This is our family supermarket. The times we go to other markets if they have special sales on meat/Staples. But this is our day in and day out super market. We've been coming here for so long, all of the workers know us. It is always nice to be greeted personally when we come. An interesting, sidenote: pretty much everything you can find at Raleys. You can find here but at 25% to 50% cheap cheaper. I always wonder why more people don't shop here. Also, one of my favorite sales Every few months is the case lot sale. We don't utilize it as much as we used to, but when five kids we're living at home, it was really nice to buy cases of spaghetti sauce, tomato paste, beans, flour, sugar at huge discount prices. It's so hard to feed a large family on a budget. They have a fairly decent selection of organic food however, for a family of seven, you find out it's extremely expensive, trying to eat healthy. I'm not sure if this is a sister chain to Harris teeter but it gave me very similar vibes. Big produce selection, and some nice GF bread options which you don't find often. They had an area that had a big salad bar with so many olive options that reminded me of HT. The place was clean and easy to navigate. Okay, so let's talk about my beef shank saga. I've been on this little mission to make some German comfort food, and beef shanks were the star of the show. Found them listed at $3.99/lb (a total unicorn price, btw), so I hit the trail, Carson in the morning? None. Carson at night? Still none. Dayton? Nope. Finally, I call the Smith's on South Meadows Parkway and they tell me yes, they've got them. I head over all excited... and guess what? Zip. Nada. No shanks. At this point, I could've given up, but I called again the next morning. The meat department gentleman was super nice and even asked what time I'd be coming in so they could hold some for me. I show up at 1 p.m. nothing on the shelf. But then I see this one employee stocking meat and ask if he can check. A few minutes later, out comes "Leon the Butcher" yes, that's what I'm calling him now he's hit rockstar status) carrying a huge tray of freshly cut beef shanks, smiling like he just saved the day because he totally did. Freshest meat ever. Best service I've had in a long time. Leon, you're a legend, my friend. This place is quickly becoming my favorite store, fresh olive bar, cleanest deli and meat case area, above and beyond customer service and now Mr. Leon. Thank you so much! read more

I walked into the store and immediately noticed a cockroach crawling through the produce section. What was even more shocking was that several employees walked right past it without reacting, as if it was completely normal. The floors were filthy, covered in dirt and grime, and the entire store looked poorly maintained. Seeing a roach near fresh produce and the overall lack of cleanliness made me seriously question the store's sanitation standards. read more

I shop here often as it is close to home. I like the digital deals that they offer. I like the layout of the store but their is a few areas I am not happy about. The produce section is quite small and they don't have a lot of variety. The store in Lemon Valley has a better produce department. Many times I try to shop in the produce area and the worker blocks the isles with his cart. I get ignored, not a word from him. There is only one produce man who has been polite. One I saw throwing the apples into the bin, one after another. Does he not know they get bruises? The other issue is that rarely do they have several cashiers open at the same time even with lines. When I have a cart full, I don't want to use quick check as I have problems scanning produce. The bakery has a Smith's bread that I like a lot. I can never find it in the bakery section but sometimes I find it in the mark-down cart. I can't quite figure that one out. I like to shop the discounts and often they do have them but if a the start of the week many are already gone after the weekend. Overall, this is my store of choice. read more

Best beer prices when on sale, as long as you use their digital coupons. I get my produce and meats here also. But recently, I have been giving their competitors a try for produce. Tried their sushi a few times; it is only good for emergencies in my opinion. Atmosphere - Have the following departments - Starbucks, pharmacy, floral, bakery, deli, etc. Open 7 days a week from 6am to midnight. Plenty of mall parking. Service - Self service, so great. Majority of the time, the team is great. Price - Very reasonable. Their advertised items are inexpensive. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1911. 1911 - L. Smith. 1932 - Smith's & Son's Market. 1952 - Smith's Super Market. 1997 - Bought by Fred Meyer. 1998 - Bought by Kroger, their current parent company. Most incompetent workers I've seen in a while!!! They NEVER have my prescriptions on time even when I call and ask the time they will be ready!! I've had them fight me on my meds and even had them not give me one of them. When I called to talk to someone about it they told me they would call me back never did. My most recent time here the guy literally pushed my wallet off the counter and onto the ground while handing me my ID back. Disappointing they used to be good until they hired new people. read more

