Due to some changes in our vacation plans, we were unable to return to Matthew's as often as we would have liked. We made a choice to return this time, especially as it had been a couple years. As before, the service was wonderful. Our server indicated she was new and still learning the menu, but she hustled and did a great job on all the expected services. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the previous experience. First, our order took at least 30 minutes to arrive. The restaurant was not full, but we noticed all other patrons were having to wait for their orders. It was unclear what was causing the delay, and our server came by several times apologizing for the wait. The Big Bite Burrito did not live up to its name. It was no more than a regular size tortilla. It was filled to a decent level but had only a very small amount of chorizo included. The provided salsa was basically from a jar with very little flavor and not spicy heat at all. This was very disappointing and since it did not come with any sides it left me hungry. The Breakfast Smashburger was more a cowboy burger than a smashburger. The patty was thicker than a smashburger and did not have the crispy edge expected. It was fine as a cowboy burger. It was ordered with an over medium egg but arrived with a scrambled egg. The server was informed and she went to the kitchen to get a correctly cooked egg. She returned in about three minutes with an over easy egg, which sufficed. The side of home fries were inedible. The potatoes tasted like they came from a can and barely met the grill before being plated. They were flavorless and barely warm. While the service remains top notch, the food quality for the breakfast options has fallen significantly. read more

Hubby had the crème brûlée french toast topped with fresh berries, fruit compote, & whipped cream & comes with 2 eggs & choice of meat. Decided to stop and give this place a shot on our way to Myrtle Beach. I had the crab cake Benedict and a peach pancake, my bestie had the salmon omelette . Salmon omelette did its job. My husband and I went for breakfast. We were seated right away. It has an atmosphere like going to a friends house , friendly ,come as you are . Our food came out in a timely manner . It was during the week or so between the Christmas Holidays & New Year's Day. We are relatively new to this area & this was our first Holiday Season. Several Bakeries in the area were closed for the Holidays, & that's how I ended up at Matthew's Pancake House. & the beignets were really really good! & very suitable for the House Party cuz one of the hosts was making authentic N'Orleans gumbo!! I was introduced to Matthews by a local more than 20 years ago and have always made it a point to stop whenever I'm at the beach. My Sister & I went for a late Breakfast on Monday and we were very disappointed, The biscuits were stale, I understand we were There kinda late close to closing at 2:00. I was a little leary that the photos were all staged. I can tell you that my Pancakes with Blueberry, Goat Cheese, Lemon Zest with Whip Cream were served better than the photo.
