We visited Patria in to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday, and it was a hit for all of us. We made reservations ahead of time and were seated promptly. The restaurant has a great drink selection and a great menu. We were pleasantly surprised to learn they offer a Tuesday dinner special that includes an appetizer, entrée, and dessert for only $32! This menu also had a special drink selection. I ordered the house salad, prawn risotto, and chocolate lava cake. The salad was very fresh with spring mix and butter lettuce, which I especially enjoy, and it was topped with a light vinaigrette style house dressing that was light and delicious. The prawn risotto was creamy, flavorful, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. The chocolate lava cake was rich and very chocolatey, a bit too rich for my personal taste, but still enjoyable. It also came with vanilla gelato, which was delicious. As a table, we also ordered the tableside tiramisu, which was such a fun and unique experience. I am a tiramisu connoisseur, so anytime I see it on the menu, I ordered it. It is my favorite dessert. Although this was not my favorite one, I very much enjoyed the experience. I will mention the espresso needs a little more time to fully soak into the ladyfingers, but the presentation and experience alone made it worth trying. The ambiance was lovely with nice background music, and the service was attentive and welcoming. Everyone in our party truly enjoyed their meal, especially the birthday girl. Overall, Patria is a fantastic dinner spot in Salinas, and I would absolutely return and highly recommend it. read more

Food was great, start to finish, and there was finally some ambiance and I say this as my sole issue in the past was that the place was silent as a library, because when I'm out for dinner and drinks I like at least a little ambiance. I'm glad to report that last night had some music in the bar, it was soft and sounded like Italian folk (Frank Sinatra would've been nice too) but it was perfectly fine because it broke up the atmosphere in a positive way. Calamari appetizer was great and my pork chop was too. Service was equally great as it was prompt and accompanied. I'll be back soon, so if you haven't tried Patria yet, you should. read more

The food is good here, won't argue that. And the server was really nice too. The reason why I am giving it three stars instead of five is because the place smells like straight urine. It literally smells like a bathroom that hasn't been cleaned. I don't know if it's a regular issue or something new that day but the smell was awful. It was so bad that as soon as the food came out, we stayed for maybe 10 minutes MAX and had to leave because I couldn't stand the smell anymore. I would recommend getting something to-go though. Very classy restaurant in the heart of Salinas. My wife and I attended a concert at the Fox Theater and made reservations at Patria across the street. We are glad we did, We were quickly seated and the greeted by our waiter. The menu had a good selection of different dishes to choose from. I ordered a net York steak, with potatoes a'gratin and sautéed vegetables. My meal was delicious. My wife ordered lobster raviolis in a vodka sauce. She enjoyed it very much. We enjoyed our meal here. It's a nicer restaurant to go to on South Main. We got the soup of the day, Skirt Steak Pappardelle, Jaeger Schnitzel, and the Pear Strudel. It's a charming Italian restaurant in the old downtown area of Salinas that has more intimate seating options and old world ambiance. The wait staff was slow to order and get our drinks but seemed to be spread thin and were very engaging when ordering. As of 2025, Patria has been taken over by new owners: Ernie Amorim (who also owns several restaurants and businesses in town) and Chef Jose Aranda (formerly of Mia Fusion in North Salinas). This team is creating some amazing dining options in Salinas. The restaurant has retained the old world charm of the previous owner including some of this original paintings. The updated bar area is a nice touch, that makes it feel like somewhere else. The unique wine dispenser between the bar and the one of the sitting areas is a must see. Great place for parties and gatherings. On this trip, I wanted to try out the cocktails. I ordered the Aperol Coconut Margarita, which was a nice twist of a traditional margarita. For an appetizer, I had the steamed clams with garlic butter and white wine sauce and the entree was the Blacken Salmon. Overall, everything was wonderful and the service was spot on. Last night we invited a friend to join us at Patra for Golden Hour drinks and meals. What a treat it was! The three of us ordered Pork Milanese with mashed potatoes and green beans,all cooked to perfection. Normally, we've been going to this restaurant for special occasions several times a year, but now we plan to go at least once a month or perhaps more often. Full disclosure: The previous owner came from Rustica in Carmel Valley and I was ecstatic to see he opened a place near my house. There was an exquisite menu with unusual items and their seafood was outstanding, especially when they used parchment paper. They had outstanding eggplant parmesan and a cheeseplate with a wide variety of cheeses for when you just wanted to stop in for a quick conversation in the wine room. When I learned of Paolo selling the place, I held out hope that there wouldn't be too many major changes. I was wrong. One of the worst things they did is keep the same name because it doesn't even resemble the Patrio of old, except that most of the interior is intact. And that interior is charming European. I'll start with what they need to improve on. We tried the lunch early on and now in early June, they've already canceled lunch. They intially launched a buffet avail only on weekdays, offering mimosas. They changed it to menu offerings only and now it's canceled altogether. I came in on a Friday in May after Facebook advertised food for early birds, without explaining what it meant. The server didn't know.But later realized it was advertising specials and they have limited offerings that sell out. Well, just explain that on the Facebook post. They didn't have any specials that night and it was Friday. So I came in early for nothing, missing on the hustle and bustle that happens around dinnertime at a downtown venue. So I think they need to stick with an idea long enough for locals to be aware and improve marketing messages as well as communicate with staff. As far as the food, they are an Italian restaurant with meat and seafood options available. I ordered the Caprese and asked them to hold my main order but they brought it out before I finished my salad anyway. Next time, I just won't order the main entree until I'm ready. The salad was fine. My main entree was the Butternut Squash Ravioli. It came with too much sauce but had a good carmelization that added flavor depth. There is an option to pay the bill on an app. I got there early to see what the early offerings were that were advertised. So I was ready to leave by 5:30. As I was leaving, the place was becoming full. I'm glad our locals have a place for a good dinner. More options other than breweries and party places are always welcome. I would return, especially with family to see what they feel about it. Despite my disappointment (that they canceled lunch so soon, confusing marketing, rushing my meal to turn the table, I'm leaving a four-star because I'm glad Patria didn't just dissolve and I genuinely enjoyed my meal. Exploring more menu items with friends and family, and coming at a time when they're a little more lively will probably warrant the four-star. read more