I've never been into a Smith's before. This was my first experience with the store. The bakery area has a wide variety of baked goods, and is very nicely organized, but there's no place to talk to anyone who works in the bakery. There's no "Order Here" counter, no "Custom Cake" display binder, and no one visible in the bakery section. I had to ask a worker in the deli for help and she was able to get someone from way back behind the bakery wall for me. I placed an in-store order for a custom cake on 06/10 to be ready on 06/12. There was no order form and no custom cake book to reference for decorations or colors. I asked the bakery worker for a double layered round marble cake with pink frosting and hot pink writing to say Happy Birthday, and to have 'typical' birthday decorations like flowers or balloons. She wrote everything down on a blank piece of paper. The cake was ready the morning of 06/12, but I had to peek my head behind the bakery wall to find anyone to help me as there was no one in sight out in the bakery section. The young lady was very nice and retrieved my order. I looked at the cake there, in the bakery, and was really disappointed, but didn't say anything to the young lady because there really wasn't anything she could do to help. There were no decorations on the cake (save for the piping around the cake), the lettering was not hot pink and it was poorly written. We ate the cake later that day, and we were pleasantly surprised with the flavor. The "marble" cake was more like vanilla cake with a few small streaks of chocolate, but it was moist and tasted good. The whipped vanilla icing was also good without being overly sweet. I had asked for the same frosting to be used between the layers and, it was, but it was barely there. Overall, I would buy another cake here but would not wait for decorations or place another custom cake order. On the plus side, I used the self checkout and the young lady working there was incredibly friendly and helpful. read more

I ordered for online pickup at 8 am to pickup between 11 and 12. I got here at 11 and they said it wasn't ready yet. Came back at 12. Waited until 12.30 and I called them because no one had come up with my order. They said it would be another 30 minutes. It is now 1.30. I have waited here for a hour and a half for my groceries which was supposed to be ready by 11-12 mind you. I have a chronic illness and grocery shopping is extremely difficult. I took my neighbor to Smith's the other day. For groceries He can't walk. He has to use an electric chair. He has edemia, really bad well. Smiths changed their coupons to digital. He asked one of the associates how to work it. They didn't know he asked another associate, they didn't know. Then, he asked the manager manager did not know either. He said, who knows anything about the coupons here? And the manager told him, you could shop somewhere else. Go on, get out of here. I am boycotting Smiths, because of that, and I reported it to corporate. Management works directly with the public. They cannot respond and act like that. In any shape, form or manner. This store has been my go-to since we moved to Reno almost 9 years ago. I enjoy shopping there and utilizing their digital coupons. In addition they have some clearance racks that have products like breads, donuts, and fresh produce that are nearing the end of its shelf life. On top of it all, they offer gas credits for using your own reusable bags. But I especially wanted to thank their pharmacy department. I had a rough week where I needed to pick up multiple prescriptions almost every other day due to our whole family having issues. Audrey, Danielle and the rest of the ladies were super sympathetic of my situation and were always trying to help expedite the process. The product made at the Smith's bakery is great. In fact, they're far better than some of the fancy stand alone bakeries. We ordered 6 dozen cupcakes for our baby shower and they were a hit! People kept asking where we ordered them from and never would have expected Smiths. We did half vanilla and half chocolate with colors of frosting to match out theme and then added cake toppers from Amazon. They looked great and the price was stellar! Just be careful to confirm you order prior as they were short some but made up for it as they had extra frosting left over. read more

Happy to have ventured into Smith's today while my son was across the street at the dentist. I wasn't able to find a specialty item there, but I love going to the bakery and the deli area, and I was very happy to find lady fingers and sponge cake for my trifle recipe I am going to try out for the holidays. Smith's is owned by Kroger, which also owns an online vitamin site, Vitacost, that I frequent quite bit for health food related items and vitamins. I trust that site and hence, I am very happy with the foods that Smith's has in their store. The store is well laid out and always busy. I will be back for my holiday baking needs read more

We shopped at Smith's for almost 25 years, 22 years in Henderson and for the past three years since we moved to Reno at Smith's Food and Drug at 750 S Meadows. We are senior citizens and almost always had cordial and professional service until a few days ago. While my wife was at the cashier's check out and almost done this person by the name of Chris grudgingly took over and relieved the cashier from his shift who was almost done with us. Prio to that, we noticed that he was badmouthing and complaining about another colleague or personnel in the store very loudly with this cashier. He came in a very irate and agitated state. At the end of transaction, my wife asked him a simple question about a purchase she made a week ago where she bought four mangoes and explained two were rotten and what should she do. With a loud and high-pitched voice, he said ' mam get you receipt and go to the returns dept pointing to it and talk to them'. My wife said I don't have it as I tear them up when I find my check all my purchase is correct. Then he started to raise his voice and, in a condescending, demeaning and insulting way chided as if she was a shoplifter in front of all the other customers in line, 'then there's nothing you can do about it, as we are not sure if you bought did buy this or that'. You can claim that you bought something very expensive and want a refund, how are we supposed to know if it's true or not. Moreover, I get thousands of customers each day and don't expect me to remember every one of them.' He went on and on and on demeaning and insulting my wife. She told him he didn't have to talk like that. He replied, you heard what I said, do you understand! I don't have to repeat it again! When I intervened and told him to talk nicely and not be rude, he insulted and pointed at me and said, 'That goes for you as well, SIR!' We have never been so insulted and talked down like this by anyone in any store in our entire lives and were just dumbfounded. All the other shoppers and workers around noticed that, as he was very loud. We asked one of the workers to get us the manager. They immediately called him, and he arrived in less than a minute. His name was Justin, who was a very kind, understanding, and highly professional gentleman. He told the lady at the Returns to pay back the cost incurred on those rotten mangoes which was not much, but it was the principle, and Justin took care of it without any fanfare unlike that rude, crude and obnoxious person, Chris. When we arrived home rather shaken, I called Justin to thank him. I made a formal complaint, and he listened very patiently and attentively and assured us that he will talk to Chris before he leaves. I went of the reviews on this Smith's store and there he was, complaints of him being rude, crude, obnoxious and treating other workers in a condescending, demeaning and insulting way. This man surely needs anger management as he creates a very toxic, hostile and unpleasant environment not only for his coworkers but to customers as well. Smith's or Kroger's Corporation should look into it and check out the security videos of him before more harm is caused to their interest. read more

