Ate here for lunch with 4 adults and 4 children. Our server was very nice and the food came out quickly. I had the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and a salad. The salad was nothing special. Iceberg lettuce with a cucumber, tomato and shredded cheese. It was fresh and the tomato was ripe. The country fried steak was greasy, it could have done with a quick drain before they put it on the plate. The food came out so hot, you had to wait for it to cool down. That is never a bad thing. The kids had chicken tenders, burgers and grilled cheese. No one was complaining. One person got the seafood platter. It was giant and everything was good. The Patty Melt was also good. This is a clean little diner with a good choice of sides. Good value for the price. Give them a try if you are in OIB.

We love going to eat here. I always get the fried popcorn shrimp, or a cheeseburger. The food always seems to be really good. There's always 2 meals in one order, so, you will have lunch the next day, if you know how to eat in portions! I wanted to give this place 5 stars but the hostesses can sometimes seem to forget to bring something out, and when they do, it's wrong and have to bring out the right thing again. I'm really not one of those people that are wound so tight that I go off the deep end over small stuff like that. It can take a few minutes to get your drink, but, we're never in that much of a hurry when we go in there. The fried dill pickles are really good. They're probably the 2nd best I've ever eaten (the number one fried dill pickle being at the Pik N Pig in Carthage, NC. I've eaten that family's fried pickles since I was a small child in the 1970s). Oh yeah, Castaway Grill uses pickle chips and NOT those pickle spears. I despise going somewhere and getting excited about fried pickles being on the menu only to be served fried pickle spears! These are crispy and delicious. Dip them and ranch and Texas Pete and WOOOO WEEEE!! Prices are good, too, since you get two meals out of it!

    Fried pickles! So delicious

The food here is definitely delicious! We came here for breakfast, I ordered an omelette with potatoes. The omelette was made with real eggs, not the powdered eggs you get at most breakfast places. And it had real cheddar! Breakfast was so good we decided to come back the next day for lunch. At lunch my mom and I shared a cheese burger (made with real meat not those frozen patties) and an order of fried pickles. The Pickles! Omg the pickles were so good! We ate half the order then our burger came, when I finished I decided to try them again and they were still crispy! How is that even possible!? Also it is very reasonably priced!

This is a seat yourself style restaurant. Standard fare at a low price served in large portions and cooked well! The wait staff is very friendly and happy to help you with the menu. I got the chicken slouvaki plate that came with a Greek salad, French fries, and pita slices. It was enough food for me to easily take half to go for dinner later (I typically eat all of my food so this was BIG) and it was very tasty with all of the sauces. My friend got the chicken salad sandwich and it was standard pulled chicken salad with not too much mayo, also a lot of food and yummy.

This is a great little place for average food, nothing special. Service (wait-staff) was prompt and friendly but the wait for food (and there was only one other table seated, employees of the place, it appeared) is overly long, about 25 minutes; this was probably due to the massive number of phoned-in take-out orders stacking up on the cook. All in all, average food, prices in line for same, nothing fancy or special about it. We had: Barbecue plate with fries (not on menu) - Barbecue is, of course, pot/crockpot cooked but the sauce, made in-house, and the volume of the serving make it a great value (photo shown). Fries - The fries were served lukewarm, after a 25-minute wait, so perhaps you'll want to ask for hotter food if you visit. Calabash Shrimp (on menu) - Shrimp breading is mushy and shrimp are popcorn-sized and fragments, not the crispy medium shrimp for which this Gullah region is famous, but there were plenty of them. Fried Okra - it's the frozen kind, no seasoning of any kind, so you'll want a bit of salt Coleslaw - NO seasoning whatsoever other than mayo, no ingredients other than green cabbage. No salt, no pepper, no nothing. Dining room staff were extremely friendly, place was busy as a beehive later during our visit and apparently this place is filling a tourist-need niche here in Ocean Isle Beach. I did not try the ten-dollar Reuben (I've got to see this thing and I was tempted) but I'll probably give it a try if I visit again. Oh, and my barbecue, fries and okra were served on three plates, styrofoam, so don't expect anything fancy. I understand they're putting in beer and wine once they get their dishwasher water up to commercial standards and they have a small bar that appears as though it will seat about six folks, so you'll have that to look forward to soon.

The avocado toast, the veggie breakfast burrito, the coffee cake, the smoothies, and the iced black amber are my go to's and they never miss. The service is quick, even though I know they get crazy busy during the summer. As someone who understands service/cafe biz, I will always give leniency to workers who are busting it during high volume seasons. The people who don't understand that a wait will be expected when you have one good coffee shop on an island that hosts thousands of people every summer are dense. Be kinder to your service workers, people. The most recent time I visited Drift, I was excited to try the Acai bowl. After I ordered, I was told that unfortunately they were out of Acai. They refunded my money and I ordered a smoothie instead. I was ready to pay for my smoothie when the employee told me the smoothie was on the house since they were out of Acai. Great customer service. I've been visiting Ocean Isle since there were rinky-dink water slides in operation across from what is now Drift. It's been wonderful to see a successful, quality coffee shop on the island.

