Beck's, a place we've frequented for years, has recently been a letdown. The two star review is actually this high based on past positive experiences. This one would be a 1 at best. Our last visit was decent, so we decided to give it another shot. However, tonight's experience was a complete disaster. We were seated promptly, but our server seemed annoyed that he had to wait on us and rushed us through the ordering process. He was rude and abrasive. We ordered flounder, and it was a complete disappointment. It arrived barely warm, tough, and dry. The most disheartening part was that most of it was nothing more than fried skin with little to no fish inside. We considered asking for a replacement, but our waiter never returned to our table again until he brought the check. He simply laid it on our table and said, "Pay up front." When I went to pay, the person behind the counter, who I assume was one of the owners, was lounging in his chair with his feet up, engrossed in his cell phone. He took the bill, rang it up, and said, "Tap or insert." Then he went back to his personal call. I understand that it's a family-owned restaurant, and the owners can do whatever they want. However, with the start of tourist season, they don't have to provide any customer service or care about the quality of their food. They'll still make a killing. While I know I won't be missed, I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. There are too many other options available. See the photo for a visual representation of the poor quality of the food. Ok So I been going to this place since for years and years at least since 2012 maybe ever before and I've always loved their food, the seafood is fresh and so so yummy. The sandwiches like burgers hot dogs bbq etc is always really good and most everything is great But their French fries suck, they don't salt them so they are bland, they are still soft some even taste not cooked all the way. Even I asked them to make them extra extra crispy they didn't. And it's been like this the last several times. We had to air fry them a bit more. So I'd give them a 5 star if they'd fix that. read more

An unassuming place but worth the stop and obviously a favorite with locals. Takeout mainly. Very limited seating at 3 shared picnic tables on screened porch - but seafood is plentiful, fresh and well prepared (Calabash-style) and fairly priced for the quantity. I think one large plate would easily feed two people! Even the senior-plate was plentiful with oysters and clams and almost enough for 2 servings. Iykyk.... this place is a tell tell kinda place. You'd never know to stop unless you know what it is. Small little trailer with plastic picnic tables on the screened in patio! All you need to know is DELISH! We loved everything! While our kids enjoys their hotdogs and stealing our little shrimp, mom and dad had the shrimp burger and the fish and shrimp plate! Doesn't matter what the place looks like... a 96 on their health department score and amazing food is all that matters! Glad we found this little bit of gold! read more

WE bought fish and chips, plus a mixed platter of seafood, but we had to throw most of it out. The food was so disgusting that it was inedible. The fish was especially awful, the fries were soggy, the shrimp and scallops were so tiny, they were lost in the thick batter. Food was fair. The shrimp burger was good, but it was just a bunch of individual fried shrimp on a burger bun. The burgers were thin and were nothing to come back for. We should have read the reviews and order ahead of time. We went on a Thursday and there were few people inside the restaurant so we thought we'd get our food quickly. Went last Sunday evening. We waited for almost an hour for our food. It's was well worth the wait!!! Shrimp and oysters were so delicious!!Devil crab was great too!! Not as good as I remember it being when I first had it around 2015. We waited 45 minutes for a hotdog with mustard dumped on it. Shrimp was good but not even hot, fish was decent. Fries soggy, and service terrible. Hopefully your experience will be better but I doubt we will return. read more

Best seafood in the Holden Beach area. Lot of seafood for the price, one order could feed 2. I always get the shrimp and scallops, and over all these 40 years coming to HB, I have never been disappointed. Don't let the trailer fool you, it's whats on the inside that is worth the trip. There are some picnic tables on the screened in porch, if you decide to eat there. Everyone is so friendly, they act like they have known you forever. If you did not know what a great place this was, you would pass it by, The biggest mistake they could make would be to pass this restaurant by. I can promise you that this, will be the best seafood you will find at HB. The only bad thing I can say about Silverhill is, it's only open Thurs thru Sun. Two visits here and my thoughts are that they have good breaded fried seafood, portions are above average and it's priced reasonably for the area. Two normal eating people can eat one order. I did not like the deviled crab, had a weird flavor and I didn't finish it. They only give you two tarter sauce packets and charge for more so better have some on hand. We first discovered the Silver Hill last year while at Holden. A local recommended it, but I was skeptical after passing it a few times on the road to Shallotte. The Silver Hill is basically a camper (the kitchen) with an equally-sized screen porch (the dining room) attached. My wife reminded me that I don't hesitate to eat off a food truck, so this should be no different. Man, am I glad she talked me into it. The seafood is delicious and fresh. The girl taking orders tells me its a family-run joint and has been in business 30 years. Most of their business is carry-out, but there are a few picnic tables in the screened porch "dining room." It really is a hidden jem... very few tourists. Just good food. This year, I've been looking forward to eating nowhere else while at Holden. The fried oysters, onion rings, and fried shrimp are awesome. There is a sign at the window where you order reminding you to be patient because everything is cooked fresh.... and they're not kidding. My carryout order for my family of 5 took 30 minutes tonight, but was well worth it. I recommend phoning in your order ahead of time. read more
