EXCELLENT! We both got the $13.00 Shrimp special. At least 1/2 pound of Calabash shrimp, hush puppies, fries, Cole slaw, honey butter, tartar sauce, cocktail sauce and a soda. Tasty, well prepared food at a great price. The staff is friendly and efficient. Plenty of seating outside, but inside there are maybe only a dozen tables.

Calabash shrimp

Very yummy calabash shrimp! Great homemade slaw and cinnamon butter for the doughnut holes.

You can tell it was a family-owned restaurant and I love it. Everybody was very attentive and friendly. The food was very tasty; everything is made to order and the price was right for the location. The cozy atmosphere made it feel like home, . Each dish was infused with a sense of love ,As I savored my meal, I couldn't help but appreciate the passion that went into every bite. I left feeling satisfied, eager to return and explore more of their delightful menu.

Senior Platter with fried flounder.

This morning I saw a post about Bennett's, on Facebook, and the thing that caught my eye was the pictures of the food. It actually looked fresh. Unlike a lot of the restaurants here at the beach, their Seafood and burgers all look like they were locally sourced and very fresh. So we decided to take a road trip and head up to Calabash, North Carolina and give Bennett's a try. A little over an hour in traffic, and we arrived at this little gem that is tucked between stores on the main Highway through Calabash. There was a line waiting to order but it moved very quickly. I was very impressed with the activity in the little Kitchen, right behind the counter, where most of the meals were being prepared. Everybody seemed to know their job as they together worked at the grill, bringing out dishes, making french fries or bringing food to the tables that had been ordered by their customers. They have a wonderful menu and the best part is they have "senior platters" for those of us that are over 65. The senior platters include one or two pieces of fish, fried shrimp, crab cake, or deviled crab. It also includes a fountain drink, hush puppies with honey butter, incredible french fries, tartar sauce and Carolina style coleslaw. We both chose the fried flounder on the senior platter and settled in to table and waited for our number to be called. This is not fast food and each piece of fish isn't fried until it is ordered, so it comes to you piping hot. We only waited about 10 minutes and when our number was called and one of the ladies brought our lunch, in baskets, to us at the table. There is plenty of seating inside and there are tables outside, under an awning, or you could order from the window and eat in your car if you chose. We sat inside and watched the hustle bustle in the kitchen. The quality of the food is top notch. Everyone talks about Calabash fried fish and we have had it at several different restaurants here but this was, by far, the best fried flounder, french fries and even the coleslaw, that we have found anywhere here in the Myrtle Beach area. The folks that work at Bennett's make you feel like you're a regular. Even during the busiest part of the lunch rush they take time to smile and greet you warmly. We were both impressed with the speed of service, quality of the food and the atmosphere in this hustle bustle little restaurant. I will say that Joy told me that this was the best coleslaw she'd ever had. All this time I thought mine was the best, but this is truly excellent Carolina coleslaw with vinegar and sugar and it goes so well with their fish. We'll go back but the next time we'll try their onion rings and their incredible looking burgers and I have to have their fried shrimp. If you're looking for something different and you like to travel North from Myrtle Beach I highly recommend Bennett's Grill and Cafe.

Typical small town burger joint nothing bad but nothing amazing. Bennett's bbq is far better than Smithfield's up the way in Shallotte and better than any bbq in the MB area. Their fried flounder isn't bad either it's actually better than a great deal of the fried fish options at other calabash seafood restaurants that float on tradition. My biggest complaint at current would be my preference for more option of sides for bbq and/or the fried fish beyond fried sides.

We were driving thru Calabash area on road trip and came across this location. They have lots of outdoor seating under shade which was good as wer had our small dog traveling with us. You place your order indoors at counter and staff brings it to you. Pour your own drink and acquire the proper plastic dining ware. We ordered a combination platter of Shrimp, Clams, and Flounder which came with tartar and cocktail sauce. The portions were enough for two at lunch time. Good parking on premises, nice staff, good value for money.

Even on a cold windy February Saturday the place was full of tourists. It's clear Bennett's has pull and they've earned that reputation. There's an outside order window that had a line, but there's also some indoor dining space. We were lucky to find a space inside and placed our order. If I could do it again I'd go for the burgers and hotdogs. After ordering my shrimp burger I started seeing those dogs and burgers and immediately regretted my decision. Those things looked awesome. The shrimp burger was good. Basically griddle cooked shrimps on a white bun. For a side I ventured into the deviled crab. The heck is a deviled crab? See pictures. It was good! Certainly not filling, but team it up with fries and you're set. The fries were awesome. Crispy crunchy and full of fried flavor.

