Made my last trip to this s++thole today. 4 of 10 electric carts still out of order, have been for weeks. 2 left, one has a steering problem which it has had for weeks and they had it out of order, but I guess it just magically fixed itself. NOT!!!! The one I had to take was the one that only had one place to sit, otherwise it stops abruptly. Heard six months ago or more "we have ordered all new ones, corporate won't send them". Or "the guy hasn't shown up to fix them". All bs. Only found two things I needed out of several. The beer I came for is $2 cheaper at savemart of all places. Of course the beer that was on sale was sold out. Only spent $3 today and as usual there was a problem with the self checkout. Left the store for the LAST TIME EVER and the electric cart gets hung up in one of the drainage ditches in the parking lot. Why?? Because the small wheels that are supposed to get through this are broken off. This store is a pit, even if it is clean, it does not look it. Hopefully the health department makes frequent visits here. Spend a few cents more and shop elsewhere. read more

Won't return, ever. Only been here once, and realized they didn't take Visa or any other major cars unless it's debit. To keep prices low? Haha doubtful, and much more likely to increase your own profits at the convenience of customers. Ironically WinCo does this bit there prices are much lower. So if and when you're prices ever become low it might be a valid procedure. Until then, nah. Don't recommend. read more

The place has gotten a little better over the years. Updated my review from a few years ago. It's not as old looking as it used to be. They've done some cleaning and upgrades and I've seen more people come in. The staff could still be a little better friendly wise but good overall. read more

Never thought I would review a Pharmacy But they are so extraordinary I am. Fast, friendly and kind.. I know kind is odd thing to add but? Pharmacies are a lot like the DMV.. cold. I tried to be responsible and called ahead and explained I don't live in the area and I will b going to hospital at 940 for radiation if I can pick up meds b4 I become radioactive. I was told yes. When I showed up in was rudely told no not til 12. I left @ 920 came back radioactive at 10 am. It is 1140 after publicly puking dodging people at 6ft around me I'm still standing here. Other people have dropped off an pic ked up but it seems like another pharmacist and tech are pulling thier power trip bullshit. If I wasn't stuck because prescribing and dispensing laws I would get it filled in reno. But seems like they can get away with treating people horribly because hey don't have to answer to anyone. read more

I almost never shop anywhere else. Prices are the best, good selection, although I prefer to buy my beef on base because I have that option and it's less expensive. My only complaint is what seems to be a very convoluted store design. It's often difficult to find a new item as they seem to put things in really weird places. I'm surprised this supermarket had such bad reviews. It's a large, clean grocery store/drug store with a good selection, nice staff, and prices that seem pretty much normal. I'm a vegan who lives out of town and was pleasantly surprised to see a wide variety of sizes and kinds of soy/almond milk and even soy yogurt. Today I was in Smith's just for two items. As I was walking/pushing my cart past the meat dept I tripped on a piece of food on the ground, an elderly lady happened to witness it and asked if I was ok. My ankle was hurting because it went completely sideways. I called to an employee (who I found out later was the Manager), I told him I had tripped on that piece of food and pointed to it.. He did not ask me if I was ok or ANYTHING!! He walked over to the piece of food and threw it in a shopping cart that was full of carboard boxes and proceeded to walk way!! I said uhm excuse me, can I talk to someone I am in pain? He said do you want to fill out a form? I said yes. He rolled his eyes and walked away. I was appalled at his lack of concern and his rudeness towards me. I filled out the paperwork (oh and I got the elderly ladies phone number as a witness) and asked if he was the manager and he said yes and I said I can't believe your lack of customer service, Justin. I called Kroger headquarters when I got back to my desk and filed a complaint....and got a case number since I WILL be going to see my doctor. Man, this place is unjustly maligned on here. Deal Central and there's quality food, too. The chicken salad and Greek salad at the deli are great for how cheap they are. If you come in a couple hours before closing, sometimes they have bags of 5 or 6 mixed sandwich rolls that are still good for 2-3 days for less than $1. In the early lunch hours they also often have some decent hot fish-n-cheese sammiches out that are a good size for $1.25. They carry a few flavors of Brown Cow now too! Rock on Smiths read more

I was just yelled at by the self check out lady named heather because she was not doing her job and directing the line properly. I honestly wasn't paying attention and wales up to one of the 3 open self check out registers. Heather then yelled at me and said there is a line. She then asked a woman who was no where near the line if she needed to check out and directed her to a register. My husband and I got behind the lady and Heather yelled at us again saying she just told us there was a line. I then told her she didn't need to yell at me. She said I'm not yelling I'm just loud. I told her she was being very rude and she then told me to leave the store and I was being rude. As I was leaving she continued to yell at me still being rude. I have never experienced anything like this and will never use this store again. I get all my prescriptions filled here and I will be changing my pharmacy as well. read more

