The man there was patient & helpful, especially when explaining the menu to us & providing recommendations. BBQ Brisket sandwich was to die for - tender, juicy, with just enough sauce. Even though it's been a month since our Monterey trip, my partner & I's one regret was not taking some back with us. We went for the aquarium - but would plan a trip back just to enjoy it again. Seating area & bathroom is nice & clean. read more

My wife and I had an incredible lunch experience here today. I've been seriously craving a traditional, no frills hot dog, and even though it was not on the menu, the staff went above and beyond. They were kind enough to sneak a couple onto the grill for us, which was an amazing gesture. The hot dogs were absolutely delicious, served on a high-quality bun shipped directly from the East Coast (the same ones they use for their Philly cheesesteaks). It was a fantastic, flavorful surprise. As you can see from the photo, my wife thoroughly enjoyed diving right into that massive foot-long! The service was top-notch, the food was spectacular (such great quality and flavor), and they truly care about their customers. We will absolutely be returning and highly recommend this spot to anyone in the Seaside area! Thank so much, its really a pleasure to find a crew that love their trade ! read more

3.5 STARS HELLO, MEAT SWEATS! Escaping the 4th of July warzone in The City, we headed to Carmel for a quiet staycation. The Carmel food scene tends to be mid and overpriced so I was in search of more affordable, local gems in Seaside and Marina areas. And...TikTok brought me to The Meatery, a boutique butcher shop and eatery. BUTCHER SHOP Array of ethically sourced meats - amazing looking marbled steaks, pork, veal, and handcrafted sausages (Mmm, blood sausage and fermented garlic sausage!). They also have house-made sauces and spice blends, condiments, compound butters, duck fat, and more. There's even fresh dog food (e.g. beef sirloin, brown rice, and blueberries) which I bought for my dogs. EATERY Made-to-order sandwiches and BBQ (brisket, pulled pork, ribs, etc) in the hot case. House-made sides (potato salad, mac salad, and kimchi) are available in the cold case. Bottled drinks including beer available. You can order ahead online but we ordered in-person. Note: Check Toast for the most up-to-date prices; the online menu has the old prices. There's about 6 tables for dine-in. Self-serve water. Bus your own tables when finished. F O O D * 18 Hour Smoked Brisket Sandwich ($18): https://tinyurl.com/rceamucw - Requested mix of wet/moist and lean brisket A signature item, the brisket sandwich was sorely disappointing. While I enjoyed the fresh, soft bun, tangy cola-cola bbq sauce, and acidic pickled onions, the lean brisket was very dry and tough (at opening time). * Calamari Steak Po'Boy Sandwich ($18): https://tinyurl.com/yn7zsvz6 The unique coastal twist on a New Orleans classic sounded promising on paper. The sesame roll was light and fluffy, and the slaw had a delicious creamy tang. Unfortunately, the thin, fried calamari steak was dry and chewy, while the heavily salted breadcrumbs overwhelmed its delicate flavor. * Dino Beef Rib ($21.50/lb): https://tinyurl.com/j8dsxnvc Eyeing this on another table, we decided to order it after trying the sandwiches. Def the highlight of our meal - the beef rib was rich, tender, and deeply savory. Not overly fatty with a crispy bark. Light on the seasoning and smoke so the tangy BBQ sauce came through for a boost of flavor. * Wedge Fries ($8) Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the wedges were dusted with their house seasoning mix (savory w/ a touch of smoky flavor) and served with a side of their fermented chipotle ketchup. * Kimchi Cucumber ($7.50) A blend of napa cabbage and thinly sliced cucumbers, the kimchi was mild and tangy. The perfect acidic in-between bites. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly service. Food came out fast. Overall, maybe we visited on an off day for the eatery. I can see why The Meatery is a local fav for their butcher shop tho. I mean, if I lived nearby, I would be all over 'em sausages! P.S - 3.5 stars rounded up for a small business. read more

