would've passed on this one. read more

My wife and I love this place! It's literally an order window connected to Satellite Bar and Lounge in Wilmington. The ingredients are super fresh, extremely tasty, and the nachos, especially with chicken, are outstanding. The atmosphere, service, and location make this place. Awesome. My favorite part is there is a toppings bar right next to the order window so that you can add, some accoutrements or hot sauce to your order. Again, I love this place. read more

You need tacos after a few beers, right? We were psyched that right around the corner from New Anthem Beer Project was this little taco window attached to another bar. It had a really cute look with lots of pretty plants and bright colors. There's some outdoor seating but you can also order to-go or eat in the bar. The small menu consisted of gourmet tacos around $4 each and a few other items. We tried 3 tacos: The Carnitas taco (Braised Pork Shoulder rubbed in coffee, cinnamon and brown sugar, topped with fresh pico de gallo). The Fish taco (Local caught Fresh Fillets fried in a light and crispy Tempura Batter. Topped with slaw, pico de gallo and smoked poblano crema). The Asada taco (Charbroiled Skirt Steak, seasoned with chile butter, served traditionally with fresh cilantro and white onion). My husband and I both got a fish taco, and agreed it was the best. There is nothing better than seafood from a beach town, so fresh tasting and just a light batter for some crunch. The crema was also delicious. The carnitas was a bit sweet for me and felt it needed a sauce. The steak in the asada was on point, cooked tender and well-seasoned, just felt the taco needed more than just white onion. I would also say the tacos are on the small side for their price. We also got some of their Chips and Guacamole. The corn tortilla chips were perfectly fried and the guacamole was very creamy. I liked the texture of their chips a lot as they were a little heavier than standard Mexican restaurant fare. A great unexpected find for taco lovers! read more

The tacos are available at a window on the sidewalk. Walking inside the building leads to a bar, which is separate, but they appear to have effectively shared their space with the taco joint. There were also some chairs on the sidewalk. They had a respectable vegetarian (nay, vegan) selection. The brussels sprout taco of such repute wasn't transcendent, but it did have nicely sauteed sprouts and an abundant variety of flavors. The fried buts of mushroom in the other were indulgent. Both tacos had ample garnishes and double layered tortillas; however the hot sauce I asked for I didn't seem to get. They had a green bean one as well that I kind of wish I'd tried. I also got a horchata, which was extremely sweet and full flavored, with visible ground spices gathering at the bottom, waiting to be mixed back in. The food was fresh, and it was good. read more

Simple menu of tacos and soup. The tacos are on the small side but so tasty! The soup (chicken tortilla soup, 16 oz) was fantastic! I mean to take photos. It's topped with a salsa and guacamole; fresh-made tortillas at the bottom. It was filling and the best deal on the menu. read more

So, eaten here probably 50 times. Mostly good with good degree of variation. Taken food back twice. First time they were kind and made it right with a new order. Today they berated me and remade the order with a paltry amount of food and were extremely rude A.F. About it. Had tipped 20% too for a counter order. Seems like the place has gone supremely downhill full stop. read more

We stopped here because it was nearby and open late when we left a concert at Greenfield. When we walked up to the order window the guy said they were out of a lot of things. I think he said Asada, carnitas, Brussels and fish, so we both ordered chicken nachos. We were both disappointed. Our nachos were mostly chips, many which were stuck together, and just a few chunks of chicken. Earlier in the day we had wandered down Front St and seen people eating lunch, a few with nachos at various restaurants, and they all looked better and bigger than the ones we had at Block. Not much quality or quantity for the price. read more

Trendy tacos aren't usually my vibe-- but Block Taco definitely changed my mind! My husband and I ordered two tacos each. I got the carnitas and the Brussel sprouts. Both were delicious! I loved how spicy the salsas were and the salsa bar had some yummy extras like pickled red onions. The only ding for me is that the corn tortillas are obviously store-bought, but committing to handmaking fresh corn tortillas is another venture in and of itself. We topped it off with some of their limeade which was super yummy and it'd be even better with some tequila I think ;) All in all, we'll definitely be back for more tacos. read more

Food is excellent. You order outside and can eat inside or outside. Totally up to you. Drinks are inside. You order from a little window outside and they call your name over the loudspeaker to pick up your order. It is a dog friendly restaurant as well. The worker taking orders and calling names was funny. You could tell they take pride in their food. I got a Brussels Taco and a shrimp tostada. Both were super tasty. read more

The food is delicious. Well worth the high prices. Sauces are amazing. Flavor explosion.

Service was great atmosphere quirky and awesome also unique stoped by with my friend and had beer next door as well

Excellent food. Looks like the locals love it, and maybe a bit of West Coast vibe(?) The bar next door makes it easy to grab a beer. Did I mention very excellent food? My opinion, in order of excellence, we tried the carne asada, mushroom, fish, and brussel sprouts tacos. Horchata was quite good, and we're not embarrassed to say we are horchata snobs. Pricey tho! 6 tacos, 1 horchata, 1 beer, and tip hit on $40. read more

Amazing. In Wilmington for the weekend and i read so many reviews about the brussels sprouts taco so i had to get it. There were also two other vegetarian tacos that I was interested in, a mushroom taco and a green bean taco, but the person at the window let us know that they had a lobster tostada as a special so i had to try that too. The brussels sprouts taco is well worth the hype. It's easily one of my top 5 favorite tacos of all time, and i lived in Texas for 5 years so that's saying something. I went back for a second one, don't judge me lol. My husband had the nachos that were also much hyped in reviews, he described them as "satisfying." He ate all of them don't get me wrong but he wasn't very excited. He said he would go back and try something else. Not to worry, we'll be going back before we leave. There's a cool bar next door and a patio in back. We didn't check out either just bc it sounded like there were kind of a lot of people. Not that they weren't social distancing we just are wary about groups of people so we opted to sit in front instead. We're excited to check out both places again during the daytime. Whatever your dietary preferences, go get that brussels sprouts taco please. read more

PROS: Brand new, trendy, hipster food truck vibes, yummy horchata , super clean, unique take on tacos, vegetarian options, great chips, lots of condiments, live music next door. You get free chips and salsa when you order 3 tacos. Brussel sprout taco was a huge win. CONS: You may think that satellite bar and lounge is the same place as blocktaco but it's not. You order your food at a window outside and pay, and sit outside to eat, very limited seating. I was confused because the lady at window said we could eat at bar next door so we did (it was cold) and the bar staff didn't tend to us, whatsoever, it made things unenjoyable. Granted it wasnt blocktacos fault, the service stops when they hand you your food at the window. My husband didn't like the tortillas that stuck to the tray paper and noted his chicken and steak tacos were dry. The "salsa" was disappointing, and had more onion than tomato. I think Mexican restaurants excel for their simplicity and the food truck style being new, it was overall confusing at first. Will give another try and avoid the bar next time. read more

Back for more, and once again Block Taco did not disappoint. I was initially bummed to hear that they were out of the mushroom taco, but I subbed in the green bean one. Block Taco never disappoints! You can't go wrong with tacos especially if they are within walking distance of your front door! This was definitely a welcome addition to the South Front District! They offer a variety of tacos from chicken to mushroom and they are all fantastic. I recommend the fish and the Brussels (don't knock it until you try it).
