OC Auto Service (known as Nick's Auto Service in the past) is an independent small business auto repair shop in Irvine. My experiences with OC Auto Service have been excellent! REPAIRS TO ORIGINAL AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. The original factory-installed air conditioning system on an older model 2003 MB coupe had stopped working (no air was blowing out of the double vents on the center console of the car). When I called OC Auto Service, Mason (owner) answered the phone and listened to the description of the A/C problem. I requested an appointment to get an A/C repair estimate. After asking a few more detailed questions about the A/C problem, Mason scheduled an appointment to inspect and test the car's air conditioning system in the OC Auto Service repair shop. INSPECTION, TESTING AND A/C REPAIR ESTIMATE. When I brought the car to the repair shop, I was promptly greeted by Mason. The repair shop is well-equipped to evaluate, identify, trouble-shoot and repair different models of cars. Since I needed to leave the car in the repair shop for the day, Mason arranged for a driver to safely return me to my home. Mason is very professional, knowledgeable, courteous and dedicated to positive customer service. The entire repair shop is well-maintained and clean. I felt very confident leaving my car at OC Auto Service for all inspection and testing services. After the auto mechanic determined the cause of the air conditioning problem, Mason called me with an A/C repair estimate. The A/C repair estimate was fair. By telephone, I authorized the repair and asked Mason to check the car's other systems, including brakes and tires, because the car had over 130,000 miles on the odometer. WORN-OUT BRAKE PADS, LEAKING VALVES AND DETERIORATED VALVE COVERS. Following a system inspection by experienced auto mechanics (Christian and Pancho), I decided to replace all worn-out brakes, several leaking valves and some deteriorated valve covers. All repair estimates were fair and reasonable. Due to the extra repair work, the car needed to stay in the shop overnight, pending arrival of some extra auto parts for the car. TEST DRIVING CAR BEFORE RETURNING CAR TO OWNER. Before returning the car to me, Mason drove the car himself to make sure everything was working well, including the air conditioning system and new brakes. Everything seemed fine. Then Mason contacted me and delivered the car to me. I paid by credit card and received an itemized receipt for my records. Everything was straightforward, transparent and professional. We had just moved to Irvine from Hawaii and our Toyota Prius Prime started to leak something that looked like antifreeze so we took it into (Nick's) OC Auto Service and they went above and beyond to take care of the vehicle as well as us! They did pressurized testing and found that there wasn't anything wrong with the radiator or anything else, and even did the 6-month maintenance check at the same time. The total price for both of these services, including tax, came out to $102.xx! The incredible value for such outstanding quality was literally unparalleled in our experiences. Came in frantic this morning; my tire valve cap fell into my wheel after I filled it with air at a local gas station. The guy at the front desk was relaxed on the phone, told me he could supply me with a valve cap lickety-split when I came in. It was early, so not many places were open; I was grateful they could help me on such short notice. Once I got there, I was helped within 5 minutes. I asked how much it cost, and he said "don't worry about it, we've got caps laying around." I would go back again. Well, bring my vehicle in for alignment, quoted $90 on the phone if it's basic toe adjustment, end up spending $123. I was like if it's good work then I don't care how much. Oh boy was I wrong! The steering wheel was off center to begin with, they did not even touch camber or caster, caster was even less then beginning. The adjustment nut was brand new not a single tool mark on them. Plus when I look at the alignment sheet, the after results was not even in spec. On the other hand, the owner was very nice, extremely nice to be honest, but I would rather have the vehicle fixed right the first time with no bs no dishonesty. Went to another shop and they are honest and did the camber and caster. AVOID this place at all cost, when trust and integrity are the issue, there is no coming back. May this place rotten in time. See, owner is so quick to respond to negative review and instead of simple apology, went full on denial and sugarcoating themselves. He should be in marketing instead of auto repair. Went here for a second opinion to get the battery and alternator checked and at the very least the alternator replaced. Already knew something was wrong with the alternator and just wanted it to properly get tested and confirmed. The testing process, whatever they used to test it, cost around $118 including an "environmental fee" which is high enough. For whatever reason the environmental service fee is included for testing a battery and the alternator is beyond me. Got a decent response from the guy behind the counter, but when the situation was explained to the