Stopped in to pick up some shrimp for dinner. We first noticed how clean the place was inside and the lack of fishy smell that some other places have. The fish were all covered when we arrived, but an employee quickly uncovered them so we could see the fresh catch. Ended up getting 2.5 pounds of peeled, deveined shrimp at what we felt was a very reasonable price. Pros: 1.) Good prices. Their prices for shrimp and other catch all seemed very reasonable. 2.) Good service. Employees were very attentive. Cons: 1.) Cocktail sauce. We love a spicy cocktail sauce, and the "spicy" one they recommended was hardly spicy at all. Very minor critique, but we love places that make their own and they only have premade brands. Would definitely stop in again to try out some of the other seafood they offer! read more

When you're on vacation in a place like Holden beach OR nearby you MUST go to OLD FERRY SEAFOOD for the freshest seafood available!!! I kid you not, the locals will tell you that ANNA & PHIL ROBINSON'S seafood is the freshest, deveined shrimp, crab for cakes or salads, fish, sushi grade tuna I could go on and on. First visit and highly impressed with the quality of seafood! I got 10 lbs of shrimp. When I got home, I weighed out all 10 lbs to put away. 2 lbs were medium sized shrimp. They weighed 2 pounds when I got home. The 2 (4) Lbs large shrimp bags both were 1/2lb short. So I really got 7 lbs of lrg. Shrimp. I also got a grouper filet which is on the grill now. I don't know how much that was supposed to weigh, but I did pay $130 for the fresh seafood. I will go back on my next visit and purchase more because seafood, but I hope they see this and compensate me for the 1 lb that I feel i was shorted. My 2 lbs of medium shrimp would not have weighed 2 lbs when I got home if the scale was broken. Hence my large shrimp should have weighed what it weighed in the market at my home. What a find. If you're staying around Holden Beach, and you're craving the freshest seafood in the area, drive over to Old Ferry Seafood. You'll park in the gravel lot, walk into a wide open barn-like building and be greeted by a friendly gentleman and his dog Bailey. A small row boat will be stocked with the morning's catch, such as scallops, triggerfish, mahi, grouper, snapper, shrimp and much more. It will change every day, obviously, which makes the experience even more real and intimate. Fish is priced by the pound and you'll even get cooking tips if you're interested. On our trip, we prepared scallop pasta and triggerfish/rice pilaf both bought from Old Ferry. And wow were we happy. Even a few little knickknacks to purchase if you're so inclined, too. Long story short? You're on the Atlantic in a gorgeous beach town. Buy fresh, local seafood and live in the moment. You'll be glad you did. read more

We vacation at Holden Beach every year. I have used this location for our fish, shrimp, crab and scallops for several years. I have found the folks there to be very friendly and the quality of all have a been fresh and very good. It makes my cooking seem great . Got 5 pounds of fresh (and huge!) shrimp to boil for supper. They were the sweetest and most tender shrimp! We boiled them with potatoes and corn and a little old bay. Delicious! read more

We LOVE this place! The owners, Anna & Phil, have the most delicious seafood around (IMHO), and really know their stuff. They have answered all our questions and have been so helpful when we're trying to plan fresh seafood for the family and our guests. We've prepared numerous seafood 'feasts' and everyone is always overwhelmed. We come from the Chesapeake Bay area and we have good seafood, but it doesn't compare with the quality and taste of what we can get here. In fact, we 'stock up' before we head back home so we can enjoy it later. I can't say enough good about this place. It was recommended to us years ago and it's never failed to deliver. I usually don't write reviews, but I'm so grateful to have found this place and met these fine folks, I almost feel obligated to share about it.
