I guess don't go here at lunch. They had one person there who acted like I was rude for asking if I was in the correct place for a smog check. Told me to come back in a "couple of hours" and I asked what time would be safe to come back. He loudly rolled his eyes and pointed at the clock and said "well I said 2 hours and in two hours it will be _:__" with a mocking voice. I am disabled and was merely seeking clarity because I wanted to go back at a good time. He acted like I personally ruined his day by asking for help in where to go. I went down the street and was in and out faster than I could write this review. Paid maybe a few bucks extra, but for the experience, I'd never go back to smog time, as I understand that sometimes you catch someone in a moment, but I would never spend money in a place that would treat a customer as I was. BROUGHT MY 2003 JAGUAR to this place and it actually passed the SMOG test but mechanic Frank Baker refused to pass stating that the EVAP had been tampered with somehow. Mechanic was VERY RUDE and wasn't even willing to spend time to explain his INCORRECT THINKING. He mentioned BENTLEY parts so I'm not even sure if he knew the difference between a BENTLY and a JAGUAR. Don't waste you money with the $40 mailer they are sending to IRVINE residents. I went in today and the guy was very fast, I'll give him that. The only concern i have is the knowledge the technician has. My car has been stock since 2001 and had to replace the catalytic converter (was done prior to me buying it). He didn't pass it because it was rusty. He also said i had defective/wrong hoses. One hose was a vacuum hose, on the hose it says windshield wash/vacuum hose. He only pointed at the windshield part and said it was wrong. IT WAS THERE SINCE I GOT IT AND IS FACTORY! Another one was a small crack at the end of the evap hose. He said that was defective. End of day I have not touched it since I bought it in 2019 and it has passed smog every time since then. read more

I came in for a smog test today. Before coming in, I called and asked for a quote of the service being done on my make and model of my car. I was promised a reasonable price $58 for a smog test. So I came through and showed up. As soon as a showed up I was given a price at $72. I then kindly said I spoke with someone about a lower price and then immediately it was changed. That part was fine, I can understand mis communication or mistakes. Now here comes where I normally don't write reviews especially nasty ones, but this is where I draw the line. As my car was being inspected I overheard Peter who was inspecting the car say Something about how he "screwed up" on an inspection answer and needed assistance on my car from his coworker or manager. Whole entire time I watched him do the inspection as I had a feeling my car wasn't being handled with care. As he finished up my paperwork of my smog test passing, he calls my name up as I see my car is still running out front by the office door. As I came up to him, I kindly asked if he had turned my car off before returning my keys back to me. He then responded back with a attitude of "yeah I did" as I caught him not being truthful as I pointed out it is still running. He then proceeded to walk out the door with my keys, gets in MY CAR, shuts my door hard, THEN drives around the block to park my car farther away. For what, to act like a FUCKING PATHETIC DICKHEAD. I'm like WTF. his behavior in doing that action was simply because I called him out on him not professionally taking care of a paying customer who just simply wanted to know why my car wasn't turned off. Im not starting B.S for nothing. Doing a smog test on a clients car does not consists of unprofessional rude behavior towards a young girl who is getting her car checked out. I normally do not and hate writing bad reviews because I know we all make mistakes in our work and I get it. But in this case I feel I must make a bad yet honest review of this establishment. I've have been going to Smog Time for years for my other cars and had a great experience up until this last smog check. Years ago, I purchased a van that has an incorrect emissions label under the hood from a private party and the van passed with previous smog test establishments. This time, I took my van to Smog Time to have it smog checked expecting a normal routine but they failed me for the incorrect emissions label under my hood (the label indicated a 2000 van with a 5.9L engine when I had a 2003 van with a 5.2L engine [I'm leaving the make & model out for privacy reasons]). Longer-story short, after they sent me on an unsuccessful run around for two weeks to the dealer, the DMV, and AAA, I sought the advice of two other CA STAR-certified smog techs who said Smog Time should NOT have failed me for an incorrect label. Each tech said they'd be happy to smog test me but since my van was in the CA system as a failed smog check, they recommended that I go back to Smog Time; therefore, I returned so they can retest me but they still refused and boldly told me to call the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) and even gave me their phone number. I called the BAR and they ran a background check on my car based on my VIN and confirmed my vehicle history is clear. Then, they scheduled an appointment for me with one of THEIR BAR smog techs. Needless to say, I passed beautifully within minutes. In addition (and again), the BAR smog tech told me Smog Time should NOT have failed me because of the incorrect label and quoted to me California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 16, Section 3340.45, Section 1.3.2 - "A missing or illegible emission control label does not constitute an inspection failure" and in cases where the label is missing, they're required to proceed with the inspection using other BAR-approved sources. Furthermore, he recommend that I go to another smog check facility next year. Again, I really hate writing bad reviews and I don't do this often but felt the need to share my experience despite my past positive experiences with Smog Time for years. read more