So great to stumble on this find for a delicious sandwich for lunch. I got the pork banh mi which was one of the best I've had. The pork was soft and juicy with a few crunchy edges, the carrots were tangy, the bread was fresh and not tough and kept good balance with the amount of sandwich filling. The $20 price was high relative to where I'm from (Midwest) but it WAS a great sandwich... Also got the potatoes wedges. Not crunchy, but still delicious. Great casual lunch spot! The guys behind the counter were attentive hosts. read more

What a neat place!! I wish there was a Meatery near me, I would be a frequent flyer. They have anything meat related that you could possibly think of, as well as some nice wine, snacks, and trinkets to look at while you wait. We came here for sandwiches, but I found myself intrigued by all their goodies. My husband got the Italian sandwich, I got a crispy turkey, and my kids got a deli turkey sandwich-- everything was great. I am seriously obsessed with their pillow soft sandwich bread. Literally dreaming about it! The deli turkey had a really nice flavor, as well. The man who helped me had a nice smile and friendly service. read more

Friendly service, no fuss interiors but ample seating if you want to dine in. We got the brisket sandwich and the fried chicken, but generous portions of meat and very flavorful. The brisket melted in my mouth, it was definitely my favorite. The fried chicken was perfectly fried and succulent, a mixture of light and dark meat. Will definitely come back whenever we're in the area! read more

We'd heard about this place so dropped by here on the way home during a mini road trip. I tried the brisket sandwich and thought it was amazing. The meat was the star and it had just the right amount of thin layers of accompaniment on each side of the bread. The size was a bit smaller than I expected, however the quality was so good, it was appropriate. There were very few little fatty spots to pluck out and I was definitely satiated and satisfied. Cool decor and a great spot. We ate it there, to avoid the take out quality loss. My wife got the brisket mac and cheese and liked it but didn't rave like I did, however, this is my review so I'm sticking with the 5 stars :) I'm sure there are millions of sando photos from here, so I didn't take one read more

My wife and I had lunch here at the Meatery this week. We sat at one of there 10 or so tables mixed in with shelves of specialty items. We also took home two jalapeño cheddar sausages and 2lbs of pork belly from their butcher counter. Their counter staff were extremely helpful and friendly. For lunch we ordered the pork belly banh mi and their Italian gumba sub sandwich. Both sandwiches were made with a warm sesame bun which enhanced both normally cold sandwiches. This was a nice touch. I would have preferred the banh mi pork belly to have some sear and caramelization, but it was still flavorful and fresh. The Gumba sandwich had 3 or 4 different Italian salami's with fresh l/t/o veggies. It was a big sandwich. Overall the price of each sandwich seemed fair for the freshness and quality of ingredients. While we were waiting for our sandwiches, we browsed the freezer and refrigerated cases. Their front counter cases have great cuts of beef, pork, chicken, 15-20 different sausages made in house. They also have prepared hot foods from their small hot deli case. If I were single, this would be a 'go to' spot. Along their sidewall cases they have refrigerated pre made food, frozen hard to find raw meat and seafood like scallops, pork belly, and veal shanks. These and other hard to find ingredients are all here in Seaside. For a home chef, this place is a great resource. Prices are on the higher side, but I noticed much of their proteins are locally sourced and available in one small deli/store. I will come back to try the burger or a few of their other sandwiches, and when I need harder to find proteins to cook or grill at home. Monterey County is lucky to have the Meatery. read more

I just have to start off by saying this is the best sandwich spot in Monterey county! The Reuben is the best I have had locally, they cure their own Wagyu for this sandwich and it does not disappoint! Counter guys are polite and sandwiches come out super fast! They have plenty of sandwiches to choose from and a weekly special! Check them out! read more

Stopped by The Meatery Seaside hoping for a carnivore's dream, and... well, it was a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the meat was cooked well and flavorful, but other dishes fell flat and lacked that wow factor I was expecting. ‍ The atmosphere is nice enough, and the staff are friendly, but the overall experience felt a little "meh" compared to other BBQ spots we've tried. Worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

Whatever Chef Todd Fisher touches turns into an amazing culinary delight. The Meatery in Seaside is no exception. Great selection of meats and other provisions. A great menu to dine in or take out as well. I had the brisket sandwich for lunch along with their amazing potato fries and fermented ketchup. Juicy brisket and it was super delicious. The other offerings on the menu looked very enticing as well. read more