mechanic, he just kept assuming what was wrong without hearing the full details. It was near closing time so the car had to be left there overnight and simply had to wait for a call the next day. Next day, got the call and was informed that the issue is the alternator and the total cost for all of it will be $1400. It's an absolute criminal cost for an issue like this and it would take them until the end of the week to complete the service. Apparently they didn't have the alternator and had to order it which wouldn't arrive until the end of the week saying stores nearby didn't carry the required alternator -- and according to this guy, "it's labor intensive" which supposedly justifies the $1400. Declined that service and immediately picked up the car. Ended up getting the car serviced elsewhere and guess what, the TOTAL cost was $485 for a new alternator and oil change which only took them 3 to 4 hours to do! $485 against Nick's Auto Service's $1400! (Really the real total when testing is included brings it to $1518 so it's even worse) I don't know what the hell Nick's Auto Service was trying to pull, but that was absolutely unacceptable. If you're experiencing a similar problem, find help somewhere else to avoid unnecessary charges they impose on you. read more

I came across Nicks after a loss of oil pressure on the freeway on my classic car on a Saturday. I was concerned since not every shop can work or is willing to work on my classic British car. AAA recommended Nicks and there we went with the tow truck. Upon arrival I felt right at home and was impressed by the organization and cleanliness of the shop. Nick's Auto Service was a huge win for me for several reasons. 1. My battery died, and I tried to tow it to their shop after hours. They have have a gate so DO NOT take it here after they close. I dropped it off at a nearby open lot and was worried that it would get towed by said business to an impound lot. Luckily, it did not get towed to an impound lot, and Mason had the Nick's tow truck come and take it back to their shop. NO CHARGE. 2. They gave me an estimate that was higher than the actual cost in the end. So they dropped their price! 3. I just had a brake light go out a day prior and they fixed it for free. 4. They also inspected another issue with my car and provided an estimate for my next potential visit. All of these could've been legitimate additional charges along with the battery, but they didn't charge. For that, I'm very thankful. These 4 things along with outstanding customer service from Brandon, (who answered all of my questions when I called) Mason and Mark will definitely make me a customer again. If you're in the area. I am from out of town and was referred this service from the company that towed my car- When we arrived we knew they were only open til 2 (it was a Saturday.) Originally, they said they couldn't work on my car til Monday morning- (omg noo!!) so I pleaded my case of being out of town, was there any way etc,.They saw my dire situation, so they assessed my car, saw it was the alternator- & ordered the parts to try & get it done today. () I was in town for my kids sports tournament, so left to watch 1/2 of game- I called Nicks an hour later & they said they had the wrong alternator- so going to try and get the one that works, but not a done deal. Ughhh, this point it's at ~2pm. So said he'd call back at 4 (on his cell because the shop was closed). At this point in my mind I had conceded that I'm not getting my car back til at least Sunday (they're closed Sundays) but prob Monday, thinking about rentals, Uber rides, needing to get back for work etc & trying to not worry about it. But when you're from out of town, don't know your way around & need to manage your high energy 9 yr old while helping your 16 yr get to his games- it's very distressing. Well I'm SO thankful to report that Chavez from Nicks called at ~4:10 saying the car is good & ready for pick up in 20 min! Hooray!!!! BEST news ever! I've never been happier to be back in my car! My wife was in Irvine and couldn't get her car started. So I drove over from our home to jump her car, and I figured I'd try to get the battery replaced at the same time. Called Nick's Auto and asked if they had a battery for our car (gave them year, make, model) and if they could replace it that day. The guy on the phone said, "Yeah, just bring it down before we close and we'll take care of it today," and quoted me $225 (parts/labor). That's pretty high, but I wanted to get it taken care of right then. So I rushed over right after getting my wife's car started (since it was near closing time), and they said, "Well, there was a good chance we had the battery, but we don't. Do you want to leave it here?" I thought to myself, "Dude, I went out of my way to get here and I rushed over, based on what you told me." So I went home. The next day, I called the local auto shop I usually go to (they're a 5-star Yelp place and are always booked). They quoted me $125 (parts/labor) and were able to squeeze us in right away. *Nick's Auto was asking DOUBLE what my local shop charged.* I would have gone with my local shop in the first place, but I was in a rush to get this fixed right away.