Mr. And I both ordered the market bowl. Quinoa, sweet potatoes, avocado, tomato, and a spring mix w a fried egg on top. It was beautiful! Then we bit into it. The sweet potato was barely on the brink of being frozen. The Quinoa was also cold...not just room temperature, but ice-cold! Avocado was way too cold as well. So, you can imagine what this did to the beautifully cooked egg... yep - turned it cold in a heartbeat. Really off-putting to bit into. Mr. went back inside and asked if they had a microwave to heat it up and the 'workers' just said that was they way it was supposed to be. Mr. tossed the entire thing in the trash and simply said "well, it's disgusting". You would think there would be a simple offer to heat it up, or some kind of remedy for the situation. They didn't give a crap. I'm pretty sure they flipped us the bird on the way out. Nice.

This Thursday I was heading up with the wife to buy some fish and we decided to go for it. Of course there was zero parking with a parade of cars in the parking lot waiting to pick up food, when my wife noticed a pick up truck right in front of the place about to exit. She sped right next to the spot and jumped in before anyone realized it. We're in...or so I thought. We strolled up and there were about 35 people sitting on benches and rocking chairs under a tent right in front of the place all waiting to get in. I figured this is not going to be easy. I went up to the hostess station and asked how long for a table for two and she said 35 minutes or so. I looked at my wife and gave her my name. I had to find out what all the hub bub was about. In about 30 minutes they shouted my name and I sprinted to the front door...I wasn't about to lose my table. In we went and we're shown a nice size table in the middle of the place. It kinda reminded me of a beachy mom and pop diner. The friendly waitress came to the table right away, gave us our menus, showed us the specials board and took a drink order. The menu was simple but had some choices on it. While we were thinking, she came back with our drinks and we quickly ordered an appetizer. In this case, onion rings. A few minutes later my wife settled on a crab cake app and a salad which she asked to be combined. I went for the soup of the day(NE clam chowder) and one of the specials...pork chops(I took my grilled not fried) with 3 sides, Lima beans, okra & tomatoes stewed and green beans. The meal came with a choice of cornbread or roll. I opted for the cornbread. In a flash, the onion rings came out followed by the soup. Now I do love me some onion rings and these were fantastic. Crispy, flavorful and not stringy. The soup was home made. Creamy with bits of clam and chunks of potato. No salt or pepper was needed as it came out steaming hot and perfect. It was a meal in itself and I ended up taking 3/4 home with me(something rarely do). After a few minutes, the main course came out. My wife dug into a very large homemade crab cake, chock full of crab meat and very flavorful. She loved it. The salad was fresh and crisp. My pork chops came out and the size of the plate shocked me. Now, I almost never talk about price but my plate was $12.49 and I got two large perfectly prepared, juicy pork chops with a healthy helping of the best okra and stewed tomatoes I ever had plus absolutely delicious green beans and tasty lima beans. What a deal! The only thing that wasn't above average was the corn bread which was a tad dry and plain. Most of the regulars opted for the home made roll(and the fried chicken which was being served at every table!). I was stuffed and had trouble finishing my plate. My wife who said she was full, managed to save enough room for dessert. Now everyone was eating the homemade peach cobbler so I suggested that. My wife never had it before and was thinking about the Oreo pie, but I persuaded her and she was glad I did. Instead of the usual whip cream she wanted vanilla ice cream with it and it was a fantastic combo. The cobbler came out piping hot and crumbly with sweet chunks of peaches that paired well with the cold vanilla ice cream. She attacked it so fast that I couldn't get a picture. I broke my own rules and dipped in for a few spoonfuls and I'm glad I did. It was heavenly. The bill came and I couldn't believe how reasonable it was. Now I know why you can't get into the joint. We paid our bill and gave the super friendly waitress a nice tip and were on our way. We will absolutely be back and will try to time it a bit better so we can find parking...or we'll take an Uber...it was that good.

The fried chicken is what Chic-fil-A wishes it could be. The collards and mac & cheese are both top-shelf recipes ... to the point that my 6-yo - not usually keen on either - ate more of them than his french fries (which were also good). The peach cobbler and banana pudding weren't pretentious by any means, but they were definitely elevated compared to the average blue plate sweet course. We'll be back for some fried seafood soon!

It was okay - the granola was really good but the yogurt was very sour, and the berries were a little sour too because they weren't ripe. I also ordered a side of toast and sausage links. The toast was good (I mean how can you really mess up toast?) but I do wish they offer to add butter to it so the butter has time to melt when it's warm. I don't expect that but it is a nice touch when restaurants do it! The sausage was actually really good though and was probably my favorite part of breakfast. I really wasn't sure if I should give this place 3 or 4 stars but unfortunately the service was pretty bad so I settled on 3 stars. Our server didn't refill our drinks which is unfortunate, especially because drinks have gotten pretty expensive lately. Our check was also brought out before we were finished eating. I still had half of my meal left over so I thought it was weird. I had also wanted to get coffee to go but that didn't happen since our check was brought out.
