This was our first time visiting this restaurant. My wife ordered the New York steak, which was cooked perfectly and had great flavor, along with mashed potatoes. However, the vegetables were overwhelmed with garlic, so much so that she couldn't eat them. My daughter had the French dip. The seasoning was a bit different but still pleasantly mild, and dipping it in the au jus really enhanced the flavor. She also had the sweet potato fries, which she enjoyed. I had the Cali Cubano with sweet potato fries. The Cubano was outstanding--everything came together with the right balance of ingredients and flavors. The service was fast and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm, friendly, and inviting. This restaurant is good but pricey. I've had their breakfast, lunch and bakery items and the taste is definitely there, but $20 for a veggie omelette that had a teaspoon of vegetables in it, is insane. I was catching up with my dad after not seeing him for sometime and the servers kept coming to the table and trying to take my dad's plate away without asking if he was done yet. The first time my dad told the server that he was still working on his food, then 10 minutes later they come again and takes his plate off the table and my dad had to speak up and say he's still eating. This happened 6 times! All 6 times they didn't even ask just went straight to his plate and took it off the table. Unfortunately won't be coming back here again. read more

The 31st Grill is a surprisingly cute breakfast/brunch spot. Some of the other similar spots in town have gone down in quality recently, but this seems to be a great replacement. The restaurant is a bright classic diner with lots of space. The staff is quick and friendly, providing good service. I had the biscuits and gravy, which were delicious. The 31st Grill is amazing! Service is great; the size of the restaurant can serve tons of people; the atmosphere is warm, clean, and inviting; and the food is on another level. Came here 2x for breakfast in the last few days and had the same amazing service and food both times. Right when you walk in, you're immediately greeted and even when it was busy we were seated right away. As an added benefit for sports fans, there's plenty of TVs around the bar area to watch morning games while you enjoy breakfast. Although they don't have specific gluten free options, they have plenty of egg based dishes that more than suffice. My husband had their Whole Hog Omelette and their Huevos Ranchero and he loved both of them. Both days I had their French toast and made it a combo with a side of 2 eggs and 2 sausages. One day I chose their chicken apple sausage and the other day I tried their regular pork sausage, the pork sausage is far superior! The French toast phenomenal - delicious caramelization on the outside that gives a nice crunch and super soft and perfectly cooked on the inside. Some of the best French toast I've ever had. So far, I've never gone wrong with my restaurant suggestions to my husband. We ordered chicken piccata and ribs. We didn't finish them, but they were good! I love their garlic bread! The prices are reasonable. Their pastries are underrated; I think they've been sitting there, but they still taste great. I got a triple chocolate muffin and chocolate cookies. Honestly, and I don't say this lightly, but it was all so delicious! The best biscuits and gravy and pancakes we've ever had! The service was friendly and attentive. I've been coming here since it was Norma's Family Restaurant, and while that was great, this new iteration is even better! My partner and I recently stopped by for dinner, and it was an incredible experience. I ordered the blackened chicken fettuccine Alfredo, and it was hands down one of the best I've had in a long time. The sauce was rich yet light, and the garlic bread was absolutely delicious. For an appetizer, we had the calamari, which I found to be among the best in Salinas, especially compared to places in Monterey. My partner had the Chicken Piccata, and he raved about it and I couldn't agree more. The zesty sauce was perfectly balanced and rich! Service was also fantastic! The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes, and both the food and ambiance reminded me of the Lalla chain of restaurants (like Elli's, Lalla Grill, and Lalla Oceanside) only much more affordable. Eggs benedict luke warm at best and the hollandaise seemed like it had been sitting as it had a very dull look.Both the last two visits we had the same server and maybe he let the food sit too long before bringing it out. Picky Pete here! Got the backyard burger with garlic fries. Listen if I could give 6 stars I would. I'm pretty sure the burger patty was hand made. Not a frozen patty. Very juicy and flavorful. My brother got the quinoa salad here, and said it was better than the last place we stopped. They also had a tomato rice soup, and a clam chowder. Both were amazing. The service? Impeccable! My wife and I are very picky about restaurants nowadays because the quality seems low and the price is high BUT NOT HERE! This was one of the BEST breakfast I've had in a long time and my wife agreed! The chicken sausage omelette was phenomenal, the hashbrowns were not oily, nice and crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked in the middle, the bread was thick and fantastic. Her veggie omelette was full of vegetables and spinach. The strawberry mimosas were very good and our little girls banana split croissant was to-die-for! Unfortunately, they put way too much into this. The sprouts, cheese and nuts were overpowering, and caused the toasted bread to become soggy. Did not like. The iced tea was great. Popped into this place on a busy Sunday morning a week after they opened official to the public. I met a few friends from the neighborhood that invited me to join them. Service was a bit off but they have only been open for a week. So it is not a big deal. They will work out those issues in the coming weeks. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs and hash browns. The chicken fried steak was tender though could have used a side more of gravy. The has browns were crispy and very good and the over medium eggs were just tight as requested. The meals came out within a reasonable about of time as well. I also got to try the Lemon Ricotta pancakes and I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. The inside of the restaurant is spacious, clean and bright. They did a wonderful job on the remodel. There is even counter seating. The minute you walk in, you're greeted by staff who are pleasant, in clean uniforms and ready to seat you. The restaurant has been completely remodeled and is beautiful. Music playing on a low level in the background. Our orders were taken right away and within 15 minutes our food was delivered to our table. The huevos rancheros were very good. Lots of flavor. The chicken fried steak was made with a brown gravy as opposed to a white gravy, good but lacking a little flavor. No toast or biscuits offered with meal. Hash browns needed to to be crisper. Best of all, this is a second place to experience Emma's Bakery, all the baked goods you could imagine. My only wish would've been, in the morning, when the restaurant just opens I wish they'd space customers out a little as opposed to back to back. read more
