Linda and Dave are the perfect team. Linda has absolute best skills for managing the business and Dave is the King behind the doors to the kitchen. Together they provide a 5 star experience from the time you arrive until you leave with your stomach filled to the gills with delicious fall off the bone tender as butter steaks, ribs, ox tail and chicken. Trust me you will return to this eating establishment that makes you feel at home. When I go to OIB I make several trips not just one to eat there. I only suggest one thing for you to consider as a customer and that's make your reservation a couple of weeks in advance. You can generally make a short term reservation but doing it a few weeks in advance ensures that you'll be more successful in getting the exact time you want. Lastly, make sure that you are hungry when you go there because you will be stuffed from the generous portions they give you. Yum! Heading that way again tonight. read more

Went in late on a Friday 8pm for a 9pm close It was busy so the service was a little slow but we weren't in a rush. Our first time eating Jamaican food. We weren't a little nervous, we ordered ribs and plantains and coconut shrimp to share. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and the sauce on the side in a large pour bottle on the table was amazing and very different than expected. The plantains were delicious my GF is of Puerto Rican discent loved them said good plantains are hard to find. The coconut shrimp was perfectly cooked and crunch the sauce was very nice. One key thing here THE FOOD IS NOT SPICY AT ALL. !!! That was our fear it's flavorful not spicy the owner said his mother couldn't handle spice and the recipes are done with that in mind. read more

We love Sugar Shack and make it our go to restaurant everytime we go to Ocean Isle Beach. We were just there and the food was great, but we ordered crab bites and inside of one of them was a piece of plastic. We let the waiter know so if it happened again then they may have a problem. He went and spoke to one of the owners and they had a little meeting about it. That was it, we never got an apology or any acknowledgment about this and I wouldn't touch them after that. Haven't been to sugar shack in 12 years and no clue why it took so long to go back! We started out with the sample platter. Everyone was delicious as was the complimentary Johnny bread. We dug in so fast, I didn't get pics of our entrees! Between the 4 of us we had the ribs, the marinated steak, the curry chicken and the jerk chicken. All was so good and plenty of food! My family had takeout prepared for a 70th birthday celebration. We usually go there once a summer but we had such a big group this is what we did. Literally, fall off the bone ribs, chicken wings grilled in a special marinade. Perfection! They gave us special sauces in ramekins. We can't figure out the recipe but you could definitely drink it by itself. read more

Sugar Shack is my favorite place to eat at Ocean Isle Beach. We only come once a year for our summer vacation, but I even have a favorite server who has been there year after year. In fact, I recognize a lot of the staff each year. I don't know what I do if I couldn't get, my annual fix at the Sugar shack. *Tourist Review* This place is such a lovely and understated establishment. This is my second time and it's consistent in service and food quality. Food: The ribs and steak are truly their special dishes. Although their other dishes are delicious, these two entrees have that extra pizazz. I got the ribs for a second time and they were both amazing and tender both separate times. We tried some other dishes such as curried goat and brown stew chicken and they were tender and flavorful. Also, their appetizer wings are a must! Service: Servers were great from the host to our personal waiter. No complaints here. Environment: The dining area is cozy. It isn't a huge restaurant but is composed of booths and tables. I would recommend a reservation as we observed a wait outside and the restaurant becoming very occupied shortly after opening. There is an outdoor waiting area where you may sit as you wait for your table. I recommend reserving and coming here for a warm hearty meal. read more

We came in on a Friday night at 6:30. The server had an odd attitude really. He told us they were out of snapper, steak, grilled chicken, and shrimp. The only things left on the menu were jerk chicken and pork, ribs, and a chicken stew. I had a hamburger that was completely underwhelming. Large burger on a plain bun with a piece of lettuce, no fixings. The fried plantain was good. Our friends enjoyed the ribs and my husband enjoyed the stew. But nothing I had planned to order was available. Just odd to be out of a majority of the menu. No one seemed to care about that, and the hostess made a wierd comment about the fact that I asked to be seated in a quieter area so we could hear each other talk. Won't be back. read more

Each year while at the beach we make sure we stop here for at least 1 meal. The food does not disappoint! The best steak and rice you'll ever have! The jerk sauce is so good too, we always buy a bottle to take home. The service is always great, fast and polite. They love telling the story over how the restaurant got started. Do not go here! First we arrived with 22 people instead of our reservation of 25. We tried to call to let them know we had less people, but they did not open until five.The hostess was very rude and said they turned away people to seat our party. Did I mention we had to put down a deposit for the reservation? Honestly should've just left then. Then they had no chicken tenders for my son. They also serve no liquor. My other son was super excited to try their steak and we were the first party in the restaurant. After two people ordered steak they said they were out. We also wanted bread and they told us they were running low and could not give us any more. Honestly, I have been to countless restaurants in my life, and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. Everyone was just super rude especially the hostess.
