I've visited Amelia's every trip for 6 years and have always had great service and wonderful food. Sad to say yesterday was the exception. We got there not long after opening and my partner ordered shrimp & grits. The grits were cold! Like not even room temperature. The server brought them back to the kitchen and they were returned very quickly in a very hot bowl that had obviously been microwave, shrimp and all. Fearing there was no way to remedy that dish he ordered something completely different. Their eggs Benedict. This was brought out with a side of potatoes that had obviously met the same fate as the shrimp. Microwaved to the point of a rubbery unpalatable mess. The eggs, were not fully cooked! The whites were nothing short of runny. That being said, we gave 3 stars because of service. Our server was kind and extremely apologetic for the kitchen's failings. Promised to let management know when they came in. I truly hope this was an anomaly and not where things have gone. read more

Since we moved to the area, Amelia's has been our go-to favorite. The last two visits have discouraged us. On May 5th,we took guests for dinner. The petit steak sandwich which is usually my favorite was a great disappointment. Roll was burned. Had two pepper strips and no onions. For the Mother's Day brunch, all four of us ordered pancakes. My husband had the grouper sandwich and really enjoyed it - having it with a baked potato was a nice option. I had the crab cake salad and the crab cakes were great! Lots of lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Our server was sweet and attentive. We came in when there was not many people. The service was good , quick and very helpful. The burger was done well with beefy flavor from the burger. The fries were crispy and fluffy. The Benedict however needed to be rethought. The he crab cake was a thin paddy. The egg was over cooked. The sauce had a slight citrus flavor. If I had to do it over again... This is a wonderful spot for brunch. I had the crab cake Benedict. The eggs were poached perfectly, and the hollandaise was freshly made. My husband had the petite filet salad. Went to the Mardi Gras night and they had a little jazz duo Dave Nelms Jazz. It wasn't a huge celebration but they had four Cajun inspired dishes. I enjoyed the Shrimp Ettoufee with crawfish but my other diners had Reubens and chicken tenders and lasagna. I will comeback to try the other dinners.Service was ok but I was there for awhile so I didn't mind the slow pace. Amazing restaurant!! So cute and welcoming inside. We had bfast & lunch. They serve lunch as early as you'll eat it so that's a good compromise. They make their bread onsite and man oh man is it delish! Wait til you see the dessert display case! I've posted pics. No words needed. Had lunch here with a friend (May 31st 2024). We sat outside, as it was a beautiful day. My friend ordered a salad and I ordered a burger with a side salad. We waited at least 30 minutes or so when the waitress came out and apologized stating that orders are submitted electronically to the kitchen but it never made it to the kitchen. The food came out quickly. The cook rushed making my burger because it was a little too raw in the middle. I eat steaks very rare, but a burger should be cooked through. I should have sent it back but I was so hungry by then. I did ask the waitress if they were going to provide a discount. I think we got 15 or 20% off. A good restaurant would have comped the meal. After using the restroom, I checked out the interior. I noticed a board with lunch specials. It would have been nice if the waitress told us the specials. I may give this place another try sometime in the future. read more

Been to Amelia's several times over the years and it's one of my favorite places to eat at OIB. My experience today was not good. I asked for eggs fried hard and they came out runny. Along with that I had avocado on my (plain) toast. I didn't say anything about the toast and ate a couple of bites. When I sent mentioned my egg was cooked properly, the waitress took my entire plate and only left the bowl of grits. When she brought back my plate, it had the same toast and now cold bacon along with my newly fried egg. Im not in the restaurant business but I would think that if they take the whole plate then they would bring back fresh food. Not the case at Amelia's. Wait staff wasn't very pleasant today. May give it another try in the future just because today was my first bad experience but left disappointed. read more

