Stopped by for a business lunch. Got a bit of history on this location as I usually eat at one of the others but was told this is the original. Grabbed a two top and was waited on quickly. The sweet tea is the bomb. I had the shrimp Tacos and Mark had the grilled chicken salad. All was delicious. My tacos were large and filled overflowing with shrimp. What happened to this place? I was craving k38 I remember it being so delicious and fresh. But it's nothing like that anymore. I took my family of 5 here for dinner and it was a total bust. I spent 100 dollars and the food was not fresh. The appetizer was a dip trip of corn and bean dip which tasted terrible, guac had no flavor like mashed plain avocado with no salt. I ordered the shrimp fajitas and the first plate that came out was completely scorched the flavor of burn was in everything. They brought me a new one which was better not burnt but not enjoyable. The server was pleasant, I will say for a table of five only one basket of chips was brought out and we had to keep asking for another. This place has seen better days. read more

Also, big bonus: chips and salsa are complimentary and replenished quickly. The chips and salsa were probably my favorite part about my meal. They came out hot and salty. My food was just OK. I got a two-taco combo, which came with a side of rice. The rice tasted like the instant Mexican rice packs that you get at the grocery store. My fish tacos were fine but came with shredded cheese. (You don't put cheese on fish, homies!) We also got a bean and cheese and rice burrito, which thankfully came with all of the ingredients inside the rolled tortilla, like a burrito should. We also got a red-sauce enchilada with rice and beans, and the beans were tasty and went well with the enchilada. All in all, the ambiance was what most impressed me with this Mexican restaurant. We were seated in a cozy little nook, and I noticed that there were many cozy nooks all around the dining room. I live in S. California and eat at many Mexican restaurant. None are close to this bad! This goes for the sister restaurants, Tower 7, also, if I'd known they were affiliated I never would have tried this place. If you're going to use canned beans, at least get decent ones. The salsa is a little sweet and has no heat. The carne asada was burnt and dried out. The plate the tostada was served on dwarfed the food. Which was fine because the food is awful! Came in with a group for an early dinner around 5pm. Service to order and time it took to get our food was good. The server did not refill drinks or come back to check on us, she must have been too busy hanging out with the other servers behind the bar. I ordered a $17 burrito which came out on an almost empty plate. The burrito was nearly empty, which I would have told the waitress if she ever came to check on us. Very evident she knows that her purpose is to engage and ensure customer satisfaction. Only a party of 3, celebrating a friend's birthday, and she was patient with us catching up before attempting to place our order. Walt, the manager, came by the table to ensure all was well. I used to go to K38 regularly. I hadn't been there in about two years and, tonight, I saw for myself how the quality dropped 100%. I ordered a mondo burrito. In the past it was huge with siides of refried beans and Spanish rice. Tonight it was a fraction of its original size and alone on a plate with a couple splashes of sauces as a poor attempt to make it look bougie. They're obviiously cutting back. I live within walking distance of this place so I'm quite the regular here just because it's convenient. Here's my takeaway on my experiences so far... The food is OK. I feel like by now I've tried almost every item on the menu and sadly, I'm not impressed. The food lacks flavor altogether, unlike authentic Mexican cuisine. They do have the absolute best salsa and queso, but I think it's sad that those are my favorite items off their menu. When it comes to drinks, they do make pretty badass margaritas, but neither me nor my wife are huge margaritas people, so we're not coming here for them. We keep coming back because we always hope our food will taste better next time. The pineapple jalapeño margarita is amazing, just as every other one in my opinion. The staff is always friendly, though last time we came in we were welcomed in by the manager on duty who made unnecessary remarks about not being busy and therefore being able to sit us immediately, nonsense. They're usually on a wait - I can see this place from my apartment building and it's shocking to see them not being busy and with a line out the door - so we usually come in when it's not so busy. They have plenty of parking around the building. The ambiance here is mostly like your typical Mexican restaurant, welcoming and mouthwatering from the delicious smells from the moment you walk in. This place will remain in my list of convenient places I can go when I want a "Mexican" dinner, but I think the flavors coming from their kitchen are far from authentic Mexican. read more

