Hey family! I've been gatekeeping for a while and then again if you know you know. I've been to the Waterfront Seafood Shack a few times since I discovered it on my annual Thanksgiving beach trip a few years ago. I absolutely love this place and is one of my favorite places to stop before I head to Myrtle Beach. It's located in Calabash, NC so it's like 10 minutes before you get to the SC boarder. It might be shorter than that. But anyway, I love coming here obviously the food is fresh and fantastic. They have plenty of outdoor seating and it's always nice and clean. The staff is wonderful. I love that every time I've come, I'm always greeted with a warm welcome and a smile. Everything that I've tried has been great. And they have lots of options. Check out my pics and I'm a creature of habit so I got the same thing but one thing I did try was the Wahoo fish. It was perfect and I'd never had it before. I can see this easily being a fan favorite. And lastly the dessert. I highly recommend getting the fried pound cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It's heavenly. Although, not pictured, they have a great pumpkin pie. Follow their Instagram for updates because they do close down I want to say the Thanksgiving day up until Spring so about March or April. This place you want to go for the atmosphere and not the food. As the name of the place suggest, it is truly a shack, where you go in and order at the counter, find a seat, and the food comes out to you. The menu is extensive, and there is likely something for everyone, even if you are not a lover of seafood. We sat at a wooden bench set facing the boats and water where we can enjoy the birds and a little bit of water view between the fishing boats. The wife and I ordered the same combination dish of Scallops and oysters. The wife's Oysters seemed a bit under cooked. The Scallops were cooked nice, but the fried breading did not stick to the meat. The wife had fries, while I had onion rings. Although both the fries and rings appeared to be frozen, they were both cooked nicely, and were pretty good. The slaw was nice and creamy, but the Hush Puppies were small and fried a bit anemic and looked nothing like the pictures we saw from other posters. We also ordered and split the soft-shell platter. Unfortunately, the Soft shell tasted rancid, which is kind of my fault for ordering something that is not in season. Although if it is going to be this gross, they should not be serving it. We really wanted to love this place, but just didn't. read more

This place is a gem. Recently had a family trip to North Myrtle. Made the 25-30 minute drive here twice during our stay and it was definitely worth it. Shrimp are unbelievable. Both the friend and the peel and eat. Definitely reason enough to come here, but there's so much more. Loved all the fried fish and oysters we tried. The hush puppies were awesome. We also enjoyed the onion rings and the sweet potato fries with the honey butter from the hush puppies. Yum. The only thing that wasn't for me was the coleslaw. It's just a different take on it, which I'm fairly confident contains nutmeg. Other than the shrimp, the other must try item here is definitely the grilled pound cake with ice cream. Such a perfect way to end your meal. Gotta try it. Other than the food, the service was pretty quick and easy. Shack on the left takes your order, shack on the right makes it and has it ready for pick up. They have a good variety of drink options for those eating there. There's tables with umbrellas out front but you can also eat right on the deck above the boats. If you're in the area or within 45 minutes, I'd say make the trip. read more

So far so good! Walk past Capt. Nance's and The Oyster House and the Oyster Pit and continue toward where the "High Roller" is docked and you will find the Seafood Shack. Aged dock overlooking the boats and marsh!! My kind of place! Ordered 1lb. Of Carolina Peel and Eat Shrimp, hush puppies and fries to snack on to start. Split 5 ways was a good appetizer. Ordered sandwiches (2 Mahi Mahi, and a blackened snapper and a WV hot dog) with cuke salad for a side. Great music on the dock BTW! 60's/70's rock vibe. CCR, Beatles, etc. The rest of our meal was tasty although my snapper sandwich was definitely not adequate in portion size. Honestly I should have sent it back but I ate in and shared my wife's pasta salad. Great place to take in the sights. read more

Great place to run and get a quick bit to eat. While I was there I ordered the grouper sandwich which was absolutely delicious. It was cooked prefect with the just the right amount of seasoning on it. Always ordered the little neck clams which had a great taste and also came out very clean. All sitting is outside, but you sit right where the boat comes in. You can't get any fresher than that. I would highly recommend the Waterfront Seafood Shack to anyone. read more

They're open for the season! I recommend this spot if you're visiting Myrtle Beach. I loved their Fish Basket served with Fries and Homemade Pound Cake with Butter Pecan ice cream. The dessert was pricey for the quantity served but tasted really delicious. I was told that the fish was practically caught either earlier on the same day or the previous night. How cool is that! Ambience is super casual and service was fast although it was raining like crazy when I visited them. They have plenty of seating both in front of the shack and at the back near the boats. If not for the rainy weather, I'd have definitely enjoyed my meal gazing at the river and the boats. The 2 girls who took and served my order were very polite. Parking can be difficult to find at times when the area is crowded but not impossible to find. read more

First timer here. The restaurant is literally a shack with amazing view of calabash river. It's only outdoor sitting (as pictured). I started off with Kona big wave beer. Then I ordered the calamari appetizer. Calamari had great breading very fresh. For the main course I ordered the deluxe plate of shrimp, oysters, and scallops. You have 3 options on how you want them cooked . Blackened, fried, and grilled. With the scallops and shrimp we got them grilled and with oyster we had them fried . Everything was fresh and cook perfectly. My favorite was the fried oysters. Had great taste . Shrimp and scallops were good also but it was a little on the small side. The staff were great and very helpful we had with the menu. You go inside the shack order your food then you go find seat then they will bring the food out for you. There is so much I would've like to try here like the grouper sandwich. Definitely will be back to try more off the menu . read more