Food was delicious, well balanced, and perfectly executed. The gigantes bean and prawn salad was such a bright and herbaceous start to the meal. It was my favorite bite of the night! Service was helpful and attentive but didn't hover. I've always loved the decor and vibes of this place-- but with the new ownership the food has improved significantly! It was a great experience. We were in Salinas and upon a local merchants recommendation decided to check out Patria although we were told it was under new ownership. Upon entering we were warmly greeted and immediately seated. Adam was our main waiter as there were a number of staff who efficiently waited on us throughout our meal. I ordered the pasta dish with lots of varied types of fish including clams, mussels and salmon. The tomato broth was very flavorful, and the crusty bread we were served soaked that up nicely. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and the dish arrived hot which I always prefer. My husband ordered the schnitzel and spatzle and he said both were quite good. Two entrees and two non alcoholic drinks came to $85.00, with tax and tip just over $100.00. Service was excellent, ambience is nice and the restaurant is beautifully decorated including the bar (see photos). We will definitely plan to return and try more items on the rather extensive menu. Best restaurant in Salinas, hands down. The food was outstanding. We ordered the red snapper, skirt steak, kids pepperoni pizza and bucatini marinara, beet salad, crab cakes, and soup of the day (cream of carrot). WOW! Just wow! The carrot soup had a slight Moroccan flavor. It was so good, my mom ordered one, too. My dad loved the red snapper, which is impressive because he's hard to please and that's his favorite fish. The kids pizza was the best pizza in town!! It tasted like coal fire pizza. My husband, a native New Yorker, stole a slice and wanted one for himself. The beet salad was so good. I ordered the crab cakes appetizer special to go with it. So very impressed by all of the food. The ambience was also very welcoming and I like that the bar area is separate from the larger seating area. This is our new favorite restaurant. We're so happy we found this place. Very impressed. Went for dinner out to try a new place, what a sh!t show of a meal out! The waitress was so rude, quipping in sassy remarks left and right. Ordered the clam appetizer, it looked beautiful but was way too salty. We ordered drinks and one had a fly in it. To which the waitress said hey some extra protein for free! Won't charge! (We did get charged for this on our ticket) Food took forever to come out and again was over salty on the meat (skirt steak) but presentation was great. Save your money, try somewhere else. We did leave a good tip although food was salty and our drink had special guest. We did ask about the drink and the waitress said "can't take that off" never once were we asked or approached by any manager to see how we were or to apologize for our experience. read more

