I called ahead of time (around 9:15 on a Thursday morning) and Bryan let me know over the phone that he was currently working on a car but that he'd be free in about 40 minutes. He also told me on the phone it cost $50 with cash (I think it's cheaper if paying in cash). I came by at about 10am and there was no wait! I parked somewhere, but Bryan had me pull up right in front of the business. He took my paperwork and started the smog test right away. Afterwards, I paid and signed a form and that was it! Easy peasy Side note: the total was $50 (about $41 for the smog test and about $9 for the certificate fee) Bryan was great to work with. (I think he mentioned he's not the owner, but just work there). He's an older gentleman and we bonded over being Asian (he's Vietnamese, I'm Filipino). I asked about his life and he asked about mine. This place is right down the street from me so I came in early on a Sunday to get a smog check. When I came in, Brian told me he was having issues with the equipment, but he gave me the business number and told me to give him a call in two hours, that it should be fixed by then. This place tried to force a fee for a physical copy of a smog check certificate. I was going to bring them 3 cars to do. I called before driving there. We talked about what car, year, model, and make. The price was set. He asked me if I wanted a certificate. I told him no, as it is not required by CA state law. State law states that the testing station will send the pass/no pass cert result electronically directly to the DMV. Why do I need a certificate aside from the printout you're going to give, showing me all the little statistics anyway, like the ones you get from a car alignment? I only care that my car passed, much like how you only care that your alignment is done right, and who cares about camber/toe angles? This is no different, aside from the fact that the testing station needs to send the results to the DMV directly per state law. So I drag my dad along to take 2 of the 3 cars there. He pretends to call some "guy," and he says, The man I spoke with said you need a certificate. 8.25 extra. I told him no, and I said Who is this 'guy' you spoke with? He didn't answer because he faked the call. Then he pressed again, saying he won't do it unless I buy the certificate. I told him no again and I asked him who did he confirmed this as a fact with as I've done my research already. He told me he spoke with DMV. LOL, have you tried calling the DMV in the last 20 years? Very disappointed with the man working at this SMOG station. He would not even SMOG/test my car due to a LEGAL air intake I have installed. I provided all CARB EO documents and CARB sticker for the intake proving it is legal in CA, but he was very rude and denied me service, claiming it was not allowed even though I had all the paperwork. Something fishy about this place. I changed an O2 sensor and took my 1998 Camry to be checked. The owner asked me the year and how many miles on the car. I told home and he said to come back at 1:00. I came back at 1:00 and he hooked up the handheld code reader. He asked me if I had reset the computer and I told him I had replaced the sensor, reset the module and driven about 50 miles. He told me to drive 250 and come back. I did and 2 days later came back. He was really rude and told me he would not test my car. It was too old. Yes my car needed work but the RPM test we found out (from another smog place in Fullerton that I used to go) is random and this guy here on Redhill AA smog had no idea and therefore it cost us $500. More replacing something that really was ok! To be honest after the third try he said "take the car somewhere else, it may pass". Ironically I had the same thought, so we called the Fullerton smog that I knew and he said the same thing. So I took the car to jamboree smog check. When they do they charge on the higher side for smog at $58 with certificate and when I told him I had an online coupon he was pissed and said fine being the coupon and hung up on me. I've smogged my car once here before and not only did it take long, but they weren't able to smog it because I had a catalytic shield on and the guy didn't want to look underneath the car to get the carb # he needed. They do honor their listed coupons. They say trucks and suv pricesis $10 extra ($2.01 more than what his coupon says) after they see your car and hook it up. Then, once they are running the car they ask if you want your certification for registration which I had already asked at the very beginning with the total price before he hooked it up and he said it would be an additional $8. This smog check place which is one service bay in a portion of a Shell gas station was supposed to open at 8am, but the guy didn't show until about 8:15am. Although a coupon said the cost is $29.97 plus certificate, he said it'll be $10 extra for vans. The coupon only specified that large vans will pay extra. Anyway since I was already here, I said okay and had the smog check done. The person wasn't too friendly but not rude.
