The drive-through was a bit chaotic, but then one of the employees came out to direct traffic, which made things a lot easier and smoother. Today, June 27 at 11:26 AM, I visited the In-N-Out Burger location in Seaside, California, and placed an order for two cheeseburgers. For one, I asked for grilled onions. For the other, I specifically asked for raw onions and even spelled it out multiple times: R-A-W. The person taking my order seemed confused, so I made sure to repeat it and spell it clearly. At the payment window, the cashier repeated back "light onion," and I again corrected them, clearly stating raw onion and spelling it again. The cashier told me they would inform the kitchen. However, when I got home and opened the bag, I saw that the burger did not have raw onions. Instead, it had a thin slice of "light onion," just as mistakenly printed on the receipt. I don't understand how much more clearly I have to say "raw onion" to have my order taken seriously. I even went so far as to spell it out multiple times. As someone who speaks English as a second language, it's very frustrating to feel like I wasn't listened to--even after going out of my way to communicate clearly. I think the two employees who were working during that time should be re-trained to listen more carefully, especially when a customer makes a specific request and spells it out.
