I had lunch with a friend, and he ordered the chicken and BBQ plate. It is an item I have never ordered but may in the future. Seeing is believing. You can choose white meat, dark meat, or strips. This plate is loaded with excellent food. The strips were the size of small breasts. The food was exceptional; the BBQ is always consistent and really good no matter which location you visit. I had a basic BBQ plate with two sides of slaw. It's my way of eating the sandwich without the bun. It's my go-to, and it never disappoints. Maybe the best hushpuppies you will ever try. The staff who work there are exceptional. Just really good, down-to-earth people. They will come to your table to clear plates and provide refills. This restaurant has really good leadership that carries through to the customer experience. For a casual dining experience, you would be hard-pressed to find a better alternative. Fast food in a relaxed environment. read more

Right off of highway 17 with lots of parking and a drive thru if needed. There's inside seating and outdoor. Super clean and well ran restaurant. You will. E greeted immediately by a super friendly cashier. They are very patient and helpful. There are food runners and they also make sure that your drink is never empty when you dine in! Constantly walking around making sure you that you have all you need. You can tell that these employees enjoy their job and that it's a pleasant work environment. Everyone is happy! Do not leave without the BBQ to go! Take one home. It is vinegar based and absolutely delicious. Tender and great flavor. We grabbed a pint to go. They have lots of their menu items to go. They all offer meals that feed large crowds. Lots of options of need catering. We did order a BBQ sandwich with no bun that came with coleslaw. Also had a BBQ platter that came with coleslaw, potato salad, and hush puppies. All so good. Put the slaw on top of the BBQ! This is a local restaurant as it's only in NC. It is well worth the trip to swing by and grab some good food served with a smile! Your tastebuds will thank you!!! read more

Though we live over 1,200 miles away, we found ourselves back in Brunswick County twice this July (2025)--once for the 4th of July celebrations and again for business. On both trips, Smithfield's was a must-stop, and it did not disappoint. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, but what truly sets this place apart is the outstanding customer service. The team here goes above and beyond, offering attention to detail and genuine hospitality that rivals (and often surpasses) what I've experienced in many high-end dining establishments. It's clear that Smithfield's is exceptionally well-managed. Whether you're stopping in straight from the local beach in flip-flops or coming from church dressed for Sunday best, it's the perfect spot for a casual, family-friendly dining experience. Great job, Smithfield's team--you've created something special, and it keeps us coming back every time we're in town! read more

My husband ordered food from here. He got two dinners for a discounted price which was an amazing Deal and they give huge portions. He got one pulled pork and the other dinner was fried chicken. He enjoyed the pulled pork and it comes with potato salad and hush puppies and cole slaw. I'm not a fan of pulled pork or fried chicken but he raved about both. Both were fresh and high quality huge portions. I never had hush puppies I'm from Connecticut but let me say they were really good. And the cole slaw was also good. I'm picky with cold slaw and it tastes home made. And the potato salad was bomb. It tastes like Amish potato salad and I enjoyed the flavor. I would recommend this restaurant for good bbq and they have amazing deals . 4 stars. read more

Very clean inside. Food was fresh. Everyone was so friendly. We definitely will be back! By the way the Christmas decor was such a nice touch. They really went out of the way. Every table had a tree! read more

Local only to North Carolina, so we couldn't ignore it and pass it by. That'd be rude, hm. I'm kinda gutted that we didn't try that Brunswick Stew, or anything bbq here... but the fried chicken though! granules of crispiness coating them and absolutely moist chicken thighs. These bites of savoury pieces that would literally gladden one's belly. The shrimps were alright, smallish and lightly breaded and choice side of hush puppies. They were everywhere here. I've never met one before. And oh yes, the sweet Iced tea!! You know they make it so good here, just addictive. See you next summer? read more

On Sunday June 28th, 2026, we celebrated the 250th anniversary of the birth of America. We had a wonderful event at the Brunswick Beaches Campground with 35 of our family and friends in attendance. We ordered all our food from Smithfield Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q in Shallotte, NC. The food was prepared wonderfully and ready for us to pick-up. It was absolutely delicious! The Folks at Smithfield could not have been nicer and very helpful. Our guests LOVED the food, and many came back to the serving line several times. We had plenty of food for everyone. Our guests wanted to know where we got such delicious food and were delighted that it was available so close by. Thank you all for making our celebration such a hit. read more

Typical Smithfield's, as usual chicken was delicious and the customer service was awesome.

