This is a great Trader Joe's. What's not to love? I've been shopping at this Trader Joe's for about 5 years now and since I'm eating out less this month, what better time to review a grocery store? The selection here is great. They recently remodeled so it's clean and organized and they don't often move things around which is great. This store is a bit smaller than the others nearby in Reno, but still offers plenty. My favorite sections are the freezer and wine selections. So many great grab and go freezer meals at TJs and the wine selection at this store is great. They have a great offering of liquor and beer as well and they support lots of local breweries and distilleries. Love it! The service is awesome here. They always have lots of cashiers and the lines move fast. They often give out samples of new products as well as cheese and wine. When I'm not shopping for groceries at Costco, this is where you can find me! Go Trader Joe's! read more

I always love this Trader Joe's. Easy parking, very nicely set up inside, and the staff are all very nice and helpful. I have my groceries taylored there to where it's very economical and yet I don't feel deprived. I believe I actually save money when I grocery shop there in comparison to even most big chain stores. The quality is always tops. I was having a bad day yesterday and the 2 clerks ringing me up asked how my day was going. I just told them in a couple of sentences the experience I was having. As I was leaving, one of the clerks put a bouquet of flowers into my basket, free of charge! Who does that? They're amazing. read more

Quality/Quantity - While my wife shopped at Walmart, I decided to stop by here and get another snack, another healthy snack; see picture. Wow, this is the first location of TJ that I have seen so many local beers; see picture. Shoe Tree is on my list to visit; I should have done dinner and a brewery today rather than lunch. Well, just means on my next CC visit. Atmosphere - Decent size location. Looks like TJ is either spacing, lowering their product mix, quantity, or they are just creating a more open shopping environment. Open 7 days a week, 8am to 9pm. Plenty of mall parking. Oh, and now TJ does sampling, see pictures. I am not sure how long this has been going on, but on the last few visits, I have been able to taste a sample. Service - Self service; friendly, quick, and easy check out. Thank you. Price - Reasonable and affordable. 11/9/24- Beautiful day for a fall drive- My first time visit to this location.. On the way home, I needed some beef for my recipe- tomato beef chow mein- Crazy busy, (weekend and mid afternoon).. Parking cramped and people coming and going- I like how the carts are on the right side upon entry- ) the Summit location- is different because it's to the right- Found my piece of steak- Staff was helpful when I asked for a specific salad dressing- they did not have. We all love Trader Joe's. Great service; clean; well appointed; excellent quality and so compact you can get in and out fast without spending a lot of time and money. They don't use plastic bags at the checkout. HOWEVER, they just wrap too much produce in plastic. I have written to the company about this very thing on more than one occasion and not received a response. read more

This place is awesome as expected. Just typical experience, workers look like they love being there. They also had a Santa Claus going around interacting with the children. But the best park that i wanted to note was the amount of tote bags they had available and there was no limit to how much we could buy! Back in Socal these little tote bags were gone in a heartbeat and people were limited to 2 only. read more

During our various errands around the Carson Valley, Gayle and I end up at this Trader Joe's as a supplement to our larger grocery runs at the nearby Raley's. It's located in the Topsy shopping area, and just up the Hill from Costco (which is in the Eagle Valley). It's fairly easy to access the shopping the area and park, considering how busy it can be. One interesting fact is that there is no Trader Joe's, Costco, or much cheaper Costco gas in nearby South Lake Tahoe or Incline Village, so there's a fair amount of traffic coming our way from there. Also, as Trader Joe's carries a variety of Kosher foods, an occasional Chabad Rabbi sighting is possible. Coming up on Hannukah and Shabbat, frozen latkes and challah are usually available if you plan ahead. Ambience is casual, friendly, and fun. Yes it can get crowded here, but I'm good at food cart derby and there's rarely a long wait at the multiple check out lanes. It's also a bonus that the Trader Joe's crew members are in a pleasant mood. I come knowing what I need to get, but that's just a start as other things end up in the cart along the way. Today's grocery cart (in one bag) included a 6 pack of Dirty Wookie Beer, frozen pizza, sliced cheese, lunch meat, Skyr, potato chips, and Cajun Chicken Alfredo (for backup dinner). Let me preface this by saying I love Trader Joe's as a whole, however this Carson City store has turned into a morgue in the last 1-11/2 years. I don't know who this new store manager is but you might really need to rethink this. The Happy vibe is definitely gone from this store. I used to love shopping here but since this new mgr. has come on board this store has definitely gone downhill. She is so rude to her employee's. I mean it is clear she doesn't know how to manage. I don't know where you got her from but you might want to consider sending her back. Bring back the old manager. This used to be my happy place. And just as a point of information, this is not just my view. I have asked several of my friends that shop here and we all seem to be of a like mind. She is terrible. And we've also noticed some of the really good employees are gone. I hardly ever write bad reviews because everyone has a bad day here and there and retail can be rough but this far exceeds a bad day. I'm in Carson City for work and prior to my trip, the first thing I looked up was if there was a TJ's nearby. Still no TJ's in the islands so it's always a must stop on any mainland trip. Fortunately, this location was just a 10-minute drive from my hotel. Ended up stopping here twice during my four day trip; loading the suitcase full with snacks to take home. All the same great snacks I've grown accustomed to at incredible prices. Service is also great too. Only negative was that they ran out of the white cheddar puffs :( Still very happy with what I got and also can't beat $1 greeting cards. And for the record, the pics are just a fraction of the total haul lol. read more