I love it when I stumble across a gem of a restaurant! I was preparing for my 3.5 hour long drive home from Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina to Greensboro after a wonderful week. It was around 10:15 in the morning and not much was open yet. I wanted to pick up something pre- packaged for the ride so I decided Publix would be my best bet at this point. I get out and see at the end of the strip mall a bunch of outdoor cafe tables with people sitting at them. Huh? I walked down there and much to my surprise found Amelia's Grille. It was buzzing with tanned vacationers all coming and going to Ocean Isle Beach. Everybody had a happy vacation vibe going, comfortably wearing shorts and tee shirts. It was absolutely charming, homey and beachy all at the same time. The walls were decorated with beach decor, hand written menus and other fun brick a brack. There is a bar/ counter in the middle of the restaurant where I saw people having breakfast and enjoying a mimosa or bloody mary. Amelia's has quite an extensive menu since they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A very sweet hostess named Maddy handed me a menu since I wanted to order take out. I was allowed to order lunch even though they were deeply entrenched in a breakfast crowd. I knew I wanted a salad so I was able to hone in there. It was a tough decision, but I selected the power bowl salad with shrimp with an unsweetened ice tea. The salad consisted of lettuce, avocado, quinoa, roasted corn, black bean, red and yellow peppers, red onion, shrimp and a raspberry vinaigrette. Apparently, Amelia's is known for their home items like their biscuits and gravy, famous dark meat chicken salad, cakes and much more. While I was waiting for my take out order, I struck up a few conversations with patrons. Some were locals who frequented Amelia's and some visited every year on their beach week. They had one thing in common, they all loved Amelia's! I got my power bowl, salad paid the hostess and was on my merry way home. We've tried Amelia's several times over the years - actually since they opened and regrettably, it only gets worse. The prices, of course, have increased like so many other places, however, the food quality has decreased. The Shrimp étouffée was nearly tasteless (no Cajun spices to speak of) and the tails were left on the shrimp - the shrimp had to be removed from the sauce, put on a plate and the tails removed so as not to eat the shell - what a mess. In addition, the salad that came with the meal had a thick bed of lettuce and full slices of cucumbers and onions - both of which had to be removed and sliced. Come on - just remove the tails & cut the vegetables - it doesn't cost anything extra - it's called "prep". The Reuben sandwich had dried corned beef and the bread was so saturated with butter/grease, I couldn't eat it. We've been to the restaurant enough to know that we certainly can't complain about anything, as the chef/owner just goes a bit nuts with the server that passes on the issue and there is no apology or refund or even replacement offered. We did like the new menus (just not the price increases) and the server and hostess were pleasant but yet no one asked how our meal was - even though food was left on the plate - obviously for the reason stated above. Just too bad to see this nice little restaurant increase prices and decrease food quality. I'm certain he'll stay in business because actual restaurants are a little limited in this area - it just won't be with our dollars anymore. read more

Bottom line: Amelia's in Ocean Isle Beach gets all the stars from me. Nice atmosphere, great breakfast/brunch selections, friendly and helpful service all made for two great breakfast visits to this OIB hidden gem. The Deets: It's good when we get to discover a new place on our annual OIB trips, and this year was no exception in finding Amelia's next to the Publix in the Ocean Isle Beach Market Place shopping center near the Beach Drive roundabout. We wanted somewhere to get a good sit down breakfast/brunch and Amelia's did not disappoint. Upon entering, I like the decor...clean, modern but with a bit of local charm in with it. The bar to the left is nice and inviting. We were seated promptly and our drink orders were taken. I had no complaints with my mimosa and my friend Todd C. had a Bloody Mary that he raved about saying it was the best he had in a long time. We all got our entrees ordered, I with the Amelia's breakfast platter (eggs, choice of meat, choice of carb, and toast), Josh R. with the breakfast veggie quiche, and Todd C. with the shrimp & grits. My breakfast platter was good and just as ordered. Everyone else raved about their choices, and I got to taste the grits of the shrimp & grits and honestly they tasted amazing. All during our meal, our server was very positive and helpful with lots of smiles as well as getting what we needed when we needed it. We found Amelia's so good the first time that we decided to come back again for breakfast again the following day! This next experience was just as good if not better. Orders this time included their breakfast sandwich on brioche bun for me (with add on of side of grits) while the others got the Charleston Benedict (made with crab cakes) and the blueberry waffles. Again, everything was just wonderful. My breakfast sandwich hit the spot for what I wanted. There were raves for the Charleston Benedict and I got to try some of the blueberry waffles which were nothing short of amazing. I did grab pics of everything from both visits to share on here, check them out. Just as the first visit, service and staff were wonderful as well as welcoming. We had wanted to try them at some point for lunch or dinner but did not have the chance this trip, so something to look forward to in the future! Our first night in OIB, we were starving and found Amelia's, with no wait for a table. What a great find! My son tried ribs, said they were the best he had ever had. Husband had a shrimp dish that he loved. They shared crab cakes. I had a salad with chicken salad, delicious and so big I had half For Lunch the next day. The portions were all very generous, the food very flavorful. Our server was great. We took dessert home. Amelia's is over all an average restaurant. Please keep in mind that this is based on one time visit. Anything I would try to rate (food, service and ambiance) would really come out at this same level. This should not to discourage anyone from trying it out. In fact it is a viable choice if you stay here for a few days. The menu selection is good and definitely better than average. So your personal view may be entirely different. For us the selection was more tempting than what we got. Perhaps the promising menu heighten our expectations that ultimately weren't met at that level. read more