I always enjoy Smithfield's. Today's visit was no different. We stopped in after we arrived in OIB for a long weekend. The employees were friendly today. The cashier was nice and another employee was tiding up the dining area. Our orders were correct and the food was hot and fresh. My barbecue sandwich was really good. I got a side of Brunswick stew to go with it. The stew was also good. The thin cut french fries are always a hit. The dining area was clean. The restroom was clean. They have a sanitation grade of 98.0 posted! The feature at Smithfield's that I especially like is the hand washing sink located in the dining room. I wish more restaurants had this feature. read more

consistently good flavor and quality. Very good hush puppies. My go to bbq in Shallotte nc.

The chicken, slaw, hush puppies and bbq tasted so fresh and delicious. Thanks for the great food and service!

Great and inexpensive Sammie's. Clean and friendly. For fast food it's a great place to stop

Not what we consider good bbq chicken as the chicken was drenched in a vinegar bbq sauce. However, the servers were extremely nice and asked if we wanted refills on our drinks and even picked up plates while we were still seated. read more

Outstanding customer service. Extremely friendly. Even asking twice if we needed a refill. My husband ordered the dark meat chicken and bbq plate. I ordered the shrimp plate with two sides. The slaw was extremely wet and had too much pickle. Loved the shoe string fries - just had to add salt. The shrimp were extremely hot (fresh) and a touch salty but I appreciated thst they were seasoned. I ate the chicken leg. It had great flavor. The hush puppies are a nice touch. My husband enjoyed his chicken thigh and bbq. They were both juicy. read more

ALWAYS a winner for BBQ and I'm very surprised I still feel that way as I typically don't favor or lean towards chain restaurants but Smithfield's is consistent from store to store and they have Eastern Carolina vinegar sauce down to perfection. I really want to try the chicken but I can never pull myself away from the BBQ. I recently decided I like Brunswick Stew so I've been trying it where ever I can and so far Smithfield's Brunswick stew is the best I tried and it's going to hard to beat. read more

Food was fantastic and customer service was even better, wish I got the name of the guy working the register. I will be coming back.

Cannot go wrong at Smithfield's never had a bad experience chicken and bbq fantastic! Always friendly service

The bbq was good but the French fries weren't cooked nearly long enough, and the coleslaw was the absolute worst I've ever eaten. It had large chunks of TOUGH cabbage that I had to spit out. With the prices of inflation and fast food being one,, you would think Smithfield would want to do better to keep customers, but apparently not. read more

Oh man was I craving this. Last time I was in the area about 4 years ago we tried NC vinegar-y BBQ and I was hooked. So when we came back to Wilmington visiting family, I couldn't wait to get my Smithfield's fix. Was not disappointed. Those vinegary pulled pork BBQ sandwiches are just delicious, especially with that little crunch of cole slaw in there under the bun too. I'm up to three sandwiches so far this week. Also the hush puppies here are really tasty- they're crispy with that hint of sweetness, they're the only hush puppies my wife will eat. This location outside Shalotte was clean, fast, with a friendly staff and great food. Do stop in. I just hope I stumble upon another location on the way back to Pennsylvania! read more

I've given this location multiple tries but it keeps getting worse. They get orders wrong, no one helps each other out, and wait times can become ridiculous. Yesterday, I waited at the counter for a refill and the girl at the register just looked at me multiple times and ignored me. She was literally getting other drinks 4' away from me and filled 6 drinks and just left me standing there. Other workers just looked at me standing there and ignored me. My wife was just watching this all happen in disbelief. Do yourself a favor and drive up to the Leland location. read more

Fries were barely cooked. I asked for crispy fries, chicken breast was rather small for the price of the meal. SAD VERY SAD.