I will change my rating if things change. I love TJ's and the people who work there are the best!!! However, we have noticed recently that management is not putting their foot down about dogs/animals walking through the store. This is a FOOD store. Please be strict about policy. We love our animals but no need for them to be here. Also one of the employees stocking shelves starting petting the dog then back to stock. Huh?!?! read more

I love our Carson City Trader Joe's. It's not as crowded as other locations like Sac or Reno and if you're smart, and get here early, there not much of a crowd and it's easy parking. Tip on the parking: if you can back into the spot, so you don't have to back out in a narrow lot with tons of people walking and driving. , it's way safer. One holiday product I found that is actually pretty good is the Trader Joe's frozen turkey pot pie. Give it a try if you don't wanna make a whole turkey for just yourself this holiday. What a breath of fresh air for grocery shopping. We happened upon this Trader Joe's by accident, not even knowing there was another one but the Reno one. This experience was night and day in comparison. Nothin wrong with the Reno store it is just overwhelmed. We came in here on an early afternoon on Sunday 11-27-22 and there was actually room to walk down the aisles, a lot of room. We got our favorite golden potatoes and peppered salami so pretty much in and out but they had 7/8 registers open so it was even faster. Nice clean store. Great place in south Carson. read more

My favorite store!!!! Making coconut rice tonight and needed coconut milk. They were out but the helpful staff showed me the coconut cream and gave me the ratio I needed to achieve the consistency and taste of coconut milk. Store is always stocked and clean. Staff are always A+ read more

July 1, 2020. It's a Wednesday afternoon and the line to get in to Joe's stands at 21 people. I would recommend coming later in the evening. Current hours are 9-9. My book says hats off to Joe's for being socially responsible. They've been doing this for a couple months now. In addition to limited customers they're also politely asking that you comply with Nevada Directive 024 and wear a face covering in the store. Lastly, no reusable bags. That's an easy one. We let them put everything in double paper bags and slide the bags into our reusables. The paper bags go in the pantry to reuse later. We miss the free samples and wine tasting. Hopefully, if we're all safe we can turn the corner on this thing. In time things will change and we can get back to the double shot of coffee and sample of the week. 7/1 read more

The store is well maintained. I am always careful to use the packaged produce quickly as it does not last more than a couple of days. I went at a time not busy at all. Before I even got to the register the cashier rudly said "I need to see ID". Ok obviously, also I am 40 you can chill. Told her I had a reusable bad, she throws it at the end- I guess to say "go for it". I always help bag my groceries- did not realized this was required. As I am bagging my items she tells me the total and looks annoyed and looking around as I try to get my card out? Maybe TJ should go to self scan.. ? read more

I am thoroughly impressed with the new procedures that Trader Joe's has enacted during this COVID-19 crisis. Actually, the fact that they had a plan for creating a safe shopping environment so early on was the reason I shopped here in the first place. (Full disclosure: I've only been inside a grocery store once in FIVE weeks, and this is the one I chose!) First of all-- Trader Joe's limits the number of people inside of their store. To do this, they allow you to wait outside, with tape markings on the ground that let's you know where to stand (6ft away from others in line). Second of all-- The cashiers have a plexiglass barrier between you and them. That lets me know that the company cares about the health and safety of both their employees and their customers. Third of all-- The price is always right. I can (and do) add items to my cart without worrying about the bill at the check out line. My only issue has been with produce. It tends to go bad quickly. I still buy produce here, but with this in mind, I use it right away. Bonus points for-- Vegan Ranch, Vegan Queso, Vegan Mozz Shreds... the list goes on! read more

This is a lovely Trader Joe's. Everytime we head to Tahoe for an extended vacation, we always stop by this location to get the bulk of our groceries before heading up the Kingsbury Grade or Hwy 50. There are so many quick and healthy meal options at a fraction of the cost you'll spend at the stores in South or North Lake Tahoe. Every time I've visited, the store has been well stocked with fresh produce, meat, dairy and groceries. Customer service is always top knotch, and even if the check out lines are long, the cashiers keep everyone moving at a reasonable pace. Parking can be a bit tough, but I've never had to park too far from the entrance. In all--a good place to get healthy and affordable food, treats, and wine (and you can pick up gorgeous flowers while you are there too!). read more

