Listen, I give a lot of leeway to service workers as I've been in the industry and I know how stressful things can get, especially when you're in the middle of a rush. But I go here at least every other day for the past 6 months and yesterday was the last straw. So I took advantage of the $1.49 strawberries and the $2.99 Red Baron pizzas. I had all of my coupons clipped and was checking out at the self check out area. I overhear two of the older workers, talking crap about a younger, seemingly much newer person, which I thought was super rude and clicky but it's not my business. There was quite a few people, but not enough to call it a rush. As I finished checking out, I scan my rewards card, and since I'm not super savvy with using the coupons app, I asked the nearest representative to guide me on how to use it. She takes one look at my screen, and she says " You already scanned it." I replied, "No I didn't, I scanned my rewards card." She continue to argue with me about it, like I'm telling you I didn't scan my coupon in the smiths app? Why are you trying to fight me with it. So I showed her on the screen that I didn't get the discount for the $1.49 for the strawberries and the $2.99 pizzas. She then let out a forced sigh and reprimanded me because I'm not supposed to scan my rewards card and the coupon in the Smith's app. I had no idea that was some thing that I wasn't supposed to do so I apologized and said if you can void everything, I can ring myself up again. She then decided to yell to her worker friend all the way across the self checkout area "HEY THIS LADY SCANNED HER REWARDS CARD AND NOW SHES TRYING TO USE HER COUPONS IN THE APP AND OBVIOUSLY SHES NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT!!" I was really embarrassed, but I kept standing there for some reason, hoping maybe the next lady would be nice. The lady who yelled across the area, through my phone down and told me to wait there as she walked away. The next lady walked over a few seconds later, and she asked me what the problem is. I explained the issue, and she looked at me and side like I was inconveniencing her. At this point there was a huge rush, and it looked like nobody else's coupons in the app working as well. I can completely understand frustration, so I was trying to be as patient as possible. She did her thing, and she pressed a bunch of buttons got it to work, and as I was looking at the screen to make sure that all of the coupon so I clicked did show up on the screen, she handed me my phone back to me, and said here, didn't even give me a second to respond and screamed at me "I SAID HERE!" I'm really not one to write reviews unless I really love a place or I am completely done with the place. I give a lot of places a lot of chances, so it really doesn't happen very often, but I am appalled for two things, one, how are you going to make fun of one of your coworkers in front of other customers? That's super unprofessional. Y'all are like what 50 years old? Grow the fuck up. Second of all, I understand it gets stressful during rushes, but every single time that I go to my self check out, I always get dirty looks from the older workers, nobody's helpful, they all seem to have an attitude when you ask them for help, which is why I try my best not to bother them. And it's fine for me, because I don't usually need a lot of help, but you work in an area where there's an older demographic. You should be more patient and more understanding with your customers. These older women should really be ashamed of themselves conducting their attitudes like that. read more

I'm not a fan of this store.. but it is convenient when I'm short on time... Cooking an all out bbq chicken dinner and needed a can of beans.. also saw this pastry and it looked like a cream puff.. I guess it's the parking lot, and how narrow the aisles are.. I always feel like shoppers are always walking behind me close and fast.. even when I'm heading to the door, I can feel them I'm a hurry.. and just feel they are rude. Smith's became my main place to get groceries from several years ago. Besides the low prices, they have an app where you can "clip" digital coupons and you get points on all your purchases. The points you earn can get you up to $1 off per gallon (up to 35 gallons of fuel) so the savings really adds up! You can also get up to 4x points on gift card purchases so if you were to eat out, go shopping or even buy plane tickets, you'll have tons of points. This is the only Smith's I've been to in the last 8 years, but it's usually a pleasant experience for performing an errand. Usually well stocked and clean. The prices are good when; on sale, Private Selection/Kroger brands, and BOGO's. Otherwise, the prices are average. I don't eat sushi (*gasp*!), but my wife says the sushi she has had there is pretty good (and she's pretty picky.) The bakery and meat/seafood dept has good quality eats as well. I almost always end up in Aida's (I hope I have her name right!) line, and that is to my benefit. She is so quick scanning I can hardly keep up with her loading the belt! She is super friendly and helpful and I enjoy seeing her on my weekly grocery runs. read more

