Great food, great vibes. A must. If you've never been there, order the fish sandwich - a slab of grilled very fresh tuna on a bun.

I've been coming here for 20 years -- from my 20s all the way into my 40s -- so I think I've earned the right to say: what happened? The atmosphere is still great, which is apparently where all the effort now goes, because the food has clearly been left unsupervised. We placed a to-go order because we had our dog with us and were sitting downstairs. Simple enough, right? Not exactly. We spent the next hour and a half playing a fun little game called "Where Is Our Food?" Downstairs told us to check upstairs. Upstairs told us to check downstairs. Very efficient system if the goal is confusion and hunger. When the food finally arrived, we had seafood chowder, onion rings, a hot dog, and hamburgers. The seafood chowder was still good, so congratulations to the chowder for surviving whatever has happened here. The onion rings were cold, the hot dog bun had a green mold spot on it -- always a nice surprise -- and the hamburger was honestly impressive in the worst possible way. I've had better burgers from fast-food chains that at least admit they're serving frozen patties. This used to be a staple. Now it feels like one of those places that got popular enough to stop trying. I won't be back for the food. Maybe drinks, because thankfully no one had to cook those. read more

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Provisions. We placed a to-go order and waited over an hour for our food, which was frustrating enough, but the quality of the food made the wait even worse. The crab cake was honestly the worst I've ever had. The cheese toast was very underwhelming--just two flipped-over buns with barely any cheese on them. The chicken wings were also terrible. My son even asked me, "Are these supposed to be good?" because he thought they were that bad. The only item that was decent was the shrimp, but shrimp is hard to mess up unless it's overcooked. After such a long wait, I expected much better food and overall quality. Unfortunately, this experience did not live up to the restaurant's reputation, and I would not return based on this visit. read more

Came in a few weeks ago and had the typical Pro Co experience! Some times a place is great for more than just the food and that's exactly how I feel about ProCo. I had the grouper plate and while everything was good it's never amazing. My drinks could not have been worse, the soda machine was out of coke so I had a flavorless rum and coke and then upon asking the bar tender for an Aperol Spritz he turned to me and asked how to make one. I had to laugh as this is the energy at this place and that's why we love it. This is your typical beach bar spot, no frills, decent food, but incredible vibes. Though the food never impresses we will always come back to Pro Co. read more

We've been coming to Provision Company for years while vacationing here, but now that we live close by this is a pretty regular special spot to hit. I enjoy that the Holden Beach location, at least the times we've gone, isn't as much of a long wait as Southport. Food is great, THEE special 10/10 must try as long as you like peel & eat shrimp. It's always fresh! The seafood chowder is also a fav! Great burgers, reasonably priced but the best part is the atmosphere. Located on the waterway watching the boats sail by is something you can't miss. Also really enjoy the live music nights! read more

Went to this restaurant on my girls weekend getaway for Independence Day 2025. This atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for in a restaurant. It was very popular with lots of guests but the wait wasn't long at all. The system this little restaurant has is the best I've ever seen! They know what they are doing! They have it down to a science! The food was so good! There were four of us and the other gals got hamburgers, cheeseburgers and chili burgers. I went with the 1/4 lb steamed shrimp, naked chicken wings with mild and ranch on the side and French fries. Everything was delicious! We tried the onion rings and they were fantastic! My friends even got our server to play and trick on me and it was hilarious. She even took a picture of us although she was so busy! They tipped her well! The view was gorgeous and we really enjoyed it. read more

Great atmosphere. Make sure to sit near the edge of the restaurant so you can watch the boats come and go! Great yellowfin tuna sandwich and onion rings were amazing and lightly breaded. It is a pay up front and sit down type of establishment so not really waited on, but still amazing food. We come here every time we are in town! read more

This is a laid back cool spot to stop for lunch. We got here just before the lunch rush. The line was out the door quickly. We ordered the grouper salad grilled. This was light and fresh. We had a perfect seat overlooking the water and watched many boats go by. The breeze was lovely and the vibe was relaxed. They offer specials daily and the drinks are self serve after you order. We enjoyed our food and look forward to going back. read more