My wife and I are a mixed couple the non-Caucasian kind, we went in and could feel the stares.. I myself don't care so much however my wife felt like she was being mad dogged by a few customers and by the cashier... Traded Joes is Traded Joes... you're going to get the same type of groceries in any of them no matter the state. With the price of groceries I am getting in the habit of checking my receipts the other day I went to Trader Joe's in Carson and lo and to my surprise they charged me twice for one item. I drove back to the store spent more time and gas and got a credit. Check your receipts they seem to be in a hurry to scan the items. Check before you leave. read more

Located right off of hwy 395 this TJ's is conveniently located. The store is large, clean and is only a few several years old. I needed some munchies and wine and the selection here for cheeses and wine were good. I even found a red wine from Italy here that a client of my highly recommended from Las Vegas which they don't offer in California - scored! You can tell this is a popular store because it was busy for a Saturday evening. The employees I encountered here were friendly, helpful and check out was really speedy. read more

Carson City has the most laid-back Trader Joe's I've ever shopped. Lite customer traffic on a Tuesday afternoon. I always pick up greeting cards, since there's a great selection with new art and messages. This is as any Trader Joe's is with lots of friendly employees and a variety of mostly good for you items. Produce- the produce here is definitely more on the expensive side with a variety of different fruits specifically that you usually do not find in the mass markets there of course is a premium for them but I often will treat myself to have a taste of something new. Meat- there is generally a variety of meats for this average size store including hormone-free which I always prefer I would say the price point is just a tad over what you usually find elsewhere. Flowers- I don't often get fresh flowers but Trader Joe's and this Trader Joe's as well always has a very good variety of flowers and always orchids are available usually you can get a bunch of flowers anywhere from 5 to $12 for a nice table vase. Meals- you won't find the typical rotisserie chicken like you find in most supermarkets however there is a variety of different pre-packaged salads Sushi and meals that can be warmed up in the microwave or oven in their fridge section. Cheese- overall a decent cheese selection my favorite is a goat cheese with blueberry that is always a crowd favorite especially with the Rosemary fig crackers that they sell. Wine/liquor - though it's a favorite to get something called The Two Buck Chuck which is the house brand of wine that is about $3 I absolutely find all the reds dreadful and would only get the white when cooking however the inexperienced Wine Drinker generally does not seem to mind them. Otherwise they have a very good selection of wines at different price points and a lot of craft beers with no domestics available. This is a bit of a drive for us but I absolutely am happy every time I come here to find both organic and a lot of clean food that is very good. My favorite of the store as any other Trader Joe's is the small cups of coffee they offer and a tasting of someone always sampling a new thing in the store. read more

Love love love this particular Trader Joe's. It's never as crowded as the Reno store (earthy crunchy people can get vicious when the last container of organic red pepper hummus on sale isn't in their hands). I can usually zip in and out in 15 minutes. Let me just say that the best thing about TJ's are their AMAZING reusable shopping bags! They have one style that I absolutely love that is shaped unlike any other shopping bag I've ever seen. I have bought 4 of them so far, given 2 away as gifts, and have constant reminders from family and friends that next time I go, I need to buy more of them. So they can snatch them away from me when I walk in the door. read more

although the floor plan is in better shape than the Reno location. It does not have the high volume and turn around of fresh products of the Reno store. when visiting the store on numerous occasions noticed that when they brought out the carts to stock the dairy/ ready to eat products/ cheeses/ salads. the carts would sit on the floor full of refrigerated items more than 1/2 hour. so we can only assume that the refrigerated products lost cold temperature and then they put them back on the refrigerated shelf. GROSS! we have shopped here and noticed that many of the fresh products expire in 2-3 days. their dairy and their products in plastic containers do not really have the best shelf dates compared to the fresher products at the Reno store. the staff is underpaid compared to that of Costco has great benefits. although they have no formal education such as college degrees; they do work hard and they work their asses just to make rent and car expense. i think they should be paid more at this location. read more

I don't normally give ratings to grocery stores, but today's trip merits it and not for good reason. Typically this place is a madhouse but despite that, the staff are friendly and efficient. Today just before 3:30 was an exception. My line was moving more slowly than normal but I wasn't in a huge hurry, so I didn't move. The woman at the cash register seemed more than oblivious to her line like she was in a daze. The people in front of me were taking a while because their gift card wasn't going through, but the cashier, rather than pull their cart around and pull the tray out so I could set my heavy hand basket on it, just kept making small talk with them while one of the customers was bagging his own groceries. She never offered to help with bagging their groceries. When on the third or fourth try the gift card didn't work, she just said sorry and so they resorted to trying another card. When finally I was up to bat, she again never bothered to bag my groceries. Instead, she handed me my receipt and then looked at me like I needed to do it myself. So I picked up a bag and went to it while she WATCHED and never once picked up a bag or one of my 15 mostly canned items to assist. What on earth is going on here today? I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Please tell me there's not some new TJ's policy I don't know of that requires customers bag their own stuff.
