I'm not sure what happened here. We've been coming to Holden Beach every summer for a long time and have always came to ProCo. Our last visit, however might be our last. While the food wasn't bad necessarily it definitely feels as though it's gone a bit downhill since all of our past experiences. The staff at the ordering counter were very nice, but the bartenders could not have been ruder and genuinely detracted from our experience. I must say I do and always will love the ambience of this place. It's exactly what you want at a beachside seafood spot. Went to this restaurant on my girls weekend getaway for Independence Day 2025. This atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for in a restaurant. It was very popular with lots of guests but the wait wasn't long at all. The system this little restaurant has is the best I've ever seen! They know what they are doing! They have it down to a science! The food was so good! There were four of us and the other gals got hamburgers, cheeseburgers and chili burgers. I went with the 1/4 lb steamed shrimp, naked chicken wings with mild and ranch on the side and French fries. Everything was delicious! We tried the onion rings and they were fantastic! My friends even got our server to play and trick on me and it was hilarious. She even took a picture of us although she was so busy! They tipped her well! We finally received our food at 7:45pm. * We observed a party of 8 who arrived after us seated before us. * We observed other tables who were seated after us being served before us. Provision is definitely an experience worth trying at Holden Beach. As a first-timer this year, here are some of my observations: The parking situation is terrible ... but they know it and are cheeky about it. The servers were all wearing shirts that said "great food, great times, bad parking," which I thought was funny even after spending 10 minutes circling the lot and swearing under my breath while trying to find a space. If you're there during the day, put sunscreen on before going! You'll likely stand in a huge line that goes from the order counter down the stairs and into the parking lot. Maybe bring some water too, because you'll be waiting a while. Use your time in line to figure out what you're ordering so you can get out of the super hot counter area ASAP. Once you order, grab your drink from the bar or the fountain soda machine (free refills on those!), head out to the deck overlooking the causeway and relax for a bit. You don't need to try to find yourself a table, because they'll do that for you. I was VERY happy that was the case, because the place was packed when we arrived and I didn't think our party of 11 was ever going to find a place to sit down on our own. They'll call your name once they have a table for you, then you sit back and relax while they bring your food out. Our food arrived hot and everyone seemed pleased (I don't eat seafood, so I just had some french fries, which were tasty). After you eat, you head back to the sauna where the poor cashier sits, just feet from the hot grills, tell them your name, and pay. They also have a selection of Provision merch you can buy if you're so inclined. read more

It's close to a dive but not quite. I'm from SC where we have elegantly shabby places on the coast so it's a laid back vibe that I enjoy. It's got great views of the inland waterway, outdoor seating that has a shabby dock like feeling. There is indoor seating with a similar view. I'm not going to offer much by way of food criticism since we just dropped in and picked 1&1/4 pounds of steamed shrimp and two cucumber salads. They were great. Both are items that, with quality ingredients should not be difficult to produce a consistently I will say that I saw a crab cake. It was, pretty good sized and I think $4.50. With crab going for about $50 a pound, I have doubts about the quantity of crab meat in those. My wife refused to order one. read more

Living on Oak Island we have routinely gone to the ProCo at Southport but I'm here to tell you that this one at Holden is way nicer when it comes to parking(except for the holes), the location, scenery of the ICW and the interior and exterior space. The food quality and courteous staff are exactly the same as I would expect. It's a pleasant drive and there is a lot to see and do in the immediate locale. read more