It's close to a dive but not quite. I'm from SC where we have elegantly shabby places on the coast so it's a laid back vibe that I enjoy. It's got great views of the inland waterway, outdoor seating that has a shabby dock like feeling. There is indoor seating with a similar view. I'm not going to offer much by way of food criticism since we just dropped in and picked 1&1/4 pounds of steamed shrimp and two cucumber salads. They were great. Both are items that, with quality ingredients should not be difficult to produce a consistently I will say that I saw a crab cake. It was, pretty good sized and I think $4.50. With crab going for about $50 a pound, I have doubts about the quantity of crab meat in those. My wife refused to order one. read more

Avoid peak times. We were a party of 6 and arrived at 6:12pm. We were seated at about 7:20pm. We finally received our food at 7:45pm. * We observed a party of 8 who arrived after us seated before us. * We observed other tables who were seated after us being served before us. Basically, if you see people waiting on the side deck, then consider other options. The employees looked like they were working hard. This seems to be a management problem. The food was good. read more

Provision is definitely an experience worth trying at Holden Beach. As a first-timer this year, here are some of my observations: The parking situation is terrible ... but they know it and are cheeky about it. The servers were all wearing shirts that said "great food, great times, bad parking," which I thought was funny even after spending 10 minutes circling the lot and swearing under my breath while trying to find a space. If you're there during the day, put sunscreen on before going! You'll likely stand in a huge line that goes from the order counter down the stairs and into the parking lot. Maybe bring some water too, because you'll be waiting a while. Use your time in line to figure out what you're ordering so you can get out of the super hot counter area ASAP. Once you order, grab your drink from the bar or the fountain soda machine (free refills on those!), head out to the deck overlooking the causeway and relax for a bit. You don't need to try to find yourself a table, because they'll do that for you. I was VERY happy that was the case, because the place was packed when we arrived and I didn't think our party of 11 was ever going to find a place to sit down on our own. They'll call your name once they have a table for you, then you sit back and relax while they bring your food out. Our food arrived hot and everyone seemed pleased (I don't eat seafood, so I just had some french fries, which were tasty). After you eat, you head back to the sauna where the poor cashier sits, just feet from the hot grills, tell them your name, and pay. They also have a selection of Provision merch you can buy if you're so inclined. read more

Eight of us dined here this week. It's an interesting service model. The group orders at the counter under one name then after eating you divvy it up at the register. We always go here and sit on their deck and the food is always good. However this last time the parking lot was full and there was standing room only. I was in line and a large group of 12 cut in front of me because "their leader" was ordering and made us wait while they shoved their order through and they still had to wait standing up... We had ordered a call in take out and had to wait a short time but got the right order and it was good even after a side trip to the hardware store. read more

If you aren't coming here for seafood, you're doing it all wrong! ProCo is the best seafood on the beach. We come here at least once every trip and have our order down pat - we rarely deviate because it's just so good. For starters, we can't go without the Conch Fritters. Shaped and closely textured like hush puppies, these have the perfect amount of spices, and the meat on the inside is generous. Crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside, dipped in remoulade. You get your bang for your buck with these. The Shrimp Burger is fresh and delicious - nothing frozen to see here. They're constantly grilling these up behind the counter. I wish I knew the recipe. Paired with their house remoulade - you can't beat it. This time I ordered with Potato Salad instead of fries and it was perfect - highly recommend. My husband's go-to is the crab cake sandwich. Ask for some remoulade on the side when you order this. Sometimes I get a crabcake on the side myself - it is really good. Important to note that it's not a 'soft' crab cake - it has a hard, deep fried crunchy crust. The final thing we always order is a cup of clam chowder - it's full of shrimp, clams, bacon, and potatoes. Cream based but not too thick, and full of flavor. You won't regret ordering it. Every now and then we order the peel and eat shrimp if we have enough room. Also recommend those. The beer selection is excellent - I'd recommend stopping at the beer cooler before you go to the bar. The batch margaritas are okay, but taste more like a novelty. The atmosphere is unbeatable. Seafood shack with great views of the water and non-gimmicky, fairly priced food. It's a gem. read more