But when you place an order for pick up, take 2pm time slot, get a call not to come until 4, show up at 4 and are told to come back at 6, show up at 6 only to find out that there are out of stock items, its just isn't worth saving a buck. I shop at the lemon valley Smith's almost every day some times multiple times a day. I just was checking out and I had teo separate orders. Well the guy in self check out decided to come over and be very loud about that he thought I was doing something wrong. I kindly told him to lower his voice as it was two separate payments that I had to do. He proceeded to take off items and then put them together making the purchase all messed up. I don't appreciate being profiled or whatever that was . I have my way of making sure not to mess it up just because he doesn't understand does not mean to go ahead and get loud in front of other people. I love how they just allow their shopping carts to be left anywhere on South Meadows Parkway. Store is OK but leaving shopping carts to destroy the cleanliness of a community is a really bad image. I normally stay on my side of town in Sparks but every once while I have a job out at the South Meadows Smith location and I'll tell you what their little store is pretty impressive I mean I don't know if it's set up different I mean I know instead of different but it looks like it is so much bigger with so many more items available I mean you can literally go in there for a One-Stop shop. They have automotive they have dishes they have plants they have groceries they have alcohol they have laundry soap just everything and they have such cute little display setup of like s'mores you get them on special if you purchase it in the little bag thing and they had a Reese's peanut butter one but I didn't stop and actually look what it was because then I would buy it and I don't need any more Reese's peanut butter cups LOL and the other thing that really impressed me was the little guy that bagged the groceries now this is a shocker he actually put the raw meat in a separate bag he put the non-food items in a separate bag without me having to ask and he also did not make each bag 50 lb I didn't catch his name but I don't know if they train them or if he's just good but yes I was definitely impressed read more

Five stars for the Smith's bakery for super value and service. Celebrating a birthday requires a cake. But what do you do when only your kiddo really wants that cake? Enter the $5 birthday cakes at Smith's! Yep. That's right. An entire festively decorated and perfect for birthdays for just $5! Vanilla cake or chocolate? They have both! These cakes are covered in a thick layer of fondant type icing which keeps the cake nice and moist (for weeks after the birthday mind you), and if your a kid, you'll be super happy eating it. Now here's the pro tip... these cakes have a bunch of icing rosettes on top which take up all the space for adding writing. But that shouldn't stop you from asking them to do it! The rosettes are easily removed by the bakery staff without any issue and then they can write in your happy birthday message! My kiddo really wanted a strawberry cake, so I grabbed a pint of berries and he helped decorate the cake even more when we got home. So there you have it! $5 birthday fun for anyone! read more

OVERALL LOCATION This is a beautiful Smith's grocery store with a perfectly adequate fuel center and huge parking lot; etc. So why is it one of the worst pharmacies in north Nevada? I mean how hard can a pharmacy be? This is a bit of a disappointment because of how convenient life could've been. Let's face it, we love convenience. MY EXPERIENCE In killing two birds with one visit, I tried to leave my order and go for groceries. On occasion, I do this in Gardnerville (when I'm in the area) and it works wonderfully! Today, I was in for a shocker when the tech, I believe it was Tammy, officially provided the most complicated conversation... ever! Every sentence I started, she interrupted. I never finished a statement. How can you possibly assist if you don't listen to my issue? Then, after "not listening" she tries a medical/techno-speak tap dance with hopes of dazzling me with fancy pharmacy talk. HER MISTAKE Shouldn't have done that within earshot of Mrs. E. She Aced Pharmacology classes in college. Oooops, she caught you BS'ing and when you were called out (Shame on you, you deserved to be), you stomped off while cursing under your breathe. THE LAST STRAW Finally, on the attempt to pick up my insulin, she says the information in the computer was entered wrong. Must have been the other tech. Odd. It was a new order, not a refill and you put it in. Remember? Why is it that Gardnerville filled my scripts with ease, just last month? Then it turns out they didn't even have what I needed, in the first place. IN CONCLUSION Thank you for patiently reading through this. Brevity has never been my strong suit.