What a delicious treat! My wife and I saw this shop a week ago from the street and we both wanted to make it back. Stopped in for a late lunch. Service was good, menu was well laid out on the wall with no prices that we saw. Ordered a couple of sandwiches, one calamari and a fried chicken. Quick, order up in ten. My chicken sandwich was good it had a pretty tangy type slaw on it, did I say "tangy." My wife's was better. The first bite of her calamari sandwich was delicious. Perfectly cooked and balanced with the sauce and bread. That's a winner. After lunch , looking around a little they have some pricey wines, house made dog foods, books, hats and of course meats, sausages and Green Egg Smoker's to cook them. Last words...so local, so good. read more

I had high hopes for this place based on the strong reviews, but unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. I stopped in for lunch and ordered a couple of sandwiches to go, thinking it would be a good way to try the food before committing to a larger purchase like steaks, pasta, or other items from the shop. The sandwiches came out to $42 for two, which felt pretty steep. While I waited, I looked around the store at some of the other products, but nothing really stood out to me, and the service felt a bit underwhelming. The sandwiches themselves were just okay--nothing particularly memorable for the price. A few hours later my stomach also felt a bit uneasy, which didn't leave the best impression. Overall, the experience fell short of what I was expecting. Perhaps I just caught them on an off day, but based on this visit, I probably won't be returning. read more

We saw this place profiled on a local show and stopped here for lunch three months ago. Food was so delicious, we had to come back! The sandwiches are a generous size. We split them among the three of us with a side of Mac and cheese. Yum! There are also various meats and pre-prepped food for purchase. The last time we came, we purchased some cooked meat to have for dinner while on our way home. I wish this place was closer to us (we live 90 minutes away). We'll be back! read more

Saw "The Meatery" on the PBS show called "Check Please" and I had to go there the next time I was in Seaside, CA. Well, I'm here! The Meatery opened 4 years ago. It is a deli with special sandwiches, bbq shop with meats smoked in a Green Egg Smoker, a butcher shop with lots of prime cuts of meat and in-house made sausages, and pre-made foods in the cold cases, like shrimp gumbo, that you can bring home and heat up They also sell beverages and cookies. The parking lot is small, so you may have to park in the dirt lot next door. The Meatery is a shop, but they do have indoor tables and chairs to enjoy your food or you can take your foods to go. The place is cozy & clean, the furnishings are made of dark wood, and the room has lots of light from all the windows. I came here on a Saturday at a little after 5pm. Tip #1, The Meatery is closed on Sundays & Mondays, and Tip #2, they stop making sandwiches at 5pm on the dot! So get there early if you want a sandwich! Looks like you can order online too, but I didn't know it at the time. Even though I got there after 5pm, I was still able to get some of their moist and tender smoked brisket, spicy mac & cheese pimento salad, and loaded broccoli salad with bacon bits. That combo was DELICIOUS! Yum!!! Everything is packaged nicely. Also got their popular black garlic sausage & cheesy Jalapeño sausage. Can't wait to grill them up! I will need to go back the next time I'm in town so I can try their sandwiches. read more

This place is head and shoulders above just about any other butcher shop or deli I can think of. Highest quality ingredients, and food prepared by artisans who know what the hell they're doing. I have to say that the pastrami Reuben sandwich is absolutely a modern miracle of sandwich engineering. I'm really trying hard to think of having had a better sandwich in my life, and coming up with nothing. If you're thinking of stopping by for lunch, start there, and then work your way through the deli menu, but by all means, do not miss out on the Reuben. read more

Very clean and cute restaurant. Must gets: Rueben, meatball sandwich, bang mi, roasted chicken with the green beans and Caesar salad was absolutely exceptional. Also order the Mac and cheese, broccoli salad, Cole slaw, potato salad & cucumber kimchi salad-- all are amazing. Will go back again and again. read more