Beside this restaurant are neighborly restaurants; this strip has options for all. Environment: You let the host know your name and you wait on being called. While waiting, there is a tent to stand under and some benches for seating. You are offered a self-served beverage while you wait that is to be paid after your meal. There is a soda dispenser and fridge with a variety of beer, wine can, and more beer such as Landshark, Heineken, White Claw. Once you are called, you offer an item which they use to place on your table. You are routed to the ordering line to place your order at a swift moving line, you grab your beverage (same area) , and seek your table with your item that marks it. A waiter comes out and calls your name and brings the food to your table. Keep your ears on! There are so many ceiling fans so it was nice and cool on this very hot day so the heat wasn't problematic. There is a bar as well with a few chairs ! Food: Very simple but effective menu. Their steamed shrimp is their staple and very tasty and fresh. The crab cakes were enjoyable. Their chicken sandwhich was tender and juicy ! It is a very simple set up, paper plates and cups. If you aren't coming here for seafood, you're doing it all wrong! ProCo is the best seafood on the beach. We come here at least once every trip and have our order down pat - we rarely deviate because it's just so good. For starters, we can't go without the Conch Fritters. Shaped and closely textured like hush puppies, these have the perfect amount of spices, and the meat on the inside is generous. Crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside, dipped in remoulade. You get your bang for your buck with these. The Shrimp Burger is fresh and delicious - nothing frozen to see here. They're constantly grilling these up behind the counter. I wish I knew the recipe. Paired with their house remoulade - you can't beat it. This time I ordered with Potato Salad instead of fries and it was perfect - highly recommend. My husband's go-to is the crab cake sandwich. Ask for some remoulade on the side when you order this. Sometimes I get a crabcake on the side myself - it is really good. Important to note that it's not a 'soft' crab cake - it has a hard, deep fried crunchy crust. The final thing we always order is a cup of clam chowder - it's full of shrimp, clams, bacon, and potatoes. Cream based but not too thick, and full of flavor. You won't regret ordering it. Every now and then we order the peel and eat shrimp if we have enough room. Also recommend those. The beer selection is excellent - I'd recommend stopping at the beer cooler before you go to the bar. To be honest, I was scared. Most beach food isn't very good. HOWEVER, this place was quite entertaining. I will now go into further detail of this coastal dive shack. To begin, the parking lot was packed. And there's a line outside of the door, which means it must be a good spot. we wear for about 30 minutes to I get a table because we had a 20 person party. They were very helpful and very efficient and getting us a table. My friend got the crabcake and shrimp (PSA: the steamed shrimp is not pre-peeled) and said they were absolutely delicious. My other friend got the clam chowder and said that it was divine. I got the chicken tenders and fries and they were scrumptious. I dare say some of the best ones I've had. The fries are mid. Everyone else in my party had no complaints about the food. The ambience of the establishment is very coastal chic. it's definitely giving beach. Has an absolutely gorgeous area to take pictures on docks. It's definitely not a fancy restaurant, but it's definitely a good place to go eat after a long day at the beach. There is a lady from the local radio station singing some fantastic country songs. She did take song requests and was really friendly with her audience. I've actually been here a few times and always impressed, but know this place isn't fancy, but it's a great location with great food. The restaurant is basically a dock, right on the water pretty much open air but covered. They have a large parking lot across the street. You walk in and order at the counter, grab your own drink then sit if/when tables open up. We were fortunate to go on am off hour this week and didn't have to wait. The food is straight forward seafood, no frills, but all great. My wife and I split 1/2 lb of peel and eat shrimp. Perhaps my only complaint is the shrimp are not deveined, doesn't seem to be a thing they do. But they are plump and delicious, their cocktail sauce is also very good. We also split some conch fritters, I actually came back specifically for these and they were better than I remembered. Their spicy remoulade is a perfect match. This may be the best thing I've gotten here. They are straight fire, go get them if you aren't allergic to shellfish. We also each got a tuna sandwich. This was good, but I regret not asking if they can cook them to temperature (Med rare or med). This however is not canned tuna, it's a nice tuna steak sandwich. While it was med well to well done, it was still excellent and I'd order again even if they only cook them well done. If you are in Southport definitely check this place and get those conch fritters, they freaking rule. read more

Nice breezes and beach feels abound at Provision. Sure you'll wait a while after placing that order *once your full party arrives, but it's a fun vibe out in the deck with the canal and beach house backdrop. Plenty of sandwich choices highlight the menu, and don't worry, these will work for lunch or dinner (hey I'd give breakfast a try if it were possible). The mainstay is the shrimp burger: think ground shrimp in a patty. It's worth trying or retrying. To avoid monotony, the wife picked flounder, and we got to listen to her regale us with tales of flounder-wonder, how it was the best ever, so glad she picked it, she'll always order it, etc. So I guess that means try it. This trip for me involved the tuna sandwich "medium rare". It's a thin cut so they did yeoman's work to pull off medium. All you foodie-types should go that "medium rare" route lest you end up with a can of Starkist, or you end up with "rare". But still excellent for the expectations--let me not miss that point! Plenty of others had plenty of the same and plenty of love still flowed, like the the fountain drink machine, from our other party members. Speaking of fountain drinks a tip on ordering: you'll order then get your drink then wait for xx mins/hrs on the deck then gather at your table then eat then pay at the register at the end. It's all part of the Provision Ritual which you must obey or suffer the consequences of "No Provision for you!" But of course you will comply because it's the beach and you're hungry. The seafood "THEE Special" is also nice and big, and you'll get a workout peeling and divining those shrimp. It's a happy task with the rainbow at the end being you are seafood-full. We'll hurry back, but not too fast, because this is the beach and we are on vacation (so you're having fun whether you like it or not). read more

We read about it...asked the GM about it and she said, just get it...you won't be disappointed! She wasn't wrong! Put your order in and grab a beer out of the cooler...it's on the honor system! REFRESHING!! This will become a regular stop when visiting southern shores of NC/Myrtle Beach. Worth the drive...we drove over an hour to try the Shrimp Burger! Haha! However, I was there last Monday and I feel the management should have removed a family that was sporting obscene clothing. Hi ho hi ho hi ho.....back to Holden Beach we go. First stop as always for a quick bite to eat once again is the Provision Co. Always great. Always served fast and w great friendly staff. We had the Special of the day 3.3.24 "boiled peel & eat shrimp w crab cake" & I had the Grouoer sandwich w onion rings. Absolutely perfect as always. Never ever had a bad meal or "drink" here by the water at ProCo. By far our favorite place to eat on the NC coast. Cornhole boards outside for anyone, very low key come as you are atmosphere.