This place is exactly what the name says it is...a shack...or three. The first shack you will stand in line outside by a huge speaker playing extremely loud music to where you can't talk to your party about what you're ordering, this is the ordering shack. It's a small room with a drink cooler, couple registers, and the soda fountain which is behind the counter...I hate that...such a bad setup. Ordering is kind of slow especially if there's a line but it's not bad. When you order they will give you a pager and tell you to pick up your food at the kitchen shack. If you need a refill, you will need to stand in the long line and wait for someone to be free to help you. The bathroom is across the parking lot in another building. It's a shared bathroom men/women and there was absolutely no soap. The "dining areas" are in front of and behind the ordering shack. The best spots are behind where you can sit waterfront and eat. They leave out tarter, cocktail, and ketchup at every table...not sure how good that is for the tartar sauce to sit in the sun but nobody got sick. It was extremely windy so everything would blow around...might be a good idea to put up some tables with a wind block. Because of this there was a ton of trash everywhere on the ground and in the ocean, napkins, styrofoam cups and containers, the plastic from the utensils. Seriously, they should consider getting rid of styrofoam especially since a lot of it is ending up in the ocean. Paper would be 1000 times better. The food was just okay, nothing to write home about. Portions were a bit small. My girlfriend is gluten-free and they had zero clue what that meant and didn't try to accommodate her in the least bit so if you're sensitive with this allergy stay away. She wanted to get some fish on a salad and they wouldn't do it, so she had to order a fish sandwich without the sandwich, and then the salad separately. I understand the solid reviews on Yelp and other sites for this seafood shack. The fish is caught literally from the local fisherman so it doesn't get any fresher. I tried the grouper sandwich with fries and this was light and flaky - just perfect! I enjoyed my fish sandwich. I plan on returning soon to try the shrimp. They have lots of seating outside and between the cool breeze and sunshine it's a lovely place for lunch. We enjoyed sitting outside and watching the boats and river. read more

Great service, good food, neat location. This waterfront shack offers outdoor seating with views of the Calabash River. Everything we had was yummy. I would suggest a slightly bigger crabcake that at is the same size as the bun. The best part of the experience was the speed of service. read more

I happened to see this little shack and was very intrigued by the colorful outlook when i first approached! I ordered the shrimp basket with HP for no extra charge! We have been coming here for 11 years and have always had great food and service. However, today we ordered online (for the first time) and the order was supposed to be ready at 5:45 pm. The order status online showed the order had been received and was completed at 5:45. When we arrived at 5:45, they told us the order was coming. We didn't get it until 6:25. One of our grouper entrees had only 6 french fries. The soft shell crab entree (which we always order) was overcooked and tasted liked it was cooked in old oil. The best tasting item was the coleslaw. This is the first time we were disappointed by the meal and service. Not sure if we will continue to recommend this place or return. read more

Located between two larger restaurants, parking is somewhat erratic. It's pretty much find a spot anywhere in the gravel lot. I didn't notice any handicapped spaces. Walking is mostly easy on the gravel. There are actually two "shacks". You place your order inside the one on the left and pick up your food from the one on the right. The two workers taking the orders were very friendly and efficient. You also get your drinks from them. Seating is all outdoors with picnic or round tables in front or on a dock in the rear. All tables have umbrellas to provide shade. Be prepared for lots of birds to accompany you while you eat. You get a pager to let you know when your food is ready. Ours went off maybe 15 minutes after ordering. The shack on the right has a window on the side where you pick up your food. My blackened grouper sandwich was very disappointing. One paper thin strip of fish only half as wide as the hoagie bun it was on. The flavor of the fish was lost to the bun and lettuce. The sandwich needed at least one more piece of fish just to be able to taste it. The cole slaw was average at best. The fries were quite good and plentiful. The fried fish plate was decent but light on the fish. My dining companion was still hungry after finishing everything, as was I. I did hear the hush puppies were excellent. The service was very good. The sides were at least decent. Unfortunately the fish, the main reason for stopping here, was very skimpy. read more

This spot is all outdoors, with the option to sit at picnic tables or eat on the railing of the dock. I definitely recommend the dock! It's a beautiful view, and you'll get a nice breeze off the water. I got a perfect southern beach lunch of peel-and-eat shrimp, hush puppies, and sweet tea. All of it was amazing! The shrimp were generously seasoned, and the cocktail sauce had an excellent strong horseradish kick to it. The hush puppies were perfect, even without the honey butter our server gave me. We really loved how easy it was to eat here! We weren't super hungry and this was a great spot for a laid back dinner. We got the blackened grouper sandwich, fries, corn and a side of hush puppies. It wasn't a huge sandwich but it was very good; served on a hamburger bun with lettuce and tomato. We grabbed a seat on the water and that just added beauty to this chill evening out. We will go back and try the scallops and crab cake that was recommended by the host.