I can't even begin to describe my feelings of this establishment. This is one of my favorite places in Wilmington and have to come back when I visit. I met a friend and started with an order of small queso. It came almost immediately and is almost enough for three people! I also am obsessed with their salsa. Both a friend and I ordered a house margarita and my mom ordered a glass of sav blanc. All were so good we got another round. I ordered the traditional bowl with carne asada, steak cooked perfectly, my mom ordered chicken fajitas, little burnt on the bottom but she didn't complain, and my friend ordered the shrimp wrap. We all had so much food leftover. I can't remember the last time I felt this full but it's something about K38 where I just can't stop! I'm so glad this place has lasted through COVID.!! read more

Recently moved to the area and heard K-38 come home a few times when asking for food spots to try. Decided it was a perfect lunch to grab to-go. Ready in 10 - 15 minutes! Went with the shrimp tacos because they sounded light and flavorful. Happy I had the container with sides to eat them over - messy but SO worth it. Tortillas did get a bit soggy but not as bad as you'd think, corn may have been a different story (went with flour). Loved the simple slaw veggies paired with avocado, pico and seared shrimp. The awesome citrus chimmichurri (?) style sauce was a great accent to elevate the flavors. A side of black beans rounded it out for a healthy and satisfying meal. Definitely one I'll order again - but there are also SO many yummy items on the menu I still need to try. Can't wait for the next time! read more

First time visiting K-38 Baja Grill after reading many positive reviews. Chose to sit outside for our Sunday dinner since the weather was perfect. The outside sitting area (deck) was small but accomodating. Only recommendation would be to possibly expand the outside deck sitting area, somehow in the future, to offer more tables rather than side "bar-style" seats around the centered, 1 bench table = 3.5 Stars Food - I ordered one of the house specialties...the Santa Fe Tuna Roll, which infuses Latin & Asian flavors & presentation. Char-Grilled Yellowfin Tuna, Black Bean Puree, Roasted Red Pepper, Spinach, Monterey Jack & Ginger Wasabi. Very good & clean. My wife ordered the Mexican Street Corn & devoured it, however the sweet corn cake was not what we were expecting with the flour-based risener (almost like pancake mix) compared to most sweet corn cakes that are cornbread-based & we did send this item back. The Wannabe margaritas were on point & the highlight of the evening. I would go back just for these.= 4 Stars Service - Our server (Liz) was friendly, knowledgable and respectful. Her frequency & attention to service was the only room for inprovement that I may say is an area of opportunity. My large cup of water went empty twice along with my wife & I's margaritas before there was acknowledgement. Follow up has always been a large factor of how well I score service & how well I tip. = 3 Stars Overall Summary. I'll come back for the food. If we could do half-stars, this place would get 3.5 for my most recent visit, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt given the circumstances. I'm pretty positive I went here at least once in college, but I can't really remember. Now that I'm visiting town again, I've been told it's the go-to spot for many, so my friend & I went in on a Monday night around 7pm. We were told there was about a 20 minute wait inside, so we opted for the outdoor seating area where we could be seated immediately. Service was quite slow from start to finish. I understand busyness, but I think those of us outside seemed to get the short end of the stick in terms of server attentiveness. My friend & I were in a bit of a rush, so it was extra frustrating when we had to wait about 15 minutes after receiving our drinks (delivered by someone else) to order food, even though we had been ready. My margarita was tasty (albeit weak) for only $3 as their Monday special. I only got the Mexican street corn to eat. The presentation could've been better, but the flavors were pretty spot-on. My friend's usual is apparently the Triple B quesadilla, and she was pleased with it this time. The salsa served with chips upon arrival is definitely some of the best I've ever had! I imagine service would've been a lot better had we sat inside or went on a different day/time. Since I only got the corn, I can't say too much either. Based on this experience alone, I probably wouldn't come back, but from what I'm told this place is consistently a favorite. read more