Let's just start off by saying I work in a restaurant I have a huge amount of patients when it comes to being busy and all that but I have been ordering here since I moved here two years ago and Everytime they are late or pushing my order back by multiple hours. What is the point of time slots If every time it's pushed back and I'm told to have patience because they got overwhelmed with the amount of orders even the assistant manager is rude when asked about it. Not only are they late but they don't use the app for subs and I'm expected to just take the items I don't want it's absolutely ridiculous that Everytime I'm made to feel bad for using your services. What are to try something a little different because my friends have been raving about Smith's. So I attempted to do an online order at Smith's. Of the items I found on their website everything looked like it was in stock because nothing told me it was out of stock. Only when my personal shopper was going through my list of items did she discover over 50% of what I was looking for and had put in my cart was unavailable. Things like large toilet paper packs, assorted chips bag, that were the most expensive items on my list. My shopper, bless her heart, communicated with me all the things that she was unable to find and offered suggestions for other products. Unfortunately, I was not interested in substitutions of off brands so, she promptly gave me a credit for the items that were out of stock. I guess I wouldn't be as unhappy if I had not had to pay the $10 delivery fee plus the tip for my shopper. So I basically paid about $20 for a $25's worth shopping. Not a bargain. Seems to me in instances arise when the store does not have the majority of what's on your shopping list, they should offer some type of service recovery, as in a $10 coupon to pay for your next delivery. It's too bad their inventory system isn't accurate enough to tell you when something is out of stock. I will not be making this mistake again with Smith's and will stick to Raleys where I usually shop, because they have better accountability and service. Two stars is a gift. read more

This review is really for the pharmacy, not the grocery store...which is ok for packaged goods but everything I've gotten from the deli and fresh wasn't so good. So I wish I could combine a pharmacy trip with grocery shopping but not so much - hence 4 stars instead of 5. The pharmacy though - so great in some really important ways. First, they're open super late during the week - 9 pm! This makes life way easier for picking up prescriptions. I seem to be the only person picking up prescriptions at 8:30 pm so never have to wait. At all. I have called with questions or for status earlier in the day once or twice; they do seem very very busy. Luckily the pharmacy staff clued me in to the online My Pharmacy system so it will text me when a prescription is ready - no need to call, yay! Also they're delivering prescriptions free until 5/31/2021 so that's pretty great. But I saved the best for last. This pharmacy saves me so much money for prescriptions! I have pretty good health insurance and normally use it for prescriptions, and pay not unreasonable copays, usually like $10 a month for generics. It never occurred to me to use anything else. BUT the Kroger Rx program is amazingly cheap. It's $36 for a YEAR to join and there is one medication I got totally free! Another med was going to be like $53 (for three months, still not bad) through Kroger RX but they let me use GoodRx instead and it was $10! for a three month supply! The pharmacist was pretty surprised and had no idea that would be true, so I was glad to have looked the price online first at GoodRx.com. I used to get all my prescriptions from CVS and they don't have anything that gets drugs as cheap as the KrogerRX club - which I think is also only $72 for a whole family for a year. 100000% worth it if you need any medications regularly. I haven't had to wait to pick up, but I think also I'd be a lot more willing to put up with that, knowing how much money I can save by using this pharmacy. Oh, and I don't know why I keep going inside - the pharmacy has a drive through, so convenient. I will try it next time :-) read more

COVID-times. First visit early November (2020) Masks required. Reusable bags allowed. Self checkout available. Well-stocked with fresh produce at reasonable/average prices unless they're on sale. They have arrows on the aisles in hopes to guide the foot traffic in 1 direction per aisle so people don't need to cross paths in close proximity but no one seems to pay attention to those.. *sigh* Don't forget to download their app where you can sign up for their free rewards card for the discounted prices and clip coupons for extra discounts! I scan the items in the app as I put them in my cart/basket and it'll show you the sale price and let you know if there are any available coupons for the item that week! Huge store, very well stocked, lots of in-house branded items for lower prices (I like their snacks and yogurt), ENORMOUS parking lot (shared with the other stores in the plaza). It'll be one of my go-to stores I shop at biweekly, if not weekly! read more

