These outstanding individuals assist hundreds of people every week and simply don't get enough credit for how much they have done right, making the difference nobody sees-- they are like front-end phantoms you might not even notice on a busy day- which seems to be every day! They have a working knowledge of every single product being sold, and where to find it. While the selection may not be consistent, Grocery Outlet provides a great selection of groceries at very reasonable pricing. I always find awesome name brand stuff here and save a ton of money. I was helped by a woman who, from the moment I approached the counter, never looked at me or acknowledged me. She continued talking to a coworker, with her head turned away from me the entire time. At one point, the coworker even came over to show her something on her personal phone, and the conversation continued. She eventually bagged my coffee cake without saying a word, still never making eye contact, and handed it to me. I actually had to lean toward her until she finally looked at me. I said, "Thank you," and walked away. I completely understand that working with the public can be challenging, and everyone has bad days. But this was more than just being having a bad day--it was zero effort to acknowledge or interact with a customer. Schat's is a place I really like, which is why this experience was so disappointing. If you're going to work in a customer-facing position, please make an effort to be courteous, acknowledge your customers, and provide at least the basic level of customer service they deserve.