Just got back from having my car smogged here. Pete Martinez is a guy who knows his stuff. My 2018 car in excellent condition gave a reading of its sensors not being ready, so it technically "failed" the test. Mr. Martinez gave me exact, detailed instructions of how to drive the car so it's sensor system would reset itself and be ready for the test. I followed his instructions to the letter, and I returned to have it checked again. Success! I can't thank him enough for assisting me. They are pretty quick getting you in and tested, no problems there either. You do need to have your coupon or groupon in hand if you want any discount so be prepared for that. All in all, I'm glad I came here and that Mr. Martinez shared the knowledge in order to get my car Passed and back on the road. read more

I am so beyond pissed off at how I was treated at this business. The first time I went, the two men working were very pleasant and helpful. I come back for a second time because I got a free re-test and the man who was working there (not at the desk) was so horrible to me. I think his name was Frank. He was mumbling saying things to me so I said, "Oh I'm sorry, what did you say?" and raised his voice at me saying "GET IN TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CAR". He also pounded on my car windows multiple times. He forced me to hang up my phone when I was asking questions about my car to a family member and looked me at saying "DID YOU HANG UP NOW?" Horrible experience, he really needs to learn how to better interact with his customers or he eventually won't have any more. The other man is so sweet (he wears glasses and usually helps out at the desk) and should be the only one working at the shop. He actually made me feel comfortable. Frank made me feel stupid and spoke to me like I was a 5 year old. Like another review on here, he refused to pass me for the smog because of an EVAP issue which is not what they told to me to fix the first time I came here. I understand I am a young woman in her early 20's that doesn't understand a lot about cars, but you don't have to act like a dick towards me cause you don't want to be at your job. You don't like your job - quit. No one is making you stay there. You'd be doing the company a favor if you left. I actually felt so uncomfortable while sitting in that car with that man and even just interacting with him I felt like he was going to hit me or something. Didn't catch his name but the main old guy up front was so rude from the get go. My car passed smog but the next day, I noticed my AC went out completely. I have a 2016 Mercedes which has less than 50,000 miles on it. Called them to see if they can fix it and he blew up on me. He says they have nothing to do with air conditioning and don't touch anything ac related and just started screaming at me saying they didn't do anything. He said I need to maintain my car and get my oil changed and service done to my car and they just do smog checks (just got done 2 months ago ). Wait what? Why was he getting so defensive when I wasn't even calling to blame him? First of all, i take my car in for every service and take my car in to the dealer for all my oil changes. I have never been treated so poorly like that especially from a shop. I get it, I'm a girl in my 30s so I know I'm prone to getting taken advantage of by car shops. But to be treated in this manner was beyond me. I hate dealing with car mechanics because I always feel a little vulnerable since I don't know much about cars which is why I usually take it to the dealer but man, that guy is terrible!!!! I went there because they advertise that they "provide on-site, same day registration services such as Vehicle Registration Renewal". They don't. I was told that "we did that 5 or 6 years ago".