DON'T ORDER CAKES FROM SMITH'S BAKERY!!! I had a horribly embarrassing and humiliating experience ordering a large birthday cake from Smith's for a 70th birthday surprise party for over 100 people at a public venue. I ordered a sheetcake ONE WEEK in advance with the bakery at Smith's, South Meadows. It was intricately designed, a marble cake with white buttercream frosting, blue and red decorative borders, red lettering, and a decorative cocktail kit. I called the bakery the day before to check on my order, and was told it would be ready the next day at noon. The next day, TWO HOURS before pickup I got a call from someone that my order was CANCELLED!!!! A woman from the bakery said the cake decorator didn't show up for work and there was nothing they could do. I panicked because it was too late to order from another bakery. I called the store manager and begged him to do something. Their solution was to give me an old cake from the freezer. It was the wrong flavor, wrong size, and so old the frosting was cracked. The lettering on the cake looked like it was done by a 5 year old. I had no choice at that point but to bring it out and serve it at the party. People made jokes about the cake, the lettering, and how old and stale it was. It was embarrassing!!! For me and the guest of honor!! Even worse, the next day when I called the store manager, Jill Koitma, she listened to my complaint, but never called me back to offer any compensation. She admitted the bakery has problems and an extremely unreliable cake decorator who calls out sick frequently. So why take orders?!?! I am disgusted with Smith's, for ruining my birthday cake surprise and their lack of concern for customer service. Shame on those unreliable bakery employees and a store manager who could care less about the people who shop there. Never going to Smith's again!!! read more

I have been shopping with Smith's for over 15 years and it is really going down hill in the South Meadows store. First of all the carts are so dirty and have been since before covid. There are not enough clerks or baggers to help the few clerks that are working. I have been a loyal customer of Smiths on South Meadows since moving to Reno in 2005. The staff are quick, friendly and helpful. Shout out to Leone, Bonnie and Dean (the man in customer service with long curly hair.) I REALLY hate to do the grocery shopping but they make the job very pleasant. This review is strictly for the deli. Smiths is a beautiful store with great meat and produce and also some aggressive sale prices. However their deli is a complete cluster. I came in on 1/2/22 to get some deli meat and cheese. There were no other deli customers and 4 staff members behind the deli counter. They all looked at me, proceeded to keep talking to each other, turned their backs and ignored me. I waited and waited and no one even said we will be with you shortly. Finally, tired of being ignored, I asked if I could place my order and I got a serious dose of bad attitude. They practically threw the food at me and complained that they had to clean the machine when I ordered a second meat. Guess what? That's your job! I don't want to hear you complain about doing the job you were hired for. It's too bad because it's a beautiful deli with a wonderful selection including Boars Head products but I will not be back. This is a review for Roshi Sushi inside the South Meadows Smiths. The sushi is fresh, delicious and a good value. I've ordered party platters a few times now in the past year. I called in an order yesterday midday thinking that it might not be enough notice but the sushi chef said it was not a problem. There isn't a party menu online but the chef let me know there are many options from $20-$100. I picked a price point and he created a platter based on just a few questions like whether I liked cooked or raw and that I didn't want anything spicy. The platter I picked was $30 and was more than enough for me and two friends. Stopped at Smith's to pick up a few items to take to a friends house for dinner. At the register, I got asked if I had a Smith's reward card. When I told the clerk I was from out of town and didn't have one, he opened his till, pulled out a discount card and deducted $4 bucks off my items. Best grocery store around! It's my go-to for everything minus bulk items, which I usually buy from Winco (also highly rated). I'm sometimes here twice a day because they have such great deals if you look really hard. By this I mean in each aisle they have little white tags that read "closeout deal" and prices are ridiculously marked down. This is typically on items that aren't selling. For example, a brand such as Nabisco will come out with some crazy flavor of a cracker, chip, or cookie and it sits on the shelf for months. I like trying new, crazy things so of course I am going to be the one to buy a weird bag of chips for 50 cents. Recently, they were selling Quaker granola cereal for $1.07/box (normally $4.99). The flavor was apple/mango, which I really loved and ended up going back to buy a couple more boxes and gave them to friends and family. I also love having the app on my phone so I can browse my account online while I shop to add digital coupons for when I check out. My addiction to this place is that bad! Two thumbs up! read more