Martha in the deli needs lessons in CUSTOMER service. I approached the deli counter and she was helping a fellow employee with hot food. I was okay with that. Once Martha finished dishing up the fellow employee's food, he started complimenting her on something she made last week - at the same time another employee joined this conversation--on the customer side of the counter. Even though Martha knew I was waiting, she continued to talk to these employees. Finally the male employee she had finished dishing up said "I'll let you go,so you can help this lady (me)." Martha said something in Spanish to the female fellow employee and they both looked at me and Martha walked by me and said to me"I'll be right with you" she then went and talked to a fellow deli employee who was working in the back. She then shouted something in Spanish to the female fellow employee, looked at me and walked right back by me to help this fellow employee at the hot food counter. They both looked at me without a word as I left the deli counter, giving up on being waited on. How in the world is this acceptable customer service. My husband suggested I talk to a manager but I shouldn't have to talk to a manager to get service in the deli. read more

Horrible customer service at "customer service" desk. Employee refused to accept bill payment, manager named Berkeley also refused stating (incorrectly) that its Smith's policy not to accept bill payment without paper bill in hand. It's 2018 and a pdf digital version of a bill on a smart phone is refused here. Employees here don't care about their jobs, maybe corporate should take a look at getting some better workers. Started shopping at Winco when I'm in Reno instead, now I spend $400 per month instead of $500. Consider switching to save money and avoid terrible customer service at the Carson City Smith's. read more

The store is never clean, I've had to walk around pallets and bubble wrap, and the manager is extremely rude.

I have remained faithful to this store for an employee, now retired, Ms Penny, the gas discount aaand that is about it. I am done. Everything in the place has degraded, they never have the sales items in stock, has the worst fruit and vegetable section in town, and now the meat department is deplorable. I seriously think they are pulling the spliced together meat!! How do you explain three weeks in a row of steaks that are literally one half tough as **it, the other half ok, with a 'marbling' in between. I don't know who they put back there, but I will NOT GO BACK. Unless stinking convenience or something but not as my go to shopping place ever again. I love this store with a passion. Way less crowded than Walmart or Costco. I've never had a bad experience here and they always have fresh meat, veggies, and pastries in their deli and bakery. If there was a higher rating than 5, this grocery store deserves it!!! read more

I am appalled. Disgusted even with the costumer service I received from Sandra H. My husband and I were ready to check out and noticed she was cleaning her belt, so we wandered off for a few and returned back to her lane. Upon return we start to load our grocery on the belt but no Sandra, she was off gabbing with other employees. She finally walks over and glares at us like we had done something wrong. She starts with no hello only mean looks. Then she starts to scan our items and throw them down so hard, One of our drinks actually started spewing. Sandra got offended when I asked her to remove the item. I start bagging our groceries and she's still had made no effort to be friendly or smile. Then she gets a really snarky attitude with my husband. I am very upset to be treated such a way. Made the mistake of trying to use money services at the customer service desk. I figured, its not food. Even if they are filthy and lack store management, money services are pretty straight forward. Nope. The older lady working there is completely untrained and confused. She began directing everyone she couldn't figure out how to help to Money Tree. I really don't know how this place stays in business. There are maybe 4 competent employees in the whole place and the management seems to be absolutely fine with it. This place continues to amaze me with its unheard of customer service. In today's climate of poor customer service this store sets the bar very high. Over the passed few months I've had 4 occasions where I was blown away with their unheard of, outstanding service. Let me give one example. I was buying apples one day and noticed 2 apples were damaged. Seeing the produce stocker nearby I took them to him and he thanked me for bringing this to his attention and apologized. That alone impressed me as he was genuine and sincere but then a few minutes later he approached me and asked if I would mind him putting the apples I was purchasing into a mesh bag he'd brought out from the stock room. He explained that the bag had a price sticker on it that would reduce the cost of my apples from $2.49 a lb to .99 cents a pound. Blew my mind. Since then there have been 3 additional instances where different employees identified a minor problem and went way out of their way to make my experience exceptional. My hat is off to this store. I don't know why Smith's has so many low reviews.! Yes, the store is old and needs remodeling, but, by far, they have the lowest prices in town! Their food is always excellent, not old, and rotten and I've been shopping at Smith's since they opened. Any store, will have an occasional problem! Their employees go out of their way to give outstanding service, and for the senior citizens and disabled, there are ALMOST ALWAYS carts available. I don't know of any store in town, which has as many handicapped carts available as Smith's! You will ALL be old, someday, people!!! I too lost my wallet and didn't realize it until I was about to get in line to check out. I said something to the clerk, she looked me in the face and said, "Wait," and ran over to the Service Desk and got it. (My driver's license and picture are on the outside of the wallet. Someone had turned the wallet into her.) Every credit card, and every dollar was still in the purse. I would give Smith's a full five stars, except it really does need to be remodeled. It's Carson City's hometown store, and if you don't believe me, go in there and see how many of your friends and neighbors you meet in the aisles! overpricing of items seems to be common here - picked up 4 items from a "special bin" but was charged full price on them at the register - overcharged $5.00 this time! Manager didn't seem too concerned! A recent order of LARGE Shrimp was found to be about half filled with smaller size - yet the price on the package was for "large"! Did complain on this one and received a free 2# bag of large frozen shrimp at no charge. Advised manager that we wouldn't be doing our major shopping here anymore - SO??? seemed to be his response! i would like to add one more thing to my previous review: they sold me a package of pork (at the beginning of sept., 2010) that was EXTREMELY ROTTEN! i brought it to the manager, and she could barely smell it. i notified the health dept, who came in right away, and found fault with their refrigeration: too many items block the cooling air, and the wrong lighting that both together, help to contaminate the meat. their idea is to sell more and the hell with freshness. this store does not care about you DYING. or at least getting SICK as long as they make as much $ as they can. caveat emptor! i also notified the better business bureau in reno and it was assigned a case #; they also sent smith's a notification. i was sorry to give them another chance. my mistake. read more

