Not the best place I could of choosen to eat. This is for a few reasons. The service: The lines are very long and move at a snails pace. The workers that are working the register don't know how to keep the line moving at a decent pace. One even seemed to have trouble using their register. Wait time is bad and their pick up system needs to be a bit better. The workers calling out the order do not speak loudly or clearly making it hard to know what order they are calling out. And others just stood there holding bags of food looking around confused. My boyfriend luckily went over to the women holding bags of food who wasn't saying anything for a good time and saw that it was our order. I understand they are busy but, I do not think these employees were ready to be opened. They need more training. The Food: The food is not worth the amount of time spent in the line waiting to order. The food is put in a plastic container which clearly holds in moisture. This along with the grease filled burger turns the bun to a soggy mess. I ordered the BBQ Bacon Cheddar burger and the taste was non existent unless you count the taste of grease and oil. I had 1 piece of bacon and almost no cheese. There was no flavor. The Herb fries were probably the best thing I tasted in this meal. The Price: The price of the food is just not worth it and to much. They don't have meal combos and they charge for everything. They charge separately for the burger, the fries and the drink. Which makes 1 meal itself more expensive than other fast food places where you could get 2 meals for cheaper. I do feel that you would be better off saving your money and eating at Blaze Pizza, Teriyaki Madness or even an Applebees or just some other form of fast food period. Much better food for the price. I do not think they will do very well once the hype of this place ends. They might fair well due to possible college goers near by, however that is about it. Smashburger is decent, but usually not worth the long line that always seems to be there. I do appreciate that they give you the choice of swapping out a standard beef burger for a more healthy choice, turkey, chicken, or black bean patties. However, the sauce is a bit too heavy for my taste, and the cheese is a runny mess. The smash fries help gain some points back, with a tasty rosemary sprinkling. I think I will be back, and hopefully trying a milkshake the next time will help raise a few more points! read more

Heard smashburger was good so while I was in Marina I gave it a shot. I'm giving 3 stars because the burger was tasty and the staff was nice, but my experience was frustrating on an overall. The cashier didn't move folks along very quickly, so I waited in line with my baby forever for a TO GO order. After I ordered, I went outside to kill 10 minutes. I heard my name and came back in thinking my order was ready, but it was just my milkshake. I waited more and found out my order wasn't going to be ready for another 8 minutes. Meanwhile, my milkshake is already liquidy and melting. I didn't want to drink it on an empty stomach, so by the time I got my food it was gross and I wasted $5. You don't give people their milkshakes unless their order is right behind it; I don't want to wait 20 minutes for my order to follow. Then I didn't get catchup in my bag and had to go back in after loading my baby in the car. Ugh! It's a bummer because like I said the burger was pretty good, but I don't have the patience for all that waiting. I'm a spoiled American. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at how good the quality of the burgers were here. Like many of the other reviewers, I had never been to a Smash Burger before, so I came in with an open mind. The wait time to order was about 5 minutes, which was understandable since it just opened. I was ok with the wait since I had to check out all of my options on the menu and didn't want to feel rushed. I got a burger and some smash fries. Everything about this meal was great. The burger was juicy and delicious, and the smash fries were seasoned perfectly. Really, the only complaint I might have is that the restaurant was so packed that I had to get my meal to-go. But you can't really complain about the place being popular, right? Great burger place. I'll definitely be coming back here soon. read more

Pretty decent burgers In the area! They always seem to hook it up on frys as well as the milk shakes! I would recommend this spot if you are hungry and need some good food! The pricing is fair as well as a peaceful place to hang out and grab a burger. Located in marina it's a nice location close to the beach. Are you people crazy? How could you not give this place five stars? In my party of three, we all agreed that our burgers today were likely the best we've ever had. I knew that from the first bite. The quality of the meat is better. The meat was cooked thoroughly, but was juicy, not dried out. Perfection. We all loved their signature egg bun. There is a large variety of burger choices, or you can choose your own toppings. There are also chicken grilled or crispy, and black bean burgers, four kinds of buns, including gluten free, plus salads, and a good selection of sides. The variety beats out Five Guys (and, of course, In 'n Out.) I go to both those other burger joints, but this place is superior BY FAR. I got the buffalo and blue cheese burger, the other two in my party got the BBQ bacon and cheddar burger with haystack onions. I got a side of haystack onions, which were great. I love thin, fried onion rings. Their fries are also thin-- I loved them too. I hate thick fries. These were perfect. There is an obvious place to line up to order, with menus posted along the line and more that you can pick up and look at to help you decide, plus a large menu posted above the registers. I found that very helpful for my first visit there today. We were there during Sunday lunch time. It was pretty busy. You order at the counter, and they bring your food to you. The service was quite friendly. The tables were clean. My only con is that the place is not big enough. We opted to eat outside rather than feel cramped by all the people and the closeness of the tables inside. If you do choose to eat outside, make sure you have a jacket because it is always cold in Marina. The soda bar is cramped too. Five Guys definitely beats them on drink choices, but still you have three teas plus the usual fountain drink choices, plus there are milkshakes. The price? If you're looking for In 'n Out prices, don't go. The prices are comparable to Five Guys. Our total came to just over $30 for the three of us, which for the taste and quality of our food, we thought quite reasonable. The portion sizes? Just right for us, not the huge overload of fries like at Five Guys where we all could have eaten off one order of fries. Here everyone has to order their own. We will be going back often even though we don't live in town. It's worth the drive. Next I plan to try the goat cheese and the veggie fries. read more