Had lunch here with the wife as I have seen it mentioned in quite a few reviews. We parked in the dirt lot next door which is okay to park per the staff as I didn't want to be towed or get a ticket. Service was fast and promo a lot of unusual flavors to choose from, so if you are feeling adventurous then this is a good spot. A little on the pricier side of things, so be ready to part with some $20s. Our sandwiches were good I say. They also have green egg merchandise for sale. read more

This place is magical for any chef, foodie, or tourist visiting the area looking for some great sandwiches! Chef Todd has a great selection of goodies! Wine, dried pasta, cookbooks, sausages, cuts of meat, hot bar! I can go on and on honestly lol The hot sandwiches change often and I'm always surprised by the creativity and well done classics people love! I ordered a specialty item from him, venison, while waiting for my order I decided to sit and have a snack. I ordered the pate plate with mustard, pickles, salad, with a huge crust of bread. Damn this was good! I'd have it everyday for lunch if I could! The grab and go fridges are stocked with some awesome foods! Prepared dinners, frozen stocks, meats, duck fat, beef tallow, duck, elk, bison! This place is a real gem! And he also does cooking classes! I cannot recommend this place enough! Go check it out it honestly speaks for itself once you enter the doors. read more

Listen.. I have never submitted a review SO QUICKLY for something I've eaten. I popped in about an hour and something ago off the suggestion of a few locals from an earlier cafe visit. The menu is modest, it's got about 10 or so items, I'm sure they change it up with specials, etc. I let the man know that I'm in town visiting from a few hours south and had a hard time deciding bc it all sounded GOOD. Now, I think this is the greed they talk about in the Bible because I ordered two sandwiches. I just had to try more than one. First off, clean space, enough seating for patrons, and I'm sure the butcher meat to go is quality. The people working here are incredibly kind and have great energy -- I didn't feel rushed at all as I stared at the menu tryna decide. I chose the turkey, and brisket, with a side of some kind of snow pea salad (it changed my life). You'll want to aim for the other heavier sides but don't sleep on the pea salad! It's absolutely incredible. read more

We tried The Meatery based on reviews from Check Please Bay Area. We had their Pastrami sandwich, the Brisket sandwich and their Calamari sandwich. We dined in and everything was mouthwateringly delicious, so much so that we ordered 2 lbs. of the brisket to go. Fantastic food and a great place to buy excellent quality meat! The sandwiches they create are delicious and original.

Stopped by on the way to Monterey after reading the great reviews. It was as advertised, great service by knowledgeable and passionate butchers. We got 4 sandwiches- brisket, pork belly bahn mi, cheese steak and a meatball. All were so delicious with a great blend of flavours. Yum! My husband and I are from the area and come down a few times a year to visit. We like to try different places each time, and since we've never been to The Meatery we decided to give it a go. I'm so glad we did! My husband ordered the Cali-Cheesesteak and I ordered The Turkey. Both sandwiches were absolutely delicious and different than any other sandwich we've ever had. My husband thought the tritip in his sandwich was tender and beautifully seasoned. My turkey was the standout. You think there's no way green beans work on a sandwich, but they do. The flavors melded together nicely, the turkey was moist and perfectly fried, and the cranberry sauce wasn't too sweet. The potato wedges were a miss for us. The seasoning on them was quite sweet which we didn't enjoy. That's just personal preference, though. Highly recommend. read more

We were going to the nail place next-door, and we smelled something delicious coming from next-door at the Meatery so we decided to stop in and just take a look. We had just ate. I wanna make that known, but we still got a pound of brisket and mac & cheese, and then more pickles to go. That's how beautiful and wonderful the food smelled. The taste was as amazing as it looked. The brisket was fork tender and outside had that perfect satisfying slight crunch. The brisket came with a housemade barbecue sauce that was perfect with the pickles and pickled onions. The mac & cheese was OK. When I come back (and we will come back!), it will be to get some fresh meats to take home, try a sandwich off of their menu. And definitely get more brisket! Great staff. Very nice. Seating for inside eating. It's a very small parking lot, but there's some side parking in the dirt. I can't wait to go back! read more
