We love Sugar Shack and make it our go to restaurant everytime we go to Ocean Isle Beach. We were just there and the food was great, but we ordered crab bites and inside of one of them was a piece of plastic. We let the waiter know so if it happened again then they may have a problem. He went and spoke to one of the owners and they had a little meeting about it. That was it, we never got an apology or any acknowledgment about this and I wouldn't touch them after that. Came here with my family and had a wonderful evening. The food was great! We got jerk chicken, jerk pork, ribs and crab fritters and everyone loved what they got. We also shared both grilled and coconut shrimp and they can't be beat. Split some mango cobbler and key lime pie for dessert. The hospitality of everyone at the restaurant made for such a fun night. Our server gave us all kinds of recommendations and made sure we had the best experience. Absolutely worth the trip. The only thing that would have made it better was if the jerk seasoning was spicy, but even that didn't take away from the visit. read more

Went in late on a Friday 8pm for a 9pm close It was busy so the service was a little slow but we weren't in a rush. Our first time eating Jamaican food. We weren't a little nervous, we ordered ribs and plantains and coconut shrimp to share. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and the sauce on the side in a large pour bottle on the table was amazing and very different than expected. The plantains were delicious my GF is of Puerto Rican discent loved them said good plantains are hard to find. The coconut shrimp was perfectly cooked and crunch the sauce was very nice. One key thing here THE FOOD IS NOT SPICY AT ALL. !!! That was our fear it's flavorful not spicy the owner said his mother couldn't handle spice and the recipes are done with that in mind. read more

My family had takeout prepared for a 70th birthday celebration. We usually go there once a summer but we had such a big group this is what we did. Literally, fall off the bone ribs, chicken wings grilled in a special marinade. Perfection! They gave us special sauces in ramekins. Food: The ribs and steak are truly their special dishes. Although their other dishes are delicious, these two entrees have that extra pizazz. I got the ribs for a second time and they were both amazing and tender both separate times. We tried some other dishes such as curried goat and brown stew chicken and they were tender and flavorful. Also, their appetizer wings are a must! Service: Servers were great from the host to our personal waiter. No complaints here. Environment: The dining area is cozy. It isn't a huge restaurant but is composed of booths and tables. I would recommend a reservation as we observed a wait outside and the restaurant becoming very occupied shortly after opening. We came in on a Friday night at 6:30. The server had an odd attitude really. He told us they were out of snapper, steak, grilled chicken, and shrimp. The only things left on the menu were jerk chicken and pork, ribs, and a chicken stew. I had a hamburger that was completely underwhelming. Large burger on a plain bun with a piece of lettuce, no fixings. The fried plantain was good. Our friends enjoyed the ribs and my husband enjoyed the stew. But nothing I had planned to order was available. Just odd to be out of a majority of the menu.