My sister's friend recommended us visit Calabash while we were staying in Myrtle Beach for some fresh seafood. We ended up finding Bennett's Grill on Yelp and had to make a stop. We had two dogs in tow and there was plenty of outdoor seating. However, it was so chilly out (it was Christmas 2020) that we ventured inside (sans dogs) after placing our order at the outdoor order window. Everyone inside was super welcoming and friendly. We easily transitioned our order indoors and also redeemed our free cinnamon sugar hush puppies with Yelp check-in promo. They came right out of the fryer then coated in cinnamon sugar and omg you MUST try them. I ordered the Calabash Burger, which is essentially a crab cake sandwich topped with fried shrimp, cole slaw and tartar. For 9.95, I got the Calabash Burger special, so it also came with fries and a fountain drink. I also couldn't resist an order of fried oysters. Everything was super fresh and tasty! Our entire seafood lunch was $70 after tax for 5 people which I thought was a STEAL. I highly recommend Bennett's if you're visiting the Myrtle Beach or the Calabash area!

I had never been, but my friend spoke of it with near reverence, describing a once-legendary roadside joint steeped in South Carolina barbecue tradition. And that tradition matters. In South Carolina, barbecue isn't just food--it's history. Proper whole-hog or pulled pork is defined by slow cooking over hardwood coals--hickory or oak--for upwards of 8 to 12 hours. The state proudly claims all four major regional sauce styles, from the iconic mustard-based "Carolina Gold" to vinegar, light tomato, and heavy tomato sauces. It's a place where technique and patience are inseparable from authenticity. Old South still looks the part. The atmosphere is classic and charming: a casual, no-frills roadside spot with a nostalgic 1950s picnic scene, complete with indoor seating and outdoor tables. It's family-friendly, dog-friendly, and on the surface, exactly the kind of place you want to love. The menu hits all the expected notes--pulled pork, baby back ribs, chicken--and the house-made sauces are genuinely enjoyable. But then the food arrives. The wings, ribs, and pulled pork were all missing the one thing that defines barbecue: smoke. Not subtle smoke--none. It tasted as though everything had been cooked in a gas oven. Yes, the food was tender and even flavorful in places, but without that slow-smoked backbone, it feels hollow. If smoke isn't part of the process, can it really be called barbecue? Curious--and increasingly skeptical--we walked over to the smokehouse. It looked abandoned. No lingering wood aroma, no signs of recent use, not even a stray log in sight. When I asked our server about the pitmaster, she casually mentioned he usually comes in around 4 p.m.--a surprising detail, considering authentic barbecue is an all-day (and often all-night) process. At that point, the analogy felt unavoidable: if you put a Hyundai engine in a Porsche 911, is it still a Porsche? My friend and I left with the same conclusion--Old South BBQ may still carry the name and the look, but it's lost its soul. The bones of something great are still there, but without the craft and care that once defined it, it feels like a tribute rather than the real thing. To be fair, our server was friendly and attentive, and that effort didn't go unnoticed. But good service can't replace what's missing from the pit. For a place once remembered as a cornerstone of South Carolina barbecue, that's a tough rib to swallow.

We've come here every single year for his birthday, and it has become a very special tradition for our family. The setting never disappoints -- the restaurant sits right on the marsh and the views are absolutely beautiful. With the sunny weather and peaceful scenery, it made for the perfect backdrop to celebrate. We started with several appetizers including the Scooby Snacks, Boom Boom Shrimp, hummus, and the Board Meeting. Every single one was exceptional and truly exceeded our expectations. For entrées, our table enjoyed the filet mignon, fresh sea bass, a cheeseburger, and the fried flounder -- all cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. There was also live music by Johnny White, which added such a nice touch to the atmosphere and fit perfectly with the beautiful setting. But the real star of the evening was our waiter, Luciano. He was one of the most incredible servers we've ever had here. At one point my son accidentally spilled cocktail sauce on his shirt, Luciano didn't skip a beat He immediately stepped in to help clean things up, brought hot towels, and even brought club soda to help remove the stain from my son's shirt. He handled everything with kindness, professionalism, and genuine care. He also helped us celebrate in singing Happy Birthday to my son and even included a candle in his birthday pie. Luciano was attentive, compassionate, and truly the ideal waiter. He left us with a lasting impression and made an already special birthday celebration absolutely perfect. We look forward to continuing our yearly tradition at The Oyster Rock and hope to see Luciano again next year!
