My husband ordered food from here. He got two dinners for a discounted price which was an amazing Deal and they give huge portions. He got one pulled pork and the other dinner was fried chicken. He enjoyed the pulled pork and it comes with potato salad and hush puppies and cole slaw. I'm not a fan of pulled pork or fried chicken but he raved about both. Both were fresh and high quality huge portions. I never had hush puppies I'm from Connecticut but let me say they were really good. And the cole slaw was also good. I'm picky with cold slaw and it tastes home made. And the potato salad was bomb. It tastes like Amish potato salad and I enjoyed the flavor. On Sunday June 28th, 2026, we celebrated the 250th anniversary of the birth of America. We had a wonderful event at the Brunswick Beaches Campground with 35 of our family and friends in attendance. We ordered all our food from Smithfield Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q in Shallotte, NC. The food was prepared wonderfully and ready for us to pick-up. It was absolutely delicious! The Folks at Smithfield could not have been nicer and very helpful. Our guests LOVED the food, and many came back to the serving line several times. We had plenty of food for everyone. Local only to North Carolina, so we couldn't ignore it and pass it by. That'd be rude, hm. I'm kinda gutted that we didn't try that Brunswick Stew, or anything bbq here... but the fried chicken though! granules of crispiness coating them and absolutely moist chicken thighs. These bites of savoury pieces that would literally gladden one's belly. The shrimps were alright, smallish and lightly breaded and choice side of hush puppies. They were everywhere here. I always enjoy Smithfield's. Today's visit was no different. We stopped in after we arrived in OIB for a long weekend. The employees were friendly today. The cashier was nice and another employee was tiding up the dining area. Our orders were correct and the food was hot and fresh. My barbecue sandwich was really good. I got a side of Brunswick stew to go with it. The stew was also good. The thin cut french fries are always a hit. The dining area was clean. The restroom was clean. They have a sanitation grade of 98.0 posted! The feature at Smithfield's that I especially like is the hand washing sink located in the dining room. I wish more restaurants had this feature. read more

ALWAYS a winner for BBQ and I'm very surprised I still feel that way as I typically don't favor or lean towards chain restaurants but Smithfield's is consistent from store to store and they have Eastern Carolina vinegar sauce down to perfection. I really want to try the chicken but I can never pull myself away from the BBQ. The bbq was good but the French fries weren't cooked nearly long enough, and the coleslaw was the absolute worst I've ever eaten. It had large chunks of TOUGH cabbage that I had to spit out. Oh man was I craving this. Last time I was in the area about 4 years ago we tried NC vinegar-y BBQ and I was hooked. So when we came back to Wilmington visiting family, I couldn't wait to get my Smithfield's fix. Was not disappointed. Those vinegary pulled pork BBQ sandwiches are just delicious, especially with that little crunch of cole slaw in there under the bun too. I'm up to three sandwiches so far this week. Also the hush puppies here are really tasty- they're crispy with that hint of sweetness, they're the only hush puppies my wife will eat. She was literally getting other drinks 4' away from me and filled 6 drinks and just left me standing there. Other workers just looked at me standing there and ignored me. We do enjoy the food at Smithfield's, My Sister loves the barbecue. But today we stopped by and ordered A Barbecue Plate and 2 Shrimp plates with slaw And French fries. The shrimp plates only had about a tablespoon of slaw and not a lot of shrimp. And when we got home we did not have any Tartar sauce, ketchup or any sauce for the Barbecue. You don't have your signature sauce? I asked, "Why don't you open one of those bottles you have for sale and serve that?" I was met with a blank stare from the cashier. We sat down and when I got my food I was shocked at the size of the pieces, it looked like they were from a toy set, so tiny. The leg was literally two bites. The thigh was equally small. Then I took a bite of the usually good Brunswick stew and was met with a piece of meat, at least I think it was meat, that was so tough it was like chewing jerky. Now what, do I chew on or spit out the mess in my mouth? I feel so disappointed, traumatized, and ripped off by this entire episode. "Bar-B-Q" means pulled pork, not chicken. The pork had a strange taste that's tough to describe. It was surprisingly spicy, but again just an odd taste. My husband didn't take but a single bite of it. I tried it and it was gross. My fried chicken was good, but nothing special. Tasted like most other fried chicken. Potato salad and cole slaw were without complaint. Biggest complaint was the wait. 21 minutes went by so we asked if they could check on our order. The gal goes and asked her coworkers, then someone hands her our bag of food. Instead of bringing it to us, she stands there swinging the bag back and forth as she chats with another worker. We finally walked up and asked her if that was our food. She confirmed it was, so we asked for the bag and left. Terrible service, mediocre food overall.
