Hazelnut Brown Nectar (beer) and Buffalo Trace (bourbon)
    Cathy C.

The bartender right next door told us about this place since my friend was looking for bourbon. As soon as they opened at 5pm, we were here and had the place to ourselves. Good, so I don't embarass myself with my lack of pool skills. They have plenty of pool tables, flatscreen TV's and a dart board. I got a Hazelnut Brown Nectar (beer) as he was giving me Pool 101. My first shot was great...only because I was not drunk yet so, learning and focusing was not a problem...but my beer was so good I kept missing my shots and the balls won't go in the hole. I got frustrated, got more beer and moved onto darts. Another game I can play better when sober. The place is in an old building. The women's restroom shows the age of the place and is quite creepy. There's another door inside the restroom and who knows where it leads and what would come out of it...my heart was beating much faster everytime I had to go to the bathroom. But it's all good, that was just me trying to scare myself. Haha! As we were leaving, more people were hanging out at the bar. It's a chill spot.

    Great drink selection

So we were actually seated in Smiths Billiard Hall, but it's managed by Theodore's and they serve the same menu as the restaurant. I was surprised to learn that within 20 minutes of opening, there was already a half hour wait in Theodore's! Thank goodness for Smiths! Anyways, my wife got the BBQ burger with waffle fries. I had a couple of her fries, they were delicious. The burger was half chuck and half steak, she says it was really good. The meal choice was Brisket, and I was not disappointed! The brisket was tender, you hardly have to chew this delicious creation. The taste of the meat itself is mild, but that's what the sauce is for. There's a little bourbon bbq, but that and chipotle bbq and mustard bbq is also provided at the table. Served on a slice of bread, it was fantastic. For sides was a piece of cornbread, honey slaw, and collard greens (which the last was a first for me). Cornbread was sweet, the slaw was a little bland and boring, and the collard greens was actually pretty good (a unique flavor, reminded me of spinach, a little spicy, I'd eat it again). For drinks the wife got what I think was the 'Blue Bayou' which was as delicious as it was dangerous, went down real smooth. I was the DD, and while pondering over the craft beer section was tough, I chose 'Monks Cafe Flemish Sour Ale' which even dark was actually light. It was delicious. Their drink list is great and I wish I could have explored it more! Our server seemed a little overwhelmed, but otherwise she was attentive, polite, and charming. When I ordered the sour ale, she became excited. She was knowledgeable about the beer, where it was crafted, and details of flavor. It was also one of her favorites. She seemed to know the beers inside and out on the beer menu. What I loved about this place was the building. It is a mid to late 19th century structure with intricate molding on the ceiling, the bathroom had the original stalls, urinals, and sinks. There were antique fans still in place, not operational but hearkened back to a different time. I loved this place. I would definitely visit again the next time I'm in Springfield.

Smith's is a busy joint. If you're looking to shoot pool there are a lot of tables. The bar area is fairly spacy and there are a lot of TV's. The best part of Smith's (IMO) is the beer selection. It's a point of pride for them to offer finely crafted brews and not the run of the mill. As I made my way up the flight of stairs I'd already decided to put my choice of beer in the bartenders hands. I told him what I usually drank and I asked him to 'dig something up' for me. FYI they don't serve Sam Adams or Newcastle... The Stone IPA he served was perfect for me. A bonus for Smith's is that they serve food from their sister location downstairs. Theodore's offers an awesome (mostly BBQ) menu, definitely worth ordering from. I actually prefer eating upstairs (at Smith's) than downstairs unless I want the restaurant experience. Smith's has some serious history, it's been around for a century. Cool place, check it out.

A hidden away Pool Hall and Whiskey Lounge right above Theodore's Booze Blues and BBQ!

A hidden away Pool Hall and Whiskey Lounge right above Theodore's Booze Blues and BBQ! Great selection of craft beer, whiskey, scotch, bourbon, etc! Prices were reasonable as well...at least in comparison to Vegas prices lol. I was happy to see their selection so well stocked :) Plenty of room here to stretch your legs! Not sure if they get much busier at night, but when we arrived, we were the first ones in, and only a small group on the way out. We got a free hour of pool with our receipt from Theodore's downstairs, but we really came up here to drink anyways. After an hour of pool, we started play darts, and had a handful more of drinks lol. Walking distance to the train station btw! That's how we got here in the first place :P Check it out!

    Respek My Trois. Very good.

I usually skip the pretzel, but I'm happy we got it because it was soft and had the perfect amount of salt. The nachos and burger took a super long time to come out. I think they were waiting to bring them out together, but that just led to soggy nachos and a lukewarm burger. The chips that weren't soggy were pretty good and the added chili was good for flavor. Drinks were good! I can't remember the specific one that I got but it was Apple flavored and perfect for the fall. They serve 32 ounce beer mugs and it was hilarious next to my tiny wine glass. I would check them out again if I were in the area and looking for this kind of atmosphere.

It was a Sunday in April and the place was about half full. There are only about 10 lanes. No one ever came over to take a drink or food order but that could've been because I exclaimed how expensive it was for one hour of bowling. According to the April Vacation Special it seemed like I should've gotten apps but all I got was bowling & shoe rental. However, we had fun. The automated scoring, pin setup, ball return were in working order. There's lots of bowling ball weights and finger hole sizes to choose from. There's a GIGANTIC TV with some seating so it was nice to catch the Bruins game after we finished bowling.

I start reading about this spot, Student Prince is an authentic German restaurant. I speak fluent beer so my choice is now made up. I had a big lunch so I figured I'd drink a pint of good German beer and a small plate before I'm on my way. Yeah right! My waitress was fantastic, she was suggesting all these great dishes but I didn't have the room. I started with a tap beer and Jägerschnitzel (Schnitzel with Mushroom Gravy, my favorite) the dish came with two sides, sauerkraut and spaetzle. The Jägerschnitzel is a big cutlet, there is a lot of food on my plate. I take a bite of Jägerschnitzel along with some sauerkraut. I take it slow and I was able to knock it all out. The Jägerschnitzel was very good, this is a fantastic spot. The restaurant feels very authentic, from the booths to the bar, they did a great job in recreating a German pub. My waitress kept coming over to make sure I'm ok. She told me to make some room because the Strudel shouldn't be missed. I'm told it's also topped with vanilla ice cream. Another great dish and highly recommended. Student Prince, I don't get the name. I'm glad I found this spot on Yelp. If you want a great German restaurant, Student Prince is a must.

Comes with soup or salad and choice of two sides (i.e. spaetzle, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, red cabbage, or chef's vegetable). Also you can get a schnitzel sampler of 3 varieties. WOW!