Maybe I'm too spoiled over five guys and too used to in-n-out, so I was hoping five guys can change my perspective; it didn't. The first time I had smash burger was actually at an airport and it was better than this. The cashier was actually arguing with a server while he was helping me here. The menu items were pretty pricey too, but maybe that's because it's a new restaurant. Almost there... I ordered a Spicy Jalapeno Baja Burger, fries and a chocolate shake. The burger was good, but most of the condiments and guacamole were on one side. Ordered around 10:45am, in the car writing this review at 11:30 AS A VERY HAPPY GIRL! Ordered the BYO (build your own) black bean patty on a chipotle bun, grilled onions, mayo, mustard, lettuce, pickles, spinach, tomato, pepper jack cheese, chipotle sauce on the side ($5.29-I would name this The Cali Torta); orders are brought to your table as they're ready, not as a group (LOVE THIS). Burgers are served open face so you can add sauce, readjust your goodies etc. bc once you close up your creation everything's hanging off the sides, yumm! All ingredients tasted super fresh, perfectly cooked and spot on proportions. Gotta salted caramel hand spun milkshake, made with Hagen Dazs ice cream ($4.59) which was delicious enough to return for just that alone! This is my new favorite "burger" joint, hands down!! Only hiccup was when I tried joining their rewards club it asked me for a code so I asked an employee for a code and then the manager insisted you don't need a code. Overall not too bad. I'm on the fence whether or not the burger and fries was worth the price. It's about $12 for a burger fries and drink(I had the jalapeno Baja burger and smash fries). The patty was definitely fresh, could tell by the flavor and was pretty good. I did like the smash fries. The rosemary on them was delicious...Reminds me of Jamie Oliver's fries. This restaurant is very similar to RG Burgers but my wife likes their shakes better than Smashburger. She would rank her favorite burger joint in order as: Five Guys, RG Burgers, Smashburger, In-n-out. Seating is very limited and the line can get long. Yes, the sign inside flickers haha. Currently at the restaurant and my first impression of this establishment isn't great at all. This being my first time here I had no idea of the layout and where you are suppose to go to order food, lucky there was no line when I walked straight to the register. No one greeted us as we walked in, the employee at the register did not even knowledge us, look in our direction or even look the slightest bit interested in helping customers. After a few mins of waiting we finally walked up to him and asked to order. My cousin ordered first and once she was done and paid he went on his business I stood at the register waiting to be helped and he must have been mentally in another place because as he took my menu from my hand and had I stop him and ask if I could place my order. The employees seem to like hanging out talking in the dining area taking up two tables while customers stand around looking for tables. Let's hope the food comes out better than the service. UPDATE: The food was 7.5 out of 10. I'm not going to say I wouldn't return but I hope when/ if I do the service will be different. read more

Yesterday was our first time here, or at any Smashburger. We arrived at 5:00pm, so there was no waiting. The menu is a bit complicated to navigate, if you're a newbie. I was trying to add up if the combo was a better deal than ala carte. I asked the girl for help, but she didn't respond...nor did she smile. I got a burger, added caramel onion the Smash Fries. Husband got a regular burger combo. $20.00 for the two of us. I don't consider that to be outrageously expensive, given that Carl's Jr. prices are sometimes higher than that! Our burgers came pretty quickly, and the presentation was nice-- on an elongated, wire basket with paper. The fry servings were a bit on the skimpy side...sadly, they were barely warm. I was really bummed by that. I wouldn't want the Smash Fries again, because as much as I love rosemary...it overpowered the flavor of the garlic and fries. My husband got the sweet potato fries, and they were also barely warm and kinda droopy. As for my burger, I thought it was good. I liked the texture of the beef. My only ding is that the cooked onion really wasn't caramelized at all and the bun is kinda small. Would I come here again? Yes. I won't say I LOVE this place, but it's just fine and seems clean. The customer service at the register could use some improvement, though. I don't know how In 'n Out burger does it, but their customer service folks are always smiling and do a great job. Have eaten here at least 6-7 times in the last 5 months and is always good until the last time. My husband and I have our favorite burgers, he gets a double and I get the mushroom. His double was 2 tiny patties (half the size of the bun) we were both very surprised cause this is the first time our burger patty was not the same size as the bun. We visited Smash burgers for the first time in Marina on our way to pebble beach. We were not aware of the rules that the condiments station is employee only area as it was not marked so and was in a publically accessable area. Myra, the Assistant manager , was extremely rude to my friend who was picking condiments while waiting for our order. The line she used were "did i give this to you or you just grab it yourself? ". When i confronted her for her extremely rude tone, she said " dont tell me how to my job", "you are not my manager" , "just go " ; " just walk away"; " you are not the boss of me" and "you are not welcome here" to write a few. I am myself in the customer service profession for years and am amazed at the level of unprofessional , unapologetic and caustic behavior with racist tones she displayed for an assistant manager. As the manager wandered around aimlessly ONE girl struggled at the register as the line grew out the door. we were 3rd in line and it was 3:30 before we got to the register to place an order. We then went and found a seat to wait. As we waited a retired Air Force man (his ball cap said this) who also waited a long time asked for the manager. He was quiet and polite as he told her she should have opened another register. She got defensive and told him he was being abusive. He was just quietly telling her the service was lacking. She then told him he was not welcome to eat in her restaurant and could have the food he paid for to go. He took his bag and left. Our food came, for $30 we got a runny milk shake, cold burgers and fries. We knew better than even trying to complain and left.