I love the European menu at this restaurant! Only place I could find rabbit on the menu, and some solid German food too! It has a little of everything, Italian, French, German. Such a gem! Well use to be.... the owner recently sold the restaurant and whom ever has taken over is really letting the integrity slip through their fingers. I'm not someone to bash a place but I was really excited to enjoy my dinner but once I got it I was very let down. German spaetzle, red apple braised cabbage with a fried pork cutlet was my dinner. The cabbage was overpowered by cloves, the spaetzle was really bucatini tossed in bread crumbs and the gravy sauce tasted like marsala. So unfortunate. It's a beautiful restaurant and the staff were very attentive to me but the food lacked. I hope things get better as the new owners settle in. Dined there last night with my best friend and we had a lovely time. The restaurant is very attractive and charming, with weathered wooden beams, art, cozy nooks. The bar looked very appealing but next time. We had seafood apps, ribeye, pappardelle with skirt steak, creme brulee, a mai tai and a "zombi." All foods were fresh, hot, attractively plated and made with quality proteins. Our server (sorry, mai tai made me forget his name) was personable, efficient and funny. Wow! Wow! wow! Every single bite was amazing! I got the filet mignon and the sauce was one of a kind. Meat was juicy, the spinach and the crispy onion on top was great accent to the filet. At one time this business was ran by a German gentleman the service and food were outstanding.myself and some others dined at this establishment on May 12. Our waiter told us that the above mentioned gentleman no longer owned this restaurant as of 1.5 years ago. I must say both the service and food were not as I remembered. It has gone down somewhat. The food was tasty, but the quality didn't hold up. My steak had a strange, gummy texture -- almost like it had already been chewed -- which really took away from the experience. The dishes my companions ordered didn't look much better either; presentation was lacking and none of the plates gave off a fine dining vibe. Service was just okay. What stood out, though, was how the server's attitude noticeably shifted after we chose not to order the specials he recommended. He became less friendly and less attentive, which made the experience feel uncomfortable. The only real highlight was the restaurant's location and interior -- clean, well-decorated, and inviting. They are back !! And with a delicious vengeance. After being closed for some time they re opened with new owner and chef and what a difference. The wait staff was still working out links but great service especially mirella who was so helpful to us with our extras with meal. The food was so amazing. I had the skirt steak and it was legit melt in your mouth deliciousness. We also had the special of swordfish and just wow. Patria has just reopened under new management and they are getting it absolutely right! I had a house starter salad which was fresh and crisp - no bagged lettuce! Homemade vinaigrette was tasty if a bit heavy on the vinegar. I also had the Bucatini Blackened Salmon. It was so delicious! Creamy and flavorful and the salmon was perfectly cooked. Other dishes of note ordered at our table - a lobster bisque and the lasagna were both very good. One last improvement is the restaurant used to smell strongly of cleaning product. So much so that it interfered with the food. While everything was clean and shining and spotless the smell is no longer there. We will be back!! read more

A less than happy meal. We started with the side house salads...beautiful greens and veg. The vinaigrette was heavy on the vinegar and a tad too sharp but overall a good salad. I ordered the Coppelini fruta del mare. The tomato broth was more a sauce and heavily salted. The fish was nice as was the pasta. My partner ordered the ribeye steak. He could barely eat it, it was so tough. The knife just sawed the meat rather than cut it. With no cloth on the table, his plate slide back and forth as he tried to saw through the meat. Loved the atmosphere with soothing music and pleasant lighting. The hard wood seating in the booth I was at in the bar area was a little uncomfortable but not unbearable. New York steak was cooked to my liking in the middle (medium-rare) however I personally would have seared the outside a little less, but that's just preference, next time I'll mention it. The mashed potatoes and green beans were well flavored with a good presentation. I would have loved to try the potatoes au gratin, but couldn't do the dairy this evening, next time! I also enjoyed a delicious espresso that and it was even served on a nice little platter with sugar, great touch.