We always stop for lunch here coming or leaving ocean Isle beach. It's our tradition! (And pick up dinner for our crowd at the beach usually once as well, the family meal is a ton of food for the money, and everyone likes it). Food is always yummy, but service is outstanding. Both Jessica and Ashley helped us today and as always, werefriendly, helpful and we waited for nothing. Thanks everyone! read more

We do enjoy the food at Smithfield's, My Sister loves the barbecue. But today we stopped by and ordered A Barbecue Plate and 2 Shrimp plates with slaw And French fries. The shrimp plates only had about a tablespoon of slaw and not a lot of shrimp. And when we got home we did not have any Tartar sauce, ketchup or any sauce for the Barbecue. Never did ask us if we wanted any. I was not going to drive back to Shallotte to Get and . I think they should have ask us if We wanted any sauces. read more

Fast casual chain BBQ that gets the job done...drive through too. They didn't get my DoorDash order in advance rod my arrival, but had a to go order packed super fast! I'm a sucker for these kind of cylindrical hushpuppies you get across North Carolina, but the start of the show here was the fried chicken. Kudos for offering a combo platter to get the best of both. Disappointed that their sauces were simply mass market packaged, but this scratched an itch between seafood dinners while on a week's vacation at Ocean Isle Beach. Seriously high ceilings and friendly staff. Great safety standards amidst COVID. Look this place up for dine in or to bring home a quick and easy meal. read more

I truly experience better service at the Smithfield's drive-thru than I do anywhere else in the county even at a casual dining restaurant where I go in to be seated. It blew my mind honestly and not one food item was wrong nor was I displeased with. Nearly anytime me and my family get carry-out or dine-in anywhere around here there's a problem (wether it be service or food related) but Smithfield's has surprised me to the point of leaving a review, so thank you. read more

Good NC style pork BBQ large portions great slaw. Fried Chicken is crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

My goodness, what has happened to good ol' Smithfield's? First, we were surprised that there were only a couple of cars in the lot at dinner time. We went in and felt like we were in a ghost town, it was so dead. We ordered our food and of course asked for Red Sauce and we were told they had none. Wait, what? You don't have your signature sauce? I asked, "Why don't you open one of those bottles you have for sale and serve that?" I was met with a blank stare from the cashier. We sat down and when I got my food I was shocked at the size of the pieces, it looked like they were from a toy set, so tiny. The leg was literally two bites. The thigh was equally small. Then I took a bite of the usually good Brunswick stew and was met with a piece of meat, at least I think it was meat, that was so tough it was like chewing jerky. Now what, do I chew on or spit out the mess in my mouth? I feel so disappointed, traumatized, and ripped off by this entire episode. I need to go take a long hot shower and cry myself to sleep. read more

Good BBQ for the area. Being from BBQ country in North Carolina, LEXINGTON, I have eaten and cooked a lot of BBQ and with that being said, Smithfield's is good BBQ but it won't meet your expectations if you're craving traditional Lexington BBQ. Still it's a local favorite and they supper the community with car shows and events. Would recommend to those passing through looking for some chicken or BBQ. read more

"Bar-B-Q" means pulled pork, not chicken. The pork had a strange taste that's tough to describe. It was surprisingly spicy, but again just an odd taste. My husband didn't take but a single bite of it. I tried it and it was gross. My fried chicken was good, but nothing special. Tasted like most other fried chicken. Potato salad and cole slaw were without complaint. Biggest complaint was the wait. 21 minutes went by so we asked if they could check on our order. The gal goes and asked her coworkers, then someone hands her our bag of food. Instead of bringing it to us, she stands there swinging the bag back and forth as she chats with another worker. We finally walked up and asked her if that was our food. She confirmed it was, so we asked for the bag and left. Terrible service, mediocre food overall. We wouldn't go back if we come across another Smithfield's. read more
