At Elli's Great American Restaurant In Salinas, CA Again Gonna Get Our Brunch On...!!! We're Starving Been Helping Set Up Mt. Toro High School Fireworks Stand Now It's Time To Eat...!!! The Wait Was Forever To Be Seated Their Hostess Didn't Show Up..!! So For That Reason I Only Gave A 4 Star Rating. So I Ordered The Crispy Chicken Sandwich With French Fries And A Dr. Pepper To Wash It All Down, My Fiancée Ordered The Breakfast Croissant With Hash Browns And A Bloody Mary. Cassandra Ordered The Blue Cheese And Flat Bread Steak Salad. We Sat Outside On Patio Since We Have SANCHITO With Us Today. As Usual He Will Eat Whatever We Eat.

Mushy onion rings and Gianni burger missing grilled onions and meager skimp of product yuck

Just ordered 2 of their Gianni burgers to go. Waited inside and picked up the moment the food came up. The burger was supposed to come w chipotle grilled onions. There were none. One tiny sprig of lettuce. The butt cut of a tomato. Onion rings cold and mushy, like they sat in water mushy. Disgusting lunch. Tried to call just now, no answer 2pm on a Monday. Eff this place. $40 and I threw on a $2 tip would like to get that back

Half Half a Big Belgian Waffle

I'm not sure if this is a sign of the times or what. But at Elli's Great American Restaurant you have the distinct privilege of paying almost 20 dollars for half a Belgian waffle. I don't know what they do with the other half, but it's definitely not on my plate. Service and everything else was great.

Chicken Fried Steak with three eggs over medium and hash browns and sourdough bread.

Oh yeah. Artery clogging comfort food. This was on a Sunday for brunch. Our service was in the bar area and it was getting busy after 11 am. As far as I could they there was only one person hosting the whole bar area. But noticed more assistance towards Noon. I ordered up the Chicken fried steak with eggs, hash browns and sourdough bread. It was definitely a hearty meal and need a nap or a long walk afterwards. I ordered coffee and I feel like it was an French Roast or something similar and not the usually Farmer Brothers stuff. Recommendation is to get there by 10 am for Sunday brunch. I will back to see what the rest of the menu is like.

My boss and coworkers have been raving about this place for the longest time, and I finally decided to come check it out for myself during lunch. Safe to say, I completely understand the hype now and I don't regret it one bit! I ordered the fries with steak bites and they were absolutely delicious. Now here's the thing , I am not a dessert person. I almost never order dessert anywhere I go, but something told me to give the brownie a try, and wow, I am so glad I did. Finger licking good doesn't even begin to cover it. That alone is worth the trip! But what really made the experience stand out was my server, Jasmine A . She was a solid 10 out of 10 incredibly friendly, attentive, and just an overall joy to be served by. I am someone who takes customer service very seriously, and Jasmine is exactly the kind of energy every restaurant needs more of. She genuinely made the whole experience even better. If you're reading this and on the fence about coming don't hesitate. The food is amazing, the service is top tier, and it is absolutely worth every single penny. This won't be my last visit, that's for sure!

Server was attentive. Full bar serving wine, beer, and cocktails. Located in old town Salinas -- I was told this spot is one of Salinas' oldest establishments occupying the same building from when it was founded in 1940. Hope they make it to 100 years! Also, my friend said this spot is known for their prime rib. I'll have to make it in one day to try for myself.

We ordered avocado toast, French toast, banana pecan pancake, house potatoes, and an Aperol spritzer. My avocado toast was served on a single very thick piece of bread, which had a very generous amount of avocado smash and was topped off with this delightful and fresh arugula salad. I added an over easy egg for an extra charge that was the perfect balance. The house salad was simple with butter lettuce, cherry tomatoes, radish, cucumber, with a light lemon house dressing that brought the salad together. It was refreshing. The French toast is pretty standard. Nothing that particularly stood out. The banana pecan pancake was delicious and shared with everyone at the table. The house potatoes were extra crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, which I found particularly satisfying. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and found Portabello's to be a good brunch spot in Salinas. The service was fast, the food portions were big, the food tasted fresh, and it was a nice ambiance. I would definitely return for the avocado toast and potatoes. Side note - I noticed Caesar Salad was misspelled on the menu as "Caeser"

Today have my friend iced tea instead of coffee which we laughed off and they corrected. But they gave completely after that. They brought over salt, pepper, hot sauce, or ketchup. They should just keep it at the table because it's always a struggle to get them to bring it. We waited a few minutes to ask for it, but never got a chance because they never came around again to offer a refill or anything. They didn't come until it was time to pay.
