After a day at the beach, I stopped by to grab some tacos. I ordered the birria tacos, and they exceeded my expectations. They were delicious and just the right portion. The restaurant is filled with amusing signs and phrases that add to the atmosphere. While the prices are a bit on the higher side, the experience is definitely worthwhile. The service was also good and quick.

Cali Burrito...Very Good! I highly recommend!

TOTAL: $24.73 - Taquitos Chingones - Queso Fundido & Chips - Horchata ‍SERVICE: Got this delivered while I was sick, but the food was packaged with care. FOOD: If you've never had birria tacos dipped in that heavenly broth, you're missing out. Cheesy, saucy, hearty, like a pot roast taco in a way I can't fully describe. The queso had a nice kick, and the chips themselves were seasoned! Horchata was nice & cinnamon-y. Really quality food. TRAVEL: ~23 mins. Everything was packaged so well so that it was nice & hot when delivered. Sometimes tacos don't travel well, but these sure did. Chingon Taqueria is well-worth the drive across the bridge to Leland!

I had medium hopes trying this place- it looks very fast-food like/lower food quality, but it's always busy so I was hoping my assumptions were off on the quality of food. I was kind of right- the food was ok, nothing incredible, but it wasn't bad. The special prices aren't bad so it's definitely a way to eat a good amount of decent food without blowing your budget. Nothing incredible though.

Finally! An authentic taqueria with fresh, made-in-house corn tortillas. Naturally gluten free and oh so delicious. This place is already doing more business than I've ever seen at the previous restaurant in this location. The line can get long during peak hours, but it moves at a good pace and the wait allows for ample time to peruse the lengthy menu. You order and pay at the counter, then take your number and find a seat. There are booths, tables, and countertops available, depending on your needs. Multicolored art adorns the walls and ceilings, and lively music plays from the speakers. On my first visit, I opted for the two taco combo, the Tinga verde (chicken) and the Carnitas (pork), served with rice and beans. The tacos are served unadorned, and there is a salsa bar next to the soda fountain to add whatever goodies you like. There were three different salsas available - my favorite is the milder red salsa, although the tomatillo salsa is tasty too. There's a hotter red salsa available, and hot sauce on the tables for those who need to kick it up a notch. There's also a plethora of other add-ins: cilantro; radish; lettuce; tomatoes; cheese; pinto beans and more. Another revelation are the aguas frescas available. I enjoyed the Jamaica (hibiscus) very much, a great accompaniment to the meal. And the horchata is delicious! Looking forward to trying a rumchata on a future visit. Welcome to Leland, Chingon!

Not my first or last time here! And not my first review of this place either. LOVE THIS PLACE!! This time I had the Taquitos Chingones ($15.49) which is 4 boneless short rib barbacoa tacos with oaxacan cheese, onions & cilantro with there perfect consome! It's not made everyday so I get excited when I go and it's there. And as always, the place was clean, the staff was friendly and the chips and house salsa were great. I do love that they have a large salsa and toppings bar because then you can create your own unique plate to your liking. They have this amazing dark smokey salsa (pictured) that I wish I could bring home in a gallon size I could put that on everything. I of course can't wait to go back... maybe today!

I wasn't sure what to expect of this place, as from the outside it looked like a fast food joint. In a way it is, but with a fun atmosphere. It's a colorful place, larger interior with fun signs all over to read, good music, and a counter to order food. No sit down service except the staff brings your food when ready. Drinks include beer and a variety of margaritas. At the counter, a couple was getting their order in, so I had a little bit of time to check out the food options. There was a variety to choose from so I went simple by ordering two tacos. Ordering three is a better deal but I thought two would be enough for me. I ordered the Al Pastor and the Carnitas tacos. It took a while for the food to come out. They have a salsa bar where I topped each taco with cilantro, pico de gallo, red salsa, etc. The tacos were tasty but the Al Pastor was a little too fatty. I preferred the pork Carnitas. There wasn't a lot of meat in each taco. I compare this place to one of my favorites in Maryland where they serve the meats over two tortillas that I can split the meat between both tortillas. Prices seem a little high for a fast food type place, but I plan to go back and try other items on the menu. And one of their margaritas too!

There is only outdoor seating, primarily covered in a built outdoor shack. I ordered a burrito with pastor, two tacos with chorizo and pastor, carne asada plate and churros. Everything was delicious, no complaints, other than the tacos needed more cilantro (for my preference) and the pinto beans were bland. They included extra corn tortillas, two tomatillos salsas, and two smoky chipotle chili salsas. I asked for no soft cheeses. The pastor and chorizo were flavorful. I would've liked the pastor to be more crispy, but I still really enjoyed it. The burrito was the best burrito, especially with the salsas, that I've enjoyed so far since living on this side of the coast. The burrito came with a ton of fresh plain salad. Double fresh corn tortillas for each taco makes me so happy! That's the only right way to have a legit Mexican taco. The Carne Asada from the plate dish was pounded thin, mild flavor. Came with a grilled half of a jalapeño, small side plain salad, grilled nopales, grilled onions, rice, and pinto beans. Even though the pinto beans were bland, the salsas made up for the lack of flavor. Churros were warm and fresh. Wish this place was a lot closer to me, otherwise, I would frequent it a lot more!

I tried a few of their tacos, their barbacoa, carnitas and asada, they all came in 2 homemade tortillas with cilantro, onions and a lime on the side. They were all very tasty, but what really set them apart was their salsas. They came with a salsa verde and a salsa roja. The salsa roja was one of the best I have ever tried, it was smokey, spicy and unique. They also have some incredible aqua fresca with quite a few options, such as horchata, lemon, pecan and coconut. Definitely do not sleep on them! You get a large cup for only $3 and they are worth every penny! There is not a ton of seating options, so take out is probably your best bet, but they do have 6 tables with 4 chairs each in an enclosed space if you are interesting in eating there. The food came out quick, the staff was super friendly and most importantly, the food was delicious. Give them a shot if you are looking for authentic Mexican food in Leland!

Smoky Chicken That Needs No Sauce!…read more We popped into Papi's Peruvian Chicken on a Sunday, hoping to beat the church crowd, but it turns out, the real blessing was waiting inside. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, my buddy leaned over and said, "Man, someone's smoking something and it smells delicious." When we stepped inside, his grin got even bigger as he turned to me and said, "It's this place, great choice!" We both went for the smoked dark quarter with street corn salad. My buddy chose green beans, and I went with the Inca pork beans. I asked the woman at the counter to recommend a sauce, and she took the time to explain each one, patiently answering all my basic questions. It turns out, the chicken didn't need any sauce at all. It was smoky, moist, and packed with flavor--crispy on the outside with a deep, wood-fired taste that lingered with every bite. The Inca pork beans were hearty and full of flavor, a solid sidekick to the main event. The street corn salad, while fresh, could have used a bit more kick--maybe a sprinkle of cheese or a dash of lime to brighten it up. The interior's industrial strip mall vibe is functional but could benefit from a few authentic touches--like Peruvian art or music--to match the rich flavors coming out of the kitchen. If you're craving smoky, fall-off-the-bone chicken, Papi's Peruvian Chicken is worth the trip. I'll definitely be back to try more!