*Tourist Review* For an experience and happy meal, come by this place. The reviews led us to this restaurant along with its outdoor deck seating and location on our Southport afternoon. Beside this restaurant are neighborly restaurants; this strip has options for all. Environment: You let the host know your name and you wait on being called. While waiting, there is a tent to stand under and some benches for seating. You are offered a self-served beverage while you wait that is to be paid after your meal. There is a soda dispenser and fridge with a variety of beer, wine can, and more beer such as Landshark, Heineken, White Claw. Once you are called, you offer an item which they use to place on your table. You are routed to the ordering line to place your order at a swift moving line, you grab your beverage (same area) , and seek your table with your item that marks it. A waiter comes out and calls your name and brings the food to your table. Keep your ears on! There are so many ceiling fans so it was nice and cool on this very hot day so the heat wasn't problematic. There is a bar as well with a few chairs ! Food: Very simple but effective menu. Their steamed shrimp is their staple and very tasty and fresh. The crab cakes were enjoyable. Their chicken sandwhich was tender and juicy ! It is a very simple set up, paper plates and cups. It doesn't take away from the experience... after all they are exposing you to an outdoor, water scened dining experience! Service: Everyone was helpful. The host explained things to us as it was our first time very well and the energy was great. They seem to treat their customers well! Recommendations: Come here if you are seeking an experience on a beautiful day or evening outdoors. This is a casual place, family friendly, and very local. read more

I've actually been here a few times and always impressed, but know this place isn't fancy, but it's a great location with great food. The restaurant is basically a dock, right on the water pretty much open air but covered. They have a large parking lot across the street. You walk in and order at the counter, grab your own drink then sit if/when tables open up. We were fortunate to go on am off hour this week and didn't have to wait. The food is straight forward seafood, no frills, but all great. My wife and I split 1/2 lb of peel and eat shrimp. Perhaps my only complaint is the shrimp are not deveined, doesn't seem to be a thing they do. But they are plump and delicious, their cocktail sauce is also very good. We also split some conch fritters, I actually came back specifically for these and they were better than I remembered. Their spicy remoulade is a perfect match. This may be the best thing I've gotten here. They are straight fire, go get them if you aren't allergic to shellfish. We also each got a tuna sandwich. This was good, but I regret not asking if they can cook them to temperature (Med rare or med). This however is not canned tuna, it's a nice tuna steak sandwich. While it was med well to well done, it was still excellent and I'd order again even if they only cook them well done. If you are in Southport definitely check this place and get those conch fritters, they freaking rule. read more

The food was okay.. Nothing special and nothing like I remembered 20yrs ago. Guess we paid for the view! That was the best part! read more

Nice breezes and beach feels abound at Provision. Sure you'll wait a while after placing that order *once your full party arrives, but it's a fun vibe out in the deck with the canal and beach house backdrop. Plenty of sandwich choices highlight the menu, and don't worry, these will work for lunch or dinner (hey I'd give breakfast a try if it were possible). The mainstay is the shrimp burger: think ground shrimp in a patty. It's worth trying or retrying. To avoid monotony, the wife picked flounder, and we got to listen to her regale us with tales of flounder-wonder, how it was the best ever, so glad she picked it, she'll always order it, etc. So I guess that means try it. This trip for me involved the tuna sandwich "medium rare". It's a thin cut so they did yeoman's work to pull off medium. All you foodie-types should go that "medium rare" route lest you end up with a can of Starkist, or you end up with "rare". But still excellent for the expectations--let me not miss that point! Plenty of others had plenty of the same and plenty of love still flowed, like the the fountain drink machine, from our other party members. Speaking of fountain drinks a tip on ordering: you'll order then get your drink then wait for xx mins/hrs on the deck then gather at your table then eat then pay at the register at the end. It's all part of the Provision Ritual which you must obey or suffer the consequences of "No Provision for you!" But of course you will comply because it's the beach and you're hungry. The seafood "THEE Special" is also nice and big, and you'll get a workout peeling and divining those shrimp. It's a happy task with the rainbow at the end being you are seafood-full. We'll hurry back, but not too fast, because this is the beach and we are on vacation (so you're having fun whether you like it or not). read more