Every time I shop here they forget to put something in my bag. When I call the store, they never answer the phone. Very frustrating

My wife and I have been shopping at the Smith's location on Williams St. for 16 or 17 years now. We have almost always had a very good experience when shopping until yesterday. My wife requires a few medications we have been getting from Smith's for years. Yesterday I dropped off 2 scrips to be filled at 1215 or 1230 pm. The lady asked if I wanted to wait for 30 minutes, I advised I would not wait but would come back either the following morning or later that same afternoon. I returned at 3 pm to pick up the prescriptions, first they were unable to locate my wife in the computer (after many years of getting scrips through them) the pharmacist John said maybe I don't know the correct date of birth (after 29 years with this woman) I advised John that I have the date of birth correct. I was told the scrips weren't ready, the lady that told me 30 minutes then tells pharmacist John that I said I would be back the next morning, I corrected her with the truth of it being the following morning or that same afternoon, so being upset with the whole encounter I left. When I got home I had a message on my home phone stating that my wife or myself could come get the scrips. My wife and I went in the next morning around 1030 am . Pharmacist John handed my wife an envelope with her paper scrips in it stating he will no longer fill scrips for us because I "berated his employee". If calling out a lie is berating then I am guilty. This man John has no business dealing with the public. Maybe its the times we live in but it is apparent to me the customers mean nothing to John. His employees are correct and the customer is wrong even if the employee is lying.... Solution: No Kroger Co. or Smiths will ever get another penny from myself or my wife. Looks like it is Walmart from here on out....Great customer service John. I contacted manager Stormy at 215 pm and told her of my experience with John. I was told by Stormy that she will call me back after speaking to John. Stormy returned my call at about 310 pm to say that John told her I yelled at him and his tecs (which did not happen) John also told Stormy that he does not feel comfortable filling scrips for us anymore because they are controlled substances yet he told my wife he wouldn't fill them because I "berated his employee" (which did not happen). The lies continue but my shopping at Smith's will not. read more

Smith's has the best prices in town. They have improved their produce section and now it is quite fresh. They have Progresso Soup on sale for $1.00 per can quite often. They also carry health food items like Bob's Red Mill flours, and Silk Lite Chocolate Milk (the only store in town that does)! Smith's in Carson City is a pleasant shopping experience! This review is for the pharmacy. Being a new medicare beneficiary, and Smiths being a "preferred provider" for Part D (prescriptions) we tried them out. First, an hour after an Rx was faxed to them, they had no record of it. Once they found it, it would be another hour to fill it. More seriously, in another case they charged us "cash" (i.e. full) price ($21), making no mention that they determined the drug was not covered under the prescription plan. After calling the insurance company, we learned that the drug *was* covered and our copay was $2.65. When I called them back, they still claimed the drug "wasn't covered under medicare". When I said it was and gave them an insurance number to call, they changed their story and agreed to refund the difference if we made an extra trip to their store. No apology. While technically not "fraud" it certainly smacks of poor customer service. I won't go back. read more