I wouldn't shop here unless you want your card information stolen. My mom used her ebt card at this location and a day after her benefits were stolen. We went to the store today to talk to a manager and she immediately started attacking us saying that it was impossible for them to have a skimmer because they checked every day. With how low staffed they are and the amount of thugs that work there I highly doubt that's possible. She got angry that we even asked and she stated "what would it help" when I asked her to check the transactions for that day or even the cameras. Another nice visit to this local grocery store. Customer service is always spot and the employees are very helpful. Why did you only leave four stars? Well, regarding the self checkout I find it vwry frustrating sometimes especially when you may have many items. Where the frustration comes from is when you are checking items and placing them in the bags; you can not and I repeat, you can not remove the bag or else the machine will keep telling you to replace the items in order to continue. If you have many items, it is impossible to keep everything on that bag turntable because you eventually run out of room and need to transfer some of those bags in to your cart.... the problem is, the machine will not let you. Completely incompetent cashier Olga LIED to me! 3/27/24 at 4:44pm no: 378 6 212 32. This cashier needs to be written up! The female manager who came over also had no idea what she was talking about and didn't listen to me at all. I walked up to pay for a water and asked what the limit was on cash back. She said "over $100 is $3.50." So I chose $60, which should have been free. A 75 cent fee flashed across the screen and she pushed a button to accept it. I told her I did not agree to a fee and that she had lied to me that there would only be a fee over $100! She tried to say that she hadn't said that! I know exactly what she said and my son was standing right there and heard it too! I told her I wanted her to cancel the entire transaction and show me a receipt that it had been reversed. She said she couldn't give me a receipt. So I asked for the manager. I heard the cashier tell the manager as they walked over that she didn't do anything and now I am "pissed off." I tried to explain what happened and the manager didn't listen to me at all but said there was no way the cashier did anything wrong and ROLLED HER EYES at me! She got the machine to spit out a zero dollar transaction receipt, but it didn't show the $60 plus water transaction reversed. I still don't know if the original $60 charge went through. The manager said there was no way the cashier could have accepted the fee, but she pressed something that made the fee on my screen flash and go away. That is why I stopped and told her I didn't agree to it! She should have told me there was a 75 cent fee in the first place! Now I have to contest the transaction at my bank?! A year ago i had way too many items for self scan and i asked a worker walking by if there wad a checkstand open and she went off on me about how she will just end her break early to check me out. I tried to make a complaint then but got no where because somehow its my fault they are understaffed. She could of told me to wait ten minutes and one would be open instead of going off on me. Tonight while checking myself out and having too many items for self scan- i missed 10$ cat litter. I had the checker guy watching everyone already standing over me because i was trying to figure out how to do kroger pay and checking on everyone around me. Never once spoke to me. The worst experience I have ever had. Placed an order online for a cake, 2 n half days before my occasion (requires 24 hours). I have the confirmation email. I call the day of pick up the bakery girl tells me she does not see any cake in their fridge, she checks her computer and tells me she doesn't see any order in their system either and tells me she's sorry. I call the store again to speak to the store manager if he can resolve the issue, person who answers transferred me to the manager, I am on hold for about 5 minutes. I hang up and call again and I am told that the manager is in a meeting, can she help me with anything? I explained the whole situation to her she puts me on hold again and never comes back. I'm on hold again waiting for some one to answer. I hang up and call one more time but they didn't even answer this time. Thanks allot for ruining our special day, I thought Smiths still have their customer service standards but you failed. Congratulations on your failure. Imagine this: you're camping for the weekend, but you have to stock up all of your groceries when out of town. You know exactly what to get in your own grocery store, but you could wander the aisles aimlessly at some grocery store in a city you don't know. Enter Smith's. I was in that very predicament, as I flew into Reno for some work but planned to camp afterwards. I have my own rhythm and my own go-to camping foods right here near my own hometown, but would I be able to find them in Reno? When I realized it was a Smith's town (a branch of the Kroger company) I was relieved. We sauntered in and I was sure we'd be just fine. Indeed, after 45 minutes or so, the cart was full of things we needed. Freshly sliced lunch meat, cheese, bread, condiments, pancake mix, syrup, eggs, buns, and of course copious amounts of snacks and treats for the trip. The layout was very similar to the one near my home, but this is a bigger store. I was thrown off by the placement of chips and treats, but other than that, the only other glaring difference is the presence of alcohol. I always forget when not in Utah, grocery stores can sell wine and liquor. They had a selection of the stuff, but I grabbed a sixer of ginger beer. No drinking for me! It's clean, it's big, it has plenty of parking, and it was convenient to our location to get groceries home and in the fridge. Like seeing a friend while you're on vacation, it was a happy reunion and we made the most of our time together. read more

