It's been a while but was a smog check time again and happened to be in the Irvine area, so decided to check Smog Time again. Turns out some good things don't change. In fact sometime they get better. 8 years ago I paid $50 including fees for a 2001 Honda Accord smog check. Fast forward to today and price got better? $48 out the door. I spoke to both JC and Pete and they were both very friendly and honest. JC honored my last second Yelp Check-In and just asked for my review. This place used to be great, but the technician I had today clearly never heard the words customer service. He was working on one vehicle ahead of me when I arrived and never acknowledged I was there. I waited at least 20-30 minutes. He took his time doing paperwork after parking the other vehicle and I finally stuck my head in and asked if I should move my car, and got a grunted yes. Never a hello or anything close to civility. I get that people are busy and places are understaffed, but a minimal effort at something close to customer service isn't too much to ask for. The smog check itself was fine, so come here if you can find a coupon or Groupon. Just don't expect anything approaching civility and you'll be fine, I guess. Brought my car in for a long overdue smog check. It was 4:30pm on a Monday afternoon. Even though there were two customers ahead of me and it was only an hour before closing, they said they could take my vehicle and provide a smog check. I was very appreciative - especially since my registration was past due because of the smog check. Service took only 10 minutes and all went well. They even honored a coupon! Made an appointment to get a smog check done online last night + was planning on doing my title transfer while I was there since they're an authorized DMV facility. Well, I show up at 1:16pm (early), tell him I'm here for my appointment, and the man tells me they don't take appointments, he needs to eat and come back in 15-20 minutes so he can go eat. As I'm leaving I see him start to work on another car!!!!!!! I ended up going to another smog facility that you can find in my reviews. Cleaner, faster, cheaper, and MUCH nicer than Smog Time. Fuck this place. I waited 3 hours to get my car checked. It passed functional inspection but I failed the check because of the visual inspection. I have an after market air filter and have passed smog checks previously but because the inspector didn't see a sticker, he failed me. I've been coming here for my smog check since 2020 (pre pandemic), and I'm always well taken care of. There's usually a wait since it's almost always busy, but the actual smog check is quick. Even more, I have a dash cam hardwired in, and Frank always comes out and checks on me when I'm making sure the wire is plugged in. SCAM! They're playing a bait and switch with coupons. Got a smog check with a Groupon and my car didn't pass...fine. They then said I would have to pay for a retest even though their website says "free retest within 90 days". They said I did not qualify for a free retest because I had used a coupon. None of this was communicated up front, no fine print anywhere about this (I double checked the coupon and website). Yelp seemed to give it good reviews, so I called them up one morning and asked if I could make an appointment or walk in. They said just show up, so i did. The wait wasn't long at all, with only one person ahead of me, and I was in and out within probably half an hour. So much closer than the place I used to take my cars in Santa Ana and very fast service. When they first tried to smog the car it didn't pass because two sensors in the car reported they didn't have data on the current state of the engine - the transmission had just been replaced and when the battery is disconnected I guess the car forgets those kinds of things. Even though I'm very familiar with cars I would have never known what to do and would have taken it to dealer for answers - undoubtedly costing me $175 for an hour of diagnosis there. Instead of having to go through all that they told me the best ways to get the car to build up the data the sensors needed. Over the next couple of days I simply did exactly as they said (let the car cool down for 10 hours, drive 60 mph for x number of minutes, etc). I brought the car back three days later and they checked the codes without an additional charge and smogged the car within minutes after they confirmed they had cleared. Above and beyond customer service. There's no doubt I'll be back when my next car needs to be smogged. read more

Quick and easy smog check! Took my old car in for smog check just in time for registration renewal. They took the time to explain my battery issue (I haven't driven the car in a long time so my battery was close to dead) and let me charge my battery so I can retest in a week. Came back a week later after driving my car around enough, and successfully passed with no issues! Battery charge was $15 extra btw. Fair price for the service I got, and wait was never longer than 15 - 20min even with two cars ahead of me. Just call them ahead to make sure they're open and let them know what services you're looking for as I believe they have limited service right now due to COVID-19. Would recommend! read more

Took my car into Smog Time for my smog check. I got there first thing in the morning right when they open, and was the only person in there. The old guy with the mustache quoted me 30-40 minutes at 8am, which i was iffy about since i was on a time schedule & there is no one else here, but i proceeded to stay and get it done. When it was past the 40 minutes, i let him know that i needed to leave soon, and he started to get mad saying "well i quoted you 30-40 minutes" and was being an a**hole.
