Went in late on a Friday 8pm for a 9pm close It was busy so the service was a little slow but we weren't in a rush. Our first time eating Jamaican food. We weren't a little nervous, we ordered ribs and plantains and coconut shrimp to share. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and the sauce on the side in a large pour bottle on the table was amazing and very different than expected. The plantains were delicious my GF is of Puerto Rican discent loved them said good plantains are hard to find. The coconut shrimp was perfectly cooked and crunch the sauce was very nice. One key thing here THE FOOD IS NOT SPICY AT ALL. !!! That was our fear it's flavorful not spicy the owner said his mother couldn't handle spice and the recipes are done with that in mind. read more

Been in SC for 2 years. This place 15 minutes north of the border is some of the best food of any type we've had since we moved here. Not just the ribs, but the jerk chicken wings were fall off the bone consistency. And I'm not using that as a cliche. The wings in particular, you could pick the wing up off the plate and the meat would fall off the bone. Portions were large, the jerk sauce, sweet, so good we bought a bottle. Best jerk sauce I've ever had. It's a little on the more expensive side to go on regularly, but you get whet you pay for and what we just ate was great quality and an excellent all around meal. Came here with my family and had a wonderful evening. The food was great! We got jerk chicken, jerk pork, ribs and crab fritters and everyone loved what they got. We also shared both grilled and coconut shrimp and they can't be beat. Split some mango cobbler and key lime pie for dessert. The hospitality of everyone at the restaurant made for such a fun night. Our server gave us all kinds of recommendations and made sure we had the best experience. Absolutely worth the trip. We love Sugar Shack and make it our go to restaurant everytime we go to Ocean Isle Beach. We were just there and the food was great, but we ordered crab bites and inside of one of them was a piece of plastic. We let the waiter know so if it happened again then they may have a problem. He went and spoke to one of the owners and they had a little meeting about it. That was it, we never got an apology or any acknowledgment about this and I wouldn't touch them after that. My family had takeout prepared for a 70th birthday celebration. We usually go there once a summer but we had such a big group this is what we did. Literally, fall off the bone ribs, chicken wings grilled in a special marinade. Perfection! They gave us special sauces in ramekins. *Tourist Review* This place is such a lovely and understated establishment. This is my second time and it's consistent in service and food quality. Food: The ribs and steak are truly their special dishes. Although their other dishes are delicious, these two entrees have that extra pizazz. I got the ribs for a second time and they were both amazing and tender both separate times. We tried some other dishes such as curried goat and brown stew chicken and they were tender and flavorful. Also, their appetizer wings are a must! Service: Servers were great from the host to our personal waiter. No complaints here. Environment: The dining area is cozy. It isn't a huge restaurant but is composed of booths and tables. I would recommend a reservation as we observed a wait outside and the restaurant becoming very occupied shortly after opening. There is an outdoor waiting area where you may sit as you wait for your table. I recommend reserving and coming here for a warm hearty meal. read more