It's so incredibly frustrating when you order from the Smiths Deli. I ordered a 1/2 pound rotisserie boars head chicken lunch meat and 10 slices boars head white American cheese, and I would assume there was a some sort of common sense when you asked for 10 slices of cheese you assume it would be for a sandwich or a cheeseburger but the cheese was slice so thin it was just a clump and almost paper thin! When I tried to pick The lunch meat up it was almost shaved it just came off already chewed up it was so frustrating. My wrap looked almost like I took the meat and cheese and put it in a food processor and put it into a Smiths bag. Needless to say my chicken wrap was ugly! My girlfriend thought I was exaggerating when I talked about how thin the meat was and the cheese. Needless to say tomorrow I will be going back to Smith's to actually get cheese slices I'm hoping for our cheese burgers. Smith's service has always been great. The butchers and the fish mongers are always so accommodating. Cashiers are friendly and will always help you to find what you want. I give them a 5 for service. There meat out of the case is a 4. There prepackaged chicken for $1.99 a pack taste like rubber and I think they load it with a lot of preservatives. There fish out of the case is a 3, only because they do not offer a great deal of wild caught fish, mostly farm raises. Stay away from their baked goods and their breads from the bakery. It is definitely a 2, unless you buy the baguette, which is decent. Raleys has the best French baguette for a grocery store. There deli is a 4 with great quality lunch meats from Boars and a pretty decent olive and tapenade bar. The one thing that really impresses me is the poke! Really good and I definitely say buy it and try it. Get a rewards card and sign up for their Friday deals where every Friday, you can download a coupon for their free item of the week. Walking around the store, their employees act like they are in Daytona Beach for spring break. Gathering, congregating, milling around. Many with their masks dangling from their ears. When I asked a manager if masks were required for employees she said "They are required but they can't enforce it." Really?!?! And then she gave me attitude saying many of their employees have PTSD and can't wear masks. Then they shouldn't be at work! Not wearing a mask at all is less offensive then having it hang off one ear in a big "I don't give a crap" symbolic gesture. I hated that dirty store before and went in out of convenience yesterday. This one is easy; why would I want to continue to shop at a place that makes me change my spending habits, forcing me to use a debit card exclusively? But when I decided to succumb to their rule, this happened: the day before payday I have about $130 in my account. I decide to pick up dinner items at Smith's on my way home but first stop at the Smith's gas pump for $30 in gas. Using my required debit card, they pre-authorize $125 at the pump, leaving me with s negative balance and unable to go inside the store to purchase the dinner items. By the time I got home empty handed, the authorization fell off and I had my money back. Do I drive back, or say F U Smith's!? I think the latter read more

When you shop the sales, they are a pretty good store. Everyone very friendly and helpful. My concern is with the sushi guy. First he does not know the difference between farm raised sushi vs Wild Caught. All Atlantic Salmon is farm raised. For someone who makes sushi to not know the difference between the fish is pretty outrageous. In addition, they are now giving you less sushi rolls. It used to be 12 rolls now it is only 10. It would be helpful if the people making the sushi to know their ingredients and be able to understand what the customer is saying as the sushi guy in this store can barely speak English.... Telling me only use top notch sushi fish but unable to say or understand the difference between farm raised and wild caught. I did not buy any sushi for my family... Nor do zi recommend anyone buy from this vendor. 2 stars of friendly Smiths employees. read more
